The property has an interesting history. We believe it was the first home in the area to have electricity (powered by a water-wheel at the back of the property, some remnants of that structure remain). The home was used as a place for travelers passing thru the area to stop and get a good night's rest. Of course, every old home has a ghost story. The weeping sound of Nancy the Ghost is claimed to be heard on occasion, we can’t confirm or deny her presence...but we are pretty sure Nancy is a friendly gal and her "weeping" is just the sounds of the old house creaking.
We can confirm that former US President LBJ was a guest. He liked it and we believe you will as well. For details, contact Scott.
Location: Yes...it is in the mountains, not rolling foothills. Ceasar's Head and Table Rock are just a few miles down the road from The Shamrock House, as well as many, many waterfalls, hiking, biking, tubing, whitewater rafting...you name it!
For recreation on the property, we have a basketball goal, a game of horseshoes, and several open meadows where the kids can play whatever sport they enjoy (just bring your gear)...or just relax in a hammock!
The property is located in the Rocky Bottom area of Sunset, Upcountry, South Carolina, approximately halfway between Pickens, South Carolina and Brevard, North Carolina on Highway 178 (an easy 30 minute drive to Brevard). The cabin is approximately seven miles north of Highway 11, the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway.
Drive time from Atlanta or Charlotte ~ 2.5 hrs
from Asheville ~ 1 hr
Special Features: Equipped kitchens, outdoor (park style) grills, basketball goal, horseshoe pits, picnic tables, Sat TV & Wifi in main cabin, trout stream, wildlife (beavers, turkey, deer, bear and other critters).
Dates Available: Year round.
Disclaimer: This property is "in the sticks." Although there are convenience stores a short drive down the road, and small towns within a 20-25 minute drive, please be aware that this area is remote. The main cabin is almost 100 yrs old and all 3 cabins are rustic. We work hard to keep everything dust-free and clean, but the nature of the property (and mother nature around the property) can change things overnight. Be advised, the Shamrock house is NOT disability friendly, some of the outdoor steps around the property are natural stone and if you have mobility issues this property may not be a good fit.

We had 18 and did not feel crowded. Hiking up and down the stream and playing in the cool was stellar. The kitchen was great at the Trout House for all to gather for meals. Nearby Sliding Rock and tubing and trails kept us happy. I will bring a big cooking pot next time!
4.7
The property is big and well kept. It was very clean and nicely groomed. We had a great time and enjoyed our stay. We would recommend it for anyone, especially a group like ours!

I turned 70 years old in November 2023 and I wanted to invite 20 of my closest friends to help me celebrate. I also wanted it to be near Lake Jocassee in Salem, SC. The Shamrock House fit the bill perfectly.
16 guests ended up attending for 3 nights. We had a blast! Everyone found a comfortable bed and the 2 kitchens were perfect for cooking our meals. The main room in the cabin was perfect for a music room for our guitar players. We took advantage of the fire pit outside every night. The owner Scott helped me get a truckload of firewood from a local tree company for a very reasonable price. The load lasted all 3 nights with some left over.)
Plenty of parking with extra out front. Can't say enough about the owner Scott. Very responsive and helpful with all my questions. All the rooms were clean and there was plenty of kitchen pots and pans.
We were able to rent two pontoon boats and spent Friday and Saturday on Lake Jocassee - the cleanest, most pristine lake in SC. This is a must while your up there.
Another must do is the short drive to the Sassafras Mountain Observation Tower. This is a great place for sunrise and sunset photos.
Again I can't say enough about the owner Scott. He was very responsive to all my questions and concerns. It was a flawless, seamless experience. I hope to return soon.

Property is excellent for activities and had plenty of room for all the family. The place is rustic and has that feeling of being at camp in the mountains. If you are expectingh that new mountain rental cabin then this is not it but it is nice has great WiFi, satellite tv, and perfect for us. Having 3 separate areas was nice for our big family. We enjoyed this property and hope to return again.

Great communication with host at all times.
Great location to trails and view point.
Very clean and well maintained.
We were 17 people and everyone had a great time.

