About this bed and breakfast

Situated in New Mexico, this lovely bed and breakfast for $105 per night is a great option for your next vacation. Located in the historic village of Chimayo, New Mexico this property is ideally located to tour all the sites of Northern New Mexico and return to the peace, beauty and comfort at Paradise Pond. Paradise means water - a large half acre pond sits in front of the casita. Acequias (traditional irrigation ditches) flow down the East and West sides of the property by water rights agreements going back to the 1690's. The Pond overflow creates a charming stream that snakes back and feeds a wetlands area before pouring into the Santa Cruz River - all on my 8 acre lot. All this water creates large cottonwood forests and lovely garden areas. Miles of hiking are also minutes away on BLM land where you can hike, bike or horseback ride through the red rock barrancas for miles. All the attractions of Northern New Mexico are within day trip distance - Santa Fe, Taos, Abiquiu, Ojos Caliente, Indian reservations, Nambe, too many to mention them all. The casita is a one bedroom with a king bed, a living room/kitchen combination room with a kiva fireplace and large glass patio doors with the pastoral view of the pond and fields, One bathroom with a tub/shower and a private patio. It is connected to the main house through a sunroom. I will help you plan your trips or give you total privacy. Private entrance, lots of parking. The living room includes a full size futon bed. Sleeps two to three. Chimayo is the home of the Sanctuario most well known for it's Easter pilgrimage still practiced by many locals. Pilgrims walk day and night to come to Chimayo for the Easter holiday. The Sanctuario is open for visitors and is still an active congregation. The traditions of Chimayo are still practiced today including the room of blessed healing dirt. You will also find the best vendors of Chimayo authentic chili there and sample it's green and red goodness. Historians credit Chimayo with having the most intact (still lived in) Spanish Colonial Plaza in New Mexico. Many if not most of the residents of Chimayo are descendants of the Spanish settlers from the 1600's. A museum is open in the summers next to Ortega's Weaving Shop will explain. Many art galleries and weavers are in Chimayo and the region. There is a wonderful local restaurant with beautiful hillside tables called 'El Rancho de Chimayo' that has great classic northern New Mexico meals. Paradise Pond is perfect for artists, writers, photographers and others who want a peaceful and inspiring natural place to work. For the adventurous it's also centrally located for day trips: 35 minutes to Santa Fe, 60 minutes to the Santa Fe Ski Basin, 1:15 minutes to Taos, 45 minutes to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs, 45 minutes to Abiquiu (and Ghost Ranch) or Bandelier National Park. There are hidden treasures throughout the region and I has a lot of knowledge of some off the beaten path spots to visit. I can help you plan your trips if you need local advice. Many events are also worthwhile such as the Native American Ceremonial Dances, Santa Fe's numerous Markets, the Christmas Eve Canyon Road Walk and many more. So stay and relax or go exploring or both. Either way you will enjoy your stay in beautiful Northern New Mexico. There is a television with Netflix. I have upgraded my internet to Starlink. It is wonderful compared to my previous DSL internet.

I gave this a 4 rating only because we were sitting under the heat dome, and simply trusting in adobe to keep us cool was not enough. IT was great fun visiting with Tom and his neighbors, watching the beavers build the damn, listening to frogs, we even saw a blue heron - huming birds and tons of other birds - Beautiful spot. Ant ehe heat some is not the host's fault. I was just too hot by the end of our time there which is just what it is these days. For my own sake, in future I will make sure wherever I go there is air conditioning. The hot weather was unexpected and unprecedented,

The casita was bigger than expected & more secluded than expected. The one bedroom was king sized & roomy, more than just a bed. The bathroom was huge. The living room was set up so you could relax and look out over the pond. It was great seeing the beaver swim around at dusk, the frogs croaking & lots of birds- several hummingbirds flitted around. Nicely secluded so you didn't have traffic noise. No need for AC, the casita stayed nice & comfortable. Tom provided a helpful list of restaurants & the breezeway is filled with maps & information for lots of activities & places to see. We had a wonderful time.

This was my second stay at Paradise Pond, and was even more enjoyable than the first. It's in a quiet setting with plenty of woodland to explore and lots of bird and wildlife activity on the pond, but just a quick hop to Santa Fe, and with easy access to Taos and Abiquiu/Ghost Ranch. The casita is spacious, well-equipped, and spotlessly clean. Tom is the perfect host, very friendly and always happy to make travel suggestions. There's also a nice library of maps, brochures, and books on the area that he shares with the guests. The best!

We would like to return to this spot when the weather is a bit warmer and all the vegetation around the pond is greener. We were there in March. We enjoyed the wildlife and the privacy.
