About this cottage rental
Newly renovated cottage with 4 bedrooms. Two bathrooms and laundry. Living dining areas with bamboo floors. Unique custom furniture. Phone, cable TV, and wireless high speed internet included.
There is a large deck attached to the rear of the house. Half is open for loads of sunshine and half is covered and screened for solid comfort. Early breakfasts or sunset dinners are to be enjoyed in the screened porch. Gas grill is supplied.
Large back yard with fire pit (firewood provided) that backs up to twenty-five acres of Maine woods. A short walk through the woods takes you down to the tidal stream and countless adventures. Down the road and across brings you to Morse's cove, and the Penobscot river. The Webster family ran schooners and fishing boats from here in the late 1800's. The old boat house is now the family cabin.
Castine and the surrounding area is steeped in history. The village is a perfect New England village featuring a working harbor, a restored lighthouse, a natural history museum, the oldest continually running post office in the country, along with countless other attractions.
From fine dining to the best Lobster rolls around, you can find it all in the village. From sailing in the bay to laying on Back Shore Beach, and visiting the many revolutionary forts, you will find plenty to keep you busy.
Mount Desert Island is only an hour away and the beauty of Acadia National Park and the honky-tonk village of Bar Harbor and all the tourist shopping you will ever want.
A little closer -- and in a world all their own -- are Deer Isle and the beautiful village of Stonington. Just off shore is Isle au Haute, and another section of Acadia National Park. It is accessible only by Mail boat twice each day.
The Honeymoon Cottage is a great centrally-located spot to venture from and, just as important, a great place to rest and relax in and around nature!

The property owners were great from the start. We arrived late, after 10pm, on the day of check-in, and Paul worked with us to get us into the cottage. When we first walked in we felt immediately comfortable and at home.
The cottage was spotless and well appointed. It had everything we needed. The kitchen especially was well equipped. The grocery store was close by in Blue Hill so that we could stock up on food for our stay. The rooms were perfect for our three kids, and we slept so well on the master bedroom bed!
Castine itself is a gem! We ate lunch at the town dock and took a tour of the Penobscot Bay on Lil' Toot and got to see seals, osprey, cormorants, and eagles. Lil' Toot's skipper is very knowledgeable and a great guide! Everyone in town was so nice! We went to the Compass Rose at least two times! Backshore Beach ended up being a favorite for our family to find all kinds of treasures as we walked the shore. We enjoyed the Wilson Museum collection and the hands on activities they had for the kids. Castine is a little over an hour from Acadia National Park depending on the time of day, and we were able to go there and drive the park loop enjoying Cadillac Mountain, Thunder Hole, and Jordan Pond. We also went to The Great Main Lumberjack Show with Timber Tina and had a blast!
This was our first trip to Maine and we fell in love with Castine. We can't wait to return and see more! We would love to stay at the Honeymoon Cottage again!

The house was very clean and comfortable. The short walk to the Cove was a definite plus; we did it several times. We loved watching the sunset from the screened in porch, and cooking was easy in the well-equipped kitchen. Paul was very kind and responsive. We had a wonderful time.

We enjoyed the cleanliness and comfy beds. House had everything we needed to come home and relax and wake up and start our day of exploring Maine. We were able to spend a day traveling seeing sights on the way to Booth Bay and go to the Cabbage Key Clambake and enjoy a lobster meal, boat ride, and sunset on the island. Went to Acadia and spent the day exploring. Also enjoyed taking “Scarlet” golf cart tour with Bev sharing the points of interest and history of Beautiful Castine. On that day we got to witness the Historic Boudoin ship come into the harbor. We loved Castine. Visited the Penobscot Bridge and fort on our way to driving on Hwy 1 to explore the different sites and eat lobster. We enjoyed lobster everyday during our 5 days. We also had a great breakfast buffet at the Castine Inn one morning on their porch. We also took a day to explore on our way to Stonington. We missed the Ferry to Isle of Haught but that would have been fun to do. So you can see your home is located in a very good location to branch out and do a variety of things!

Very clean, good location, and friendly host. We were looking for a comfortable place from which to explore the mid coast of Maine, and this place worked fine. Plenty of beds, a nice deck to relax on, and a well stocked kitchen.

There were 10 of us, 6 adults and 4 children. We had plenty of beds for sleeping, as long as some are willing to share. The living room was big enough, though some of us had to sit in dining room chairs. We were able to sit at the dining room table and the screened in porch to eat. Our group was very large, and we all get along pretty well, so we thought it was comfortable. They had everything we needed for cookware and for preparing our meals. We greatly enjoyed ourselves.

