Named after local Marine Biologist, Edward F. Ricketts, the Ricketts' Retreat House has a classy Monterey Bay feel . Last house at the end of the street with an enclosed private yard, and naturally, you can see the ocean from the driveway. In 3 blocks, you could be at the fire-pits of Twin Lakes Beach, sailing a boat at the Harbor, or grabbing a bite to eat at the Crow's Nest or Johnny's Harbor side. In one mile, you could be riding the Giant Dipper at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Additionally, the famed Steamer Lane surf spot, West Cliff, Capitola, and UC Santa Cruz's Seymour Marine Discovery Center are within a four-mile radius of the house.

The House is furnished in good taste with all essential amenities including linens, towels, and paper products. The bedroom has a new comfortable queen bed, dresser, closet, adjoining the bright bathroom (with windows) and walk-in shower. Kitchen has a new gas stove/oven, a microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, and garbage disposal. Adjoining to the kitchen is a dining area, and the living room with pull out double sofa bed. Gas fireplace with temperature control, 36" Smart TV and WiFi are also present for your enjoyment. House comes ready with a washer and dryer and is essential for beach-goers. The backyard has an amazing hot tub, shower, gas barbecue, outdoor furniture, and the front yard has bistro seating. Parking on street with no permit required, and driveway parking. Nice clean house. Great hot tub and grill. Small but cozy. Great temperature with windows open. Perfect size for our family of 3 over holiday weekend. Quiet small street. Walking distance to Marina and Crow’s Nest Market and Restaurant. Multiple seating areas are nice although one more cozy seating area near hot tub would be an improvement. We’d stay again.

This little cottage was perfectly located for a long weekend in Santa Cruz. We were within walking distance of the Boardwalk, which is where we took the train to the Mountain Sol music festival. We forgot sugar for our coffee and were delighted to find some in the cupboard. Great stay and highly recommend.

It is small but very comfortable and perfect for a couple. The location is wonderful, quiet and a short walk to the beach. The hot tub was in pristine condition and a nice bonus. We have nothing negative to say about this place and are looking forward to returning.

The lovely bungalow is even more lovely in person than the photos show! Usually it’s the other way around! The yard is spacious and beautiful; the house and bedroom is cozy; everything you need is available and comfortable. The hot tub is great! The location is perfect. It’s a bargain and we’ll be back. So grateful its pet friendly.

Nice place ,could use better T.V. with local stations. Decor is clean and basic. Location is perfect little walk to the beach and dinner, no need to drive. Enjoyed our stay. Very quiet neighborhood. Thanks

This cute, cozy bungalow is perfect! A well-stocked kitchen made it nice to eat in. We enjoyed being off the busy streets but yet were able to get where we wanted by walking. The hot tub was also a pleasure. Glad we were able to stay here for a week.

Well-appointed cottage that was easy to access and on a lovely quiet street. The kitchen had almost all the needed items. The yard was perfect for our pups. The bed and bath were clean and set up wonderfully with soft sheets, comfortable towels, and lovely decor. We will be back!

Clean, convenient, comfy place. Only complaint is the very narrow driveway. I’d recommend parking in front of the house rather than trying to squeeze your car into the driveway. But you can’t always park in front because other cars park there too sometimes. Other than that, it’s a great little getaway in Santa Cruz, very close to the beach & harbor.

Cute & clean house, comfortable bed, nice gas fireplace, good little yard for a dog. And a hot tub! My only complaint would be the driveway. It’s really narrow & hard to maneuver into. There are 2 posts about halfway down the length of it, on the right. Watch out for them! Unfortunately I got too close & my car got scraped. I didn’t have anyone in the passenger side of my car; if I had, they could have warned me I was getting too close (but then of course, they wouldn’t have been able to exit the car on that side, it’s so tight!) I gave 4 stars for the overall rating because of this. There is parking in front of the house, which I would recommend instead of the driveway! Otherwise, it’s an awesome, very comfortable place!

This was.a nice small cottage to stay at. Unfortunately we had on the first day of 3 days due to an evacuation notice given by the county. We asked if we could change the dates and use it another time and we were told no. We did not ask for a refund. We thought it might be reasonable due to the circumstances.

A super-cute cottage in a great location. Stayed there a month to work, explore, and relax, and this property was perfect. Clean, comfortable, simple. Owners/managers were very responsive. Note that the wifi was fast (300MB) and very reliable, great for remote working.

The property managers were fantastic and very helpful when we had questions. Our only complaint was we didn’t realize how small the street and parking area would be. It’s a very tight fit and we wished we would have brought our smaller vehicle instead of the truck. We had a hard time parking especially with the neighbors parking in front of the house. This is not the owners fault, just be aware :)

Stayed here for a long weekend getaway. Property is close to everything and has a great kitchen and BBQ area if you want to stay in. Quiet neighborhood and a fenced in yard made it perfect for us and our dog. Will definitely stay again when in the area.

Enjoyed the property as our home base to visit the sites. We didn’t spend that much time at the home but we found it to be perfect for what we were looking for. The nights were fairly cool and enjoyed the hot tub (which was clean). Quiet location with lots to do within walking distance for our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teenagers). Thanks for a great stay!
