About this cottage rental
If you want to experience living in a vintage 20's cottage in Saugatuck, Big Blue is the answer . Big Blue is a charming refurbished vintage 1920's cottage on the Hill.
Note: A new house is being built across the street so there is construction in the view. They usually do not work on the weekends but there is no guarantee of that.
There are three large bedrooms, 2 queens and 1 set of twins, all with lovely wooden floors. The upstairs bathroom has a tub/shower combination and tile floors. The galley-size bathroom on the first floor has a step-in tiled shower and tile floors. The large living room/dining room has the original walnut paneling, with antique oak dining table and chairs and comfy wicker and rattan couch and chairs. There is a screened in porch through the sliding glass doors in the dining room where you can sit and have your morning coffee and listen to the birds. The kitchen is huge, completely furnished, with lots of counter space for cooking or projects.
Rainy Days? Connect to WIFI, stream your favorite channels or watch a dvd. Plus numerous games and puzzles.
Outside are 3 different decks, all attached with 2 different seating options. The huge back yard has mature trees and plants and is so peaceful. Big Blue comfortably fits 6 people with plenty of space to do your own thing. There is a washer, dryer, and high chair.
THE FIREPLACE IS NON-OPERATIONAL AND WE DO NOT ALLOW FIREPITS.
We allow dogs although there is not a fenced in yard. We do have a pet fee.
Big Blue is just 7 blocks from downtown Saugatuck; an easy walk to shopping and restaurants. Plenty of parking on site (but don't park under the walnut tree--those can dent your car or head).
Parking is not an issue as you will have the whole driveway to yourselves.

Everything was wonderful from start to finish

We spent time at the house then found time to stroll into Saugatuck. Good sized property and the owners generously left a welcome bottle of sparkling wine for us. Easy parking and a great porch surrounded by a screen. As others have said, the property is old fashioned but suited us on this occasion.

Pros - The house was adorable. Great location. Easy to find. Easy to check in. Good communication from the owners. Would stay again.
Cons -The living room furniture was uncomfortable. Seamed to be wicker outside furniture. Upstairs bath tub should have some kind of safety slip resistant on the bottom of the tub. Slippery when wet.

Lovely place! Cozy, clean, and the front porch was so great to just sit and catch up with my friends!

What a great place to stay in a perfect Saugatuk location. Just a short walk to all the fun spots downtown, and a quaint house with lots of character! Games and space for the kids and adults were easily accessible, hosts were super responsive and helpful, and comfy accommodations in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood. If you’re looking for a home away from home, this is it! Stairs are a little steep for toddlers so keep the littles in the downstairs bedroom, but also…that’s what you get in an older house. We were a little concerned for a moment when we couldn’t find the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle provided by our hosts, but we quickly found it and the vacation quickly got back on track :) Thank you E & C for providing such a lovey space for a family that will be back!

The location is great about 3 blocks from downtown. The front screened in porch is amazing and a huge kitchen table. The downstairs bathroom leaves alot to be desired. The shower fan was broken and made a horrible noise. They had to come disconnect it and put in a light bulb. That bathroom had no window treatments and we had to cover it with a towel and duck tape. It was wide open for the neighbors to see in. The sink in that bathroom is about the size of a 1950's water fountain with a kitchen faucet on it. The mirror is of no use. The upstairs bathroom needs new shower curtains as they were rust colored on the bottom. The bathroom door handle fell off from just pulling it. They came and fixed it and it broke the night before we left. I gently pulled the door and it came off in my hand. The drain for the washer was backed up on the day we came. They did fix it and we were able to get a load of laundry done. They did not have any washing machine detergent, coffee filters, and the bathroom soaps and shampoos were probably bottles left by previous guests. We had brought our own. For the price we paid I expected it to be cleaner and stocked. The owner was prompt when we let him know we did not have detergent to wash our clothes and brought it right over. Same with the coffee filters. Just things that should have been done before we got there and not have to ask for. The owner/property manager was super responsive and did bring over a puzzle and found an extra

Location excellent. Very clean. Owners incredibly attentive, responsive and kind.
The grill wasn’t working properly and they brought us a new one. There wasn’t a proper cutting board so they brought us a new one. Like I said, very attentive.
Only drawback are the stairs to the upper level, they are very steep.
It was a lovely place and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Great home about 3 blocks from the start of downtown Saugatuck.. about a 10-15 minute walk. Found the house to be clean and in good condition although it is an older home as you can see by the pictures. Owners were prompt and responsive to our needs. We will likely be back to rebook!

Great location and quaint, old house on quiet street a few blocks from town. It worked for us as we have a dog and a two year old. Number one issue is a tv without an internet connection (aka no streaming). Besides that issue and a steep staircase in case you have kids, the house was good.

We had a lovely week's stay at Big Blue. The location was perfect for walking to town and restaurants. The pictures were very accurate of the home with a fabulous screened in porch for reading and relaxing. The hosts were very responsive and kind and loved that we actually got to meet in person. We would stay again!

Family 4th Gathering
Great location to walk to the downtown area. The kitchen and bedrooms are good. Lower bathroom is very tight, upper bath is bigger while shower is best for short people. Enjoyed spending time on the screened-in front porch. Back deck is good but seems it should have a few rails around the sides. Lounging at night was fine; living room furniture not real comfy and TV is limited without streaming technology (bring your own DVD's to watch). Building in the rear (garage & loft) is used by the owner/family so you may have unexpected visits. Overall, not a bad place to stay but could use a few updates and deep cleaning for the price.

