About this house rental
Wonderful mountain home with fantastic views of Longs Peak and the Rocky Mountains (City license # 3284). Situated on Davis Hill, a quiet residential neighborhood just two blocks from downtown main street. Perfect choice for family reunions, business off site events, retreats, wildlife watching, leaf peeping, etc. Whether it is a family reunion needing lots of sleeping space (number limited by city code) or a smaller get together with six sleeping areas our property is a great place to gather. The Davis Hill Historic House, with its breathtaking view of the Continental Divide and particularly Longs Peak, began as an inn around the turn of the last century in a smaller structure. The present stone and stucco structure was built in 1923. We operated the house as a B&B for five years and after numerous requests from guests to rent the entire place to include kitchen facilities for their summer vacations, family reunions, quilting groups and off site events, we no longer operate as a B&B. We accept weekly rentals in the peak season (Saturday check in and checkout preferred in peak season) and five or more days in the off season. Although seldom needed, we have air conditioners in the main house great room and upstairs loft.
This comfortable home is in a fabulous location. On a hill in a quiet, secluded residential neighborhood, you can leave your cars parked in the reserved on site spaces and walk to downtown in five minutes. There is a stop for the town's free shuttle service (operates during the tourist season) a block and a half away. This shuttle connects to the free shuttle from town to Rocky Mountain National Park. There are numerous shops, restaurants, wine tasting rooms, distilleries, attractions and a brewery, just two blocks away, to include Fun City-a kids' favorite. Enjoy the fabulous mountain views and birds from the large front porch.
The house has six bedrooms, two full baths and one half bath. The full kitchen is equipped with everything you need to whip up great meals. There is also a dishwasher and microwave. (See list of amenities below.) There is a large living room with TV and comfortable furniture, including couches and a recliner, surrounding an incredible moss stone fireplace.
You can dine inside at the large dining table (original hickory style) or al fresco on the wonderful large front porch overlooking the Continental Divide.
The back wing of the main house has three bedrooms and one hall entry full bathroom. The back wing bedrooms include one with a king bed, one with two twins and one with a double and a twin. The bathroom has a claw foot tub and separate modern shower. The other main floor wing has a bedroom with a king bed and a bedroom with a full bed (''the nook''). These two bedrooms are separated by a full bathroom with a claw foot tub (tub has shower attachment). The nook also has a private exit out to the front porch. The comfortable main floor period bedrooms all have antique furniture and comfortable beds.
Upstairs is a large dormitory style bedroom that is very popular with kids and teens. There is one queen, one double, one single bed and a half bath. There is also a futon and couch for lounging.
Guests often have a hard time pulling themselves away from the view from the large porch to go explore Rocky Mountain National Park, the Stanley Hotel, the YMCA of the Rockies and beautiful downtown Estes Park with the wonderful river walk. There is a propane fire pit available out back for roasting hot dogs and making s'mores as well as a large gas grill. Skewers provided. (City ordinance prohibits wood fires for short term rentals, but even If there is a city or county fire ban in effect due to weather the code approved propane fire pit and gas grill can still be used.) There is a complementary on site laundry facility. (laundry is shared with occasional use by owners, usually just to facilitate turnover). Detergent, spray and wash, etc. provided. We have a fenced area on the side of the house and reserved parking for up to four vehicles with space for a few more right across the street. A city ordinance prohibits on street parking, RVs, trailers or large campers, but we do have a nearby parking area for those at no charge. Estes Park Shuttle to and from Denver Airport will provide pick up and delivery right to our house for approximately $60 one way. We know you will enjoy your stay.
Maximum occupancy of 14 guests is dictated by city ordinance. We respond to all inquiries and calls promptly. Our calendar is always fully updated.
(We no longer rent the attached cottage one bedroom apartment. )
Our house is smoke free, to include the porches and decks. Smoking is permitted at the fire pit. We love pets, but do not allow them due to some guests having pet allergies.
Amenities: We provide the following: Blender, crock pot, toaster oven, toaster, four drip style coffee makers, one very large percolator type coffee maker, coffee grinder, pots and pans, dishes, food processor, mini chopper, waffle iron, electric knife, regular knives, utensils, teapot, rice cooker, microwave, iron, ironing board, extension cords, hair dryer, pack and play, feeding tray/chair, futon, ceiling fans, table fan, room fan, sheets, blankets, pillow cases, extra pillows, bath towels, hand towels, washcloths, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and some basics like olive oil, salt, pepper, sugar and other assorted spices. 5.0 / 5.0
We had 13 of us stay at this wonderful house for a family reunion and trip to the Rocky Mountain National Park.
The house was so spacious and well equipped with plenty of beds for us, bedding and towels. We did laundry a couple of times to keep them from piling up. The owners are friendly and helpful!
The kitchen is so well equipped. I don't think there was anything we did not have that we wanted to use. The table dishes and glasses are plentiful. Lots of appliances and cookware. The attached apartment didn't have as much, but since we rented both we shared between and did fine. Maybe the only thing I thought may be missing and it's really no big deal because we had paper products, but maybe some plastic plates and cups for when some people take them outside. I would not want little kids taking glasses outside.
The front porch is amazing - plenty of seating to sit and catch the mountain view. We enjoyed breakfast and coffee out there each morning.
the location is excellent - 10 minutes from the entrance to RMNP and a two block walk from the tourist/shopping area of Lake Estes. The town has a Safeway grocery store, a Dollar Tree and Dollar General where we were able to get anything we looked for.
Our family took plenty of food with us since some drove, but the store was a full size grocery when needed anything.
there is so much to do within walking distance in town. Enough for everyone of any age.
We enjoyed sitting around the large dining room table.

