A beautiful property in a picture perfect location. Clean and fresh and I thought it felt bigger than in the pictures. The host was easy to get in touch with and showed us to the property from the local village. I will miss sitting outside and admiring the gorgeous 360° views.

Staying at this Spanish Cottage in the hills of Southern Spain is like you are in a dream. The cottage has a quaint country Spanish feel and it is just like the online pictures. There was plenty of room for the four of us. We had everything we needed for our stay. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and cooking items. We even used the barbecue one night to cook dinner. The pool area is lovely! The views are spectacular as you are high on a hill. We do suggest you have a car to get around as the closest market store is about a 15 minute drive away on windy roads. There are plenty of small villages to explore in the area and we suggest you visit Antequera. We used the cottage as our home base to visit Granada, Cordoba and a must see white village, Frigiliana, in the Costa del Sol area. The property offers a quiet relaxing space to come back to after a day of exploring or if you are looking for total relaxation this is a great property. Our hosts Colin and Francesca were delightful, hospitable and responded quickly to any communications we had. We recommend this property!

Excellent property in a perfect location for climbers. The house was large, clean and well equipped, with everything you would need for any length stay in the location. Couldn't have been better for our needs and would definitely stay again.

The location, the house, the views, the comfort and charm - everything about this place is a ten out of ten. And to top it off Colin was the most attentive and thoughtful host we’ve ever encountered. Thank you so much again for an unforgettable stay, we hope to be back!

Our stay here could not have been better. We were a group of seven friends staying in the area to rock climb. Guess what, there is climbing right on the property! Then after you can just relax in a pool. Amazing value and clean. Wifi worked well and was stocked with good amenities. Host was helpful and was easy to find. The house is older but gives it character. Just remember to bring food and toiletries with you as it is not super close to anything with lots of selection. Would totally stay here again without hesitation.

Loved the place. Very well maintained. Host went above and beyond. Can't wait to go back. Lots of trekking trails in the surrounding area.

Lovely villa, with stunning views across the valley. The property is well equipped, and the air con in the bedrooms was really effective. Plenty of space for us all, and Colin was really helpful with useful information and advice from booking till we left. Thank you for a memorable family holiday!

Cottage, pool and outdoor facilities are excellent. Views of the mountains and across the valley are spectacular. The local villages are very welcoming and friendly with good food and wine to be had. Colin and Francesca are great hosts and always there to help if needed. We would certainly recommend this fantastic property to anyone who wishes to experience the true heart of Andalucía. As for us, we would definitely love to return in the future.

The House and garden with pool was even better than its description. Very spacious for a family of four and very good value for your money. During the heat wave in Spain, we could still enjoy a breeze that made even the middle of the day comfortable. Colin arranged for everything needed, we only had to enjoy our stay.

Very charming property in an idyllic location, with beautiful views of the surrounding landscapes from the terrace and pool. The house was spotless and maintained well, we had a very comfortable stay. The outdoor areas were excellent, with multiple spots for relaxing and eating. The situation of the property is perfect for exploring the area, such as Caminito del Rey which is just 20 minutes down the road, and the nearby cities/towns of Ronda, Mijas, and Antequera. You will need a car for this property, be aware there are some roads which are curvy and steep (which we enjoyed on our drives). Overall a wonderful stay!

We just lovede the house and the location. The pool was perfect and clean, and had a great size for playing. The host was so helpful and whenever we needed help he was there. That was really so reassuring. This will for sure not be out last stay with Colin and Francesca. Thank you very much for having us.

This was our second time staying at this beautiful place in the Andalusian countryside. Last time was winter which we loved at this time it was early summer which was also excellent as we were able to use the pool. The house is big enough for a number of people with three bedrooms and two large bathrooms. But it’s the location that is really spectacular. The view of the mountain right outside your door will stay with you long after you leave. The host is always helpful and on hand if you need anything. I am sure we will be going there again soon

We love the remoteness, yet easy access to local villages and towns. The villa itself is amazing, 3 large double bedrooms, huge lounge. Lots of places to eat inside and out. And a wonderful good sized pool, and spectacular views with eagles overhead.

