About this house rental
Charming and cozy little house in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara built in 1915. The rooms are small (Think Parisian Hotel for a size comparison) but well-appointed and quaint. You'll find a place to hang your hat, charge your phone, rest your fee, set your glass and simply relax.
Great for guests who want to experience a genuine downtown local experience. One block from the Saturday Farmer's Market. Two blocks east of State Street and Joe's Cafe (highly recommended), French Press Coffee, theaters, shopping...
The back yard is the sanctuary and my favorite place to take afternoon naps under the wisteria.
My travels around the world have taken me to some incredible hotels and I owned and operated a yacht charter business for 12 years (as Chef, Steward, First Mate and Cruise Director), taking guests to the from the Channel Islands in five star luxury so attention to comfort is of upmost importance to me. The house is equipped with a full kitchen, quality linens, towels, comfortable rugs and furnishings, and if you've forgotten your toothbrush, razor, sunscreen, hair dryer, or shaving cream, you don't have to walk the (one block) down the street to the store.
There are bicycles (and helmuts/locks) for your use, a BBQ for backyard entertaining, a Bose portable music system that connects to your music library so you can have your music in any room, a game table for an impromptu chess, backgammon, or card game, and a new TV with Netflix and Wi Fi.
A few times per year, my neighbor has a party in his backyard. I never know when it's going to happen. Although they have generally been good about abiding by the noise curfew of 10 pm, I cannot guarantee that there would be some noise coming from the backyard at some point throughout the year. If that happens, a call to me and me stopping by to speak to them generally brings the noise level down! They are very respectful. They just like to have fun sometimes.

Location was great. House had everything we needed. Backyard seating was comfortable and inviting. Only concern was there were bugs on kitchen counter that scurried away when turned on lights. Appeared to be cockroaches.

We loved sitting out back. Wish bedroom windows had screens. We liked having different sitting areas so we could have separate time.
Cottage had everything we needed. Would do again.

Our group of 4 had a great time staying at this cozy, cute cottage that had everything that you could need! We walked to restaurants and shops and had a generally great time while staying here.

This property worked out brilliantly for us. We were cleared to bring our dogs along with us so everyday was a beach day for the family. The spacious yard is fenced and the walkability of the home is so convenient. The home is well stocked with everything you need and is well looked after and clearly loved. We'll be back.

We loved it here and will be back! Great location to State Street, access to grocery store, cafes, restaurants, walk to the beach. Host was wonderful, house was very clean, very comfortable and exactly what we were looking for. Thank you!

This small 2-bedroom is a great, eclectic place to stay. Walking distance to much in downtown. The backyard has a great seating area with a fire pit. I would suggest you bring a small car as the driveway is very tight. But, overall, a great stay.

The house was very well located by downtown Santa Monica. A few houses from the best farmers market I have ever been to and walking distance to the beach.

This cozy cottage is well appointed with anything you could possibly need for a carefree stay in Santa Barbara. The location cannot be beat. We didn’t use the car once. Endless restaurants, shops and bars within walking distance. Don’t miss the farmers market on a Saturday! And the beds, so cozy! I didn’t want to leave. We will definitely be back!

We loved everything about this property, very clean, lovely inside and out. Dawn communicates everything you will need to know.
Close to State street and the beach.

This property was amazing - it is smaller than others, but loaded with special details. The decor is warm and cozy, the kitchen is fully stock, the location is ideal for just about anything in Santa Barbara, and the host is super responsive. I highly recommend this rental!

This house is absolutely beautiful and Dawn is a wonderful host. My now husband and I stayed here for our wedding weekend and it was absolutely perfect. We loved using the fire pit in the back, and all the wisteria in the front and back yards were perfect for my getting ready pictures. We will definitely be back!

We had a brilliant time in this great house. It’s a beautiful space and lovingly put together, and the garden is great for relaxing. Location is perfect and walking distance from the main sights. Can’t recommend highly enough!

We were only here for one night but wish we could have stayed so much longer! Walking distance to so many great shops & restaurants. The house is so cute and cozy, and we felt right at home.

