Crossing the bridge into the town of White Stone you arrive at this magnificent estate on the Rappahannock River. 'Pop Castle' is a property entrenched in civil war history. It is on the National Registry of Historic Homes and a registered Virginia Historic Landmark.
This 1855 house, flanked by two majestic Oak trees overlooking the two-mile wide Rappahannock River, offers expansive lawns, towering trees, and a long sandy beach. Sit out on the screened porch and watch the osprey and the resident eagle go after their daily catch while the dolphins swim by. Relax in the hammock on the sandy shores of the river or go swimming, fishing, or crabbing off the 30 foot deck (two crab pots are available). This five bedrooms historic home on twelve exquisite acres with hundred year old magnolias and oaks is fully furnished and equipped with WiFi, cable, bikes, a two person kayak, two paddleboards, a sports court for pickleball and spec tennis, a ping pong table, Peloton bike, and multiple outdoor games like volleyball, badminton and croquet sets.
With the wood paneled living room with fireplace, comfortable TV room with fireplace, formal dining room with fireplace, sunroom with a large bay window overlooking the river, a large and bright kitchen with adjoining windowed garden/laundry room, and a spectacular 50 foot long porch opening directly to the wide treed lawn and the river, your family and friends will have plenty of space to share your valued time together. On the second floor, five bedrooms, three with fireplaces, offer ample sleeping space (although if more is needed, the first floor sunroom and TV room with adjoining full bathrooms can easily be converted into bedrooms using our queen airbeds).

I was surprised to hear all my family thought it was one our best vacations and were all delighted to hear that I booked it for next year. All were very active throughout the week, and all seemed to enjoy the activities and each other's company.
Our only complaint was that the ice maker was not very productive, and the kitchen door was difficult to lock and unlock. I tried to tighten the lock but did not have the proper tools with me.
We are already looking forward to our stay at Pop Castle next year, and me at 82, I hope I can make it and enjoy my family as I did this year.

We stayed at POP CASTLE for our daughter's wedding. The landscaping was BEAUTIFUL and the house was IMMACULATE! With 6 bedrooms and 7 baths, our family of 12 was very comfortable! The kitchen was 5 star and my husband could not wait to cook dinner there! We relaxed on the back porch with outstanding river views, spent time on the dock, took sunset photos, and shared so many wonderful memories together! I definitely recommend this magical place to anyone looking for a private sanctuary to spend time with family and friends.

This house and grounds are incredible. I am in awe of the amount of time, energy and caring that the owners have put into it. Every detail enhances it.
All of my family, kids, grandkids and great grandkids, loved it. The house is beautiful and well planned for large groups, plus so many options for things to do or play.
We are already planning a return trip.

Pop Castle was magnificent in both setting and residence ! It was perfect having a bathroom for each bedroom with so many different family members. Since it wasn’t real cold, being able to congregate and eat on the enclosed veranda with the heating units was ideal affording such beautiful views.

Our group of 13, ranging in age from 3 months to 93, truly had a wonderful week. This historic house is decorated beautifully and the bedrooms are large and very comfortable. It was nice to have one bedroom on the first floor (used by our 93 year old). We all remarked about how quiet the house was with no one hearing anyone else in the house. The back porch is air conditioned and we used this for many hours each day. The sunsets from the dock were fabulous and we were lucky that there were very few jelly fish so the kids could play in the water. It was also great that the water was not too deep( we are not so lucky with jelly fish at our home in Annapolis). The playhouse outbuilding was terrific for kids and adults and it also is air conditioned with its own bathroom. We played pickle ball, badminton, croquet, many rounds of corn hole, basketball, ping pong and more. The kitchen is remarkably stocked to make it very easy to feed large groups. The site is just so lovely, surrounded by huge oak trees and magnolias. We saw eagles and dolphins and watched stars at night. Staying at Pop Castle was very special and we thank the owners for their generosity in sharing this home. We did find Compass Entertainment in Irvington which was perfect for our grandchildren. We spent a rainy day here and the kids were thrilled. We certainly recommend it. Also, the free ferry at Merry Point was fun and scenic. Truly a lovely week for our family.

We loved having space for four families to meet and play, the kids loved the game room, and everyone loved playing in the water using the provided paddle boards and other toys. The glassed-in deck was perfect for morning coffee and many chats with family. Thank you for a memorable week!

Pop Castle is a hidden gem in the NN. It is a great place for a wedding. We had about 40 people there and everything was as advertised. Plenty of amenities and space. We loved it. The cleaning fee was hefty but Pop Castle was everything we wanted and needed. Walid was a good host and we may come back for a anniversary.

