George was always available to help us out as we had not been to the big Island before.
6.0 / 10.0
Small in an isolated setting. The place was a little run down. The microwave over looked like something that was pulled from the curb where someone was throwing it out. Very quiet with Coqui frogs at night. Not enough silverware or storage containers for leftovers.
Overall, a functional place to stay.

Property is exactly as shown in the photos. George Sr. was extremely kind and met us at a mile marker to ensure we found the property in the dark. Later in the stay, he brought fresh avocados.
The ocean views from the studio are amazing. We made sure to be back every night to watch the sunset.
If you are a digital nomad it might not be the place for you. Wifi was weak and spotty. Not a concern for us as we were on vacation. Who wants to be online when surrounded by beauty?
Friendly people, great communication, and easy access to everything we wanted to see and do in that side of the island. We were sad to leave.

We loved the deck overlooking the jungle and the ocean in the distance. The house feels secluded and very private while close to shopping and good restaurants. Also great beaches. We would definitely stay here again.

The cottage has all the basics for your stay. Bed is very comfortable. The view on the back porch is phenomenal. We enjoyed a few conversations with George Sr. what a delight! It’s a quiet place, with the occasional rooster ( everywhere in the islands) . I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. There’s groceries and local restaurants within minutes. 2 steps is minutes away. I only wish George Sr. was every accommodations owner/ manager!

The property is located in a very green area and is very close to an amazing snorkel beach. The view from the terrace is beautiful. We could watch the sunset every day. The Insect screens keep the bugs outside, but at night the frogs can be heard loudly so one might find it hard to fall asleep. Due to the moisture in the area the furniture is partly damaged with wood puffed up. The apartment definitely needs some renovation and a deep cleaning. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay. The host was very friendly, communication was easy and he even brought us beach when we asked him for. Wifi is very fast and reliable.

This is a wonderful property. Very close to Two Step our favorite snorkeling spot. Ed was a great host . The place was clean and enough room for the two of us.

I really enjoyed my stay and wished I'd booked a few more nights. The view from the deck was spectacular. There are no houses/structures blocking the view. WOW! Every sunset was beautiful.
Another reviewer described this studio as "no frills" and I would agree. But everything I needed was provided: cookware, beach stuff (sand chairs, umbrella, beach towels, body boards, etc), hair dryer, blankets, etc. There is also a washer and dryer downstairs - this was a nice surprise and so convenient. It's a very simple, economical place - not luxury, which was fine with me.
Some of the things I enjoyed (and miss!):
The view
The sounds of crickets, birds and coqui frogs (there were only a few frogs, so not too loud) at night
The greenery/flowers/wildlife around the property
Privacy- and it felt spacious and safe
Location: close to good places to eat, coffee shops and things to see and do. 2-Step beach is just a few miles away.
**The studio is close to the Belt Road, so you can hear road noise, especially at night. I just put a little bit of cotton in my ears before bed so it was not a problem for me, even though I'm a light sleeper.
The hosts welcomed me in and were available. They were so helpful and it made my stay so enjoyable.

My wife and I love the feel and location of this small spartan no-frills cottage. This was our 3rd stay here and (although it's not for everyone), we love it! We are Alaskans who have a "love affair" with Hawaii. :-)
With many THANKS to the onsite host, George, who is a perfectly helpful and accommodating gentleman.

This is a quaint little spot. Hidden from the highway with a great view. George Sr. was very pleasant and helpful with anything we needed. If you are looking for an upscale condo, this is not for you. We came to relax enjoy the sites and get a good night sleep, it hit everything we needed. I understand they are continually working on improvements, but for us it was perfect.

Very quiet property with excellent views. This was our second stay and we will be coming back.
We enjoy the community and of course, Two Step Beach.
Great place to decompress.
Thank you George!

The rustic studio was spotlessly clean, spacious and pleasant. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen fully equipped with everything we needed to prepare our meals, and the hot water abundant for showers.
The best feature of the studio for us was its large lanai with a view out over the mango and banana trees to the ocean. We had morning coffee there, ate our meals there, and also watched sunsets from the same place.
The location of the studio was perfect for us. Near to a variety of beaches and only a short drive to the Choice Mart grocery store in Captain Cook which had everything we needed. Also near Black Rock pizza that offered an amazing vegan pizza.
The only downside of the studio is that it is close enough to the busy belt road that you hear traffic noise day and night.
The owners were kind and friendly, generous and hospitable. It was a perfect place for us to stay.

This is an old house on a farm. Not fancy but very comfortable. Lovely yard, view of beautiful trees and ocean. Love all the little geckos on the very wonderful deck where we watched many sunrises and sets. Plenty hot water for showers and doing dishes. Laundry facilities under the house. Communication was great with the owners/managers. Very accommodating and friendly:) Big plus he removes the garbage and saves you the trouble of hauling as some rentals require. Really short, beautiful drive to City of Refuge and Two Step (some of the best snorkeling). Several wonderful cafe's very close. We went to South Point, Hilo, and way up north. This location is great for adventures. Big perk, remarkably bug free inside! Lots of chickens, frogs, local birds so can get noisy, we thought they were fun. Yes, the place is old and has some quirks and could use a deep cleaning. So, all and all for what you get- it is a GREAT DEAL!

