About this house rental

The High Carolew, named after my dad (Lewis) & mom (Carolyn), was born from Dad’s hard-earned money & Mom’s gifted sense of style. This gorgeous home sits on 27 acres atop Liz Reese (Indian Camp) Mountain on the highest spot in the gated community. Enjoy all the modern comforts of home while absorbing most scenic opportunities Southern Appalachian has to offer. In less than an hour, you can venture out anywhere from Asheville to Highlands. Odds are, though, that you’ll want to stay put: It’s all right here!

Transylvania County, North Carolina is the Land of 1000 Waterfalls. There are so many hiking trails and scenic opportunities available there’s not sufficient space to list them all. To highlight a few things: the town of Brevard is 15 minutes away; the Asheville airport is about 50 minutes away; The Biltmore House and the 50 yard-line at Death Valley in Clemson are right at an hour away. Heading northwest, you can hit Lake Toxaway, Sapphire, Cashiers, and Highlands within an hour. If you want to venture up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, it is also under an hour and is accessed by taking the most beautiful road in North Carolina, Highway 215. If you’d like to fly fish, mountain bike, or hike, you are right where you need to be!
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire home. The owner is in a separate cabin down the hollow on the same 27-acre parcel.
Interaction with guests
Bubba places great value in his own privacy and most certainly respects yours. Having said that, he will most likely be in his cabin that he built eight years ago deep down in the hollow on same 27-acre parcel as the High Carolew. You should feel free to let him know if you need anything during your respite. In the event he is not around, he will have provided you a contact name and number in the event of emergency or if there is any special dispensation you require.
Other things to note
The High Carolew will be stocked with a variety of breakfast foods, coffees, teas and a variegated spread of snacks for your enjoyment. Bear in mind that there is a fully stocked kitchen at your disposal in the event you want to prepare any meals during your stay. All linens and towels are provided along with extra blankets, pillows, towels for hot tub, etc. There will be an easily accessible, generous supply of cured split logs for the upstairs wood-burning fireplace. (The downstairs fireplace is gas-burning.) Additionally, the High Carolew will be stocked with games for the kids and adults, including poker tables, chips, bridge tables, an Olympic-size pool table, and a pub-style dartboard...
Not to mention a BRAND NEW, 5-person hot tub overlooking the majestic Jocassee Gorges!

I cannot express how amazing the High Carolew was in person! This place was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. You could see for miles. It was a slice of heaven. Every morning we woke up with our coffee on the porch and there was literally not a sound. We went into Brevard for dinner and it was close and amazing! We also went hiking on Saturday at Rainbow Falls which was so gorgeous. What a secret and stunning place you have here in the mountains. We will definitely be back and I cannot recommend it enough! Thank you!

Beautiful location and setting. A little difficult to get there during a deluge thunderstorm. Later in clear weather we learned the best routes to Brevard and the waterfalls.

It was just the two of us, so we didn't utilize all the space and amenities this large home offered. The deck and upper living space was very comfortable and offered amazing views and quiet like most people have never experienced. The handbook was a little out of date; we had to clean the grill and a few dishes before using but the home was stocked with most any dish or pan anyone would need. We cooked in for every meal and enjoyed the neighborhood. The only wildlife we saw was momma turkey and 5 babies. Thank you for sharing this beautiful location.

We spent a rainy weekend in the house and still managed to enjoy the deck / view / hot tub. 20 min from brevard, pretty convenient for rainy day excursions.

This is our third year in a row, we have a close group who are so busy in their lives and live in different locations, but we put this trip together to stay connected, it helps us recharge and be thankful for all the blessings we all have in our lives and our cherished friendship, there is simply not a better place to do this. Very secluded, great amenities, we bring all our stuff and have wonderful meals, great conversation and a nice dab of really good bourbon, what more could you want, incredible views and a nice touch of wildlife and nature ,HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The main living space was a highlight with amazing views and wonderful space to be together as a family. It was especially cozy with the stone fireplace and warm lighting. Our kiddo love the pool table and darts even while in a utility area, it served for fun with seclusion from others in need of respite. Beds were cozy. Kitchen was well appointed. The side screened in porch was great in the evening and mornings. The rocking chairs on the covered porch left still to ponder the views. And, the property offered a range of wondering to gaze into the forest and beyond the mountains. The location atop a mountain along the North and South Carolina border was a delight; while the drive to local waterfalls, DuPont Forest, Pisgah National Forest and Brevard was not bad when adventuring . Finally, the owner was truly a great help and communicator even when we forgot something our child needed oh so badly,.

We had a wonderful time at Carolew. The house is beautiful, comfortable, and well-maintained. The views from the great room and hot tub are spectacular, extending for miles over the surrounding mountains. Brevard, with its multiple dining options, is about 30 minutes away. Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway also are within easy drives, offering unlimited opportunities for hiking and sightseeing. Asheville is about an hour away, with a thriving arts scene, first class restaurants, and (of course) Biltmore House and Gardens—well worth a visit. Finally, Bubba was a perfect host—always available to answer questions. In sum, we would rent Carolew again without hesitation.
