Exceptional Experience
This property has everything you could ask for. It was exceptionally well equipped for the pool, for the beach and for the house. Everything was exactly as described.
It’s location on the west end of Sanibel is perfect. I have traveled to Sanibel Island for over 30 years. This property was by far the best I have rented.
5.0
Let me start by saying our family of four really enjoyed our stay on Sanibel island in December 2020.
The house was clean and owners very responsive to our questions. Beds were excellent, decor is pleasant. Kitchen is sufficient for basic cooking.
The top deck was a nice place to spend time. I actually worked most of the time outside for most of the month. The vegetation in the yard is very lush and well maintained. Gives you a very nice sense of privacy. You can even hear the waves when the pool filter motor turns off at night.
The four of us were working and schooling from home. The internet connection was very solid.
The 10 minute walk to the beach through the very well maintained neighborhood was very pleasant. Neighbors were welcoming and made us feel like home.
We saw a lot of wildlife in the Ding Darling park and from the beach. Including all sorts of birds, alligators and dolphins. Kayaking in Ding Darling was super fun. You won’t regret bringing your own kayak if you’re a little adventurous and really like quiet time in nature. The provided bicycles are good to to the the beach and short trips. If you like to go for longer bike rides, consider bringing your own or rent at one of the many shops on the island.
In the context of Covid, the island felt very safe. People wore masks in public in indoor areas and there is a lot of room to distance all along the 14+ mile beach. Many restaurants have outdoor seating but also offered indoor seating if you are comfortable with that.
The beach itself has a lot of shells to collect. This is a big thing in Sanibel! The down side of all those shells is that there isn’t as much nice sand to walk on compared to other Florida beaches. We also had some days of red tide that prevented us from going in the water and on the worse days, the air was too harsh to be on the beach.
Lots of room to play outside at the beach, on bike paths and on the water. Less of a party atmosphere than the mainland. It was a great place to relax and feel safe in these challenging times.

An Island Paradise Within an Island Paradise
We stayed for a month. I cannot say enough about how wonderful this place is! We had everything we needed to enjoy our time here from bicycles to beach chairs. And staying home was so fun too because the home is so beautiful with high ceilings and nature decor. And the POOL! This pool is amazing! Its the perfect temperature and the turtle decor in the bottom is so cute and it is completely surrounded by palm trees, foliage and a screen so you can look up at the beautiful blue sky while swimming but also enjoy complete privacy! We felt like we were on our own little island within an island it was so quiet and private! Its super close to the beach AND the Ding Darling Refuge. I would take a short bike to one or the other every day. We also enjoyed the furnished kitchen, spacious bedrooms, Cable TV, and little start-up items (like soap, paper towels, etc…) they left for us to get started with. The owners were helpful with great communication every time we messaged them and Royal Shell was very organized about giving us our check-in and check-out information promptly. This is a hidden treasure!

Month in paradise
This home was beautiful and well equipped with anything we could possibly want. The pool area and yard were amazing! Great location with short walk or bike ride to the beach and the beach in this area is not as crowded as others. Our month went by too quickly and we look forward to another stay soon!

Another wonderful month at the coconut hideaway. Its our second visit and hope to be back for a third. I love this house. Have looked at many rentals and this one always comes out on top! It's a great location for whatever you choose to do on the island. I have biked to Captiva and the lighthouse. I love the quiet neighborhood. The private beach is wonderful and the shelling is great. Thank you so much Melinda and Stan for sharing your home.

Beautiful place to stay in Sanibel Island
We have absolutely loved staying in your beautiful home for the last 2 months, the name says it all, coconut hideaway! It truly is.
We have enjoyed having our family and friends join us from time to time and they all look forward to returning each year.
The home is well cared for and with the pool and beach it is ideal for outdoor activity.
I recommend anyone coming to visit Sanibel Island to give this home some consideration for their stay.
We will be back next year.