This house was perfect for 3 adults and 4 teenagers. Plenty of room for all of us to be comfortable. Super clean. Close to the Town of Castine, small but quaint and full of history. Only an hour drive from Bar Harbor and Acadia. Paul and Rachel were very responsive and helpful. I’d highly recommend staying here, and will look to book again should we return.
4.0 / 5.0
Our family of four enjoyed our stay at the honeymoon cottage in August. The house was very clean and most everything we needed was provided. The outdoor space plus the screen porch were especially lovely.
A few things to be aware of:
- Plan to do some driving. The adorable town of Castine is about 10 minutes away. There are a few restaurants there but they do tend to be busy and we found one of them was closed to the public for a couple of the nights we were there which limited our options.
-The kitchen is well equipped with dishes, glasses, utensils and pots and pans which were of surprising quality for a rental. However there are no staples provided beyond small salt and pepper shakers. So if you plan to do any cooking make sure to stock up on anything you need at the grocery store.
-The house sits close to the road. There isn't a lot of traffic but it is noisy when cars or trucks go by and it tends to be busier early in the morning. I assume people not lucky enough to be on vacation are heading to work.
-The living area is not as spacious as it appears in the pictures. The couch and chair are comfy and the smart tv is nice. The internet worked quite well! But there wasn't really enough room for two adults and two teenagers to be comfortable together in the space. Luckily (?) our kids were happy with their bedrooms upstairs and spent their down time (we had two very rainy days!) lounging on their beds watching tv or movies on their phones.
-There is an air conditioner in the living room window which we did not require the use of, but it was nice to know it was there.
Here is my only complaint. The bed in the main floor bedroom is hideously uncomfortable. It managed to somehow be too hard and too soft at the same time. There were two craters in which to sleep and my husband (who really isn't that large) sunk far enough in to the mattress to be bothered by the metal frame of the bed.

This was a great house. It was a quiet area. The location was perfect for us. We saw deer on two different occasions. We were able to do day trips with ease. The house was very clean upon arrival. Even the grill outside was spotless. The owner was very nice and met us there when we arrived. He suggested we visit Stonington because it would not be as busy as some of the area attractions. It was a great spot.

Friends Gather in Castine
Our group of six friends wanted a casual spot on the coast for a short get-away to reunite after being apart for two years. The “Cottage” was exactly as advertised. It comfortably accommodated our group of six very (with room to spare) - everyone had their own comfortable bed, there were plenty of bathroom/shower facilities, seating for dining & chatting. The kitchen was modern/well-equipped with every need anticipated. And the cleanliness was impeccable with a truly impressive supply of towels and linens. The location - an easy four miles or so from Castine center - provided privacy along with outdoor and screened seating plus a fire pit and gas grill surrounded by welcoming landscaping.. All of this was enhanced by the genuine friendliness of owner Paul who greeted us promptly and made sure all was in order, and although it was never required, was available 24/7 should any need arise . The Cottage was perfect for our visit and we could not give a stronger recommendation!

Delightful Location / Excellent House
This was the perfect place for our family. Close to Castine and a reasonable drive to Acadia. The house was clean and suited our needs. The owner thoughfully left out some made in Maine snacks and beverages. Yummm... Rachel, the caretaker, was a delight to work with. I would not change a thing. I would stay at the Honeymoon Cottage again.

Wedding weekend getaway
1026 Castine Rd. was the perfect house for our quick weekend get away for my nieces wedding at the Maine Maritime College. The house was VERY clean, updated and had everything we needed for the weekend. Paul our host met us at the house upon arrival and was wonderful, he even had drinks and snacks for us after our long car trip. He also gave us the rundown of some of the local places to eat drink and food shop. The house was even nicer then it showed in the pictures and was very roomy for the five of us. We had plenty of space inside and out. There was a nice deck and plenty of yard space. The house was also very well equipped with everything you needed. If we ever come back to Castine we would definitely stay here again. Thank you Paul and Rachel!

Better than described
The property was better than had been described in the listing. Paul was a great host and meet us when checking in. The home had everything that we needed including a new BBQ which we were able to use. The WiFi worked well and the kitchen is well stocked with all the equipment we needed, better than most houses I have rented.
When I had questions Paul was available and responded quickly.
The downstairs bedroom is a little funky to get to because of the vertical clearance but my boys thought it was awesome that they were away from everyone else. There are four bedrooms which was more than enough for my family.
The house is a little of the beaten path but I found that everything in Maine is that way. It is an hour from Acadia national park which we enjoyed. The best attraction we went to was fort Knox (not the one in KY) which is only about 25 minutes away. The town of castine also has some reversionary war earth works which are cool to check out and unlike most I have seen you can be on these ones.
If I return to this area I will be contacting Paul to see if this property is available again.

Excellent house and hosts
This a nice clean house, with very responsive and attentive hosts. They started off by leaving us a little gift basket, of sorts, with all kinds of Maine food and beverage. All of the minor issues we had were responded to quickly by the owners. Can’t say enough about them.
The property is secluded, private and well maintained. Good location to see Acadia and other parts of Downeast.

