Escape to the serenity of the Blue Ridge Mountains and experience the magic of Virginia country living at our entirely renovated, historic 2 bedroom farm house. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway, a special place to celebrate, or a week-end retreat, you've come to just the right place!
Take advantage of all that nature has to offer by exploring our 130 acres of mountain forests, pastures, gardens, ponds, and historic structures. Watch the fireflies light up the starlit sky as you relax on the porch or on the magnificent covered dock. Hike our mountain trails. Swim, canoe, or fish in our fully stocked, 3 acre pond. Or roast marshmallows around the campfire and listen to nature's brilliant nighttime chorus!
Experience the amazing beauty of the surrounding countryside by visiting Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive, and 'Old Rag' Mountain only minutes away. Bike some of the most scenic country roads in the Mid-Atlantic region, visit award winning wineries, marvel at the Blue Ridge by horseback, and take home treasures from the many local art galleries and antique stores. If that isn't enough, expand your abilities with yoga lessons, art classes, and drumming circles. And, if relaxation is your primary goal, we will help you to arrange a massage, beauty treatment, or catering on the premises!
Enjoy the wide range of local dining options, from country bakeries, quaint diners, and gourmet eateries featuring local produce and meat, to world class dining at the Inn at Little Washington only 10 minutes away. If you'd rather prepare your own meals, you can do it in your modern, fully equipped kitchen featuring granite countertops and new cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. Dining options on the farm range from picnics in the woods to romantic, candle lit meals on the dock or screened porch with views of the pond and the Blue Ridge.
In addition to a modern kitchen, our 1860's farmhouse features high speed Internet and new baths with whirlpool tub, pedestal sink, washer/dryer, and tiled floors and shower. Stone fireplaces and a wood stove add ambiance and warm you in winter, and ceiling fans in every room make the central air conditioning necessary only in the hottest days of summer. Lovely 19th Century wood floors grace the house throughout and historic, winding wood staircases lead to cozy but roomy bedrooms upstairs. Please note: The historic staircases uneven, narrow, steep, and open at top and bottom. They must be navigated with care and are unsuitable for small children and individuals with limited mobility or who need bedroom and bath all on one level.
The Farmhouse has 2 full suites, each with large eat-in kitchen, living area, screened porch, one large bedroom, and bath. The Pond View suite has a queen and twin bed, whirlpool tub and shower, and fireplaces up and downstairs, whereas the Mountain View side has a queen and double bed, large tiled shower, and wood stove downstairs.
The Farmhouse is perfect for a family and for sharing with friends. An adjoining door between the two living areas may be left open or closed for privacy. If you need additional space, see our Barn Loft #457779 and Historic Poorhouse #1674570.
Our 2 bedroom Barn Loft (VRBO #457779) has spectacular views of the Blue Ridge from every room. Entirely modern with glass front wood stove, slate and wood flooring, soapstone counters, and stainless appliances, this is a most special addition to our farm about an eighth of a mile from the farmhouse. The entirely renovated, Historic Poorhouse features a vaulted ceiling great room with kitchenette, stone fireplaces, a large bedroom on the first floor and a loft bedroom up steep stairs, plus one bath. While private, it is a short minute walk from the farmhouse.
Finally, if you would like to fully experience rural life, you are welcome to help us with the many projects that farm living offers, from gardening and caring for the animals to projects around our restored 1860s log barn. We will make every effort to customize your stay so that your experience is memorable! Friendly, well mannered pets that will not harm our farm animals are welcome. We are a non-smoking property.
Visit Cardinal Springs Farm on Facebook for additional photos. For additional information and special occasion recommendations (Wine Tasting, Birthday/Anniversary, Girls' Week-end, Yoga, and more) call or email.

We really enjoyed our stay at Cardinal Springs Farm. The farmhouse is charming and immaculate, and Andrea is a warm and welcoming host. We appreciated the fresh eggs and ripe blackberries. Just wish we'd had time for a swim in the spring-fed pond! Would love to return in the fall.

Steven and Andrea made our stay the Farmhouse fantastic. From fresh cut flowers to letting us borrow some paddle boards for the lake, the stay was well worth the money. The perfect location to easily get to hiking, breweries, and good restaurants. My husband and I go to Sperryville often, so we hope to be back. If you are unfamiliar with the area, Steven and Andrea go out of their way to give you great information about where to explore.
Be ready for spotty cellphone service and slower internet speeds. This location is perfect for an unplugged weekend with games, books, and exploring.

Kids really enjoyed time in the pond (canoeing, paddle boarding and fishing) this weekend. Baby loved time with the cats and baby goats/ducks. Fire pit with smores also a huge hit. Beautiful place and great hosts!

So many fun things to do with kids on the beautiful property - feeding animals, holding baby chicks, fishing, canoeing, hiking, fire pit/yard games. Kids are already asking to go back . Would highly recommend.