This very small cottage seems as large as you could possibly want, thanks the host's outstanding use of space and selection of high-end fixtures and comprehensive kitchen equipment. Ideally located just two blocks from State Street, and a block from a supermarket, we never needed a car during our weeklong stay. The engaging host is a model of responsiveness and thoughtfulness. We will stay there on every future trip to Santa Barbara.

We couldn't have been happier with our stay and the friendly host. As a little birthday getaway, we drove down from San Luis Obispo to explore Santa Barbara and arrived before standard check-in time. Although we had no expectations to get in early, the lovely owner offered to let us check-in since the unit was ready - perfect since we had groceries. The place itself is full of charm and unique character. Thoughtful touches, tastefull decor, and upscale amenities throughout. It is clearly a historic beach bungalow that has been very well maintained. The covered patio was the main reason we booked along with the location. It was perfect for the rainy weather to relax by the outside fireplace (which the owner also kindly helped us turn on) and the bikes were an added bonus. We were able to walk to restaurants, bars, shops, and a charming farmer's market on the next block. The birthday girl was over the moon and we hope to come back soon! HIGHLY RECCOMMEND!

This is a very nice small house. It is well maintained and was very clean upon check-in. The owner/manager Dawn communicated well and checked in with us. We really enjoyed the fire pit in the backyard! The pictures accurately depicted what you are getting. Would stay here again.

We loved this adorable cottage. It was great for us, the in-laws and our dog. The outdoor space was perfect for relaxing between excursions into downtown for food and drinks. Would absolutely stay here again! Also Dawn was extremely helpful with any issues that came up and communicated proactively.

I cannot recommend Dawn and this rental enough. She’s made the entire process a breeze with clear and concise communications. The rental was so beautifully decorated, and you can just tell Dawn has put in a lot of thoughts to ensure your stay is of utmost comfort and convenience. My family can’t wait to revisit this place when we’re back in town again!

My family had a wonderful experience! The house was very homey and located close to so many great restaurants, coffee shops and stores! All four of us enjoyed the decor and hanging out it the sitting/living room each morning and night. Dawn is so nice and welcoming! She was very responsive, easy to get a hold of and very helpful! We really enjoyed our stay!

Lots of clever and thoughtful touches in the house, great spot to relax. Dawn is incredibly responsive. Location is terrific for walking plus short drive to beach and hiking. Really appreciated the enclosed yard for our dog to be outside with us. Will stay longer next time! Thanks Dawn!

My family of three had an absolutely amazing time at dawns place. It was immaculate and the details in all the rooms weee stunning. The outdoor space and bicycles just made the trip even better. We biked down to the beach and state trees which was a block away. If you’re looking book it right away!

Amazing original California Beach bungalow with updated amenities in an ideal location!!
Perfect for a small family or friend family get away.
We had everything we needed, some days we were working remote and the wifi signal was excellent with many amazing lunch options within a 2 to 3 block radius.
On days off we were able to walk to the shops, restaurants, museums, galleries, wharf and harbor.
Great small kitchen for quick fixings at home and we even had a bbq out on the patio.
For us it was a perfect combination and truly felt like home away from home.
The owner Dawn is amazing, kind and attentive without intruding.
Our week was quite eventful with an earthquake, tropical storm, power outage and car breakdown and Dawn was supportive through it all and we still had a great SB get away!
I highly recommend if you are considering this property you book early as it is an ideal location in the city and books up fast.

My family and I had a wonderful stay in this charming, yet spacious home near downtown Santa Barbara. We had plenty of room inside and out on the back patio. We definitely will return!

The property was fantastic! We had an amazing time and enjoyed relaxing in the backyards in the evening. Just a short walk over to State Street. Dawn is very thorough and great to communicate with!

Wow! This place is so neato! Amazing beds (we slept so well!), super cute details everywhere, fun kitchen to cook in, tiny and spacious all at once! So many charming and fun details, we didn't want to leave. We had the best time with our two kids and their grandma. Super close to great coffee and all the fun of SB. It's a bit of a loud neighborhood so bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper!