Maine - time to relax
The house is very nice and Paul was very welcoming. It was a relaxing stay. Maine is beautiful! Love it! If you’re traveling with seniors, just be aware there are a lot of throw rugs. Also, be careful of speeders on roads.

Lasting Impression, Wonderful Memories
We came to the Honeymoon Cottage with unexpected and unique circumstances. Our beloved dog was lost and my husband flew back home to PA to aid in the search for him… We weren’t sure if he would be back. Each day was uncertain and a revaluation of circumstances, but the one thing that remained a constant source of comfort was this incredible, little house that felt like home to the four of us for even just a few days. Paul could not have been more helpful, understanding and accommodating. Paul met us at the house upon check-in and showed us around. The house was stocked with fresh goodies; beer and wine, seltzer waters, cheese, crackers and a little something sweet. It was such a nice surprise! The cottage itself is lovely. It had been recently renovated and it is quaint and charming and very comfortable. It was very spacious and had plenty of room to spare. It was immaculate and it had everything we needed—a well-appointed kitchen, two nice-sized, newly renovated bathrooms, a beautiful master bedroom and two bedrooms upstairs that were perfect for my three kids. There was a cozy family room with a smart TV, and WiFi in case you have a rainy day, otherwise you could be outside in the spacious yard, or by the fire pit, or having a drink on the deck or screened-in porch. The breeze through the open windows, the sunset and the quiet evenings were quintessential Maine and just what we needed after a long day. We found Castine to be a great jumping off point for our adventures. We visited Acadia and Bar Harbor and downtown Castine for some kayaking… it is just a stunningly beautiful spot with an amazing story of history to tell.
Paul was available if we had any questions—like where to get a great lobster dinner, or problems (but we didn’t have any). He was the kind of host that made us feel truly welcomed and cared for and I can’t explain how much that meant to us. Paul even followed up with us after our stay and went out of his way to send some items back to us that we had left at the house. The Honeymoon Cottage was the perfect spot for us. My husband wasn’t able to come back and join us, but we are hoping to make this property and Castine, ME a vacation tradition for us. My family can’t wait to come back next time. This was hands down, a five-star experience and I would highly recommend the Honeymoon Cottage and Paul and Marie’s lovely hospitality to anyone looking to get away and enjoy the beauty, peace, serenity and adventure of Maine.

Great base for exploring
Great house. New, high-quality, cheeful renovation with tasteful vacation art. Many bedrooms and three places to eat: the dining room, the screen porch, and the back patio. For cozy time, there is nice furniture in the living room with a large-screen TV.
The owner is eager to hear questions on any subject and responds with high-quality solutions. The kitchen is fully equipped, with pots, pans, dishes, and utensils for cooking and eating a wide variety of casual and full meals.
The town of Castine is a jewel - small and walkable, with small restaurants and a charming active waterfront. You can also get out to nearby towns and parks depending on your interests. To name just one activity: Castine Kayak will give you a paddle, a life vest, and a well-rehearsed safety talk, then guide you on a salt-water adventure. Tons of little islands and coves to explore.

We had a wonderful stay at the Honeymoon Cottage. The home is very clean and you can tell the owner takes pride in the property. The owner was very easy to work with and there to answer all of our questions about the house, as well as the area and things to do.

We had the most wonderful stay at The Honeymoon Cottage! Paul thought of literally anything and everything we could need during our stay...also plenty of tips on great places to buy lobsters for steaming. Bedrooms are so comfy; screened in back patio is perfect for watching the sunset through the trees; so much more! You need to book The Honeymoon Cottage ASAP! You’ll be so glad you did! (Ps Paul is terrific!)

A spacious and lovely located home with an excellent kitchen
We had a family of 6 adults and two children and a dog. All were well serviced by one of the more exceptional homes that we have stayed in. Lots of room, plenty of hot water with appliances all running well. The kitchen was one of the better kitchens we have used in a rental and as we do a lot of cooking is an important element for factoring our happiness. All the cookware was Cuisinart (!) and all seemed relatively new as well. Well done Paul, our host, who not only presented a terrific home but also had laid in a store of goodies, wine and beer as well. And good stuff too. Who does that? Two full baths with showers made it easy for everyone to relax after the day trips to various lovely towns that were nearby (we visited Castine- only minutes away, Blue Hill, where we shopped, had our fine meal at Arborvine, and Kayaked, was just 25 minutes, Stonington and Bar Harbor were each about an hour). Also a calm and quiet beach which was taken advantage of nearly everyday! Paul always responded quickly whenever I had a question and though we didn't encounter any issues it was nice knowing that he maintained contact. The backyard provided ample space for kids and dogs to run, play some baseball and badminton. The screened in porch was especially good for us for the breakfast and evening meals. Great location, great kitchen and very happy memories.