Lush tropical rural setting on former avocado farm estate. The property interior is suffering from neglect and significant disrepair. Photos on-line not consistent with current status.

The place was nicely located with excellent views and decent space. We would stay there again!

Very comfortable stay with a great view from the lanai. We loved the secluded location down a single lane farm road. It is close to several of our favorite restaurants, coffee shops, farmer’s markets, and snorkeling locations. The temperate location allows for the windows to remain open letting the breeze flow through the house and the concert of frogs to be heard every night. We were able to use the beach towels and chairs as well as the well-stocked kitchen during our stay. Ed was very responsive during the booking and prior to arrival. George was always around and available if anything was required. Fantastic hosts, location, and house. We would definitely stay here again if our travels allow us a return to the Big Island in the future.

Property is located on a Farm in the tropical region above Kona. The land and foliage are beautiful. Be aware that you are in a natural setting so be prepared for nature sounds. Many birds, chickens, etc.. After a night or two I was used to it and missed the sound when we got home.
The duplex its self is perfectly serviceable. Could use an update but for the price and location it was fine. The owner was fantastic, Friendly and responsible. Overall we enjoyed our time there.

This cottage has a lot of character from its eclectic decorating style to its flock of chickens. If you appreciate the outdoors, gentle breezes, birds that sing and beautiful sunsets this is your spot. It is not fancy, but if you appreciate rustic charm it eill frel like your home away from home.

Ed and George Sr. clearly care about their visitors, wanting all to have a great stay. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Close to Honaunau and Kealakekua for excellent snorkeling.

We loved our stay! The view is spectacular and perfect if you love sunsets. We befriended the small cat who likes to hang outside and is very friendly. The space has everything that you need, I would not hesitate to stay again.

Beautiful view, lush vegetation, slightly rustic with great host. Bed was too soft for our taste and tv reception on major broadcast channels was intermittent. We enjoyed our breakfasts on the deck with the lovely breezes. No need for a/c. We loved the proximity to some of the best snorkeling spots!

This is a fantastic little apartment 40 mins from the airport and away from the touristy areas of Kailua-Kona. It is nestled in the coffee highlands which get sunny mornings with regular tropical afternoon/evening rain showers....you may not have many spectacular sunsets, but it's gorgeous nonetheless, and only 10 min drive to 2-steps, a fantastic snorkeling spot! Lots of great small town eateries just down the road (poke, hawaiian BBQ, lau lau, pizza, fish sandwiches), a farmers market and super friendly locals. The apartment isn't luxurious and the kitchen is lacking a lot of essentials for cooking (e.g. no sharp knives, or wine glasses) but it is safe, comfortable and cozy with a nice big balcony with ocean/beach views. You do hear some highway noise but it didn't really bother us. You also get a wonderful chorus of birds and frogs at night!

A very old structure in a beautiful location, surrounded by tropical greenery. Kitty and chickens for company. Place is clean for its age-- could use some updating.. Full kitchen is nice, but needs better lighting. Also bathroom is cold. Overall not bad for the price.

We enjoyed our stay at this property, a clean and comfortable duplex unit in a gorgeous country setting. The managers George and Ed were responsive and generous. This was great value for the money, and we would definitely return.

Great value, great location. Loved the frogs serenading us in the evening.

Ed’s place is great little cozy home. If you have ever stayed in an old farm house, this is definitely worth it. The turkeys, chickens and pigs come visit on a regular basis. (Pigs at night don’t really know they’re there most of the time.)It is so awesome to sit on the lanai watching them. There are so many different types of birds to see here also. We loved the fresh avocados and papaya George brought by. We would find them outside the door, such a great surprise! The place was very comfortable the bed was awesome! We had AC but left the windows open. The weather here is perfect! We did wrap a small blanket around us in the morning, to sit outside on the lanai and have our coffee. While looking out at the great view of the ocean. Their nut season was over. George let us pick up some of the macadamia nuts. Just a reminder they are very hard to crack! We took them to our land and used the rocks to crack them. We also got to pick some fresh oranges. The best sweetest ones I have ever had! Move over Sunkist!! These are better! Ed and George was very friendly and helpful with all our needs. George stays pretty busy. But is always a call away. Ed was able to get back with us through texts and phone. We never needed for anything with their help. They have beach towels a few beach chairs. Everything we needed. I am already planning our next trip! I will definitely stay here again! Great hosts and comfortable private place. Great Bbq just down the road. Other restaurants and businesses close by. Love the area.