The property matched the online description perfectly. The highlights were as follows:
1) The location was perfect—within walking distance of downtown and just a few minutes' drive from the national park. It was in a quiet neighborhood with large lots, and we saw elk several times.
2) The property manager was highly responsive (he lives close) and responded to my questions within minutes.
3) The size was great for our large family. We had four families—three stayed in the large home with our grandkids, and my wife and I (the grandparents) stayed in the separate unit above the garage. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals. We also enjoyed the fire pit and made s'mores one night.
Highly recommended.

The House was great for my family of 6 adults and 7 kids. My parents were able to stay in the adjacent apartment over the garage and get some privacy. Wildlife was abundant and would walk through the yard daily. Overall a great experience.

The location of this property is perfect. Close enough to walk pretty much anywhere in town, and just a short drive to RMNP. Lots of space for everyone - we had 10 in our group. At the end of a day with some pretty long hikes, having AC was VERY appreciated.

We loved our stay! From the spacious shaded front porch with mountain views to the large great room with space for meals, lounging and games, we had plenty of room to spread out. The attached cottage provided a private, quiet space for those working during our stay. We enjoyed cookouts at the fire pit and the kids loved exploring the rock outcroppings. The main street of Estes Park is a 5 minute walk down the hill so we didn’t have to worry about parking downtown. Plenty of yard games and a hammock in the shade made for perfect evenings outside. We can’t wait to come back.

Also, the owners are so great - always on top of communication and making sure we have what we need.

Great location and view of the mountains, especially from the roomy front porch. Served our family gathering of 14 people well. From the ages of 1,year old to a 90 year old. The fire pit was popular with everyone.
Jim and Lois were extremely helpful with recommendations and very responsive if we needed anything. We definitely give this host and property a five star rating

Our family felt immediately at home in the inn, with its turn-of-the-twentieth-century furnishings, comfortable bedrooms, and spacious great room. The kitchen was well-equipped for preparation of meals for the 11 of us. Because we had gathered from four states and were aware of covid danger, we ate on the porch, in the neighborhood of rabbits, deer, elk, many swallows, and the mountains. The hosts welcomed us warmly and were very helpful. When one of our two cars was disabled, they told us of a scenic hike from a nearby trailhead to which our single vehicle could shuttle us. We recommend that visitors read all the information on the website about layout of the house and cottage and about Estes Park.

