The Vermilion Park Inn is not new to Soudan, Minnesota. Formerly a miners' hospital built in 1891, many a native boasts of being born there. Now it is a wonderful and charming year-round bed and breakfast in northern Minnesota close to the Canadian border. It is perfect for retreats, family reunions, snowmobile clubs, or for couples or individuals who just want to get away from it all. • A large commons area is great for small meetings or causal conversation. There is even an old fashioned poker table in the lounge where many a card game is enjoyed. In the lower level, tables are ready for quilters, scrapbookers, receptions or business meetings. The commons area offers a large TV, speaker system, and DVD player. • The dining area is set up every morning for breakfast. Fruit, cereals, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, pastries, toast, bagels and cream cheese are offered along with coffee, tea, milk and juice. • There are 11 bedrooms - all bedrooms have cable TV, wireless internet, and seating areas, many with desks. Five bedrooms have private baths and six bedrooms share bathrooms. • The owners have traveled extensively and bring their knowledge of international flavor to the Inn. • All beds are new with mattress protectors, are comfortable and boast 100% cotton sheets and pillow cases. Cotton towels and washcloths are included. • The grounds are spacious, well groomed, and provide ample room for large group activities. Croquet is available for your enjoyment as is the large fire pit. Several seating areas both inside and out lend to the warm atmosphere of the Inn. A piano is available for sing-a-longs. • Two wheelchair ramps lead to the accessible first floor rooms, lounge and kitchen/dining area. • Want to fish? Don't have a boat? No problem. Several fishing guides in the area will pick you up at the Inn, provide the boat, bait, life jackets and poles. Please ask the staff to help set this up. If you bring your own boat a launching ramp is located nearby. There is plenty of parking on the property for boats, snowmobiles, ATVs and their trailers. • Don't just limit yourself to the summer, as we are open year ‘round. Enjoy the leaves changing color in the fall and hike to your hearts' content on the Mesabi Trail. There are many places to go hunting, and as the lake freezes over, ice fishing is a must. You may rent an ice fishing house or bring your own to catch 10 different species of fish. Giants Ridge ski area is only 30 miles away where the US Olympic cross-country ski team trains. Snowmobile groups are welcome as there are many groomed trails in the area. If your snowmobile breaks down, you may repair it in our enclosed garage. The new Vermilion State Park is nearby and is reachable by the Mesabi Trail across adjacent to the inn. • The Soudan Mine is the deepest mine in the USA and the only one that you can go into and pretend you are a miner for the day. Ely and the canoeing Boundary Waters are only 20 miles north of us. On the way you can stop at the Bear Refuge Center and watch as wardens feed the bears. The Wolf center has new pups this spring that are fascinating to watch. • From church or college retreats, to weddings, anniversaries, or family reunions, there are activities for everyone. • If you would like to plan a romantic get-a-way with your sweetheart, this is the place. It is also a lovely place for those who wish to unwind and regain energy. • Lake Vermilion is a 43,000 acre lake, the 5th largest in Minnesota. Many nearby restaurants welcome you as does the Fortune Bay Casino and it’s award-winning golf courses. Many golf courses are within easy driving distance. • Whether it is ice fishing, musky hunting, or other game fishing, this beautiful lake is ready for your visit. • The Vermilion Park Inn welcomes you to explore the area and take comfort as our guests.
