About this house rental
This family friendly property is situated in a quiet street in Mangawhai Heads enabling you to enjoy all services and attractions at both the Heads and the Village.
Suffolk Street Retreat is a ‘80s built pole house with ‘70s styling. It has three bedrooms. A master bedroom with Queen bed, a "bunk room" with two single bunk beds, and an additional single bed, and a third bedroom with two single beds. A port-a-cot is also available. In total the house can sleep up to seven guests (+ the port-a-cot).
The open plan layout of the living room, dining area and kitchen makes for relaxed holiday living. A ranch slider opens on to the sun trap deck. The balustrade on the deck has been “child proofed” with the addition of chicken mesh. The kitchen is fully equipped.
A separate laundry includes a washing machine with huge capacity to deal with the beach towels and other family wash requirements quickly and easily. An iron is also available. There is a large outdoor rotary clothesline for hanging washing and, in the event of inclement weather, a clothes line under the house enables you to get the washing dry despite the showers.
Attractions within walking distance include the:
• skate board park and playground, great for the kids and teenagers
• museum which has a cafe and displays for those who are keen on the history of the area which pre-school children also enjoy (check out the long-drop!), a good rainy day activity
• Estuary for safe swimming
• Mangawhai Golf Course in walking distance, Tara Iti Golf Course is 14 mins drive
• Oasis cafe
• Op shops
• Wineries
• Walking trails
• Surfing
• Bennetts of Mangawhai Chocolate Shop, Factory and Cafe
Within a short car trip you can head south to the village to visit the shops, cafes, market and Bennetts chocolate factory. The surf beach is a five to ten minute drive to the north.
There is plenty of flat land around the bach that is suitable for bull rush and swing ball world championships.
There is no wifi available. This is a conscious choice to unplug when away on holiday. Kindred (https://kindredcoworking.co.nz/) is a local coworking space in Mangawhai Village should you want to access office facilities.
Extras: Linen (Optional, NZ$25.00 per person)
NOTE: Invoking the kiwi bach tradition you are expected to clean the house, do the dishes and take your rubbish when you leave.
Exit cleans can be arranged for an additional fee of NZ$65.00. If you elect this option it is expected that you leave the house tidy, do the dishes, and take your rubbish when you leave also.

This three bedroom retro bach was perfect for our girls weekend away. Everything was exactly as described and Alex was proactive in making contact and giving detailed information ahead of arrival.
While this wouldn’t suit someone who is mobility impaired (as you have to go up stairs to access the property), it was close to everything and even has a water view from the verandah, framed by a neighbour’s pōhutukawa.
Would definitely recommend this property.

We enjoyed this quiet, comfortable, old style, well equipped bach at Mangawhai Heads. Lovely views and walks beside the estuary.

Some friends and I stayed here for a weekend before we all went back to University and it was wonderful. There were so many board games and the house was perfect. It looked even better than the photos and felt really spacious even though there was 6 of us. We really enjoyed movie night every night there were so many dvds to choose from. The hosts were great, fast communication and explained the ins and outs well. Would love to come back!!

This was a last minute booking but we were so grateful to have found accommodation that was family friendly. There was a wide selection of board games and activities for our family to enjoy. The rooms are nice a clean and the home is cosy. We enjoyed our christmas very much

Really enjoyed our relaxed stay here with our 2yo over a few nights early in Dec. Easy play times with lots of books and Wendy house/sports equipment outside, and great location to playground and beach/Mangawhai/Waipu for exploring too. Easy communication with Alex prior to and during our stay. Thank you :)

We had the most wonderful time staying at this place, everything was close to us. Amazing views . The house moves a little bit when it’s extremely windy, we were not concerned at all. We loved it, it was just what we needed. It had video’s games , tv and all appliances and many more extras. We love the old style of the property. The owners also lovely checking we got in all ok and if we needed anything else. Was absolutely lovely. Will definitely recommend and will stay more in the future. Thank you for letting us stay in your place.

Lovely house. Great communication from hosts.
For the price, it was great. Cheap accommodation so expectations couldn't be too high.
Would have been great if the power was on when we got there, took a very long time for the water to heat up. The window in the toilet is barely hanging on so cannot be closed, winds were very strong and so we had to use a blanket to block the wind from the window. This really needs to be repaired. We did sort of expect to have tea, coffee and maybe a small bottle of milk in the fridge but again, with the low price point, you can't expect much.
One heater doesn't work, one did, it was a very cold.
Overall the house was lovely, have to keep in mind you get what you pay for. Thanks so much!

The property was suitable for our three night stay, but unfortunately,
we experienced bad weather and very strong winds. The house continually shook and walks creaked ,it was very frightening and we felt insecure. Structurally unsound house for rental.

Fantastic Winter Getaway!
Our family enjoyed a 4 night stay here and loved it. We would definitely consider returning. House was warm (pleasing given that it was winter) and we received an unexpected bonus of a small water view when we pulled the curtains in the morning (arrived at night). Thank you Alex for your great communication.
