About this house rental
Enjoy a secluded location close to the middle of the Island – the perfect spot to relax in the summer sun, walk in the woods, or take a 5 minute walk to nearby Somes Pond for swimming or kayaking. Yet, only a short drive to Southwest Harbor or Bar Harbor. Also, there are 4 separate lakes and swim areas within 3 miles! The high cathedral ceiling of the main room and many windows open to the south onto a large deck and an expansive lawn secluded from the sound of traffic. The basement and main living space have air conditioning.
The house sits on a 2 acre lot and is very private with woods on all 4 sides. The owner maintains an apartment above the attached garage that he occupies with his wife, with separate entrance and no window views to the lawn or adjacent house. Located nearly 800 feet from the nearest road, the sound of birds is all you will hear. The home has 3 bedrooms: 2 bedrooms with queen beds and the other with twin beds, with additional sleeping options in the office and recreation room. A large, southern facing living room and dining room with a sliding glass door provides lots of sunshine and easy access to the front deck. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, large refrigerator, and all the typical kitchen appliances and supplies. The two bathrooms compliment one another: one is a self-contained bathroom with the shower, sink and toilet all in one room. The other bathroom has a washer/dryer and sink in one room with the walk-in shower and toilet in an adjoining room. This allows more people access to getting ready, do the laundry, etc. The walkout basement is fully furnished with 2 futons, a 49' flat screen TV, books, and games for the whole family. The 5,000 square front lawn provides plenty of space to play wiffle ball, horseshoes, run around, and generally enjoy the Maine outdoors, while the side lawn is fenced in and great for young children or pets. A covered brick patio offers a barbecue area.

We arrived during a tropical storm- trees and power lines coming down en route. Power soon went off in the house, but our Super Host, Mike, provided candles, flashlights, water- all we needed. Even started a fire for us in the woodstove so we’d be warm and cozy. He made a challenging time enjoyable! When weather cleared, the location was close to fun hikes and an easy trip to Bar Harbor.

We enjoyed our stay and Michael was a great host! The house was great for kids and they especially enjoyed a big tub of legos and a rope swing outside. We liked how close we were to Acadia. There was a pizza place just 7 minutes away and a one mile trail you could take to see the sunset on the ocean just 5 minutes away!

The listing states you won’t really see the owner, but we saw him basically every day of our stay.
A huge red flag for us was that the door between the garage and main house only locks from the owners side. For safety purposes, we would have like to have a lock from our side of the door. I think this is very important for people to know before booking!!
The rental was clean & nice. The upstairs bathroom did have a musty odor that never seemed to go away.
Location - it is 15-20 minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia. The drive was not bad, but just something to keep in mind if you plan to drive back and forth multiple times a day.
The fenced in yard was a big + for our dog and safety as this property is very remote in the woods.

This house is in a great location equal distance between Bar Harbor shops/restaurants and the quiet side of the Island line Seal Cove and The Seawall. The house had wverything we needed for our stay and the host Michael is a a kind man. There are stairs to the bedrooms just so you are prepaired. I would highly recommend it.

A very lovely property tucked away at the end of a wooded drive. This is a great house with everything you could possibly need. There were only 2 of us, but the house can accommodate quite a few more comfortably. Michael is a great host and was very helpful.

This was a nice secluded home less than a half hour from Bar Harbor, so we had a great balance between peaceful relaxation and fun activities. The house was clean, plenty of room, with all amenities. The owner respected our privacy and was not at all intrusive, but we did see him on occasion. The fenced-in yard was a great plus for the dog. The Wi-Fi was not reliable during our stay, and our Verizon cell service was pretty weak in the entire area. If you have to do any work while you are there that may be a challenge.

The house is in a beautiful, quiet, and convenient setting...lovely gardens.

The house is very nice and fit 9 of us just fine. There was plenty of privacy. We enjoyed our week stay.

Nice house as advertised. The only negatives are there's a leak in the downstairs bathroom sink faucet. Not a big problem but could be addressed. Also the downstairs shower drain isn't in the lowpoint of the shower floor, thus water pools up. There's a small squeegee in the shower that I used to redirect water to the drain after showering, but it was a minor inconvenience.
The outdoor lobster cooker was great. (I need one in my life LOL!!!). The upstairs bedrooms were a bit warm according to our kids.
We didn't use the outdoor fireplace (chiminea) because it was directly under an evergreen tree. Didn't want to cause a forest fire. I suggest it gets moved away from there. The yard for the dog was great.

We had a lot of family staying in the house together for 2 weeks, and everyone enjoyed it. It's nice and secluded, but close to everything. 15 minutes to Bar Harbor, Seal Cove or the Cadillac Mountain entrance, 10 minutes to Southwest Harbor, 20ish minutes to Ellsworth.
Michael is a great host who responded immediately to any questions. And the house had everything we could want, right down to tools for cracking open lobsters!

Great location. Very secluded but yet super close to Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and all other popular locations. Neighbors were barely visible in the distance, surrounded by trees. The property owner was very friendly and helpful. We had a great vacation with family including our Goldendoodle, Willow! The area was very welcoming to dogs, and she went nearly everywhere with us, including restaurants and some stores. It was our first time traveling to Maine, and we’ll definitely be back!

