About this house rental
RELAXING ON THE DECK (or living/dining area) of our guesthouse with the STUNNING VIEWS of the Animas Valley and surrounding mountains, you'll know you've picked the right home for your Durango vacation. This home is located within a 6 minute drive of the historical downtown area. If you enjoy walking or biking, the Animas River path runs along the river for close to 9 miles one way and begins just down the road a mile. The home sits within walking distance to a great sports club and the Durango Recreation Center is a 3 minute drive. Also within walking distance is two bakeries, a Sushi restaurant, a Mexican cafe-type place and a dominoes pizza. One of our 4 grocery stores in town is down the road one mile with plenty of restaurants between the store on the way to historic downtown Durango.
This home's main floor has an open living area that includes living area, dining area
and kitchen with a deck and all overlooks our beautiful Animas River Valley and its surrounding mountains. There is a full bath and laundry room also on this floor. The home is nicely furnished with your comfort in mind and all the conveniences of home. The kitchen has all the appliances and utensils for your culinary needs. On the ground level there is a king bed in the master and we've' added two twins to what was suppose to be an office when it was built. There is a full bath between these two rooms. There is a garage and a carport attached to this home.
Purgatory Ski area is a 25 mile beautiful drive . Chapman Hill is a small in-town ski area just 3 mins away . There is cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling and sleigh rides available close by. We normally have great skiing conditions and sunny weather without long lines of some of the more famous ski areas. Purgatory is fun in the winter for snow activities but summer brings as much fun with scenic rides on the ski lifts, slide down the mountain, a roller coaster ride, zip lining, and other fun actives that the kiddos always love.
Known for our 300 days of blue sky, the weather in the area is perfect not only for winter sports, but in the spring, summer and fall for hiking, biking, rock climbing, golf, horseback riding, river rafting and riding the historical Durango Silverton narrow gauge train. Fly fishing is great in the Animas River that runs through the town and valley, but there is also fishing in many lakes and other rivers close by. There are excellent restaurants and great shopping with wonderful art galleries in the city.
Just 45 minutes away, you can be at the entrance to Mesa Verde, the largest Indian Cliff Dwellings found so far in the world I believe. Listed by the United Nations as a world cultural center, this is a site people from around the world come to see. In the summer, Mesa Verde guides will take guests on a walking tour into some of the ruins (must have a guide so will need a reservation) but there is a loop drive that is well marked for people to see the ruins from the top without walking a lot which most can also be seen from a wheelchair. No reservations so far for this is required but always check before going. Our downtown Visitor center can answer many questions and may have more accurate information for all activities in and around our spectacular area.
People also come from all over the world to ride the Durango/Silverton Narrow gauge train. This train leaves the downtown train station and takes its' passengers through the Animas Valley to Cascade Canyon and then on to Silverton, the old mining town. Jeep tours can be taken from there or Durango, by the way if planned ahead.
Many who visit our area like to drive 'the loop' (not so much in the winter) where the highway goes over several mountain passes, including what is called the million dollar highway, to Silverton, Quray and Telluride.
We'll be happy to share info of different hikes and biking trails you might wish to take if you are here in spring, summer and fall.
Check out our 5 star reviews. We know from experience and our past guests that you will most likely want to stay longer than you plan. Seems there is never enough time to do all there is do here in the summer for sure. We have guests who book every summer and some repeat customers stay for as long as a month. After September, we have excellent rates if guests want to book for the entire winter or
for a few months after New Years. We might consider a well-behaved and trained small dog for month to month. Because too many guests are allergic to cats we don't accept cats.
Please note cancellation policy: We've only had a couple of cancellations because of family emergencies. We've been able to rebook each time so we returned their money. There is no guarantee though w/out insurance. We are only one property so if someone cancels close to their arrival time, we might not be able to fill the space since most people plan their vacations to Durango pretty far in advance.
We'll look forward to hearing from you!

My entire family rated this our best vacation ever. Carol and Larry the owners of the VRBO were amazing. Super nice. the house was clean, comfortable, just perfect. We had a family size of 5 and there was more than enough room. Beds were super comfortable. It felt like home. Carol is one of the nicest ladies I have ever met. I hope we get to visit Durango every year at least once or twice. Our entire family would definitely recommend this VRBO and Colorado to anyone. Thank you Carol and Larry for an amazing stay. We appreciate all the eating and adventure recommendations and we loved your home. Also the views from this home were amazing. The location is two story and the second floor has a balcony/deck that had a view of the mountains, just glorious.

Everything was clean and exactly as advertised. The balcony and views are amazing. It is located in a quiet neighborhood, but just a short drive into town. The host is very nice and responsive. We would love to stay here again in the future!

Lovely home and neighborhood. Host very friendly and helpful with local activities in and around town. View from deck very peaceful and good place to start the day. Bedrooms are connected so great for families with children. We enjoyed watching the deer and new fawn in the yard.

We stayed a week at Carol and Larry's vacation rental and had a very comfortable stay. Although, there was a road construction going on, the noise didn't bother us since we were out most of the time. Easy access to downtown and places to visit in Durango. I highly recommend their home for your next vacation. We will definitely stay here again in the future.

The house and location were great. It was private without being too far from town. Carol was wonderful communicating with us regarding check-in and letting us know about the route changes with road construction. There were no big issues, but I did contact her with a concern, and she responded quickly.