The farm was a wonderful spot for our family. The area is exceptionally beautiful, especially the farm, with its views of the Blue Ridge mountains, and its own rolling hills, bluebirds, farm animals, frogs, foxes etc. The animals were endlessly entertaining for my kids, and Andrea was very kind and welcoming, introducing us to the goats, chickens, mules, etc. The local sights were fun and interesting for us, including the Luray Caverns, and the local corner store and restaurants were great.
The house is nice and functional, but there were some harmless bugs in the house that my kids were worried about. This is typical for a country house, but I thought I should mention it.

We hiked during the day, and then relaxed by the fire pit at night. We also enjoyed feeding the horses and goats apples from the nearby farm stand.

This restored farmhouse is in remarkable shape for its age. We enjoyed the extended weekend escape. Easy access to Skyline Drive for a day hike, then Sperryville / Washington for some culinary indulgence. The property is plenty big enough for a 2-hour hike / walk about and exploring.

Mountain Oasis
My family and I had an amazing vacation at this property. We had a blast feeding the animals, swimming in the lake, and watching the stars at our evening campfires. We felt like we had the whole property to ourselves yet the location was so close to so many great activities. The property managers were awesome and willing to help us with anything. We can not wait to come back to this property! Thank you for an amazing experience!

Amazing Time Away
This was our second time visiting the property. Our youngest son (11) loved it so much so he chose to come back this year with four of his friends. They had a blast fishing, swimming and enjoying the beautiful space. Thank you for your hospitality.

Cardinal Spring Farm Stay
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Farmhouse. Andrea and Steve were the best hosts. We loved the cozy house to play games and eat. The outdoor fire pit was stocked and easy to light. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and especially getting to know the rhythm of life on the farm.

Family Getaway
The Cardinal Springs Farmhouse was the perfect retreat for our daughter, her husband, two young children, my husband and me. With 130 acres of land, we explored gardens, ponds, barns, and animal sheds. Our two-year-old really enjoyed feeding the goats, collecting eggs, petting Cleo the cat, spotting the horses, and checking in on the newborn duckling. The house (back a long and twisting unsaved road) provided all the comfort we needed or wanted, with two modern kitchens, inviting living rooms ( one with a piano), spacious dining tables, comfortable beds (up the steep stairs), and a lovely front porch where we spent much time each day. Andrea and Steve, along with their farmhand, were welcoming and most helpful. We all hope we can return to this idyllic spot in the future.

As amazing as it seems.
We are so grateful for our time at cardinal springs in the farmhouse. Four adults, a 5 year old, and two crazy dogs. The grounds are beautiful and bucolic, the animals are as friendly as they seem in cartoons, and Steve and Andrea were wonderful. Perfect location to old rag and wineries, but we could totally have stayed for 4 days at the farm and enjoyed it just as much.
We will be headed back soon.

Idyllic property, ideal location, wonderful owners
We had a wonderful time at Cardinal Springs. The property is peaceful and impeccably maintained. We loved taking early morning walks and watching sunsets from high on the hill. The kids enjoyed feeding the goats, collecting eggs, and picking beans, tomatoes and boysenberries. They also swam and canoed in the pond. Our 9 year old caught her first fish! Andrea and Steve were incredibly hospitable and went out of their way to make us comfortable, even dropping off bags of fresh produce, filling the shed with firewood and setting up tables so that we could eat outside. We had a memorable dinner under the stars and made s’mores around the firepit. The farm is also in an ideal location, 5 minutes from the cute town of Sperryville and 15-20 minutes from Shenandoah. Truly a great place for a family to get away from it all!

We spent a week at Cardinal Springs, and it could not have been more perfect! Andrea and Steve are amazing hosts, who don't overlook any detail. The property is exquisite, the lodging very comfortable, the location ideal, and the staff who help on the farm are helpful and friendly. We highly recommend!

Wonderful
4 adults, 4 children and 2 Labrador retrievers all had a blast at the farmhouse! We were looking for a house near Shenandoah so we could spend time hiking and this listing had everything we wanted and more. The kids (6, 7, 9, and 9) absolutely loved the animals at the farm and swimming in the pond after a morning hiking. The property is beautiful and the house was clean and had everything we needed. The internet and cell service is very spotty but it was just what we needed to unplug and enjoy a few days away with our family and friends. Thanks for a wonderful vacation and being great hosts!