Michael's place worked well for our large group. The space is flexible and accommodated many adults, it may not work as well with small children if you want to be all on one floor. We did have a lot of questions and Michael was very responsive. It may help to have a guide with home info+checkout instructions available. The listing set our expectations very nicely - lots of space, plenty of linens, fully equipped kitchen but don't expect the ritz carlton. I would definitely stay there again!

Property is in fantastic location, minutes from pretty much everything you want and need. Despite that, the wooded lot feels very quiet and private.
Home is very well appointed (fantastic cinema system for evening movies!). An air conditioning unit downstairs is a bonus in Maine but despite it being warm we never needed it as the house stays plenty cool enough with the windows open.
The property was also very clean so full marks there too!

We had an absolute great time hiking Acadia National Park. This place was a perfect spot for us to call home for the week. it is secluded in the woods, but centrally located to get to the different parts of Acadia. Highly recommend!

Wonderful place!
Traveled with my husband, daughter, son in law and grandson. This house was perfect for our week stay. House had everything we needed including toys. Was close to the park and Bar Harbor. Michael was very available and responded quickly to questions. I loved the flowers and woods around the house. Everything was perfect.

Great location and host
We had a great time! The home was comfortable and fit our group of 10 really well. It’s central to the island, so activities were easy to get to. Would definitely stay here again!

Nice, comfortable stay!
We had a great time staying at Michael’s place for a week. The house was located about a 15-min drive from many Acadia hikes and Bar Harbor, serving as a great base to explore the region. The living and dining room were perfect for our group of 5 plus dogs. The fenced yard was perfect for the furry ones. The kitchen was super well-stocked and comfortable to cook in. Michael was super helpful so I recommend the stay!

Great location - close to everything but so quiet!
This was a great space for our week in Acadia. We are regular visitors to MDI and this was our first time staying in Somesville, which is wonderfully situated between both sides of the island. 20 minutes from Bar Harbor, less than 10 to the quiet side mountains. The house was well-appointed and had everything we needed. The layout is great and gives everyone their own space to retreat. The house itself is set back into the woods making it feel as though it's really off the beaten path (we were visited by several deer!), but it's not - truly the best of both worlds. Our dog was welcomed warmly and he loved the space as well.
Mike was extremely responsive and easy to work with. We wouldn't hesitate to return to this beautiful property!

Perfect space for our family
Loved staying here! Plenty of space, both indoors and out. We wanted a place that would provide gathering space for our family, as well as private sleeping areas. In addition, a lovely outdoor space provided our pup a place to romp and a perfect place for a cup of coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. The location was perfect - right in the middle of MDI, and very quiet. Mike was very helpful and responsive. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Peace and tranquility
The property is located about 18 minutes from downtown Bar Harbor. Nestled in woods. Lovely home. Note - forgot to check on AC -no AC, but a fully furnished basement with a tv theater system - perfect for getting away from the heat. Great location also if you have dogs as there is a fully fenced in side yard that goes back just far enough in the woods for your pets to explore. I would encourage our host to make sure that yard is mowed as our dogs are small so the high grass was a bit of an impediment for them. Our host lived on the property which made him available for any questions, etc. Very caring host!

Pros and Cons
My family and I stayed at this property for our week long vacation on Mount Desert Island. We typically camp but this year decided to opt for a rental due to having an infant.
Pros:
-host was fairly quick to respond to messages when we needed refills/additional supplies (water, laundry detergent, dishwasher pods, paper towels)
-the house was open and spacious with plenty of room for 6 adults
-the house is located away from the road and is quiet
Cons:
-some minor things needed to be repaired (leaky seals around both bathroom faucets, broken toilet roll holder)
-There was no hand towels provided (when asked, we were provided with washcloths) or bathmat in one bathroom (was slippery getting out of shower due to tile flooring)
-Host needed to bring in contractor while we were there (host ok'd with us first but was still an intrusion on our vacation)
-the basement area (including 1 bedroom) is cool and damp (a dehumidifier may have helped?) and smells "doggy"
-we were not notified of check-out procedures until 10pm the night prior to checking-out. perhaps written check-out procedures could be provided or left in the rental so guests have enough time to complete these things

Hidden gem
Great house in a quite and secluded area of Mt. Desert. Close to all Acadia and Bar Harbor activities and attractions. Michael was kind and helpful with all our questions. Highly recommend.

Wonderful host and perfect vacation home!
We have been coming to Acadia National Park since 1985, and have rented several great properties, but this one was the tops for our family. The house is spacious and very clean. Our host, Michael, was wonderful. He addressed all of our needs, was knowledgable about things to do in Acadia, and went above and beyond your average host. Lots of wonderful little touches such a refilling a water cooler for us and having laundry detergent available made our stay very comfortable. As others have noted, Michael and his wife live on the property, but you wouldn't know it. I would definitely recommend staying here, and hope to return again soon!

Beautiful spot, great location
This was a great home away from home for us during our week in Acadia. 15 minutes away from any point on the island. Hosts were kind and helpful. Fenced in yard was a huge plus for our canine family.