Great Girls Getaway
We loved the house and it's location in walking distance to the shops and restaurants. It was just far enough away to feel a bit secluded and quiet. There was a lot of space for gathering on the screened porch or the patio out back and plenty of parking. Both showers were on the small side, so just something to be aware of.

Great stay at a great location
There were four of us that spent the weekend at this lovely place within an easy walk of downtown Saugatuck. The place was exactly as shown in the photos and as discussed in the write-up on VRBO. We enjoyed our stay and plan to consider this place for future stays in the Saugatuck area.

September Weekend
This was perfect for our two families! We had two couples a small pup and an infant. So close to town - plenty of parking, yard space, cozy indoor space. The screened in porch was awesome for evening sitting.
Very thankful for Chris & Ernie’s home.

Perfect for relaxing getaway
We loved our week at Big Blue. It is just like the pictures and description. The screened in porch was a favorite for morning coffee and afternoon reading. The kitchen is well stocked making it easy for a few home cooked dinners. The location is perfect! Short walk to Water St and all stores and restaurants, yet quiet neighborhood to walk our dogs. We would definitely like to stay here again!

Awesome cottage and location!
We had a fabulous 2 week stay at the Big Blue. The location is perfect as it is close to town yet just a few blocks away (so pretty quiet). The cottage had plenty of space for 4 adults and a dog. We loved eating all of our meals on the back porch, the front screened porch, or the big dining room table. The large table was perfect for our nightly dominoes games. The owners are very responsive and available if anything is needed. This was our 2nd trip to the Big Blue, and we will be back! Thanks!

Loved it!
We absolutely loved staying at this house. The location is close to downtown yet in a great neighborhood. The house features a great backyard and screened in porch. Kitchen was well stocked and there were lots of family games and puzzles. Steep stairway to upstairs bedrooms so anyone with difficulty walking should take the bedroom downstairs. Chris and Ernie were great hosts!! I would recommend this house and will return for future visits.

Really Great Location and Spacious Homey Cottage
We've been coming to Saugatuck for years and really enjoyed this location a bit closer to town, but far enough away to feel like a quiet retreat. It's a short jaunt up/down the hill to the river and main drag, and the neighborhood itself is lovely to walk or ride a bike around with cute well-kept homes and gardens to admire. Big Blue had plenty of room (and bathrooms) for us four adults and little dog. We never even turned on the TV, but there's a nice large one plus a selection of DVDs and such if you get a rainy day. Plus puzzles and books. We ate most meals on the main outdoor deck and enjoyed all the outside seating options and screened front porch. Large sturdy dining room table was perfect for evening cards and dominoes. We did wish the sprinklers were timed/set differently so as not to spray the front door and front porch furniture in the morning when we wanted to sit out there and have coffee. Maybe that can be adjusted :) (perhaps go on over night or before dawn?) Very spacious kitchen met our needs for light meals/lunch prep--has all the basics you need, including a dishwasher. It was kind of the owners to supply extra cleaning supplies and a bag of ice to get us started too. Also handy to have washer/dryer, because we didn't have enough towels, but didn't mind washing a few when needed either. We were a little worried about the small window a/c units keeping up, but after the first night (which was a hot one), they did fine and kept us comfortable for sleeping. An extra fan kept the airflow moving into bedrooms. Minor detail, but the laundry room was handy to store our cooler, and other odds and ends, so that's a bonus too. And the owners are very close by if you need anything--very responsive and prompt when we needed an extra key and paper towels. Bedrooms are nice sized with closets for luggage and hanging stuff if needed and, even with our dog crate, we had plenty of room. We really enjoyed our stay despite the COVID damper and hope to stay here again. Please be respectful of struggling small businesses and wear masks--it's such a small inconvenience to help keep workers safe and open...and so others can feel safe shopping there.

Excellent Cottage-Walk to Everything
This property is exactly as pictured. It was clean, and very well situated so that we could easily walk to shops and restaurants.
We have been coming to Saugatuck for years, knew our way around, and chose this cottage based on location. Renters should be aware that this is an old cottage with very steep stairs to upstairs bedrooms, and people with mobility limitations would need to sleep in the down stairs bedroom. Not a problem or us but worth noting for others.

Charming & convenient
Situated on a lovely street just a short walk or ride down the hill to town. Worked well for our family of four plus pup. Highlight was having morning coffee on the screened porch and catching a breeze. Even saw some playful deer out front in the early a.m. We loved Oval beach, the art barn, and strolling the shops & galleries around Saugatuck & Douglas. Easy communication with the host.

Great stay in Saugatuck
Chris was fantastic to work with. She was incredibly responsive and helpful, both before we arrived in Saugatuck, while we were there and even afterward, mailing me something that I had forgotten. In addition, the house had a great location- just a quick walk to town and in a very cute neighborhood. We loved the screened in porch and the big back yard and deck.
We did find the house to be a bit outdated- in need of some new kitchen items like medium sized pans and a new can opener- and because the owner doesn't recycle, we had to bag our recyclables up and take them to be recycled via our car- but overall, our stay was a pleasure
