We had a great stay. Loved the house, the front deck with amazing views, and the pool. The road to and from the house was quite the adventure.

Although the view was spectacular, the drive to the house was challenging and stressful. Not only is a 4X4 an absolute necessity, it helps to be a confident and experienced driver. Jorge was helpful and easily accessible, However, written detailed road directions would have been appreciated. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay in that well-appointed house.

Spacious modern house on mountain overlooking the Pacific and whale tail reef. From deck saw toucans, parrots, macaws flying by. Enjoyed visit by neighbor coati. You can hear howler monkeys in the distance. Great pool. Very private. Jorge and Trina, property managers, were responsive and very helpful. Good surfing at Playa Chaman nearby.

A peaceful paradise!
Beautiful location, very comfortable, love the views and environment... Waterfalls, beaches, animals all met or exceeded our expectations! Be prepared for a fun ride up the hill to get up the mountain... Make sure you have a good 4X4. Suzuki Ventura or equivalent worked fine for us. If more than 2 or 3 people a second 1/2 bathroom would have been nice... Easy to add a powder room near laundry room outside. Outside of that a fantastic experience! Would recommend to any adventurous visitor!

FANTASTIC
My mom and I spent 2 weeks here. We slept and ate and sat on the porch watching the birds and animals and rain and tide and sunsets. We saw all sorts of birds including several pair of toucans, falcons, parrots, hummingbirds, and several I'm still looking up. Butterflies, cotys, lizards. We didn't see any monkeys around the house but we sure heard them. I think it was the troop that live down by the waterfall at the bottom of the road (which is worth visiting). It was quiet and perfect for what we needed. The house is great. The kitchen has enough to do some cooking, and eating out on the porch was a treat. The pool is just big enough to do some (very) short laps, and I went in almost every day. We grilled some fresh caught tuna we bought from a fisherman in Dominical. The dvd player was a nice extra - hadn't watched a movie in ages. The washer/drier was a definite plus since I found the humidity precluded me from wearing clothes more than once. Tina, the property manager, is a jewel - she was very helpful and attentive and nearby. As for the road - it is 15 minutes of steep rough switchbacks, but it is very manageable. We probably won't rent a house with that long of a road to get to again, but it was fine for us on this trip since we didn't go out everyday. Ironically, driving it at night was easier since you can see headlights coming around the tight turns. If you are a wimp driving, this might not be the house for you, but otherwise, you'll be fine, especially if you plan to hang out at the house a lot. Just think of the road as part of the adventure. I recommend eating at Los Laurelas at the bottom of the hill (we didn't but it comes highly recommended) and Pizza Time. As for the waterfall - go in on the BOTTOM entrance - there is a butterfly garden and is easier to get to the falls. the upper entrance is run separately by the restaurant and has steep steps down (and back up). As for groceries, we shopped at the BM just south of where the road comes out in Uvita. It's bigger and has a pretty good selection. Two different atms in town kept us well stocked with colones (if you have a Fidelity or Swab debit card, there are no fees). If you need a doctor (we did), there's a wonderful one right there (behind the Dome). Ask Trina for his number. This is a great place to stay and we highly recommend this house and this region of CR. Enjoy!

Beautiful home on the mountain
Loved our stay. View from the deck and inside of the house was stunning! House was well equipped with everything with needed. Very private. Caretakers Patrick and Trina were also wonderful.
Steep drive up for sure, but stunning views as a result.
One of our favorites was Uvita falls early in morning as we basically had the falls and pool to ourselves for a bit.