It was a great place and was perfect for the amount of people we had staying there. It is a beautiful area. The cabins were neat and clean. Nothing major at all wrong except the online video is a little outdated as far as the area where the benches are...they were not usable and one rotted board outside one of the doors that we had to be careful of but i let the owners know. Definitely give it 5 stars and would recommend it to others!!
4.7
We left a blanket and would like to know if it could be mailed back to us.
4.7
The property was absolutely beautiful except for the driveway and walkways were trip hazards. The porch can not be used at all. Someone is going to get very hurt. The place was not cleaned very well at all. Hair left in beds so bedding wasnt washed in bunk house. I could go on honestly but im not going to waste my time.

We stayed at Shamrock during the events of our daughters wedding at Pretty Place Chapel Sept 2023. The location was a bit off the beaten path but it worked out perfectly for our family. The area in general is remote. There is no quick trip to the grocery so it's important to plan. However, this is one of the great things about the location. This property is great for guests who really enjoy the outdoors and also have an appreciation for history. Having three cabins was nice also, and allowed the bride and the bridesmaids to use the Trout House for getting ready prior to the wedding without keeping everyone else up late at night (the wedding was at Sunrise).
That night after the wedding, we were able to come back to the main house and relax, breath a sigh of relief and enjoy time together as we sat around the fire, eating, drinking and enjoying everyone's company. The groom is very outdoorsy and loves fishing and anything to do with animals, plants and nature, so he took right to the place.
A couple of suggestions when staying here: Bring some GOOD flashlights. It's very dark and we found them very handy when going between the cabins. Bring camping chairs if you have a larger group and want to enjoy a night out at the fire pit.
Thank you for letting our family enjoy this property and for allowing us to go back in time and stay in this very historic house. My husband and I slept in Nancy's room. She was quiet for the most part and pretty much stayed to herself.;-)
4.7
This is a good cabin in the woods with a lot of activity available, if you like outdoors stuff. The main cabin is likely haunted and 4 separate people had ghostly encounters so know that going in. Other than that it's a great place.
4.7
We had a great, relaxing stay. Everything was very clean- considering the location being in the mountains surrounded by creatures of all sorts. Communication was top notch. Would definitely recommend!
4.7
Quiet and relaxing setting. Close to many of the activities we wanted to do. Plenty of bathrooms and space.
4.7
Interesting historical property. Beautiful tall trees all around the house. Many great hiking trails and other outdoor activities close by. Remote location, but we found groceries and other shopping in Brevard, NC (about 25-minute drive north).
4.7
We enjoyed exploring the area. Sassafras Mountain was wonderful and the cabin was so close it was easy to hike, run, or drive there. Shamrock house was a little dark inside because of all the trees, but that also helped to keep it cool. The three cabins were able to accommodate our family comfortably and give quiet sleeping areas for the children. It is rustic, but that is also stated in the rental description.
4.7
This was an amazing property to visit. The main house makes you feel like you are stepping back in time to a remote retreat. The Porches are wonderful. The rock walkways between the houses add lots of character. Everyone in our group was able to find a private space on this property. The host was also very accommodating and communication was excellent. Come unplug and slow down here!
4.7
Plenty of room for everyone, we really enjoyed the atmosphere and history of Shamrock
4.7
It was very nice cabins and property

Shamrock is a beautiful location and I would stay there again. The mowing company came during our stay and limited what we could do as they were doing their job in the yard. This was a bummer as we had planned to be down in the yard during the day. The location was also close to the road with frequent motorcycle groups, and it was advertised as being secluded. If we had expected these things the stay would have been 11/10. Super awesome housing with TONS of sleeping arrangements.

