GOULT: 2 bedroom house with great views, 2 minutes walk from the main square

Charming old village cottage
La Joliette is a simple village house on 3 levels: a useful cool basement built into the rock with cosy sofas and soft lighting ideal for resting on hot afternoons and stowing bikes and wine; up pretty vine sheltered steps to a living room, kitchen and shower room; a winding stone staircase to a pretty double and a single bedroom.
Eva had provided all the little essentials sometime missing in a rental property from detergent to wine rack, bin bags, kitchen condiments, umbrella etc. Quality towels, flannels, tea towls and bed linen were provided. The antique and vintage items added to the charm and the lovely big mirrors made the tiny but cosy living room feel more spacious.
True the kitchen and bathroom are tiny and the lack of air conditioning was a challenge in the heatwave (there are two big fans instead) but this is simple living.
The main bedroom is lovely with a pretty window looking out over gardens and rooftops across to the mountains and perched villages on the other side of the valley. An absolutely stunning view.
The location is perfect in a quiet lane a few minutes from the main square. Goult is charming, friendly, not over touristed and ideally located for visiting the area. It is easier to walk around than some of the higher villages.
Eva was helpful and friendly and communication throughout was easy and efficient.

Provence 2019
This was an amazing little property perfect for a trip to Provence.
It is well situated in a pretty hilltop village in the heart of beautiful countryside. It is well served with restraunts and stores including a bakery, a butcher, and a grocers.
This was great experience from beginning to end.
Eva is extremely helpful and is clearly available to help without being overbearing.

Lovely little property
Ideal gîte for 2. It was 44deg during stay and the 'cave', which is beautifully yet simply furnished, was a lovely cool room to sit in. The village has a wonderful fromagerie and bakery too.

Excellent value for money in a delightful village!
We spent one week at La Joliette & found that it was exactly as described & suited our requirements. Although it is very compact (as is to be accepted for the type & age of building) it is very well appointed indeed & excellent value for money. All necessary equipment for the modern traveller is provided. The owner, Eva, was very welcoming & also provided us with communication assistance with a delivery driver because our luggage was delayed. This was a great help & not part of our "contract"!
Goult is a delightful village in a superb central location just a short distance from the main road through the Luberon valley. It's not inundated by tourist hordes & therefore its authentic character is not in the least bit spoiled. It has excellent traditional shops where you can purchase all you are likely to need for a self catering stay, has a lively "cafe" & a choice of excellent restaurants. For those who wish to experience untarnished Provence while being in a convenient location for touring then Goult is perfect & La Joliette is excellent value for money. Do consider it as a good option for a proper Provence experience!

La Joliette is a joy!
Bon Jour Eva! What an amazing stay we had at La Joliette. And what a joy it was to meet you. We loved Goult in every way. The house was perfect for us. There is such comfort there. And Goult is perfectly situated for exploring the other villages. Hiking trails, walking the local roads, and the lovely streets of town. We miss the village, the boulongerie, epicerie, church bell ringing, the shop keepers and you! Thank-you, and we hope to see you again soon!

Centrally located in the Luberon
La Joliiette is a lovely a 2 story cottage in the village of Goult. We really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was immaculately appointed, with great views across the valley from the upstairs bedroom window. It was a short stroll down to the village for dinner or for just a drink. There is also a small supermarket and fruit shop. Host Eva was very helpful with tourist information - what days markets are held in a particular village. She was only a phone call away if there was a problem. We travelled to many villages in the Luberon valley - only a short drive by car. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Love at first sight
My friend and I fell in love with La Joliette and the beautiful village of Goult. The location, in the heart of Luberon, is fantastic for sightseeing around this lovely region. One also very easily and naturally becomes part of the village life, the center of which seems to be Café de la Poste.
La Joliette is small, but super comfortable and beautifully appointed.
The friendly owner, Eva, was a joy to meet and very helpful in every way.
It is a place to go back to again and again.

Charming, comfortable home; amazing host!
The description is completely accurate: this wonderful apartment/townhouse is adorable, perfectly situated, comfortable, quiet, very well-equipped, and spotlessly clean. It was the perfect size for my sister and I, who love to travel together but prefer the privacy of separate bedrooms. I think it would also be great for a couple, or a couple with a child or teen.
We went in the chilly off-season, and really appreciated the heaters in each bedroom and living area. They worked perfectly and kept the place warm and cozy. There is no TV (which we liked); the CD player has a radio which gets very good reception; and cell phone reception in the apartment was surprisingly good despite the thick stone walls.
Meeting the host/owner, Eva, was one of the highlights of our trip. She was kind, generous, and helpful far above and beyond the call of duty. We had flight cancellations and lost luggage on our way to Goult, and Eva spent a lot of time with us during the first few days helping everything get resolved. She's awesome!
Goult is a wonderful, semi-hidden gem of a village. Our family has been traveling to the Luberon for 20 years, and has spent most of that time in Goult because we love it so much. It's centrally located, perfect for day trips in any direction. It's very pretty, with gorgeous hilltop views. It's just large enough to have conveniences like a small grocery, wonderful boulangerie/bakery, friendly bar/cafe (with free WiFi!), and outstanding restaurants (La Bartavelle is one of the best restaurants in the Luberon, in my humble opinion), all of which are less than a 5 minute walk from La Joliette. And it's small enough to retain a bit of its rustic, remote charm and not be totally overrun with tourists.