Breathtaking Views from the Deck
We truly enjoyed our stay at 9 Degrees North!! If you are looking for a wonderful, cozy home to relax and enjoy the mountains this is it! The views from the lovely deck and pool were absolutely amazing, especially watching the Whales Tail disappear and re-appear with the tides. The deck was a wonderful place to enjoy meals and morning coffee while watching various birds. The beds were very comfortable and the A/C units kept the house very cool. The living room was cozy and came equipped with dozens of family friendly DVD's and family games. The house had a nice modern kitchen with everything we needed to prepare meals and there were 2 grocery stores at the bottom of the hill that had a good selection of food. It was nice to have free WiFi service to catch up on emails and social media. Trina the home's caretaker was lovely. She gave us lots of ideas for things to do and great places to eat! You'll definitely need to rent a 4x4 and as getting up the mountain was quite the trek - no need to do an ATV adventure as getting back and forth everyday is an adventure! The waterfalls near the bottom of the hill were very nice and the Nauyaca Waterfalls are a must do if you are in good shape and can handle getting down the rugged path. We enjoyed exploring and going to different towns and beaches everyday. We discovered a lot of great restaurants high up in the mountains with amazing views. The locals "Ticos" as they call themselves were all very friendly and we felt very safe. All in all Costa Rica was amazing and we would definitely return and would recommend this house to anyone!!

Great Views but be prepared for a long road
First the good things: The views are fantastic and the bird watching was amazing. Toucans right off the deck. The home was very nice and Trina the caretaker was extremely nice, helpful and informative. Uvita is a great location.
Now the not so good: We were advised to rent a 4x4, which we did, but be warned it is 7KM of incredibly washed out bone-jarring road that takes 25 minutes to navigate in the day time, especially in the rainy season. (not 10 min as stated- our rental near Atenas was a nice 10 min drive up a mountain) This was our 3rd time in CR so we know what to expect from the roads there. They have internet but it was barely serviceable - you can check emails. We were told we could stream a movie on Netflix. No chance of that. TV is pretty much for DVD watching only (which there was a decent library of DVDs for all ages). Very nice pool but no deck furniture, so we couldn't really enjoy time by the pool - kids swam in it once.
We still had a nice trip - Uvita is a great location with a lot of fun activities nearby. Playa Ventanas was definitely our favorite beach and the Farmers market on Wed near the soccer field was worth the trip (best Plantain chips around and tons of perfect fruit!). Be sure to eat at Sibu (it's amazing!) and Baker Bean has the best bagels - poppyseed was light and delicious!!

Fantastic home with a beautiful view
This house is spectacular with a huge deck to enjoy the beautiful view. We also enjoyed the view while cooling off in the swimming pool. It is equipped with all the necessary essentials for cooking, relaxing and having a great time. There is an outdoor shower and laundry room, which came in very handy after hitting the beach. We loved it so much, we will be back and hope to stay here again.

9°N Perfection
I spent a week at the 9°N Treehouse in April 2017 and can't stop thinking about when I'm going back. The trip was booked a few months out, and having spent time in Dominical the previous year- I couldn't wait. The main intent of the trip was to surf, but due to an unfortunate broken wrist a few weeks prior to leaving- I was leaning towards backing out days before. Fortunately- it didn't take much to twist my arm [the good one] and decided to join the guys...If anything, I could still hike and enjoy the country from land.
We arrived at the house at night. The drive from San Jose was seamless with the newer paved roadway but we were all exhausted from the days travels and ready to turn in for the night. There were four of us and after a rock-paper-scissors battle, I claimed my space in the loft where there were two beds. The day quickly ended.
I think the next morning was when I first realized the magic of 9°N. I was the first one up, and after a quick familiarization with the kitchen and its amenities- I was on the porch, coffee in hand, looking out at the Pacific, listening to the animals all making their plans for the day and realizing I made the right decision.
I spent the next 5 days on the beach, hiking in the rainforest, exploring, meeting locals, eating amazing food and enjoying every second regardless of my injury. And after all the days activities- coming home to 9°N at the end of it all was a very comforting feeling.
The pool, outdoor shower, comfortable bed and linens, breathtaking view, and quality of the residence are just a few of the reasons Ill be coming back. Ive stayed in much larger and more expensive homes around Uvita and Dominical and feel that I found my spot. Im ready to start making memories with my friends and family there- Plus, I heard there's a resident sloth and I have yet to met him! 9°N is Amazing and captures all the qualities the pacific coast of Costa Rica have to offer. Pura Vida.

