About this house rental

This 4000 square foot Victorian style home has 100 feet of beach front with views of the ocean from all three units. There is a wrap around deck fronting the beach with a patio that features a fire pit.

The house is divided into three units but can only be rented together as one house. We have 6 bedrooms with 9 private and semi private sleeping areas that accommodates up to 14 people or 22 people at an extra charge. There is one full kitchen with granite counter tops upstairs and each unit downstairs has a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker also with granite countertops.
The house has five flat screen TVs most with DVD players and Netflix in each unit, five bathrooms (three with jetted tubs), two gas fireplaces, and two electric fireplaces.

The A unit is a 1 bedroom that sleeps up to 4; the B unit is a 2 bedroom that sleeps up to 10; and the Penthouse(PH) unit is a 3 bedroom that sleeps up to 8.

The one bedroom unit is on the first floor and has a magnificent view of the beach and ocean from the bedroom, kitchen, and dining areas. The partial kitchen has a sink, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. An L shaped queen sleeper couch surrounds the fireplace and large screen TV. The dining table is next to the kitchen island. A queen bed is in the bedroom.

The two bedroom unit is also on the first floor and has a beach and ocean view from the master bedroom which has a queen bed. The second bedroom has a double bunk bed and twin trundle with a roll away twin in the closet. The den has a large screen TV, a queen sleeper bed, a dining / game table, a bar with 4 stools, and a partial kitchen with a refrigerator and microwave.

An oak spiral staircase leads upstairs to the penthouse suite which has panoramic views of the beach and ocean from the living room, dining room, and kitchen. There is a fully equipped gourmet kitchen, informal and formal dining areas, and a large living room with a large screen TV, gas fireplace, and multiple sitting areas. Across from the kitchen is a den with a queen sleeper bed, couch, and storage ottoman. Between the kitchen and living room, French doors open to the balcony which fronts the ocean and has a built in gas barbeque.
The master bedroom suite features a spacious sitting area with a gas fireplace, TV, and a twin bed with trundle. One bedroom has a queen bed, and the other has a queen bed and a balcony. A roof deck offers a spectacular 360 degree view of the ocean and mountains.

Very interesting house with a lot of character! Overall totally worked out and met our larger group’s needs. Kinda sucked that only one of three microwaves was working when we were there but I get it - it was their busy season. Three great fridges. Pretty much only the second floor kitchen is useable for cooking which means you’ll be using that main staircase all day long. Perfect beach access and beach. Awesome living room gathering area. They provided many helpful extras like patio chairs, beach chairs, and beach toys. Communication with host was not at all my style but it worked out in the end. Thanks for a great time!

We met at the beach house from all across the country to celebrate a family wedding. The house was perfect for all, ages 10-85. Plenty of space reunite as a group, as well as finding a quiet space for those needing a time out.

We stayed at this beautiful home for our annual family weekend. 4 couples and 5 grandchildren. The home was beautiful and the location was perfect, just steps away from the beach. There was plenty of room for all families to be comfortable. We all loved hanging out together in the large living room with ocean views. Check in was very easy. The kitchen was well stocked with plates, cups, utensils, pots & pans, etc... There is a Von's really close by for any forgotten items. Everyone agreed that this home was one of the best we have stayed in.

The house was perfect for our family--4 couples and 7 children. Roomy for some quiet time if desired and plenty of seating for together time. The set-up was great, kitchen well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, etc. Tech stuff all worked. Plenty of beach toys for the little ones. I live in the area and needed a BIG place for all my family and this worked out very well. Would stay again.

This was a great place for my family to gather for a week of family time with a side of the beach! We appreciated having plenty of bedroom space. We loved the very large living room and open kitchen - it was very nice for family hangout time. The kitchen was well-equipped and functional. It was a joy to be able to send kids onto the sand and see them from the patio near the kitchen. No major issues/would recommend and would happily return.

House and location worked out great for all of our CA travelers. The pull out beds were not comfortable and had to go buy an air mattress. We had 20+ guests and did not have enough bath towels and kitchen towels. If renting this house, I would definitely make sure you bring more of the everyday items.

This was our 3rd annual Christmas Family Gathering at a VRBO. The Mandalay House was perfect for us! With my husband and I were our four adult children, their spouses and 6 grand children ages 7 to 10. What was important to us was a large family gathering room, large adjoining kitchen, at least 6 bedrooms and outdoor play space. We all thought that the configuration of the bedrooms and bathrooms was rather interesting, but the beds were very comfortable (including the two "MurphyBeds", there was plenty of hot water & water pressure and towels in the bathrooms, and the penthouse kitchen & "Grand Room" were simply amazing. Our only slight concern was the minimal kitchen dish soap, hand towels and drying towels - but since our advance materials noted that limited amounts were provided we had brought lots of our own as we were cooking all our our meals at the house. We all loved the panoramic views from the kitchen & adjoining Great Room (particularly the sunsets), being able to walk out the front door onto the beach and take the very short walk over to the huge, fantastic public park. All in all, great location!!! Also appreciated the advance information and rapid reply to questions asked from our host.