We were taking our youth group to winter jam in Greenville. We found this cabin. The main cabin is beautiful! There was plenty of room for our whole group with the three cabins! We didn't have any spotting of Nancy in the main cabin where everyone else said they had seen her, but she did show up in the bunk house!! For some reason she loved my 17 year old son. He doesn't scare easily at all but did get a little frightened from this..... the first night in the bunk house him and two other boys were in the room playing Xbox... they all seen the bed sink down like someone was laying in it with him... he said I just let her lay there and he went to bed. It didn't scare him! Well the next night he went into the cabin by hisself. He had taken his guitar because he loves playing it! His guitar was in the corner on its stand. He set down on his bed and bent over to put his hat in his bag. Well when he did his guitar got played by itself! Just real low but went through all the strings one time! He came running to our cabin a little spooked! Lol but now he wants to start visiting haunted cabins to stay in. I told him he's on his own! But everyone had a great time! The host was very helpful everytime we asked a question!! We will definatly make this our place to stay every year. So just remember Nancy visits all those cabins🤣😩
4.7
The property and houses worked well for our weekend club retreat. Meals and group gatherings in the Shamrock House. Camp fires at night. If you go during cold weather (30s or below) the Shamrock House stays in the low 60s at best so bundle up.
4.7
We all wanted to come catch a glimpse of "Nancy" the resident ghost, especially on a Friday the 13th. Unfortunately, she did not appear, but other "spirits" did, especially around the camp fire at night.....lol. We had 16 family members and all had a great time! The main house is a true log cabin, which meant it was cold most of the time as we went in January during a really cold weekend. So, plan that accordingly for your trip. We had lots of laughs, food and fun. Would definitely recommend and go again! The owner/host was the most accommodating. We really enjoyed ourselves! Thanks for a great weekend!
4.7
The teenage grandchildren had looked on line and read about Nancy’s ghost. We had so much fun with that angle. We all enjoyed exploring the grounds, standing around the campfire and hiking up Sassafras Mountain. We found the amenities were adequate, the only downside was the frozen bodies that spent the night in the living room in the main house. Fortunately, one of my sons came up the next day with space heaters and they did the trick. All in all it was. great few days.
4.7
We were looking for a place to that could accommodate 12 people with pets and a hot tub. Without absolutely breaking the bank. Every time I plugged the information in it kept bring up the Shamrock House minus the hot tub. The cost was very reasonable and the accomodations to sleep as many people as we had was perfect with the multiple houses. It was much more that we expected. Everyone was over the top excited about the history of the house and the whole location not to mention the lore of Nancy the ghost. We all had our different experiences as we explored the property and will definitely go back again.
4.7
We gathered 23 family members to celebrate Thanksgiving and at the end of our week had a family wedding on the property. It felt homey to be surrounded by Fall leaves and to stay in such a cozy old cabin! Sassafras is close by and plenty of hiking with streams and waterfalls within a short drive.
4.7
This was a perfect place for my 50th birthday! Secluded and private. The grounds were just what you'd expect from a house built in 1925 in the woods. Wonderful area to get in some fresh air, walks, sit and listen to the stream. Nice size fire pit area that sits 12 easily. All three buildings were clean and accommodating to what the guests needed. Two kitchens make cooking for large gatherings a breeze.
Due to the area, cell signal is low to none. The lodges Wifi is nice, but drops easily if there is a lot of use from guests. This should be expected due to the area. This is a place where you can silence your tech and sit with no distractions, just relax.
The host has great communication and easy to work with!
The house is 30 minutes from a Walmart and 13 to the closest gas station.
4.7
Overall we were very happy with the property and our stay. We love the history and beauty of the houses and surrounding areas. The only downfall we had was the stone steps with no railings. Some of the women were older and had trouble navigating the slippery steps without some assistance. I would definitely rent again, for a different, more mobile group.
4.7
We had our church's men's retreat over three nights at The Shameock House and we absolutely loved our visit. The grounds are beautiful with lot's of fire pits and areas the congregate and relax.
4.7
The steps in the main cabin need better lighting. It would be helpful to have clocks in the bedrooms. The ‘Welcome Letter’ stated trash can liners are provided but I did not find any. Overall it was amazing!
4.7
Loved the fact that there were 3 houses for all of us. Loved the main house with the wraparound porch and all the property. Wish we could have also gone in and out the front door. Would have been nicer without the rain. I am sure the property would be gorgeous manicured.
4.7
Booked our stay for my wedding week, my husband, and I got married at Pretty Place Chapel. The Owner kept in contact leading up to our stay, to ask if I had any questions before heading down from Michigan. To make sure there wasn’t any stress. I arrived, and everything was as described. Definitely more than I could’ve asked!!! My family need a getaway, and the Shamrock home did just that!! Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! Made lifelong memories with my family there. So thankful!!
4.7
Shamrock House is a Fascinating old home and property.. We all had a great time exploring the house, swimming in the stream and roaming around the property. It is a very comfortable place, and being able to spread out in three properties worked well for us. (Ages 71-2) We most often cooked and gathered ,as well as eat in the main house. The porches are great but the furniture is lacking so bring some extra folding chairs. The houses are older and showing signs of wear, rotted wood on decks and needing upkeep. There are many fun things to do in the area and great state parks to hike and swim. Going out to Brevard for lunch or even Travelers rest for upscale restaurants was a plus. The owner, Nathan was extremely helpful whenever there was a question. It is in the country and in the mountains. Overall we had a wonderful week and made great memories as a family at Shamrock house.
4.7
Stayed here with my Scout Troop, plenty of space. Property was clean and well kept. Location was remote enough for privacy. Main house has great historic appeal. Would stay again.