Our vacation in Costa Rica
This is one of the best places to spend either with family, friends and/or just your better half. It offers the best of Costa Rica with great views, amazing sunsets and perfect weather allowing you to see the beauty of nature. You feel like you are home, away from home. Very romantic and private for any occasion, really enjoyed our time, didn't want to leave. We will be back for sure!

Relaxing and fun vacation!
Our vacation was delightful. You just cannot imagine how relaxed you will feel looking out at the view from the porch of this beautiful, well appointed home. Pictures do not do the view and home justice!
The weather was fine and no air conditioning was needed but air conditioning is available in each bedroom if needed.
The kitchen had everything I needed and more. We fixed dinner almost every evening and really enjoyed eating on the porch and taking in the view.
In the bathroom there were plenty towels, including beach towels etc. The beds were very comfortable and the ceiling fans made it comfortable without using the air conditioning.
Each day we ventured to different beaches and waterfalls which were amazing .We also went horseback riding on the beach. We enjoyed going to the surrounding areas like Dominical and Manuel Antonio which has a national park. In the park we saw all sorts of animals like monkeys and sloths and even a little new born deer. We enjoyed shopping in the open market places in Dominical and Manuel Antonio.
At the bottom of the mountain there is a grocery store which has the the groceries and other items you might want or need for your stay.
You will need a four wheel drive vehicle for the mountain road. Make sure to rent one when you arrive in Costa Rica. John told us about a car rental facility which is very close to the airport in San Jose.
There are plenty of restaurants where you can get delicious lunches or dinner . Just check them out. You would not have to cook if you didn't want to cook.
There were DVD's to use and other games etc. in case you wanted to stay home. The pool is beautiful. We enjoyed relaxing around the pool after our day trips.
I really appreciated a washer and dryer .
There is security from 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.
The house is well appointed and exceptionally clean. The property keeper was very nice and helpful with advice on where to go as well as making sure we did not need anything.
I will make sure I return to this rental because we really enjoyed our stay!
Thank you Leigh and John!

Wonderful stay at 9 degrees north!
My husband and I spent a very enjoyable week at 9 Degrees North, over the holidays. The house is beautiful, spacious, and well equipped. The pictures really cannot do justice to the view, which must be seen to be believed. We found everything we needed, including plush towels, comfortable beds, an excellent shower, fans, beach towels, purified water, ample storage space, games, movies, and all needed to prepare meals. The house was large for two people, and would work well for two couples or a family. Everything was spotless on arrival and following a mid-visit-cleaning. We have experience with four-wheel drive roads and did not find the road to be a problem; the 4WD Daihatsu Terios we rented was perfect for us. Trina (the property manager) could not have been more friendly, helpful, or responsive; communication before and during our visit was excellent. We absolutely loved the location, which allowed us to enjoy a new adventure each day, and then return for a swim in the pool, drinks, the sunset, dinner, and a great night’s sleep. Our adventures included trips to Nauyaca Waterfalls (which we hiked), the closer waterfall down the hill, Manuel Antonio, Marina Ballena, Hacienda Baru, Ojachal, and visits to Playas Hermosa, Ventanas, Tortuga, Dominicalito (beautiful, incredibly long, almost empty beach!), and Dominical. We ate lunch out daily - favorites included Roadhouse Deli, Tortilla Flats, and Cafe Mono Congo - and prepared dinner using items purchased from the BM grocery or Mama Toucan’s, in Dominical. (Tips: Purchase paper towels, bar soap for the shower, and any needed spices or condiments before heading to the house. Also, the BM on the far side of town, ~1 mile South of the first, has a larger selection of produce and a chilled wine area). We also had a wonderful dinner at Kura Design Villas, within walking distance. (Tip: Ask Trina for their phone number to make reservations). Every morning we enjoyed coffee and fresh fruit on the deck. (Tip: You can purchase excellent coffee beans at Sibu in town, and they will grind them for you; they also have great breakfasts!) We spent many hours on the deck, just gazing at the incredible views. We honestly cannot recommend this house more. This was one of our favorite vacations, and the house ranks very high among the top rentals we have arranged through Homeaway or similar (many!). If you are interested in this area and the size of the house works for your group, don’t look further, just book!