A Lovely House in a Wonderful, Beautiful Village
We visited Goult for a few hours last year, and knew that we would have to come back. It is a wonderfully beautiful perched village, climbing up a hill.
When I was looking for a place for us to stay in Goult and saw the listing for "La Joliette", I wrote on my notes, "This is it!" What I didn't realize was that as lovely as the house looks in the photographs, the photos don't half capture the loveliness of the actual place. There are many signs of the age of the house. There is an old stone basin on the wall near the entrance. The beams in the ceiling seem to be unhewn tree trunks, the vaulted cellar is incredible! But there are also modern conveniences so that you can live very comfortably. There are two bedrooms upstairs, a small one with a single bed and a larger one with a double bed. The WC and shower are downstairs.
There is a sign at the entrance of Goult: "Le village se visite à pied." It is possible to drive up to La Joliette, to leave your bags at the house, but aside from that it's preferable to leave your car parked in one of the large (free) parking areas at the bottom. The walk from there up to La Joliette is just perfect (unless you have problems with walking). It takes only about 5 minutes to walk up there (10 if you're tired) but it's fairly steadily uphill, so you have the virtuous sense of having accomplished something when you get there.
One of the major benefits of La Joliette is that the owner is delightful, available, and wonderfully helpful.
Goult is an enchanting town to live in, even for a week. It is not nearly the tourist magnet that Gordes and Roussillon are, but it has enough of a tourist trade to maintain several very good restaurants. There is also a boulangerie, a fruit and vegetable store, a large Epicerie that has almost anything you might discover you need, a butcher, a fish seller who comes once a week, plus several other shops. There is even a very good dentist that my husband went to when he had a dental emergency.
The village is wonderfully quiet, but as you descend the hill towards the town center, you hear a steadily increasing noise, sounding like hundreds of people talking and laughing simultaneously and you realize that this din is coming from one place: Le Café de la Poste. This truly is the 'town center', with people congregating to drink beer, wine or coffee, to socialize or check their email, since this is the only place in town that has wifi. Even that adds to the charm of Goult.

a perfect holiday
We stood at la Joliette for 2 weeks and were allaround very happy with the place.
Small but beautifully furniched and perfect for two. The house was very clean and well maintained. Eva, the host gave us a very warm and friendly welcome and was helpful with directions about goult and the Luberon.
This place is definetly recommendable

We're Returning to this Ancient Stone Townhouse
We enjoyed our week at La Joliette in October 2010 so much that we are returning for two weeks in October 2012. Owner Eva Parmelee is a native of Sweden who lived in New York before moving to France, so she speaks English fluently. She is very helpful -- just ask for recommendations -- and though she now lives a few miles from Goult, she is readily available by phone.
The house is petite but perfect for two or three. The kitchen is small but well equipped. We cooked most of our meals here. It is an ancient stone house, full of character -- as is the whole village, There is a large round dining table in the living/dining room. The bathroom is on the main (first) floor, with bedrooms on the second. The double bedroom has a wonderful view of the valley, and is equipped with a writing table. Because temperatures were moderate in October, we never used the vaulted stone cellar with separate entrance at street level.
Although Goult has a number of vacation rentals, it's a real village (unlike some of the other villages in the Luberon which are dominated by tourism) with bakery, butcher shop, small grocery and a few restaurants. It's a short drive on the D900 to large supermarkets in Coustellet or Apt. Goult is centrally located for visits to the other Luberon villages. We also took longer day trips, to the Pont du Gard Roman acqueduct and Nimes with its Roman arena -- both spectacular -- and to the Mediterranean resort of Cassis (which we liked so much that we will return there for a week in October 2012).
Our only restaurant meal was a wonderful lunch at Cafe de la Gare in Bonnieux, near the Bonnieux cooperative winery (one of many wineries in the area). We also had a wonderful wood-fired pizza from the truck which visits the Goult church square on Monday nights. There are many restaurants to choose from in nearby villages, including some Michelin-starred ones within driving distance.
One parks in the square at the church and walks up a few short blocks to the apartment (except for Sunday night, when that lot is closed due to the weekly Monday market which sets up early, so one must park in the town hall lot a few steps further). The only thing lacking in the apartment is Wi-Fi, but it is available for customers of Cafe de la Poste in the church square.
The stone steps leading to the front door of La Joliette are worn with the footsteps of centuries. When you stay here you experience Provencal village life at its best.
