About this house rental

Tucked on a hill and hidden from view, this immaculate, traditional home on 1.2 acres overlooking Fresh Pond has a sense of seclusion and tranquility, with prevailing southwest breezes and sunsets as a welcome backdrop. Well thought-out in every way, with double-height ceilings and a fireplace in the living room and an eat-in kitchen with a beautiful adjoining dining area. There's a brand new Weber barbecue on the expansive deck overlooking the water, where you can watch osprey hunt the pond and turkeys fly up to the oaks at dusk. The second floor has two bedrooms, both with queen beds, plus an additional twin bed in one of the rooms and a crib if needed. There is a wonderful screened gazebo for those lazy days with a good book or for entertaining by the water. A path leads down to Fresh Pond, one of Shelter Island's great hidden treasures. Fish off the dock, or take the kayaks and paddle boards out for a cruise on the lake.

My husband and I stayed here for a week and enjoyed every moment. The house was clean, well furnished and equipped, and very comfortable. We loved paddle boarding on the lake, the quick drive to the beach, and spending evenings on the beautiful deck. Philip was communicative and the perfect host. We hope to come back!

I could write for a while but in the end it would all roll into the fact that Philips home was for our family a very "peaceful retreat." At any time of our stay we had great communication if needed with Philip. He was very accommodating. The home is absolutely beautiful. Well kept. Well supplied. Tremendous setting. Great lake living with easy access to the beaches of Shelter Island. On days when the sun was hiding, we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the home and we were able to read, work, or rest. Great amenities. Thank you Philip!

This house is gorgeous on the inside! It is decorated and furnished so beautifully! What a kitchen, incredible and well stocked. The location is fantastic, sitting on a small lake, a half mile to the huge preserve and also a beautiful beach. House was immaculately clean. No long list of requirements to do at check-out, easy check-in. Only thing I would say could be improved is the outside of house and yard and deck needs some work, along with a few lounge chairs. There is even a hot tub, which was very nice. I would most definitely stay here again.

Our family has been coming to Shelter Island for many years! Our host, Phil was extremely gracious and accommodating! Our family of 5 stayed for an extended weekend in July! The house was beautiful overlooking a freshwater lake. We truly enjoyed breakfast out on the large deck. The screened-in porch was a wonderful addition and we felt as if we were in a treehouse. The home was spacious, comfortable, well-furnished with a wonderful open layout. The bedrooms were large, clean and inviting. We truly enjoyed the paddleboards on the lake in the mornings! We look forward to our next visit and would recommend this beautiful home to family and friends!

My wife and I recently spent a few days at this wonderful Shelter Island home, and we couldn’t be more pleased with our stay. To start with, the owner Phil is terrific with his responsiveness and in depth answering of our questions. Shelter Island was new to us, so he gave us great insider advice on local restaurants, events and helpful tips on the town. The island is a bucolic gem with a ton of small town events ......and plenty of opportunities to do nothing if you so choose. We had breakfast at a local pharmacy, went to a CSA farm to pick our own vegetables, lounged in the sun at Crescent Breach, had dinner at Vine Street Cafe and took in a concert at Itzhak Perlman’s music center on the island....that was just one of our days! The property is absolutely perfect. The house itself is impeccably appointed, well designed and furnished, and was absolutely spotless upon our arrival. Everything that we needed was in the home from beautiful linens and towels to a well stocked kitchen and beautiful and new monster Weber grill. The property is extremely wooded and private and the views of the lake from all rooms of the house and huge deck and screened gazebo are spectacular. The photos on the website really do it no justice. The lake itself is warm, clean and for our entire stay, extremely private...... except for the osprey, a blue heron and a fisherman in a rowboat.....all locals. Every night before dusk, we were amazed to watch turkeys fly into the oak trees beyond the deck to sleep for the night. I did not know that turkeys could fly!! There were several kayaks, paddle boards and a swim platform which we enjoyed for nearly our entire stay. This was the absolute perfect venue for our long needed restful vacation. I recommend Phil’s lake house on Shelter Island without reservation and an already planning a return trip this fall!

We are a young couple who recently stayed at the lake house. I have rented a few properties in Shelter Island through VRBO but hands down this is my favorite! The property is extremely private and quiet, and we did not see a neighbor for the entire week. There is nothing better than waking up and having a cup of coffee on the deck far above the lake. The lake itself is amazing. The owner has 3 kayaks that we used to fish off of and zip around the lake. Lake was warm and clean and is perfect for swimming. The house itself is beautifully decorated and very cozy. We love to cook and this kitchen was ideal for entertaining. The owner Philip was terrific. He made sure we had everything we needed, kept in touch throughout our stay, and gave us great recommendations on things to do on Shelter Island. We will be staying here again!
