This was so much fun! Formerly a grand manor house, this is now a lovely B&B owned by the grandson of the original owners. Our room was the original master, so it was big and bright and on the ground floor with a king bed. We were asked what we wanted for breakfast the night before and it was cooked up fresh in the morning along with cinnamon rolls, fruit and fresh coffee. There was also coffee, tea and water always available. It was so refreshing to stay somewhere other than the standard, just-off-the-highway hotels on this road trip.

Because this wasn't built as a hotel, the noises of other people entering and leaving the house were apparent.

The complete silence was unexpected, but very relaxing.

One of the very best B&B's I've stayed at!! Fabulous property, history, furnishing, friendly staff- very laid back and happy to talk and share history of the historic home. Our room was beyond clean and very nice- better than expected! Loved the electric fireplace that you could adjust the flame/light level as well as even turn off or on/up/down heat!! In the fall that is handy as it may start out kinda warm so you get the ambiance but by early am you can turn on the heat! ;-) Breakfast was really yummy- nice well rounded and best grit casserole I've had- saying something!! ;-) haha Overall we were thrilled with our stay! Even felt safe to use the jacuzzi tub! ;-) So clean! Robes are always an appreciated touch too!

ONLY complaint or negative I can even think of, is that we both found the mattress to be pretty uncomfortable which made for a long night- but then again we have bad backs/necks so we're a bit picky in this dept...We DO usually base our stay on what kind of mattress a hotel has but this was worth the experience! Still enjoyed our stay- just made the ride home a bit rougher ;-) Plenty may find it very firm and supportive! Bedding was really nice btw- great sheets and comforter! Also, I laughed at a review where a guest complained about how difficult the TV was to use- WHO worries about the TV in a B&B I thought- well, we were there early so I did want to watch it while not able to sleep ;-) and will say it took quite a while to figure out after changing the channel and ending up searching for channels/input blah blah- figured it out though ;-) haha Who knew I'd do the same... Nice to even have it!!

Going to Rockwood has become more like going to spend the weekend with friends. The Property is absolutely beautiful, the grounds are wonderful and the staff is exceptional. When we arrived we were greeted with"Welccme Back". We LOVE it. Thanks Frank and Rochelle

Everything, the room was out of this world. We have stayed in three different rooms and they are all the best you can ask for. Breakfast is always wonderful, they switch it up now and then, but if you have a request, just ask, you may get it.

The breakfast was great........plenty of coffee too! Our host was informative and funny We enjoyed the history lesson too!

It was convenient for shopping and close to beautiful scenic views and things to do.

What was not to like the owners were friendly, funny and interesting. Very beautiful home and comfortable room. The breakfast was delicious not cheap cereal and donuts. My wife said I hit a home run when we arrived.

Hard to find a nice restaurant.

I can't comment on the breakfast, which is NOT the Rockwood's fault. I absolutely had to leave over 90 minutes before breakfast was going to be available. But given how nice everything else was, I have to assume it would have been good, too - and the breakfast room looked quite enticing. A big plus was walking the grounds. Lots of beautiful old trees, and a generally quiet environment, with the public highway hundreds of yards away.

It's my fault, but if only (famous words!) breakfast could have been 90 minutes sooner OR (unavoidable this time, but maybe not next time) if only I could have started my trip west at 10 instead of 7.30.

Gracious, friendly host who made sure we were well tended. Sit down breakfast was head and shoulders above hotel packaged muffin, boxed cereal, and paper coffee cups

Only spent one night.

Fabulous old home in the country. Just what we like. Easy run into Radford for restaurants/bars. We've developed a great admiration for Mary Draper Ingles and this is a perfect spot for pursuing that interest.

Excellent hosts and food. Breakfast was very good! The room was beautiful as well as the estate. Location was very good and we were able to visit several things close by. Check-in and Check-out times were great too. Would have liked more choices in TV channels, but we didn't plan on watching lots of TV so we managed.

The heat didn't work at first or the remote wasn't cooperating -- but then we got it working. Maybe some directions there as we were guessing on how to make it warmer. (For example, flame alone didn't make heat). We've been to B&B's where there was an evening snack -- that would have been nice. Shower did get nice and hot -- too hot actually -- so we figured out that we had to turn it down VERY GENTLY or else it went to the other extreme and got too cold -- hard to find that sweet spot. Not bad - just would have been good to know because I spent most of the shower trying to get it to stay stable.