We had a nice stay here and Steven was a responsive, accommodating host. The home is right on the beach with great bay window views and comfortably accommodated our large family, all under one roof. The Main room and kitchen upstairs is a good/spacious hangout space, and the bedrooms have multiple doors between them and the main hangout area to help block out noise for any babies taking a nap or folks that turn in early. Do keep in mind that you should bring your own shower toiletries and beach towels. But there are plenty of beach chairs available and an outside hose for washing off sandy feet.

The listing make it appear that this house is on the beach with an unobstructed 180-degree view of the ocean. Not true. It does have a view of the beach, but it is behind another house. I was expecting to be fully on the beach and was extremely upset to have been misled by the listing. You should include a landscape picture of this house honestly displaying how it is actually situated. The water kept shutting off every 30 minutes to 1 hour. We figured out how to turn it back on each time, but obviously this was terrible. They don't supply toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, soap, dish soap, etc. What? For the price per night, that is like nickel and timing us. There is one set of hot pads -- silicon mitts. I put them on, took a casserole out of the oven, and burned both of my hands. Seriously, burned hands at my son's wedding? Thanks for that. We used a bath towel to take things out of the oven after that, mostly because there were no kitchen towels in the place. The cleaning crew showed up 15 minutes before our check out time and stood in the entry way like a constant message telling us to get out. Super didn't appreciate that. The whole experience felt like the owners expected us to damage their property and break the rules. Come on.... I told you we were a quiet non-partying family gathering for our son's wedding. I'm really disappointed that so many things felt like we were not welcome. Now I feel like I should be given at least a partial refund.

We had an incredible stay at this property. I am a Ventura county native and my bridal party and my fiancé and his groomsmen all stayed here for our wedding weekend. It was absolutely amazing getting to overlook the ocean as we had our hair and makeup done before the big day. There was ample room for everyone, it was clean and in a perfect location!

This is our 2nd stay at this Oxnard beach house. The house is not only as lovely as the pictures, the location on the sand is amazing. If you're looking for a great beach location, and especially if you have an extra large group of people you're bringing with you... you can't go wrong with this house. We will definitely be back.

We had a wonderful stay. My daughter threw me a 60th Birthday Party on the patio with the Beach Sunset in the Background. Our host, Steven Shoham was Awesome. We would definitely stay at the Beach House again.

Property is listed as having a full kitchen and a separate kitchenet downstairs. Both downstairs stoves have been permanently removed as well as the dishwasher. All kitchen items listed were not present in the downstairs area. Nothing. Empty cupboards and drawers.

Stunning house had room for all to spread out and relax. Being right on the beach, and on a beach with swings, basketball court, swings, was phenomenal. The beach was never even crowded. Everyone was happy and there weren't any complaints from any of the family. The house was perfect!

We rented this beautiful home for an entire group of adults & it fit us all perfectly! The home is even more gorgeous in person. We loved all of the art in the home especially. The kitchen is spacious. There were multiple areas for everyone to hang out & never feel overwhelmingly packed. We enjoyed the rooftop views & the firepit as well. Wonderful stay. We'd LOVE to stay again!

We liked this beach house with plenty of space for our large group. The location and views were amazing. The only thing that would have been helpful was a slightly better description of the house layout. This mostly because of the need to separate girls and boys with my robotics team, and it was hard to figure a plan ahead of time. But we worked that out and the team couldn't have enjoyed the place more.

I have used this many times for small retreats (10-13 people). It works well because there are so many rooms and beds, and the upstairs living room works great for meetings. The location is great too. Easy access to Channel Islands area and right by the beach.

Our group had a very nice time at this house. The views from the kitchen and living room are great. The kitchen was large and a nice space for us all to gather and cook together. We didn't get directions on how to get in prior to our check in (the host was very apologetic after the fact) and so our group was stuck outside for a bit, so I'd recommend making sure you have those instructions in advance. We could sleep 12 people all in separate beds for a work retreat reasonably comfortably (younger folks were in shared spaces, but made it work), and that's pretty darn hard to find in a house right on the beach. I'd totally return if I had reason to visit the area again.

The house has a beautiful relaxing beach view and lots of space. We had a bit of trouble checking in. After entering with the key there was an alarm that would go off over and over (we were not given a code). It took about 2 hours to get sorted out calling, texting and emailing. After we figured it out with maintenance, the owner stopped by to make sure it was all good. A few hours later the cops came by to check too. I had to give my ID for the alarm response notice. The house had plenty of space for our group and a nice big bathroom for us to get ready for the wedding we were attending. There is a large jacuzzi tub in the big upstairs bathroom that a person in the group filled for a bath on the last morning. Unfortunately just after she got in and turned on the jets black gunk started shooting into the tub, with her in it. It was rather shocking. I let the owner know and he said housekeeping thought it was dirt. All in all it was a mixed stay. Nice location but unfortunate series of events.

