Very Personal Environment! The Owner's were very delightful, knowledgeable about the area & set up anything we needed or wanted. The Pool & Grounds were Clean and well kept! We enjoyed that in the afternoon along with the open air bar just steps away, after morning/afternoon excursions. The evening meals were prepared fresh to order using local food supply! The Owners also recommended some places for Great Sunsets & Cocktails, family restaurants near by, etc. Of which we took their advice and was not disappointed. We cannot say enough about how much we loved our Visit and would definitely recommend them to our friends and family. We look forward to going back!
Dont let the name " Gumbo Limbo" Fool you... it is actually a native Tree that grows in the area and the Mayans used it for all types of HEALING remedies. This name suits the establishment very well!
We should of rented an all wheel drive vehicle.

Such a beautiful and peaceful place. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic. The home made ice cream is a must! Staff were also brilliant with our children.

Amazing views, wonderful aircon (not always so in Belize), gorgeous individual cabins, delicious freshly made dinners and a super warm team
We’d have liked the addition of some eggs with the otherwise tasty breakfast

The view from the cabin was so breathtaking and so serene . Also the hospitality received from the owners was so warm. My husband and I felt like home away from home. We will definitely visit again.

Jay was awesome. Great conversation with him. Our room was clean everyday.
Christine put a post on Facebook directly asking if anyone could find us at our next resort. This lead to many people reaching out to us and was very unappreciated. My phone didn't have coverage in Belize and within 24 hours of our departure she was trying to locate us to pay our tour guide for ATM cave. I paid them as soon as i could get in touch but, didn't have WhatsApp nor the service to set it up.
In addition, every morning we were asked about dinner plans so they would know if they could send their staff home. It was off putting to say the least. We didn't know our full plans daily and it added pressure to be on their schedule instead of the leisurely vacation.

We loved the serenity, the personal touches, warm welcomes and the ease of access from town (well, easy up till the driveway; but that’s just part of the adventure!)
Jay and Christine were wonderful hosts! Not only did they make us feel like part of the family, they were able to give us wonderful suggestions of things to do, help us (and other guests) arrange incredible last minute tours and also made us delicious late night drinks and desserts.
The property was beautifully maintained and you could feel the love that this family has put into it.
Not only would we return to Gumbo Limbo without hesitation, we would also recommend it to anyone and everyone!
It was all great! Understand that this is a remote property close to the jungle, so expect cute little critters and disconnect from wifi / technology and soak up some nature.

Christine and Jay were great hosts! Helpful with local tour guide recos and willfully shared lots of awesome information! They made us feel like we'd known each other for a while prior. Super friendly and kind. While we were busy off-site, we (3 of us) all agreed that we could've stayed another few nights there just to wake up to the 50+ parrots in the morning and then relax by the pool with the toucans - next time for sure!
Breakfast was good, coffee was better and the view was best (especially with a cold beer in hand! They even catered their nightly supper menu to our tastes (linguine alfredo with seriously succulent locally-sourced shrimp, beef skewers & stew chicken) :)
Will definitely stay again and keep in touch! Thanks so much!

Owners / operators were very friendly, accommodating and helpful.
Shower water temp slightly too exhilarating!

If you are looking for a eco retreat, you can't get a better get away! There are 5 villas total so it was easy for us to rent out the entire resort for our large family trip. Christine and Jay will take care of you- just let them know what you want ahead of time. They put us in touch with a great excursions company, Belize Nature Travel, who set us up with all our customized adventures.
As an eco resort, the showers were reserved rainwater with low pressure. No fridge in the rooms. It is located off the beaten path on beautiful grounds, which can be good or bad depending on the purpose of your stay.

a home away from home. there are only five bungalows on the property so you get away from it all here. the owners are very welcoming and can cook all meals if you never want to leave. rooms and beds very comfortable and quiet.
if you want to go into San Ignacio it is a USD$30 round trip. but worth it for dinner such as at Guava Limb Restaurant

Amazing views, serene setting and wonderful pool to soak in after a day of tourng sites. Perfect distance from San Ignacio and very glad we stayed here instead of in town. The resort is in excellent condition and Jay & Kristine are superb hosts and made the whole family feel perfectly at home from the start. Be sure to ask Jay to take you hunting at night for a very unique jungle creature - you'll sleep very well if you do ;).

The owners were friendly, they had a decent knowledge of the area and were good conversationalists.
Nice to have a bar on-site.
The rooms were absolutely perfect and tidy with expansive views.
The rough road condition leading to the lodge preoperty may be an issue for some folks that are driving themselves. We only lost traction once coming in but we had no problem getting in w/out 4x4, though if is raining alot it may be more of an issue.
The pool was still under construction (Oct 2022), but once it is complete it will, without a doubt, justify the initial booking cost.

A lovely Jungle resort outside of San Ignacio. Beautiful private villas on a 30 acre estate. Owners met us and greeted us by name upon arrival. Food was delicious and prepared fresh daily.