The shower can not be used by older adults who have mobility issues. My friend was unable to take a bath or shower. We did not know this and needs to be disclosed. Dawn said that they are putting in a new shower but before that people need to know this. Also the partying at night starts at 11pm. Not bad during the week but I imagine much worse on the weekends. Otherwise it was a great place to stay.

This place is conveniently located and is an easy walk to a large grocery store. The host is very responsive and helpful. It has a lovely backyard for relaxing.

we had just gotten a new puppy and we’re looking for a place to transition before heading back home. This was the perfect house. Just the right size for two friends plus a puppy. The backyard is really nice with the fire pit. House was well stocked with all kinds of amenities, and it was very close to being able to walk to lower State Street.

Everything you could need, including bathrobes!! Dawn was responsive and helpful. Her “house manual” should not be missed. Comfy beds and pillows. We’ll be back.

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was a wonderful launching off point for all Santa Barbara has to offer. We had a parking spot, were able to walk to coffee and restaurants on state street and easily to the beach! The house with very cozy and easily accommodated our family of four. We were surprised at the many amenities that were included in the kitchen + games for night-time fun. Also, nice little luxuries in the towels and sheets! We would stay here again!

This place is just as advertised - small but comfortable and in a great location, just 2 blocks from State (easy walk to lots of restaurants/bars/shops/groceries), 4 blocks from the Amtrak station, and 15 minutes from SBA airport. The house has a lot of character with wainscoting on walls and ceilings. The kitchen is small but well-equipped and very functional with a gas range, microwave, dishwasher, etc. The back patio area with comfortable seating and the fire pit is the piece de resistance of this property. I mean if you're going to California, you want to spend time outside, right? This is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a glass of wine (or two :-) I'm glad to hear that the owner is replacing the tub/shower - that was going to be my only negative comment. A walk-in shower would be awesome! I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at this cottage for the month of February, 2023. The owner, Dawn, is very responsive with any issues that may arise. The location is very convenient for walking to shops and restaurants on lower State Street. The cottage is quite small, with small rooms; it's well-stocked with supplies. The WiFi is efficient and the beds are comfortable. The backyard has a table with chairs and a covered area with two long lounges and a fire pit — it would be very nice in summer.
There were a few negatives from the viewpoint of a month-long stay rather than a brief stay. The kitchen is cramped and not modernized. There was little space for storing the large volume of stuff we had brought. The front bedroom had some street noise and the back bedroom had occasional loud music from next door neighbors. The driveway is extremely narrow: our Nissan Altima didn't fit. The 75 minutes limit on street parking was a hassle. The bathroom with a clawfoot tub/shower has no grab bars — maybe an issue for less active seniors (Dawn plans remodeling soon).

The Host Dawn was great with communication. The place was well stocked from cookware, coffee to toiletries. Everything works in this really cozy home, including killer outside fire pit area. We had 4 adults and it was great.. Host Book of recommendations in SB was perfect. Oh and Neighborhood close to State Street ! Love it !

Our family, 2 couples and a 5 year old, loved La Petite Madison Blanche. The decor was stunning and artistic. The space was utilized perfectly and amenities were first class. We especially enjoyed the outdoor area with fire pit. The location is excellent, walkable to many restaurants and The Farmers Market. Dawn was a caring and helpful host, going out of her way to make our visit comfortable. Highly recommend!
5.0
The host for Le Petite Maison Blanche offers a relaxing welcome, and provides an extended list of thoughtful amenities for a week-long stay. We appreciated her pleasant and humorous demeanor as felt within the House Book, and the helpful reminders placed throughout the cottage. Most important for our stay anywhere is good sleep, good shower, and being able to bring our "special needs" dog; we're grateful for hosts who allow pets. We slept well; the beds were comfortable. The freestanding tub/shower requires a 22.5 inch step up, over, then you’re in; this was our first experience with this setup and we are not fans, but it was good to have the try. The cottage is older, and wonderfully located near everything -- and so because of this the outside noise coming inside could be unsettling. There is a fantastic collection of books. Weather permitting, it would be a shame to not take advantage of the thoughtfully situated back patio with fire pit – it is very nice! Just a reminder -- visitors with only small vehicles will utilize the driveway. Check in is easy, and check out is easy and appreciated. We enjoyed our stay!