Great house, great location, comfy beds!
My friends and I stayed here Monday through Friday in late September, and spent our days rock climbing in Acadia National Park. We loved coming 'home' here every night. There was plenty of space for us to cook and eat meals, and we enjoyed relaxing in the living room, rec room, and yard. We all slept well too, so the beds must be comfortable! We're already dreaming of coming back next year.

Lupine Lane MDI
Good location for day hiking extended weekend in Arcadia. Grounds were lovely and well maintained. Property owners live on premises (above garage as stated in previous reviews) and were available for questions and recommendations but never obtrusive. Nothing fancy but was clean and spacious - fit the bill. Would visit again.

Acadia parks trip
This property appeared in real life to be the same as pictures/video online so that was nice. We didn’t realize the owner lived on property above garage which was a little unexpected, but both Mike and Pam were very accommodating and friendly to my whole party and pets throughout the entire stay. Location was very close and accessible to all the Acadia spots we annually frequent. Usually we go tenting in a different area, but decided to rent a house this summer due to Covid. Overall, it was a very nice stay.

Our group was comprised of 6 adults and a dog. The house fit our needs well. The location is quiet and peaceful.

Very comfortable, spacious and quiet home.
We were very impressed with the property, specially given we had two dogs. The ease of letting them roam around the fenced area was a bonus for us and them. The location is also the best. Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor are both less than 15 minutes away. Southwest Harbor about 10 minutes, and Freshies just up the road has everything you need in a pinch. Only reason I did not give 5 stars on overall rating is that we felt a little odd given the owners lived in the same building and would spend time outside in the afternoon while we were there. Our dogs do not do well with outside distractions, so we had to kennel them up for periods in the afternoon. Other than that I must say Michael and Pam did the best to make sure we felt welcome and comfortable and are very accommodating homeowners. Lastly, the flowers in the property are amazing and well tended. Really enjoyed them and the dragonflies they attracted.

Lovely home in wonderful location!
Our family of 6 plus our 3 dogs had a terrific week in this great house. There was plenty of room for everyone. Having a fenced in yard was a real bonus. The location really made the week for us. We were close to,shopping, Bar Harbor, hiking, and all outdoor activities. Lots of restaurants to pick and choose from. Thank you for a great stay!

We absolutely loved the privacy of this home, the layout was perfect for two families and the location was ideal! Just a few miles from the entrance to Acadia. We really enjoyed the stay! Thank you, The Walton Family

Absolutely wonderful
Absolutely wonderful place to base your stay on MDI. Close to Bar Harbor, almost in the middle of Arcadia NP and there are a gazillion lobster pounds to satisfy your wildest lobster cravings. Pam and Michael were superb hosts, friendly without being intrusive.
Our number one place to stay when we return to the area.

Great location and a pleasant stay1
We recently had our family vacation here, which included 6 adults, 3 children and 1 dog. We were very pleased to have the fenced in yard, for both the kids and the dog! We enjoyed the deck, and also the yard as well. We played bocce on the lawn, as well as having plenty of space for playing around with balls and such. The kitchen was well equipped, as was the rest of the home. Even with all of us, we did not feel too crowded, even with the living room being not too large....the nice weather had us out and about quite a bit anyway. We were able to walk to the pond, which was great. The owners were very accomodating, and easy to touch base with, as they live in an adjoining area. The negatives? Well, with little kids waking early, we DID hear them, and they heard us when they were being put to bed in the basement. The stove was a little tricky to work, but you can overcome that. The huge bonuses to this place was the location, price, and the ability to accomodate our crew. We were pleased.

We loved this house in Somesville, so close to all that MDI has to offer.
The house was very well-equipped for our needs, with plenty of room for the eight of us who were there. The rooms and side fenced yard are actually much larger than they appear in the photos. I hope we get a chance to return some day. Our favorite outings were sea kayaking on the west side of MDI, the ocean trail down to Otter Cliffs, and our low tide walk on the Wonderland trail, looking for tide pool creatures as the fog rode through. Also, if you like seafood, you have to visit RAT's clams and mussels, just a little north on 102 from the house--- sweetest and freshest clams you'll ever eat!

Just returned home from a wonderful vacation on Mt Desert - so much to do and enjoy there!
Had a wonderful experience with the Lupine Lane home. Accommodations were just as described and more than adequate for our group of 7. Michael and Pam were welcoming and helpful with everything. We wound love to return to the area again and would definitely stay here again!

Very accommodating hosts. Great location. Big and clean.
Nice big front lawn and room in basement for kids to play! Great swimming location near by. Nice to be able to go to both sides of island with ease.

Wonderful, well maintained home! Ideal location on MDI to do everything.
This is a beautifully maintained and cared for home and property. It is ideally located to all the hiking, biking and swimming. We were able to pack in a lot of activities for the week because of the close proximity to everything. Yet it's secluded from the road to give privacy and a tranquil place to relax. Great setting.
Michael and Pam were wonderful and helpful in pointing out places to see and visit and made our stay more enjoyable.
I highly recommend this home to anyone planning a visit to Mount Desert Island.
