About this cottage rental

Rose Cottage is our beautiful two-bedroom Cornish cottage based in the picturesque harbour town of Fowey. The property is full of character and just a few minutes stroll from the waterfront, beach and Fowey's selection of independently owned shops and eateries. Rose Cottage has a delightful enclosed patio garden that’s a real sun trap providing a truly relaxing and cosy retreat within easy reach of beaches, ferries and more, providing a potentially car free stay! Children and dogs are welcome.

The space

The sheltered harbour of Fowey is a truly magical destination, and Rose Cottage is just a short stroll up the hill from the centre of this quintessential Cornish fishing village. Open the gate to the property and you’ll discover the private, enclosed patio garden. It’s such a sun trap that in the spring and summer months you’re bound to spend some time here simply enjoying the Cornish sun.

The interior is lovely and bright, thanks to the neutral tones that make the most of all that seaside light. The spacious living room comes with a ‘rainy day cupboard,’ where you’ll find board games, books and DVDs to keep the little ones entertained. In the kitchen there’s a dining table and chairs to seat six, so plenty of room for you to enjoy meals together.

The story goes that Rose Cottage was originally the home of the local milliners and hatmakers of Fowey. It’s certainly ideally located for everything that the town has to offer. You can stroll down the hill to the beach at Ready Money Cove or to wander along the harbourside where you can take a ferry to Polruan on the other side of the river. As with most properties in Fowey, Rose Cottage doesn’t have its own parking. There’s space outside to load and unload, but for overnight and longer stays please use one of the town’s public car parks.

Attractions and nearby amenities
For a different view of the harbour, take the Polruan ferry over the River Fowey. The ferry departs every 10 or 15 minutes and it’s a delightful way to get started on the South West Coast Footpath.
During your stay in Fowey, you really should visit St Catherine’s Castle, one of two artillery forts that were built by Henry VIII to defend the harbour. It’s a bit of a climb, but the views are worth it. After coming back down, you’re in the perfect place for a spot of sunbathing at Ready Money Beach.
Narrow streets, steep hills, quaint fishing cottages and a working harbour – no, we’re not describing Fowey, but Mevagissey an equally charming Cornish destination. There are lots of seafood restaurants tucked away in the maze of lanes and streets here. Once you’ve enjoyed some fresh fish, why not spend the afternoon at The Lost Gardens of Heligan, a Victorian gem that was rediscovered and brought back to its former glory in the 1990s.
Further inland from Fowey is the town of Lostwithiel, This Norman town saw a lot of fighting in the Civil War, and much of it was rebuilt in the 17th century. There are plenty of antique shops to wander through – look out for a bargain! Not far from Lostwithiel is Restormel Castle, a perfectly round, 13th century ruin that stands proudly on a mound above the River Fowey. See if you can spot the famous black pheasants.
A short drive away is the Eden Project, a spectacular destination built in the heart of a disused clay pit, with unique ‘biomes’ filled with tropical and Mediterranean plants. This is a gardener’s paradise, and a fun and fascinating day out for all the family too.

On arrival the garden had a bag of sticking rubbish swarming in flies. The ground and furniture was covered in birds mess so we had to wash it before we could sit in it. I phoned the caretaker and he had the rubbish removed .It would be good if there were a box to keep the rubbish bags in

Staying in Fowey was lovely this is our second time in this property. The property was cleaner than last time with new fridge walls painted etc. We would stay in this property again and lovely Fowey. Nice walk for dogs along esplanade and headland.

A lovely cottage, a great size with everything we needed, especially with two young children. Location is excellent, a quiet area, just 5 minutes walk to the river, pubs and shops. Would highly recommend!

3 night weekend. Had nearly everything you would expect and everything worked. Great location - half way between the CP and shops.

When we arrived the cottage looked lovely, and very cosy. Great location and nice size rooms. The only main issue I have is the bedroom windows would not open, therefore we hardly slept whilst we were there as the week we were there, it was 22/23 degrees and rooms were very hot with no air. Knowing my son was in the room on his own, knowing the windows would not open was a slight worry incase anything happened. Apart from the this the cottage was a nice stay, just would of been more enjoyable if we managed to sleep.

The location of the cottage is perfect and Fowey is beautiful. The cottage is very well equipped and nicely decorated. The bathroom was good. It could have been perfect, but some rooms, especially the living room, smelt rather damp (we stayed there during the summer and we did air the rooms regularly). The cottage wasn't quite spic and span, either (which I would expect for a so called "luxury cottage"): The inside of the kitchen cupboards and drawers were rather dusty, sofa and carpet stained. Also, the mattresses were a little worn out. So all in all the flat unfortunately did not quite live up to its website promises. I intended to rate it with 3 stars, but with regular and proper cleaning it will deserve 4 stars.

we stay in Fowey every year, normally in different cottages. However stayed in Rose Cottage last year and booked again this year. The only reason we scored it down to three stars was the bathroom was tired. However the owners have installed a new bathroom so I am sure after our next visit it will get five stars. This is our favourite part of Fowey. Not too close to the church (bells) and close to a great pub. Just a gentle stroll and your in the heart of Fowey