This place is superb for a group of 6 people. It is quite close to the little town of El chorro has a fantastic view overlooking the valley. The house is very well appointed with two bathrooms and lots of space, lovely wood fired, good WiFi and Netflix for TV entertainment. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Only mild downside is occasional sulphurous smell from courtyard drain. We would definitely hire again if we come on another climbing trip.

This was an amazing find. The cottage is beautiful and is surrounded by amazing scenery. As nature lovers, it was a fantastic location to hike and enjoy the Andalusian countryside. Colin and Francesca were exemplary hosts, and nothing was too much trouble. Even though the weather wasn’t on our side during our stay, the the wood fires kept the cottage cosy. Thank you!

We were so happy to stay at this beautiful place. We chose it because it was near to Caminito Del Rey. However it is worth staying there even if you are not interested on going on walks. The photos don’t do justice to the amazing location. It’s a very special and serene place. There are many places to go and visit nearby if that’s what you want to do but it’s a great place just to relax. We liked it so much we have already made another booking to come back! The hosts were very helpful and available at all times. The house itself is lovely and quite large. There are several great outdoor areas and of course the pool. We are looking forward to being there again soon.

This was our third attempt at booking this cottage (mainly due to COVID issues). It was well worth the wait. Exactly as the photos,if not better. Cottage as everything you need. Set in the mountains and the views are spectacular. The pool was our favourite, fantastic. Great WiFi too. We also enjoyed visits from the ibex & sometimes we could see the vultures. Colin was so helpful and always there if we needed advice. We also enjoyed a lovely meal with Colin & Francesca, such nice people. This is a perfect “ get away from it all and relax” holiday. Views are breath taking. Accommodation beautiful. Came close to lots of wild life including wild Goats, Eagles and Vultures. Pool was well received also. Lots to do locally. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed at this beautiful house for 10 days and wished we could have stayed for many more - even though it is secluded and you can enjoy complete privacy, the area is full of surprises. One day you might see baby wild goats passing through the garden, the next day vultures circling above the mountain top next to the house and so forth. It feels like one is in the middle of nature while still enjoying modern luxuries like the big (and deep enough to dive!) pool where we spent most of our days. The house itself is very cute and adorably decorated with wall paintings themed to each room, it is perfectly clean with big comfortable beds and strong warm showers. There is even AC which we did not use since the breeze was cool enough at night to sleep comfortably (we stayed in late June-early July). Moreover, Colin is the perfect host - helping us with any enquiry that we had while showing utmost respect for our privacy. We felt welcome and encouraged to enjoy the place to the fullest. A solid five-star vacation at a very reasonable price as well.

The house was comfortable , two bathrooms, full kitchen, with three bedrooms. There were two fireplaces , we spent our evenings by the warm fire. Thank you for making our stay in El Chorro fantastic.

Beautiful and peaceful rural location for those who want to get away from it all.

Wow, just wow! We met Colin who guided us up the mountainside into the relative quiet (crickets is all you hear and a wonderful strange whoosh as the wind wraps around the cliff side). The house was beyond expectations, so much room for just the four of us, and air conditioning meant no hot sticky nights! The ensuite shower was amazingly powerful and even though my husband is a 6'8" giant, he only hit his head once! The steps down to the pool....where I can honestly say I spent so much time swimming and reading, I think I lost weight! The local town with a few cafes and supermarkets was lovely and very 'untouristy' so practice your Spanish. The house, the pool, the view, the eagles flying overhead was simply marvellous, and I shall return! Thank you Colin and Francesca for your attentiveness (especially with the ants!) Bee xxx

We spent two weeks here and wished it could have been longer. The villa was comfortable and very clean, Colin was extremely helpful and easy to contact if needed. The views from the villa and pool area are breathtaking. There's lots of interesting wildlife, we spent many evenings watching the Ibex drinking from the pool. Rocabella is an excellent restaurant, just a few minutes drive away, we enjoyed quite a few meals there, it's reasonably priced and the food is good. We would love to visit again and next time we will definitely book, Caminito del Rey. Thanks again, hope to be back in the future.

