This is our 4th time staying at this cottage. I am a kayaker so I like the convenience of having a beach across the street to store my kayak and the location close to Castine harbor. The view from the cottage is amazing. Negatives would be access to the cottage is via steep stairs accessed from a damp basement.

A short walk to town. Everything was as decribed.

We loved our stay in this house and the village
Beautiful views peace and tranquility

Beautiful view quaint old town.

Overall very good stay. You just can’t beat the view and the access to the water right out the front door. Everything was very clean and organized. The front deck was great to use at night and during the day. My only critique would be that the bed could be a bit more comfortable but overall everything was as expected for a cottage on the shore. My family and I had a great time.

It was a wonderful property. Will go back again hopefully soon

Our stay in Castine was a week in July.
The cottage has terrific water views of the harbor. The acomadation was clean
and comfortable with many thoughtful extras.

My husband and I and our adult daughter spent a week here. We absolutely loved Castine. Beautiful town with amazing history. Great walking, good restaurants, hidden gem of a museum (Wilson Museum), and close to other lovely areas on the peninsula. The house was well-equipped and conveniently located very close to town. Beds were not comfortable for us. It was very humid while we were visiting, and the basement and the bathroom were pretty musty smelling (no fault of the owner). We spent lots of time on the deck enjoying the gorgeous view; we found the hard plastic chairs uncomfortable for extended sitting. It was a good home base for us, but we felt the house would benefit from a bit of TLC.

My husband and two teenage daughters had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage in beautiful Castine! Janet was a thoughtful and very responsive host, and her house was absolutely perfect for us. It was very clean, airy feeling, easy to keep clean, and the view was beautiful:) It rained for the 6 days we were there (obviously, no fault of the host), and we STILL had a wonderful time in the cottage, taking walks around Castine, reading the history, and then playing games while looking at the view from the table. Acadia was short enough ride that we could go for the day and do a few misty hikes: ) Great stay-thanks so much, Janet!

We had a seamless experience with Janet and the cottage. It’s a perfect size for a small family, made all the better that we could bring our four-legged member as well. The location is within walking distance to the small center of Castine, and quick drive to the highlights of the surrounding area. We look forward to a return visit in years to come!

My family enjoyed our stay here. The balcony was quite lovely overlooking the water. There are stairs across the street down to the water. It is an easy five minute walk to Main Street in Castine.

We've stayed here several times and will come back for as many years as it's available. It's our favorite spot in Maine. The house is very clean and has everything you need. Janet is very easy to communicate with. The view of the bay is unbeatable. The town of Castine is the most lovely on the coast and the residents will treat you like a neighbor. I'm always sad to leave this place.

This place rules. Right on the water. Beautiful view, with the cool, clean Maine air flowing through the place. Communicating with the property manager was great too. She was so responsive. And gave me the best suggestions for things to do. The place itself? So quaint. So nice. So clean. And the perfect vibe for a stay on the coast in Maine. I would return in a heartbeat (and probably will!). My dog, Reggie, loved the place too. Highly recommend this wonderful little spot in Castine 🙂

Nice location in Castine. Beautiful views of the harbor and access to the water. Very clean property and nicely furnished. Kitchen was well equipped. Worked very well for couple. Location allowed for access to numerous attractions all within about and hour and 15 minutes drive: Acadia NP, Bar Harbor, Schoodic, Milbridge, Camden, Ellsworth.

The cottage was very clean and well furnished. There were more stairs than we expected but we certainly enjoyed the stay! Janet was an amazing host and very responsive.

This is truly a hidden gem! Everything was wonderful - the house, the views, even the weather was amazing! Mornings on the deck enjoying the view and sunshine! The house had everything we needed plus more! Host Janet was great and made sure we had everything we needed! Can’t wait to return again!

This is the second time we have stayed at this cottage, and once again it was a perfect getaway. The view is stunning. It’s sunny, immaculately clean, simply but comfortably furnished, and has a restful, relaxed atmosphere. The slanted ceiling in the upstairs bedroom makes it feel like a sail loft, which is perfect since you look out over the harbor from almost every window. The open living area downstairs with exposed beams also has a great vibe.
The Castine village is quiet, picturesque, and definitely in a time warp. It’s ideal for taking walks, and Dyce Head, Witherle Woods and Fort Madison are worth seeing. It has Windmill Hill Market, which is a great small grocery store. Janet was an excellent host, and we communicated well. Checking in and out was easy, and the internet and TV worked perfectly. This place is a real find. We can’t wait to come back next year and hopefully stay longer.

I am a kayaker so the best feature of this house is access to the beach which is across the street from the house and down a set of stairs. i leave my kayak on the beach and have access to it whenever i want. The other great feature is walkability to Castine harbor and its center. Negative feature is access to the house through the basement which smells quite musty.