I highly recommend, awesome place to vac.
This property is awesome, I chose to stay in the loft so I would have a beautiful view of the ocean in the morning. Great outside deck. Could not ask for anything more, I'll definitely be back. I highly recommend!!!!

Great place to relax and enjoy the view
I recommend this place for those seeking a view and relaxation. The owners are accommodating and have built a nice clean practical home that gives you everything you need for your stay. For the price this is definitely a great deal. The drive is adventurous and well worth it. This is where we got a view that made our trip worthwhile. The deck is great and gives you a lot of extra space. Once you are there you realize it's all worth it and you won't want to leave. I would go back.

Beautiful but too much hassle. ENVISION goers DO NOT stay here
The view from the home is amazing. The deck was great for practicing yoga in the morning. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to make meals without any trouble. It was also great to have a washer and dryer available. HOWEVER…
The swimming pool gave us an electric shock! The first time one person was in the pool and it was quick so they were not 100% sure what had happened. The second time multiple people were in the pool and were quite jarred. This was extremely scary to those who were shocked and just not acceptable.
The drive to the house is extremely steep and quite dangerous. You need to have a very serious manual 4 X 4 vehicle. We had been to Uvita previously and stayed on a mountain so we had no cause for concern but this is not your average road even for Costa Rica. If you want to take multiple trips from your rental a day this is definitely not the place for you. If you are content to sit in one place all week it could be ok.
We were coming to Uvita to attend Envision festival and did not want to camp. Immediately after making the reservation I received a message from Leigh that we would have to pay an extra security deposit for this week. I agreed because I saw no reason that there would be damage. I asked very early on if she had any special expectations for how the property should be left upon check out due to this additional deposit request but received no reply. Leigh was only interested in sending prompt messages when she was trying to get her money. At all other times her responses were quite slow and unfriendly, she seemed very annoyed with my questions. I was very disappointed in her attitude towards us. Upon arrival at the home Trina, the property manager informed us that many homes had been trashed in the past by Envision goers. It seems it was assumed we may do the same. (I can’t believe anyone would drive up there to party!) Leigh never directly stated her concern but it seems implied in the request for the additional security deposit and her attitude. Had we known it was so hard to get to/from we would have happily stayed somewhere else but this information was not disclosed, only that we needed a 4X4 vehicle. The whole interaction and stay at the home was definitely the downfall of our trip.

Beautiful view in sparkling house
We enjoyed two weeks at 9 Degrees North in February, 2016. The house is new and fresh with large porcelain tile floors, full size refrigerator, efficient gas stove, dishwasher and beds for six (2 queens and 2 twins in the loft). The large open room has the kitchen at one end, sitting area at the other. The bed was comfortable and each side had a recessed downlight in the ceiling for reading. The bathroom has a nice shower with a stone floor. The deck overlooks a mowed "yard" with new plants that will fill in nicely as they mature. The property is surrounded by tall ceiba and jacaranda trees where the chestnut mandible toucans stop by each morning for a look around. It was a true tropical experience to sit in the rocker and watch the Pacific roll in over the Ballena each day. The horizon disappears in the evaporative mists. The house is equipped with ceiling fans, including the deck, and two portable fans for wherever they're needed. A dip in the pool each day felt so good. In a separate building by the pool, there is a washer and dryer.
We brought DVDs to watch on the television and streamed on our laptop. We didn't have the correct cables to be able to stream to the tv. The road to the house is a classic dirt road with the accompanying large rocks, washboard areas and jarring dips. You must have a 4x4. We had a Terios (they are everywhere and appear to be the 4x4 of choice for tourists) that climbed the hill with a little difficulty at the steepest parts, but it was adequate.
The Uvita area has some very nice restaurants. In Ojochal, we ate at Exotica, Citrus, and Mamma e Papa and enjoyed them all. North of Uvita, there is Porque No at Paraiso resort, about 2 kms south of Dominical. Watch for the small sign which is nearly at the turn off the highway. La Parcel was good also.
The best place to ask for information on the area activities, restaurants and anything else you can think of is the Tourist Office located on the ocean side of the main highway. Sonia and Estela were wonderful resources.