We booked Pop Castle for our wedding and and everything was nice. The house was perfect and the area is so peaceful. We couldn't have chosen a better place . Everything about Pop Castle was amazing. The owners are so sweet and helpful. I highly recommend staying there . You won't be disappointed.

The property is absolutely beautiful with an incredible view of the river, and the home itself is wonderful and full of history. Walid was easy to communicate with and very accommodating. This is an amazing house and we had a great time. We were having a family reunion there, and we had 4 families with many little kids. This house was big enough to hold all 16 of us comfortably. Even the kitchen and dining spaces were big enough to allow us to cook for everyone which is often not the case in other houses we've rented. And we loved the huge screened in porch. We spent tons of time there. The kids loved the game room and the adults loved how quiet the house was when the kids were in the game room. Walid was a great host and we really enjoyed our stay. It was very hot while we were there (in July) but the AC in the house (and game room) worked great.
The yard and private beach are also fantastic. The beach is great, mostly shaded by trees, and a great place to sit in the chairs or hammock. The kids had a great time and spent hours making sandcastles. Unfortunately several of the days we couldn't swim because there were too many jellyfish in the water. But there were lots of other fun things to do including kayaking, paddleboarding and having water fights. One of the days we took the kids to Williamsburg which was a lot of fun. The yard/grounds are huge and we had some epic hide and seek games there and the kids just loved exploring. There are also tons of outdoor games in the game room. The house is well stocked with many activities and even in a week we didn't come close to trying everything.
Overall it is a wonderful house and we had a great time. We really appreciated that the house could hold our whole extended family comfortably with plenty of space for everyone. It made for a wonderful family reunion. Thank you Walid!

We had a group of 16 — 8 adults and 8 kids(ages from 8 to 16)
We all had a great time— the house and grounds are loaded with all the games and activities we needed. We had a family Olympics with pickle ball, basketball and campus golf included—
Kitchen had all the equipment we needed and more!
I would consider renting again!

Exceeded all expectations!
I can't decide what to rate higher--the owners or the actual property. The owners were delightful and very accommodating. I feel like they are friends and all of us want to remain friends with them. They went above and beyond to make sure we felt completely at home in their gorgeous home. The property is absolutely stunning. I cannot say enough positive things about our experience.

This property was perfect for a family gathering. We had several catered meals by the Car Wash Cafe. A memorial celebration of Life at St Marys White Chapel. The elders stayed at Pop Castle and others stayed near by at a Best Western. The house had plenty of room to relax and everyone had a wonderful time.
Beds are comfortable and the house decor is very interesting. The location is a bit over an hour from Richmond Va airport. Thank you for a perfect weekend.

Great vacation, beautiful grounds and views.
We had a very nice 10 day family reunion at Pop Castle and would have stayed longer if it had been available. The grounds were like a park with enormous magnolia, oak, and pine trees, and amazing boxwoods & flowers. Outside and inside the house was a delight. The owners thought of everything to make it a relaxing stay. The view from the back porch between two large oak trees (one with a very long swing) was wonderful. An oak tree out the kitchen side door might be about 18 feet around at the narrowest part of the trunk. The historical house was charmingly decorated and had a wonderful kitchen that was well stocked. We enjoyed fresh seafood, produce, and baked goods from town. The outbuildings were relocated to across the driveway from the boxwoods and provided an atmosphere of the historical period when the kitchens, workshops, and utility buildings were not in the main house. The largest one now includes ping pong, other games, and another tv. One was the original tiny school house. Pop Castle was like having our own private resort to celebrate being together with our family. We enjoyed the stay very much and would like to visit again.

the perfect restorative retreat
It's immediately apparent that Pop Castle is a joyous place. The decor is both sophisticated and whimsical, an eclectic collection of art and found treasures from around the world tastefully displayed both interesting and fun, what more could you ask for? The home is fully equipped, everything in its place, functional and functioning. The grounds are expansive and gorgeous with multiple and diverse sitting and lounging areas. Two of our favorite spots were the fire pit at sunset and the longest traditional rope swing hanging from a mammoth red oak on the back lawn that slopes to the river. I could go on and on, but simply put... we loved it and hope to return.

Our magical place
We got married at Pop Castle this weekend. The house was absolutely perfect for entertaining and the grounds are just gorgeous. The house is fully stocked with any kitchen item you could imagine. The rooms are spacious are gorgeous.
The owner and his wife are absolutely wonderful and we can not wait to return.