My family spent Christmas with my parents at The Sanibel Vacation Hideaway Home and had a wonderful time. There was lots of space and sleeping options. Living room and dining room was spacious and cozy. The outdoor furniture on the deck and patio was nice and relaxing. Each morning we enjoyed sitting on the deck drinking coffee, overlooking the pool and listening to the birds in the surrounding trees. The neighborhood is nice and quiet. Our daily routine was heading to the beach and then back home to swim all afternoon in the nice big pool. The storage room was filled with pool and beach toys for my kids to enjoy. We even enjoyed riding the bikes around the island. We had a lovely visit and I can’t wait to come back next year!

Sanibel Vacation Hideaway is my idea of Paradise
We are repeat visitors to this lovely vacation house. We instantly feel at home as soon as we step through the door. The house decor is 'islandy'. I especially like the art on the wall (the owner is an accomplished artist). The house is bright and clean, the vaulted ceiling in the living area and lights are charming. Kitchen is well appointed and has everything we needed to keep us happy.
The community is quiet and private and a 5 minute walk to the beautiful beach. Love walking here in the mornings and also doing some shell gathering.
The lanai is fabulous - great for morning coffee, breakfast, dinner and cocktails. The grill is where most of the dinners are cooked. We love sitting out here at sunset, listening to the wildlife. The owners have hung 2 bird houses for nesting birds with babies or those just stopping overnight. We were treated to baby owls - so precious, and also baby grackles in the palm tree near the lanai. Probably the most surprising was watching the woodpecker 'check in ' to the bird house every night at 8:20 and 'check out' at 6:20 in the morning. You have to be watching - it's quick. Being surrounded by nature is so amazing. Who knows what you’ll see. You can learn so much from it.
We loved the pool. Spent time in in every day and some nights too - lighting is lovely. Very relaxing - there are chaise lounges and a bar table to hang out, eat, drink and be merry!
Bikes are provided - there are miles and miles of biking trails to roam.
I recommend visiting Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. You can drive or bike through and observe numerous species of birds. It's very beautiful.
2 restaurants we visited for the first time:
The Island Cow - fabulous breakfast at a very unique place with great service
The Green Flash in Captiva - first time we were here. Good food and a gorgeous view of the water.
What you really need to know: Sanibel is an amazing place, the house is the perfect home away from home, and enjoy the wildlife no matter where you find it. Get out and bike around the island. It's a perfect vacation.

Very satisfied with and a 5 Star rating!!
Our month at this home at hideaway ct in Sanibel this year was the most enjoyable and relaxing as any place we have stayed. The home is beautifully furnished and kept well looked after.
The pool is a huge bonus for us and our family who visit. We find that we can’t wait to come back every year to stay here and just relax in the surroundings and the peace and quiet of the neighborhood .
A 5 min. Walk to the beach is ideal and the use of the bikes is much appreciated.
We treat this home as if it was our own . We recommend this particular home to anyone that wants to enjoy a relaxing vacation time with themselves or family and friends.
We will continue to come back and stay here.

Great location for a stay on Sanibel
After surviving hurricane Irma and a week's delay in getting there we had a great stay at the this property. Location is fantastic unbelievably quiet and secluded and only min's to the very private and beautiful beach by bike.
The property provides everything you require for your stay, private beach access and only a short drive to all the amenities you are likely to require, shops, supermarket and great restaurants.
My only negative comments which didn't impact our stay, are that the furniture and décor are looking a little tired and could do with a makeover to make this a truly first class property. This is just an observation based on other properties I have stayed in and didn't impact our stay in any way.
The owners were very helpful and responsive when contacted.
Sanibel is certainly a wonderful island and this property provides an ideal location to explore it's many charms.

We had an incredible month in the tropical jungle paradise at Coconut Hideaway!
We just love this home! It's decor is bright and beachy! We love the tropical plants and orchids on the deck and hanging off the palm trees! We were visited by a large turtle and a bobcat that were outside the screened house area. It just added to our stay.