This is a perfect place for a family gathering. We love the fact that you can walk to town and don't have to worry about downtown parking.
We've been here before and it was even better this year with the addition of air conditioners upstairs and in the main room.

Great Vacation!!
The location of this house is perfect- minutes from RMNP and a short walk to downtown Estes Park. It was perfect for our group of 14- plenty of space for everyone. We really enjoyed the porch. Lois and Jim went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable- helping with a damaged stroller, collecting trash often for our big group, and giving recommendations. Would definitely recommend this house to anyone and hope we can return one day!

Great family vacation destination
We had a wonderful time during our week in Estes Park. The town is very quaint and has a lot of nice shops and restaurants. The Rocky Mountain National Park is very impressive and offers many activities for the nature lover. Plus, it was only a few minutes away! The house was very comfortable and well stocked. The porch it was a great hang out place with it’s comfortable seating areas and magnificent view of the Rocky Mountains.

Great for family gatherings!
The house is large enough with multiple rooms and beds. The loft upstairs was great for the younger crowd to gather while the older crowd was downstairs on the main floor. We had extended family from overseas come and it housed 11-13 people well. Jim was welcoming, accommodating, and easy to contact. Would highly recommend this place for family gatherings, smaller (up to 30 people) events, or just having a good group of people to stay in the same house!!

Everything you need to relax with your family and friends!
During our delightful 7 days at Davis House, everyone in our group (16 people) enjoyed the calm, well decorated and comfortable historic house, as well as the bonfire area... and the gas fireplace!
Coming from out of the country, we found everything we needed, from an air dryer to a variety of spices (we just had to get our food)! All appliances were functional.
And what to say about Jim's air compressor he used to help one of our guests' car... we are very grateful for such a kind host.
Jim & Lois make this place a home, not just a house.
Should we return to Estes, this is where we want to stay. We highly recommend it!
Many many thanks, Lois & Jim!
Hope to return soon!

I wish there were more than five stars
We stayed at this location last year for a family event and wanted to find a location for a similar get-together again this year. Everyone encouraged me to check to see if this house would be available again. They had such a great experience last summer. For a more long-winded review with details about why you should book this house please see my review from last year (Jim D. August 2017). Some things are worth saying again and here they are...
- If you want a location that is convenient to the center of town but still feels apart from the hubub, with beautiful mountain views then you will never do better than this spot.
- This is not one of those character-free, all-glass A frames that can be found in the area. Historic in itself, the house is filled with books, photos and mementos that reflect the history of the area.
- The building owners treat you like true guests. It is clear that it is important to them that anyone who stays here has the best possible experience. They are quick to respond to requests for help or advice on what do in a day. We could not have felt more welcomed.
Finally, a vacation rental such as this is a significant expense for our family and not a choice that we make lightly. We have never regretted a penny spent to stay at this spot. We hope to stay there again.

Family Reunion Friendly!
It's a great house with a lot of room for a family reunion! The house is Colorado chic and has a fantastic porch to watch the sunset. It is close to town and the National Park, making it easy to shop and hike! I would recommend for groups over 7+ to rent the garage apartment for more space and another shower.

An overall wonderful experience and great fit for our family!
We found the house to be exactly what you would expect; a wonderful mountain home with amazing scenery and a cozy atmosphere all in a perfect location. Jim was a wonderful host ready to welcome us and available to support if we needed anything. The accommodations were perfect for the after wedding brunch that we hosted for family and friends as well as becoming the ideal central location for going downtown, swinging on the porch watching the sunset or venturing out on some fabulous hikes. Would recommend this place to anyone and everyone for an excursion in Estes Park. Thanks again Jim and Louis! We loved our stay!