We absolutely LOVED our stay in Jay and Christine's Gumbo Limbo Jungle Resort. After spending a few days on Caye Caulker Island, we wanted to see more of Belize and wanted to 'experience the jungle' -- and this is exactly what our stay at this resort gave us! We loved having our own little cottage set in a beautiful garden. I loved the sound of the birds! The drive from Belize City was very easy and straightforward (good roads). The driveway was indeed a bit challenging the first time round, but once we followed Jay's clear instructions it was actually very easy. Apart from the beautiful resort (with a lovely pool -- that will even be remodelled in September) and the stunning surroundings, it's really Jay and Christine who have made our stay so special. They are just so kind and attentive: wonderful hosts! We had dinner at the resort both nights and really loved the home-cooked meals! And make sure to leave enough room for the homemade desserts...! Gumbo Limbo Jungle Resort is very centrally located: it's a short drive to many wonderful sites. We went to the Xunantunich Maya ruins (only a 20 min drive) and can really highly recommend these! You actually get to climb the ruins with a very knowledgeable guide. An unforgettable experience! And we also loved kayaking through the Barton Creek Cave. Both these excursions were recommended to us by Jay and Christine, who were also very helpful in making arrangements and calls for us. If you travel to Belize, make sure to visit the jungle as well and to visit this resort! We can highly recommend it.
No suggestions!

Everything was great! This was the best place we visited during our stay in Belize. It is very quiet (except noice from jungle) and clean. Owners are very friendly, kind and helpful. We felt there like at home (or even better because of the great service). Dinner was always very tasty and original. We wished we didn't have to leave and we hope to come back again one day.

It has been great to be away feom everything in the middle of the jungle but still close to St.Ignacio and the main attrsctions. Thanks to Jay and Chris for their hospitality. We loved goong Tarantula fishing with Jay and the home made ice cream from Chris.
All great, maybe just the last ramp with the car was a bit hard.

The name threw us off, and we thought it was going to be a party place... instead, we found paradise. The nicest owners, private, romantic room, fabulous bar and lounge area, awesome pool. Birdwatching for DAYS! Best breakfast ever. I can't say enough about how lovely our stay was.
Leaving as soon as we did! Stay a week, minimum!

Friendly people, great food, a serene environment, and one of the best views in all of Belize!
The road getting there is a bit tricky in the dark and rain. If you have 4WD you'll be fine :)

This was exactly what we wanted for our trip to Belize! The owners made us feel so welcomed from the start to the end of our stay. They taught us the names of the tropical birds flying around the property, toured us through their edible plants, and gave us tips for where to go for great adventures in the surrounding areas, and then set us up with an amazing tour guide for ATM cave.
The property is secluded and beautiful and private. The breakfast included fresh, tropical fruits from the local market and banana bread made on the property. We also decided to eat dinner at the property, and ate two yummy, authentic Belizean dinners complete with homemade desserts made using ingredients from the property, and the hosts were super flexible on timing and food requests.
Please keep in mind: if you are looking for a hotel stay like in the US, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for an unforgettable jungle stay, come here!
I loved our stay but here are a few heads up for other travelers:
-We love the sustainable aspects of the property (rainwater collection, solar during the day), but with this comes the fact that the shower is low pressure and you shouldn't drink the water from the sink. But water bottles are provided during your stay.
-The owners recently purchased the property and they are working through updating the property. Keep in mind that for now, there are not laundry facilities available for use, the rooms are simple, and the drive up to the property is very bumpy and we were glad to have 4wd.
-The tropical birds will wake you up early. But we were happy to get a start early for all the amazing adventures nearby!

Everything about the stay was absolutely fantastic. It's tucked away in the jungle, with phenomenal views and even better people. I'm looking forward to my next stay there already!

The Gumbo Limbo is a hidden gem! We loved so many things about our stay! Jay and Christine were amazing hosts making sure we had everything we needed and made us feel like family . They went out of their way to take care of us. The property is well maintained, clean, comfortable and beautiful. I wish we could have spent more time here.
The only down side was the internet in the rooms wasn’t very strong. We had to go to the main area for internet. (however, in some ways it was nice to disconnect while hanging out in the beautiful rooms)

The staff at the resort are very personable and friendly. We came for our honeymoon and we were treated very well. They helped us out by providing recommendations for our trip and a great room. Fun conversation as well
Using google maps to find the property can lead you the wrong direction, but in fact it is just off the main road

Breakfasts outside with a fantastic view, listening to parrots, waking up with the sun - what could be better?! The owners/managers were super friendly and welcoming. We've found a place we want to come back to over and over again!

This is privately owned lodge run by two British guys (Father and son). So you feel not to be in a hotel, but a guest of a Family. There's no TV and no Internet in the room, so you spend the evenings chatting with both owners, who both are very nice guys interesting to talk to. At the same time, the property is run with the highest Standard of professionalism and Attention to Detail. The (Continental) breakfast is fabulous (Tropical fruit, home-made banana bread …). Also, the lodge is conveniently located on the way to many attractions in the backcountry of Belize.