We had a wonderful time at this house, it was exactly as described. There were NO issues with anything and it went above our expectations. We do a family getaway every year, normally to the mountains, however,this year we changed it up and all met at this beach house. There are 14 of us and we all agreed unanimously this will be our yearly destination from now on. Thank you Steven for sharing your amazing home with us!

Despite some glaring flaws, our stay was OK, and we were considering rebooking for next year, but then we got a nasty surprise: accusations of damage. Some claims were wildly exaggerated, but others were inexplicable and apparently fabricated. Looking back through past reviews, we're convinced this wasn't just some misunderstanding, but the owner routinely submits questionable damage claims against guests. One of our kids had wet one of the beds on the last night of our stay, leaving some linens slightly soiled. The owner claimed the mattress was ruined and the mattress pad “...had to be thrown out because it smelled strongly of urine,” adding, “it was apparently washed and the plastic was ruined.” While it might make sense to ask guests to pay a small extra cleaning fee when their kid wets the bed, this claim doesn't make sense for a variety of reasons: *the sheets were only slightly soiled *we didn't wash the mattress pad or handle it in any way *mattress pads are washable *kids wetting the bed is pretty standard, and vacation rentals typically have protective mattress covers. The owner also accused us of breaking the knob on the washing machine. We never noticed any problems with the washing machine, so this claim was a complete surprise. Who would assume a broken knob on an old washing machine was caused by negligence rather than thinking it just wore out? The owner also threatened to charge us an exorbitant fee for his time dealing with these damage claims. The owner's behavior caused us so much stress it outweighed all other aspects of the experience, but there were many other problems. The house is spacious, but cleaning, maintenance, and equipment are deeply inadequate. Here are some of the problems we noticed: *House rules make many demands of guests that would typically be covered by housekeeping *Filthy rugs *Ceiling fans caked with dust *Missing window screens *Dirty windows obstruct the ocean view *Pots and pans in awful condition *Not enough mugs, dishes, etc. *Freezer won't open/close properly *While there are partial kitchens downstairs, they lack dishes, utensils, cookware, etc. *Several burners on stove won't light *Outdoor grill doesn't get hot enough to cook food *Not enough towels *Worn-out faucet *Worn-out shower controller *Dirty bathtub fixtures

Great fun with family group of 15, gathering together for a week at the beach. Spacious home and great view of ocean. It was extra special treat for us watching the local residence turn out with decorated golf carts enjoying a 4th of July parade right in front of beach house. Explored Marina attractions and just relaxed.

CONDENSED: We (11 of us) vacation on the beach in San Diego Co.1st priority, house on the sand. House not on sand, steps away. House is large with ample bdrms and baths. Able to park Toy. Tacoma in garage, space for 2 addl med cars on steep driveway & narrow space next to it. Flew in early. cleaning crew was running late-OK, let us put groceries away. We videoed condition of house before moving in. Pictures of the house as it is. Not a modern, updated house. It is a rental with adequate furnishings. Primary living area is spacious & great views from kitchen & dining areas. Living room has large windows, obscured by the salty air residue & view is blocked by the large, but convenient sofa.We didn't use TV upstairs, but the teens used 1 downstairs and it worked. Balcony area by BBQ needed to be hosed down. BBQ, on water side of the house, can't be used if it is quite windy. We were successful in cooking on it 2 out 3 times. Kitchen has a lot of prep space. Gas stove worked fine, hated the faucet, it was hard to find the sweet spot to keep it from dripping. Dishwasher was fine, it is not anchored to anything and so falls out of it's cavity when opened too far or shelves pulled out. Standard frig in this area. Largest frig is downstairs. There are adequate dishes. We did buy some plastic glasses. There is a large hodgepodge of kitchen items. We were able to cook everything we wanted to. You can always make do. The various utensils could use an upgrade. There is salt & pepper and a few misc. spices. We purchased/brought our own. You will need to buy paper items, Ziploc bags, foil, and trash bags. Bathrooms were fine. We had to buy additional TP. There is hand soap and 2 small body washes is each bath. Downstairs front area, SLOW hot water! Beds, subjective: Murphy beds, were most comfortable. Other beds were creaky, lumpy, 1 had 2 box spgs & matteress. FLOORS: large tile with rough pitted finish. There is NO way to completely clean out the accumulated dirt & sand in the floor. Just compare the floors to the same tile on the walls in the baths. Socks were dirty & feet were sandy at all times. Windows, hard to open (runners sandy & rusted at beach), no screens on some. Lots of outside chairs, umbrella, & sand toys in garage. Outside shower & hoses convenient. Fire pit nice. Lovely, quiet neighborhood. Great sunsets when clear, beach lovely & not crowded. House rules need update. Owner very responsive. Overall, had a wonderful time.