We booked two weeks. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a weed patch at the entryway and parking area with invasive vines engulfing the evergreens on either side and onto the deck. The general dirt on the entry way door and mat indicated a place not well cared for.
The photos are accurate and overall, the place was superficially clean.
We were disappointed by the stains on some of the floor mats, curtains (mismatched!) and towels. But our biggest shock was when we washed the queen bed sheets after the first week. The bed pad was badly stained and shredded on the under side. Even worse, the mattress was turned upside down under a topper in an attempt to conceal the large stain and torn fabric on the proper sleep side. The arrangement explained why the bed was so wobbly and uncomfortable.
Other deficiencies: Missing kitchen sink faucet aerator (we replaced); inoperative outlet in the downstairs bedroom; broken casement window crank; loose screws on a number of the other window cranks (tightened); woefully insufficient single swing-arm light provided for the entire kitchen area, plus no stove-oven exhaust vent. In addition, several corroded light sockets caused intermittent illumination failure (repaired). There was also heavy dust on some window screens restricting air flow. The appliances included an antiquated fridge with missing door shelf retaining bar. No trash pickup at the end of the first week as promised. Also, out-of-date information posted on the refrigerator door.
On the positive side, the mostly unobstructed view of the harbor was enjoyable; walk-to-town convenience; Roku TV service & internet were just fine.
Overall, this cottage suffers from neglect and indifference.

Peacefulness on the Bay
We had a wonderful 2+ week stay at this rustic cottage right at Penobscot Bay. Sitting on the generously sized deck gazing out at the sailboats and the nearby yacht club activities was a great way to relax. The cottage has comfortable beds, a dining table and chairs looking out the sliding door, fans in the bedrooms, and a well-equipped kitchen. The television and internet were both easy to use and dependable. Castine is a small town with few restaurants, but a great place to walk with very friendly people. There is history around every corner. We took many day trips to visit the nearby small towns and enjoyed many casual meals on our adventures. It's about one hour from Acadia, but it was very crowded in the summer.

This is our second stay and we'll be back again! We feel right at home here. The house is comfortable and has everything you need. The view is amazing no matter what the weather.
Castine is truly special. Plenty to do here for golfers and tennis players. History buffs will relish in walks around the town with well marked historic sites and a couple of museums. Visit The Castine Variety for a great meal or bring it back and enjoy an unobstructed view of the harbor on the balcony.

The cottage is light and airy, comfortably and tastefully furnished, and very well stocked. The town of Castine is adorable. We enjoyed taking walks around the village, as well as staying home, putting our feet up and enjoying the view. Janet is a great host and provided everything we needed for a wonderful vacation. We can't wait to come back next year!

Perfect Getaway
This place is great!
Cottage: sunny with views of the water from every window--immaculately clean--comfortable furniture--kitchen was well supplied--pots, pans, utensils, etc. The propane fireplace, which looked and felt like a real wood stove, was a nice feature. The owner provided helpful instructions and information about the area.
Castine: beautiful quiet seacoast village. Location near the town's center was perfect.
This is one of the nicest vacation homes we have rented. We were sad to have to leave.

Property was very clean upon arrival. Fabulous water view as advertised. Many stairs to enter and also getting to upper level bedroom. A little difficult for us. This time of the season found many restaurants and shops closed. Was very quiet. Maine is getting ready fo winter!

We loved the charming, historic town of Castine, its friendly residents, and scenic drive through the Blue HIll Peninsula and Acadia National Park. The cottage's waterfront location can't be beat, and we enjoyed an easy walk to town and all it had to offer. While the cottage's simple accommodations did have all the amenities listed, like soaps, towels, dishes and such, some of the living room furnishings could use a refresh, particularly the fold-out foam sleeper sofa, which was very uncomfortable to sit on. The second floor loft bedroom is very peaceful, and nicely furnished with colorful quilts.

Surprise!
Couch and Bed are a completely uncomfortable. We had to leave 1 day early because we couldn’t spend another day there without even one comfortable place to sit or sleep. There’s a musty/moldy odor that clings to everything . Sewer odor that floats up from basement when any water is used upstairs. TV is smallest flat screen available and delivers limited services. View is just OK, not spectacular, and apparently the tv is small as not to complete with the view according to the owner.
After host found out we were unhappy with things a car from next door was being parked on the property we were renting, they seem to be connected with the Host. Simple groceries were available in castine, plan on 30 minute drive for acceptable eats.

The location and views were wonderful. Unfortunately the basement had a terrible smell of mold. This is where the washer is located.
The one toilet was barely functioning. It needs replacement badly.
The yard is terribly overgrown.
I stayed 2 weeks and no one came to take the trash. The trash bin smelled very bad too.
So, while we loved the location and the view, the rest of the experience was pretty primitive.

This cottage is in a great location in the middle of Castine, and is very well equipped with everything that you need, including excellent wifi. We found it to be a good size even for our family of 6, with a large open area on the top floor and an open and bright kitchen and family room area. Janet stocks it with everything you need and it was very clean upon arrival.

We spent a lovely week here with our kids. The cottage has a picture-perfect view of the harbor and we spent many hours just gazing out from the deck at the boats. Easy walk to the shops and restaurants. We went kayaking and also explored the lighthouse and forts. Went on many driving tours of the area, including Ft. Knox and the observatory, as well as Belfast. We had a lovely, relaxing vacation! Owner was wonderfully responsive and kind. Highly recommend!