This is the perfect place to visit if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of a busy seaside resort. The views are fantastic, and it is so peaceful. We loved playing in the good sized pool and the local wildlife is a plus. If you are active their are some good local walks and the lakes are great to swim in but if you just want to relax and unwind you can sunbathe, watch a bit of sky sports and chill out at the villa. The wi-fi got the thumbs up from the children and the owner Colin couldn't do enough to make our stay as good as possible.

Great communication throughout, very helpful. Lovely villa and pool with amazing views. Visits from the local goats to the pool were fabulous! Nearest restaurant is 5 mins away by car- good food and views.. try a bit further afield as well.. worth it!

My husband and I have rented eleven properties through VRBO in recent years, in France, Italy, Argentina and the South Pacific. All but one were very good and we have never taken the time to comment after the fact. This latest experience however is noteworthy, as the owners were not merely “very good” but exceptionally so, and exceptions warrant special consideration. The property itself is most endearing, so much so that we asked to extend our stay. However, what sets it apart from the other “very good” properties is the total commitment of the owners to ensure that their guests’ experience is a positive one from the first contact. Communication was always timely, helpful, courteous and friendly. Colin went out of his way to accommodate our requests, his assistance was invaluable in helping us plan our itinerary and he was, first and foremost, a facilitator throughout the rental process. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to both Colin and Francesca for making our 11 days at La Majada Alta a truly memorable holiday.

We had a really enjoyable time at the property which is of a good size, well stocked and with a lovely pool that is in the sun most of the day. It is remote and peaceful which is what we wanted. The property was clean,well maintained and in a beautiful area. The owner was very helpful. Well recommended.

We have just returned from our stay at Colin and Francesca's cottage end of August 2018. We stayed with our older children being 18 and 22 and found the whole time there wonderful. Griffon vultures on the tor behind and Ibex goats drinking from the pool. You really felt that you were away from it all. Three bedrooms, space to eat at the front or rear of the house and an amazing pool with views to die for. Great facilities in the kitchen with a large gas BBQ to back it up. Spending the evenings with a glass of wine and just taking the the views was great. Locally, there is the Rocabella restaurant which is OK within 15-20mins walking distance, but any other restaurant requires a drive. We ate in all nights bar 2 for the week. Caminito del Rey was fantastic, but book ahead. Antequera is a great town to visit for many sights including the Moorish Alcazaba castle, as is the El Torcal nature reserve (unique limestone rock formations). Overall, Colin and Francesca were incredibly helpful with great feedback and always returned messages promptly. Thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone.

fantastic return visit to la majada alta- the grounds and pool are beautiful and peaceful with exemplary cleanliness of the pool, the house is very well equipped and the air con was a necessity in the evenings in the recent heatwave! Ibex came and visited again and we spent a number of days relaxing watching the vultures circle overhead. Treated to the most delicious paella by Francesca's sister- thank you so much again

We are a family of 2 adults & 3 children, 13,10 & 8 and have spent 2 weeks in La Majada Alta. Colin and Francesca are excellent hosts, from the moment of booking and throughout the holiday itself they are helpful, knowledgeable and easily contactable, whilst never intrusive.They arrange for a family member to guide you to the cottage from the village and show you round so there's no stress and there is a lovely welcome pack. The cottage itself is a real home from home, beautifully decorated, spacious, with everything you could need and more. The air con in the bedrooms works fantastically well, so no sleepless nights. Showers are powerful, there are plenty of bath towels with extra towels for use by the pool. Laundry and bedding are changed weekly and Colin will text you to let you know the time the ladies are coming. The pool is fantastic, and cleaned regularly, there are lovely outdoor seating areas, full sun or dappled shade. The property is nestled high in the mountains which affords spectacular views and complete seclusion as well as a variety of wildlife (not mosquitoes though, yey). It's location is perfect for exploring the surrounding small villages, The Camenito del Rey is absolutely worth the trip, but our favourite trips were to the the lakes. They are very busy at weekends and it is almost impossible to park (unless of course you are Spanish and then anything goes), but during the week it is quieter and you can spend all day there, the water is warm and clear for swimming in, there are pedalos with slides, canoes and paddle boards for hire and cafes nearby. Water shoes are useful as the banking around the lake can be steep and stoney. All in all there is plenty to keep you busy or the option to do absolutely nothing in beautiful surroundings.