We had a great time in Maine!
First of all, Paul was a fantastic host. Even though we arrrived quite late at night, he was there to greet us and even had the lights on to make sure we found the right spot. His home had everything we needed for our trip. Plenty of room and well stocked. He even had extra firewood delivered mid-week so we could have a campfire in the fire pit. We had a fabulous experience at the Honeymoon Cottage and would highly recommend it.

This is a very comfortable cottage and convenient for all of the places we like to go!
The cottage is comfortable, very clean, and had every convenience you could want...... cuisinart cookware, lobster pot, deluxe propane grill, fluffy white towels, comfy beds , fast wi-fi, cable tv, gas stove, washer/dryer...on & on. It was decorated very nicely. I especially enjoyed the screened porch as I am a mosquito magnet. We did not use the fire pit, but imagine others would love it. It was warm while we were in Castine, but ceiling fans and window fans kept us comfortable. There is a walkout basement where the 4th bedroom is, and one of our family members chose that bedroom as it was a good 10 degrees cooler down there.
Paul was helpful without being intrusive, so when I asked if there was an iron, a brand new one appeared on the front steps the next day.
We travel to this area of Maine every year, so we didn't need any guidance for what to do or see, but Paul provided guide books and maps of the area that would be handy for those new to the area.
All in all, I would highly recommend this rental cottage for anyone looking for a comfortable enjoyable place that has room to spread out both indoors and outdoors.

Updated private, cozy, country home with friendly & trustworthy owner
This was our first family vacation, with a 4 month old baby and 1 year old german shepherd, and the Honeymoon Cottage was perfect for us & we'd recommend the house to family & friends. The house was as described and pictured - charming, clean, well decorated, with landscaped grounds. The owner, Paul, met us upon our arrival, showed us around the property, and gave us helpful advice about the area (restaurants, stores, etc.). Paul was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay and after. (When we arrived home, we realized we had mistakenly left several hundred dollars cash at the house...we spoke with Paul the next morning and he immediately went to the house, located the cash, honestly told us that it was $50 more than we thought, and mailed us a check.) We couldn't have been more thankful for his honesty and assistance.
The house had good wifi, a smart tv, cable, an iron, coffee maker, toaster, washer/dryer, dishwasher, grill, kitchen supplies, towels, bedding, and more - so basically everything you might need. The house is close to the road, but is very private, in a safe area, and a short walk to the water. We visited in late August, and while the temperature got up to the mid 80s during the day, there were fans for every room and the house was sufficiently cool without air conditioning. The master bedroom was spacious, with vaulted ceilings, two closets, and was private. It was large enough for us to have our baby's pack-n-play in the room without sacrificing space. There are two other bedrooms on the 2nd floor, along with a full bathroom, and the fourth bedroom is in the walk-out basement - providing extra privacy. The yard was large & well kept - our dog loved running around in it. We spent our evenings on the screened in porch having dinner and playing cards, or by the fire pit (you do need a permit from the town to make a fire). The fire permit was another example of Paul going above and beyond - when I went to town hall it was closed due to a personal emergency so we called Paul and he contacted the necessary individuals to get a permit issued.
Lastly, it's easy to visit Acadia from the house, it's a 45-55 minute drive that we did several days, as well as several other coastal towns.

Cozy, comfortable and tranquil
My family and I had a wonderful and pleasant stay at the honeymoon cottage. We were a group of 8, and the house was spacious enough to accommodate all of us. The house is up to date, well- maintained, very clean and despite being surrounded by woods, we didn't experience any critters or insects inside the house. Paul (the owner) did a great job with screening the Florida room and we enjoyed many of our meals there in the open air without worrying about any bugs.
The house was well equipped with the basic kitchen necessities, which was quite helpful. The counter space is sufficient and the fridge was also roomy enough to store lots of groceries and provisions. The laundry room, grill, outdoor deck and yard space was a big plus! Our 4 boys enjoyed their time running around outside and had so much fun. Although, it is a remote location, the area seems very safe!
The drive to downtown the Castine and the waterfront is about 10 mins. There are two small general stores in Castine, which have limited stock and limited hours. The closest supermarket is about 20 mins. away. The drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia took about an hour.
Paul was very hospitable and gracious and immediately addressed any questions or requests that we had. I would highly recommend a stay here, if you plan to visit the area.

Perfect house for a family vacation
This house served as a great location for my extended family vacation, and every family member just loved this house. The house has great space for the entire family, and the screened-in sun porch was most enjoyable for a mosquito-free evening. The kitchen was perfectly appointed with everything we needed from a large lobster pot for our lobster feast, saute pans, coffee maker and wine opener.
Our trips to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park were less than an hour long. The location was central to all our daily adventures and allowed us to relax in the evening. Paul made sure all of our questions were answered and was very accommodating. We highly recommend staying here!