What a view (and no mosquitoes)!!
This July (over July 4th), three generations of our family spent a wonderful week in the Historic Davis Hill House in Estes Park. The house is spacious and comfortable! The weather was beautiful and we spent a good part of our time on the huge front porch with an incredible view of the mountains! And while we did see a number of animals, there were no mosquitos!!
Jim (Lois was out of town) was very welcoming and made sure that we knew that if there was anything we needed to just contact him. We really appreciated that they were able to supply two pack and plays and that the kitchen was so well stocked because we are a family of cooks.
We walked into town many times visiting shops, ice cream stores, breweries, a winery, and even played a game of miniature golf. We also took full advantage of how close the house was to Rocky Mountain National Park and took a number of hikes into the mountains.
This was a very memorable vacation; we would definitely go back and highly recommend it to other families.

Family vacation in Historic Davis House, Estes Park, Co
This house has special sentimental value to our family. My wife's parents rented this house 46 years ago and invited us and 3 kids (ages 6, 9, 11) to join them for 3 weeks.
This time we rented the house and had our three kids, one spouse and 6 grandkids. It was perfect for our needs. It is within easy walking distance to town, the amusement park area and the river walk. It has easy access to both entrances to Rocky Mountain National Park..
We especially enjoyed the large living room/dining room and the spacious porch with a view of Loing's Peak. It was a very comfortable house to be in for vacation.
The house is well equiped for vacation living and there was a great supply of brochures and other information about activities going on in the area.
The owners, Lois and Jim Gunlicks, live near by and were very gracious in the care , help and advice they offered.
Our group would rate our time there as a 10.

Perfect location!
We had a family reunion with 14 people and there was plenty of room in this historic house. The large living /dining room and porch were great for gathering. The best part was it's close proximity to town, which allowed us to walk rather than search for parking. The owners were very friendly, accommodating and easy to reach.

Couldn't have been better
It's hard to know where to begin. This was the best possible choice for our group and, in my opinion, for any group. We were there for a family event and I'm glad to have chosen this spot. To cover the basics, the bedroom/sleeping options were varied enough to accommodate a mixed group of close family, relatives and friends. Beds and bedrooms were comfortable and cozy. The common area was easily large enough to have a large group dinner or to have people lounging about after a day of hiking in the park and/or shopping in town. Since it was a family event the kitchen was heavily used. Every time we looked for a special dish, knife, pot, serving item, gadget or appliance we found it waiting for us.
There are some things that set this location apart from other vacation homes...
The location is PERFECT. I have stayed in other beautiful places that were perched high on a mountain with commanding views. However, if you want to do anything other than look at the view you have to get in the car and drive down to town and fight traffic and parking. At this house you can step out onto the large front porch and see a truly iconic Rocky Mountain vista featuring Long's Peak while watching elk, deer and hummingbirds nearby. It's hard to believe that it is just a few minutes walk out the back door to the center of town but it's true. Of course, entrances to the park are nearby. This made it very easy for everyone in our group to choose what they wanted to do at any time.
The building itself is historic and is decorated with care and a touch of whimsy. This is no sterile, newly constructed addition to the area. It is a historic building filled with character. Everywhere you look you come upon an interesting item from Rocky Mountain and Estes Park history. You'll find old souvenir items, a notebook with historical articles, and other similar things. With all that, the place feels uncluttered and welcoming.
The owners did all they could to make us feel welcome and at home. It is clear that they take great pride in this place and have worked to make it as comfortable as possible for guests. And "guests' is the right word to use. We never felt like renters but more like true guests in someone's home. Like good hosts they left us alone to enjoy the space but were quick to help whenever we had needed something or had a question.
I look forward to the chance to come back some time.