Great home, beautiful view!
The property still appears to be brand new! It is well maintained and perfect for a family that wants more space than a hotel room. The two master bedrooms and loft make it perfect for a family (or two) to stay together. The view is amazing and the different sounds of wildlife throughout the day was great! We saw toucans nearly every day and could hear howler monkeys every morning. As the owner suggests, you should have a 4x4 if you are going to rent this property. The dirt road leading up to the house gets very steep at certain points and is probably impossible to get to with a normal vehicle. I would definitely stay here again.

Absolutely heavenly location :)
I knew we would be up in the tree canopy with this property, but had no idea what a treat that would be! This beautiful home was fully equipped and stylishly appointed--from the great movie selections, to the refreshing pool, we had a wonderful time!
I'd wake up a dawn just to hear the howlers in the distance and watch the toucans flit from tree to tree while all the song birds tweeted. Even the steep journey up the hill was an adventure and I fell in love with the carpet of fireflies below us. We were visited by some very interesting beetles and bugs and the sunsets were phenomenal. The Whale's Tale appearance/disappearance each change of the tide, was a cherry on top! I cannot wait to go back...thank you Leigh and John for sharing your home with us :)

cosy comfort
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here - as a family of 5, the top floor with 2 singles was a boon, the other two rooms were a great size, and the overall design was cosy and designed to emphasise the living space.
The kitchen was thoughtfully equipped, and the sofas comfy and the whole area spacious and cool.
Outside the deck invites you to relax, the dining table was a great place to eat and play game,s whilst being to watch the changing vista, the sea and sky merged into one, and the whale's tale appeared and disappeared with the tide, and we were able to watch the passing bird life - parrots and toucans - and hear the distant howlers.
The pool was a perfect place to cool off, after hiking or the beach, and offers great views of the ocean too.
It is not a difficult drive, but a 4wd helps, and the road takes you past the Cascada Verde, a great spot to hang out by waterfalls, leap and slide into a cool river, and Uvita centre with bank and supermarket, bakery and farmacia all on hand.
Ideally placed for trips north or south, beaches abound as do horseriding, hiking and great restaurants - try out The GoatHouse south on the highway hear to Playa Ventanas.
Thanks to Trina and Don, for their help when needed, and to Leigh for her thoughtfulness and kindness.

I would still be there
We just returned from our holiday in Uvita and we want to go back already . The house is perfect . The view is amazing , it is a very quiet place. In the morning we hear the birds and howler monkeys. It is magic. The house is perfect, it has everything we need for a family of 5. It's even better than the pictures . Trina thank you for your so friendly welcome. Leigh thank you for BBQ , it was much appreciated. Would definitely return !
Thank you so much!

Fabulous and relaxing!
9 Degrees North was the perfect vacation rental for our family! There were days where we stayed at the house and lounged out by the pool, took naps, cooked, and enjoyed the view from the porch. Other days we traveled down the mountain to explore the surrounding beaches, waterfalls, stores, and restaurants. The house was ideal for our family, as we have a 2-year-old daughter. It was safe for her to be able to run around and play while we would either cook in the kitchen or do our laundry in the bodega. The openness of the house made it comfortable to have all the windows open to let the breeze blow through. Every night we would put together a new puzzle while listening to the animals talk to one another. I would highly recommend this house to anyone who wants to relax or who wants an adventure! Thank you, Leigh and John, for a wonderful home and experience!