Sanibel Hideaway Dream Vacation Home
I love this property. It's perfect for my husband, daughter and I. A lot of attention is paid to detail in the furnishing and decorating of the home. The living area inside is a lovely beach feeling living - dining - kitchen that runs the length of the house. The high ceilings are lovely. The outside living space - the lanai - overlooks the pool. It's where we dined most evenings.
We made use of the outdoor grill for a lot of our meals. The kitchen was well appointed in small conveniences such as a Keurig and drip coffee maker.
The lanai and pool are caged and the whole area is surrounded by majestic palms and foliage. Hideaway is the perfect word to describe the home. It has a private aura that I love coming from a very busy place. I walked most mornings on the beach which is a 5 minute walk from the house. Sunsets are spectacular on the beach. Bikes are available at the house. There are numerous paths on which to enjoy them.
I recommend The Lazy Flamingo for dining - the raw oysters were the best I had on the island. I also enjoyed Doc Fords.
Looking forward to returning next year.

A Very Pleasant Stay
A Coconut Hideaway has much to recommend it. The interior is comfortable and airy. Private too, thanks to the foliage surrounding the house. My daughter and I spent the hot April afternoons in the nicely-cooled living room, relaxing with books, a jigsaw puzzle or our laptops. We also enjoyed the available bikes which were in good shape and comfy. We loved the Sea Oats neighborhood which is quiet, unpretentious, and super friendly. It is a mere ten-minute walk to the beach from the house. It's a good location because the beaches on the west end are less developed and there is some excellent shelling.

Nebraska couple
My wife and I recently enjoyed a fantastic month at cocoanut hideaway as it is called in the Sea Oats addition. The house is a paradise oasis and we treated it as if It was our own.
The screen in pool, the beautiful Lanai, the short walk to the beach, the tropical palm trees and other foliage , makes it a place you never have to leave to enjoy yourself. Everything is kept up in excellent condition, it shows the owners take pride in offering their home to others.
We had our family down for a week and they all had a beautiful time. The bikes were a big hit!
We will be back next year and would love to stay 2 months.

Our Home from Home in Paradise
When planning our return to Sanibel Island and considering where to stay it was a unanimous family decision to return to the Coconut Hideaway. The West Gulf Drive location in our opinion is the best on the island. It is an easy walk to the beach, a short drive or 20 minute cycle along Rabbit Road to Doc Ford’s (until it relocates!), and not far from Jerry’s or Bailey’s for the best fresh steak, fish and shrimp to cook yourself on the gas BBQ. This central location is perfect for shopping and restaurants along Periwinkle Way and in the other direction Captiva is only 30 minutes away by car at 30 MPH! The Mucky Duck and Bowman’s Beach is a must visit for sun set lovers, but on a clear evening the sunset from the local Beach Access #1 is just as beautiful.
The Coconut Hideaway is a home from home – with everything you need for a very comfortable stay on this paradise island. For the social media addicts and those who want to keep in touch with their email and video web streams the free Internet access is more than adequate.
What more can I say that I haven’t said before, except …

Sanibel paradise!
This June we spent our third vacation at the coconut hideaway. We love the location of this property as it is located very near a quiet stretch of beach. The home comes equipped with umbrella, wagons and chairs, which were perfect. The pool is absolutely perfect and our two little ones loved washing off the sand in the outdoor shower then jumping in the pool. The island eating was great as always although I was treated very poorly at the Blue Giraffe(maybe a complete misunderstanding, but will not return). The clam shack, pink flamingo, doc fords, George & Wendy's and traditions were all fantastic and as expected. My family has been to many beaches and this home on this island is always where we return for the ultimate peaceful rejuvenating vacation. Owners Mel and Stan are also fantastic!

I always enjoy the time I spend in this beautiful home on Sanibel Island. The location is excellent, affording easy access to the beach and wildlife conservation area. The home is surrounded by beautiful palm trees and vegetation. Inside it was well maintained, comfortable and airy. I loved spending time on the balcony, especially in the morning enjoying my coffee. The private , caged pool was wonderful. I look forward to returning next year.