Mountain getaway
We loved our stay at the Shamrock house. It's a bit of a drive to anywhere else in the area, but for me, that's a plus. While on the property, we never saw another person. The property is big, hilly and meandering. It took a little bit of searching for a way down to the creek. Someone else had commented that there was no way to get to the creek because it was all overgrown. It is true that you cannot "see" the creek from the houses. You can hear it though.....so I just kept walking along that edge until I found it....It's a bit of a hike from the houses, but well worth it, because then you have your own private "swimming" hole. Not large enough for swimming, but lovely to float around in or just dangle your feet in, and listen to the creek, so secluded!. Watch out for the creeping vines with thorns though....just a part of the area. I loved that the grounds were well kept so it was lovely to walk around the property. We got lots of exercise! Played some horseshoes, and set up some disc golf baskets for practice. There were plenty of towels, linens, etc (someone else had commented that they wished they'd been told to bring their own, but there was plenty). Due to the topography of the property, I would not recommend for the elderly, as others have stated, or those with mobility issues. The rustic nature of the property is perfect for those who are sure-footed. Stone steps lead down, down, down to the Trout House, and continue down below the Trout House to the "Honeymoon Suite". One of our party reported that their was no Honeymoon Suite....so I had to find it for them. It has a separate entrance, and it's own deck. The laundry room of the Trout House is also outside, and down the steps....so not super convenient, but we just all used the laundry in the Main house. The "Game room" is really just a card table in what was probably the dining room.....there is an assortment of games in the main house, but we never had time for games anyhow. We had no issues with the ghosts, though a couple of instances that I thought were ghostly. Just know that if you hear the Grandfather clock start quietly chiming (even though it does not run), it is just someone outside ringing the large bell. Wifi worked great in the main house, not so much in the others though. But you are "getting away from it all"! Great property, definitely recommend!

Family Vacation
We loved the stay at Shamrock House. We did experience the light in Nancy's room turn on and off by itself. We will definitely look in to staying there again when we go back to the mountains.

This property is very beautiful and very old. It’s up in the Mt. about 30 mins from in town. This place sleeps a lot of people which was very nice! You don’t get great cell reception around this property but there is wifi and a land line but you get to completely disconnect and enjoy the outdoors. We went at the beginning of April and it was still decently cold. Figuring out the units in every room took us a min to realize and the front door was almost impossible to go in and out which also kept the house cold for the elder. Our only downfall was this house is not conducive for old people or toddlers. The main cabin is very dark and our 80 yr old grandmother fell down the stairs the first day there. Thankfully totally fine. All the showers in the main cabin are claw foot so it was hard for the elder to get in and out of. All the railing on the out side were dangerous and wobbly. There was a support bar off the railing to laundry room that we had to block off so no one tripped on it again and the drive way was very broken up and unstable. All that being said absolutely loved the house being old and it was absolutely beautiful being close to so many hiking trails. We would definitely go back without handicap or elder. The littles managed the cobblestone walkways and steep concrete stairs. We truly enjoyed the shamrock house and made some amazing family memories there.

Property was unique, in a nice setting. There was plenty of room for our group. Spacious grounds. Staying in the main cabin was a step back in history. We liked having the option to bring our dog.

This was our second time staying at the Shamrock! It’s tucked along the side of the mountain, and has three cabins. Lots of wooded space and streams. We enjoy coming here to unplug from the modern world (but FYI, there is internet in the main cabin and they put a signal booster to reach the other cabins). If you’re looking to enjoy some nature with a big group, this has the space you need. A total of 7-8 bedrooms plus plenty of rooms to throw mattresses down. Grocery stores are 15 minutes away. And there’s a lot of hiking and outdoors stuff to do nearby. The host, Nathan, is always in contact in case you need something. Highly recommend!
4.7
There was plenty of room for our extended family to spread out. The kids enjoyed exploring the property. Close to some good hikes & other sights nearby. It was a little too cold for fishing but that would be great when the weather is a little warmer. Overall, a great stay for our large group celebrating a few family birthdays.
