Absolutely lovely experience.
Just amazing, we loved it so much. Bishnu and his family are so welcoming. Saoru’s cooking is beautiful, everything is cooked from scratch, and there is plenty of it. The lodges are basic and functional, providing a base for you to enjoy all that is on offer. Bishnu offers a wide range of Safari experiences, we recommend them all. We would go back in a heartbeat if we could!

If you want a stay away from noise of tourist areas, & you want a great safari guide. Go to Chital.
The family are great, the peace and quiet at the lodge is excellent, the food was very good, and the safaris were amazing. If you are looking for the creature comforts of a resort or hotel then this is not the place for you. The rooms may be spartan but they were clean. This is the place to go if you want to be away from the crowded tourist district, and value some peace and quiet. You will have a large variety of birds around your room, and maybe the occasional jackal at night if you are lucky (don't worry about them, they are great to see and go in the other direction as fast as they can if they see you). The family who own the lodge are all lovely and welcoming, and they supply some great tasting food (the nearest shops are a 10-15 minute walk away. Bishnu from the family who runs the lodge is also the safari guide, and he is great He is a local who truly loves and cares for nature, and who is very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna. I went out on my first jeep safari within a couple of hours of arriving and to be honest I was not expecting to see much. I would have been happy with a few birds and just seeing the park. What I saw far exceeded that. We spotted our first rhinoceros within a couple of minutes of entering the park and saw several more (up very close). There were dozens of spotted deer, hog deer, gharial crocodiles, mugger crocodiles, macaques, wild boar, and a huge variety of birds. I went on another jeep safari two days later and saw 9 different individual rhinoceros that day as well. Some of them were within n 5 metres of our jeep. On that second safari we also saw plenty more of the other animals I have mentioned, including a huge range of birds, including some migratory species which are rare to see in this part of the world. Unfortunately I decided not to do the canoe ride or the walking safari, but have since been in touch with other tourists I met there, who said that was also a wonderful experience. HIGHLY recommended.

Wonderful, one in a life time experience!
The rooms are basic but functional. The food is delicious and prepared with fresh ingredients! Bishnu, the owner and guide for the tours is very experienced and does a wonderful job. We had the privilege of enjoying the majestic appearance of a beautiful tiger during our jungle walk safari, absolutely stunning! The Lodge and the tours it offers are 100% recommended!! We did the boat, jeep and walk safari :)
The rooms could use a little up grade :)

Chital Lodge is a special place
My stay in Chital Lodge in Megahauli, hosted by Bishnu and Saoru, was fantastic. Although I enjoyed my walking safaris near Sauraha as well, I do wish I had spent all my time here near Megahauli. Less known and less touristic, beautiful and just as wildlife-rich area of the national park. The safaris are guided by the host Bishnu who clearly lives and breaths the natural world of Chitwan. Bishnu and Manoj were amazing and knowledgeable guides who put up with monsoonal rain, heat, and bugs to help us see many rhinos, monitor lizards, great hornbills, and, lucky enough, even a bengal tiger. And way more. And as a huge plus, Saoru is another very kind host and a wonderful cook. The food was always delicious. The lodge is clean and pleasant, I added an extra night just to relax there. If I return to Nepal, Chital Lodge will be a place I revisit. Grateful to have found this beautiful gem.
Nothing.

Pleasant
Bishnu is a great guide and we really enjoyed his knowledge of the jungle during our walk and jeep safari. The lodge is located in a very beautiful and natural location.
We expected the lodges to be simple and rustic, but maybe not so much. The mattress is incredibly hard, the bathroom is tiny and was pretty dirty, the sheets and towels were very old and had holes in them, there are frequent power outages that leave you with no fan for hours... In summary, it is not a very comfortable stay. However, if you spend most of your time doing activities in the jungle, you won't spend much time in the room. The lodge has no food menu, which means you don't know what is available and how much it costs. For me, that was a confusing and a bit awkward system of getting your meals.