The Cassaday "Cousins" Reunion in Estes Park
Don't change anything...you have thought of everything...and was a perfect setup for our large group and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay. I asked for constructive criticism and/or negative input for all members of our group and no one had a single complaint or suggestion for changing anything. The layout of the house, the large porch with the view of Longs Peak, being so close to downtown and yet with open space around the property giving it that uncrowded feeling, the outdoor fire pit, the kitchen and all of the utensils, dishes, etc., and the large living room / dining room was more than adequate and comfortably furnished for our large group. Ken and Gail were great and very responsive when on the one or two occasions they were called upon. We really appreciated Gail agreeing to take photos of our group. She was very patient while our group leader struggled a little with getting our group arranged for that "perfect" photo on the porch steps.
To sum it up, the accommodations were perfect for our large group, we enjoyed sightseeing and short hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park as well as the elk, deer, and a rare black bear sighting on Friday, the Arts and Craft show at the park and a tour of the Stanley Hotel on Saturday. We found the history of the Stanley brothers and the hotel to be well presented and very fascinating.
All in all, a great time was had by all and we will definitely be in touch for our next family gathering in Estes Park. We were lucky to have found you.

When visiting Rocky Mountain National Park, our family stayed at the Davis Hill Historic House in Estes Park, CO. What a great decision! The house was large enough to accomodate our party of seven adults and three children very comfortably. We loved the home's rustic charm and cozy decor. The kitchen was well stocked for the times we decided to eat in. A laundry room was also available. The open porch was our family gathering place because of the beautiful mountain views and wildlife (elk, chipmunks, humming birds) in the front yard. The kids loved playing in the yard and swinging on the hammock. The Davis Hill House is within walking distance to downtown Estes Park, with it's river walk, shops and restaurants. Fun City, a big hit with the kids, is right down the hill featuring trampolines, go-carts, etc. The property is close to several entrances to RMNP and other activities in the area such as the cable car ride up the side of the mountain, horseback riding trials, golf and more. The owners, Jim and Lois, are wonderful people. Very pleasant and helpful. Never intrusive. If you're visiting RMNP and/or Estes Park, we HIGHLY recommend the Davis Hill House. Our family loved it and hopes to return soon!

Our family spent our best vacation ever at Davis Hill House. The owners are the most wonderful people who did everything they could to make sure that would happen. All the amenities listed in the description and more were available to make our stay special. The porch was so comfortable with such an amazing view that we spent far more time there than we would ever expected. We prepared most of our own meals using the wide variety of appliances and cookware. The easy walk to town made it unnecessary to take a car to visit the shops and restaurants. Immediate access to Rocky Mountain National Park spurred our hiking excursions and sightseeing drives. Most of all, the historical charm of Davis Hill House, appointed so precisely by the owners, made our stay extremely comfortable. The rooms were all immaculately clean and well maintained. The little extras supplied by the owners (games, books, historical albums, maps, brochures of surrounding attractions, etc.) deeply enhanced our vacation experience. However, do not expect room sizes commensurate with modern buildings. This charming former inn was built in the 1920s with room sizes typical of that era. The loft, however, is much more typical of modern-sized accommodations while still retaining rustic charm. My wife and I, our four sons, three daughters-in-law and six grandchildren were very comfortable, effectively using all the living space. We also utilized all the amenities on the grounds: the grill, the fire pit, the hammock in the pines. Our grandchildren especially enjoyed playing on the saddle straddling a rock outcropping. The week we spent here was magical, and we plan to be regular returning guests. We highly recommend this house to anyone seeking the Estes Park vacation experience.

We spent several days at Davis Hill when our daughter was getting married in Estes. Davis Hill Historic B&B saw parties, gatherings, dinners, cocktails and of course, many folks having a blast. It was the perfect place, it embodies Estes and Colorado charm and there was plenty of space for parties, with several partiers who hadn't planned to spend the night! Easy walk into town let us enjoy the shopping and dining in Estes. Elk and mule deer all around the property - we woke one morning to 60 elk in the yard. The owners were great to work with, very friendly and extremely responsive to our every need. Thanks Jim and Lois - you and your place made a great occasion even more memorable.