Unique Farm Getaway!
We were a total of 3 families with adults, seniors, and children, and we all had a wonderful time!
Two of our families stayed at this property, the historic farmhouse. The layout of the house was great... each side of the house has an entrance, living room, kitchen, bathroom, exit to the garden, a door that you can close in between both sides for privacy, and a bedroom each upstairs (one with two Queen beds and one with a Queen and a Twin).
The experience on the farm was something else, and the owners Andrea and Steve introduced us to all we could enjoy. We loved feeding and petting the animals, snipping some herbs from their garden to enjoy, using fresh eggs from the chickens every morning, enjoying an outdoor fire, and having some relaxing family moments in the cozy indoors. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Always wonderful!!
We have been coming to Cardinal Springs for years, and it has always been an amazing experience, in every way. Andrea and Steve could not be more thoughtful and attentive as hosts, and they treat us like family friends. We typically stay at the farmhouse and it is truly comfortable and beautiful. Can't wait to return!

Weekend in the country
We had a blast getting out of town for the weekend. I would have preferred that the kitchen would have been better stocked with basics and better cooking gear, but apart from that we enjoyed the stay.

Lovely, even in an ice storm
Very quiet, lovely space, surrounded by 2- and 4-legged friends of all varieties. We had hoped to spend a long weekend hiking but the weather did not cooperate, so instead we enjoyed a vicious multi-day tournament of Scrabble in front of the wood stove. It was a cozy relaxing stay.

Great Farm Getaway
Really enjoyed our visit to Cardinal Springs Farm. Great escape from DC for a long weekend. Beautiful setting. Lots of animals walking about making it interesting. We stayed in the main farmhouse and found it well appointed and well maintained. It is clear that the property owners take pride in their farm and delivering a great experience to guests. Sperryville is also 6 minutes away and a charming little village with high end grocery store, great pizza shop, and good brewery / beer garden. Plenty of wineries around and great countryside to explore.

Short Winter Break in Sperryville
The farmhouse was perfect for a short, quiet, Covid-cautious break from the city over the holidays with our adult children. The kitchen and dining space worked beautifully for family dinners and we all enjoyed sitting by the large stone fireplace after cold days hiking in nearby Shenandoah National Park. Our hosts were gracious without being intrusive and their property is stunning, with amazing views of Old Rag.

Tranquil, peaceful and beautiful!
We spent about a week over Christmas at Cardinal Springs Farm. We stayed at the old farmhouse. It was incredibly clean and cozy!
The scenery all around was so peaceful. We enjoyed taking daily walks on the property and just enjoying the quiet. It was an excellent place to get away from people and feel completely safe.
We had great fun with the animals, feeding the various chickens, ducks, goats, mules and horse. We even sampled some fresh duck and chicken eggs!
We wanted to have a laid back and relaxing week, this place delivered that and more! The house was well equipped with everything we needed. I can picture how beautiful it would also be to visit in the summer time with everything in bloom.
I would definitely enjoy returning here. The owners were very helpful and prompt with all questions.

Peaceful and Relaxing
This is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the DC Metro area. Sitting on the front porch of the Farmhouse was pure heaven: no noise other than that of the farm animals and nature. Great for hiking, bird watching, etc. Steve and Andrea have a wonderful collection of friendly animals roaming about.

A peaceful sanctuary in the mountains
What a unique place to stay! Andrea and Steve have done an amazing job creating a peaceful and relaxing place to disconnect and unwind. If you want to slow down, enjoy the beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains, and hear nothing but the beautiful sounds of the birds and animals this is your place! From the gorgeous gardens, peaceful pond, beautifully maintained home, friendly farm animals and pets, and views that will make your jaw drop, Cardinal Springs is a place like no other. It's crystal clear that Andrea and Steve love to share their little slice of heaven with their guests and we can't wait to go back!

A relaxing stay on a beautiful farm
All the glowing reviews are on point. Steve and Andrea clearly care about their guests and the farm. We had a wonderful week here with our two little ones (5, ~2) and will definitely return in the future.
Farmhouse was clean and well maintained given the age. The grounds were immaculate with a beautiful view from every corner. Animal interactions were everything we could have hoped for. Boating on the large pond was a huge hit for our 5 year old. Fire pits were well stocked and we used them every night!
Easy to have privacy and maintain distancing even if other houses are rented out. Convenient drive to Luray, Skyline, and other surrounding activities.

Lovely Property and Owners
So glad that Andrea and Steve, the owners, have created this beautiful property and opened it up to share with guests. Our kids loved visiting with all of the animals (esp the goats and baby ducklings!) and canoeing/paddleboarding on the pond. The house was cozy and the gardens were fun to explore and observe with all the butterflies. Andrea and Steve were so friendly and filled with interesting stories and a wealth of knowledge. If you're looking for nature and the outdoors, Cardinal Springs Farm is the perfect choice!

Still one of our favorites
This was our family’s second visit to Cardinal Springs and I dont know why we waited four years to return. Still one of our favorite getaway spots. Private, lots of space to roam, great hikes nearby and the swimming pond for the end of the day refresher. We love it here and will come visit Steve and Andrea again as soon as we can!