The homeowner Carol was wonderful & always helpful! The house was perfect for our family. We will definitely be back next year!

Enjoyed our stay. Kitchen was well equipped. Beautiful porch view of the mountains. Bedroom was spacious. Wished they had cable channels but that was minor b/c Durango was a fun place to see and experience.

This was the perfect place for our girls trip! Very spacious & super clean. Four women each had their own bed. Twin beds were not quite as comfy as the king & queen, but okay. Full bathroom on each floor was very helpful. Kitchen had everything we needed. Views from balcony were fabulous! Excellent communication with property owner who lives next door, especially with info about activities in the area. Location was convenient. Owner did request that we remove shoes inside. We wished we had brought slippers to wear in the house. Overall it was a lovely home & we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We all would love to return for another Durango vacation!

We really liked the house. We were disappointed there were two washcloths for 4 people for a week. Thankfully the owners responded and had some brought to us. The upstairs toilet would not flush so we spent time trying to fix it for several days. We are not plumbers so we kept working at it until it worked. When we arrived we could not get into the home since we didn't know where the key was to be found. We did notify them that we would be there at 4 pm. We luckily found it under the mat at the front door. The biggest thing is that the property was very clean and offered beautiful views. The owners were very nice, just not available for issues, since they were out of town.

We had a perfect stay for the IHBC over Memorial Day Weekend in Durango. The check-in process was smooth and the house has all the amenities of home and then some! Where have you ever stayed that had grapefruit spoons! Carol and Larry are excellent hosts and the home is comfortable for sleeping, dining, grilling on the deck, and sharing time in the living room or around the TV. We enjoyed every minute and didn't even use half of the amenities provided. The most grand feature has to be the beautiful view of snow-capped mountains and verdant valley and lake below. It is quiet and peaceful at night with stars above and on our last morning we awoke to find two mule deer on Carol and Larry's side yard laying down resting for an hour and rolling over and scratching their backs in the grass. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

This trip was incredible. Although we spent most of our time skiing Purgatory, it was relaxing and comforting to know that we would come back to a house that provided incredible views while we recouped from the full day of skiing. The owners were great in providing information regarding Durango and provided fun ideas on local activities knowing we had my sons with us.
Highly recommend!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was our first time in Durango, and Carol provided a number of great recommendations. The house was located in close proximity to golfing, hiking, and the downtown restaurants. We loved the deck - perfect place for morning coffee, afternoon snacks, or an after dinner drink. Carol is a lovely host. We’d stay here again.

The owners are very nice and accommodating. Loved just sitting and looking out over the country side.

Great location and wonderful hosts. Very nice couple who were eager to make our stay pleasant (even offered to make dinner!).
The house layout is a bit unusual, with a bed in the kitchen/dining area, but we were very happy to have a full house to ourselves, with a patio and a nice view, right in Durango.

Third stay in Durango. This place was great. Everything was perfect.

Carol and Larry’s guesthouse is spacious, comfortable and well appointed. The view is beautiful and the surroundings peaceful. We have rented from them twice and will go back again if they will have us. You will not be disappointed.

Good location on north end of Durango. Very clean.

...but not the best for us.
The online listing does not show that there is a queen bed on the upper floor (behind the dining table), not in its own bedroom, but part of the great room/kitchen. The lower level floor has two bedrooms and one bath, but in order to get to the second bedroom you have to go through the first bedroom to get to it. We are two couples who travel together on motorcycles. The lower floor with two bedrooms didn't work for us (only one shared bathroom & those in the back bedroom have to go through the front bedroom to come & go up to the kitchen/great room or outside). And for us, the couple downstairs had to wait until the upstairs couple woke up so they could come upstairs to start their coffee in the kitchen, or even relax in the great room.. Lots of stairs, up & down, several times a day. There is a very small bathroom on the upper level, about 1/4 the size of the one shown in the lower level. Also, for those of you on motorcycles, there is a long, hilly gravel driveway up to the house.
We LOVED the covered deck though and spent a good amount of time there when we were at the house. The house was clean, nicely furnished, spacious & comfortable, but as I said, not for us. Would be great for families.

Fantastic! The view is incredible and sitting on the deck with a cup of tea/coffee is the best way to start your day. The location is perfect…right down the street from a grocery store and a five minute drive into town. It provided the perfect respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life and the owners are most gracious. A++

It's exactly what we expected, alot of space and sleeping areas for a family of 5. The view outside the balcony was amazing. The owner was available for all communications via call /text. Carol was like part of the family our children adored her. We will for sure rent from these Wonderful people again the next time we vacation in Durango.

Great house for a family. Enough room for everyone to have space but still congregate together. Good location near town but far enough away to see wildlife. Close to road but still quiet. Our host was easily available for everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again

Absolutely perfect property for our stay in Durango. Spotlessly clean, fully stocked kitchen, bathrooms and laundry. The home was so spacious and the porch was exceptional. Watched the sunrise and sunset everyday and a family of deer grazing in the yard. The location was very convenient as well. Highly recommend this property.

Comfortable, Clean, Great Views, Spacious
The home is very spacious, clean and comfortable! We really enjoyed the covered deck as it boasts lovely views and is an extension of the main living space. The deck includes plenty of chairs, eating table, side table and propane grill. Having two full bathrooms was helpful as we were traveling with another couple. The kitchen is large and well appointed.
