About this house rental
We love spending time at the camp to relax and reconnect, and we hope you do too! With 100’ of private sandy bottom waterfront on beautiful Thompson Lake, a wraparound deck with screened porch, and cozy camp for up to 9 people, it’s a perfect spot to enjoy a summer/fall/winter vacation in Maine with family & friends. The camp is located on beautiful 13 mile long Thompson Lake, one of the cleanest and most serene lakes in Maine. The sandy bottom frontage provides the perfect spot for boating, kayaking, fishing or just playing in the water. There is a public beach with deep water for swimming just across the way reachable by boat/kayak/car. Summers in Maine are fantastic, you always want to be outdoors! There is well-lit dock, and kayaks, life jackets, and floaties that are available for guest use (at your own risk.) The backyard has a firepit, grill, and a hammock, and you can take in the beautiful views of the lake from the wraparound deck with a screened porch. It is a wonderful place to enjoy a morning coffee and sunrise, laying in the sun, or bbq’ing with friends and family. The yard is flat and great for kids to play on. Keep an eye out for the 22 pairs of loons (they mate for life!), bald eagles, moose, and other wildlife.
A winter getaway is just as lovely - there are several ski mountains in the area, and easy access to snow shoeing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, tubing, sledding, and cross country skiing make this an excellent spot for family fun (or a romantic weekend!) Firewood is available for the indoor fireplace as well as the outdoor firepit. A new hot tub was added to the deck in 2021 and is just the best!
The house was recently renovated with lots of upgrades! Both bathrooms (with bathtubs) sparkle. All 3 bedrooms have new carpet and bedding is provided so the house comfortably sleeps 6-7 adults and up to 9 people total including children. The two bedrooms upstairs each have a queen size bed, and the bedroom downstairs has full bunk beds with a twin trundle. The top bunk supports up to 400 lbs but is more comfortable for kids or teens. The kitchen features new appliances, lots of counter space, and is fully stocked with all the essentials, including microwave, coffee maker, pots/pans/dishes, and lobster pot! Dining room seats 8. The living room has a fireplace, Smart TV, and fuzzy blankets – perfect for snuggling up in the fall and winter, if your visit brings you up for the gorgeous fall foliage or a winter getaway. Downstairs has a finished basement with a playroom including a leather couch, giant beanbag, and big screen TV (with a DVD player, Amazon firestick, and surround sound) as well as a newly felted pool table, dartboard and board games. The playroom has direct access to the backyard and lake via sliding glass doors. There is a pack 'n' play crib/changing table for young ones.
Thompson Lake is a diamond in the rough – it is quieter and more family friendly than the busier Sebago and Long Lakes with all of the same great activities. If you’re looking for a livelier evening you can hop down to Bridgton, Casco, or Naples, they are all a short drive away and have fun restaurants, bars, and shops.
There is plenty of parking in the driveway, please do not park on the lawn. Feel free to bring your boat if you have one. We can answer questions about sizing and where to launch so just ask!
We are dog friendly and offer discounts for repeat guests. A unique keypad code will be provided before guest arrival.
What is provided: Upon your arrival, the house will be clean with fresh sheets and towels, and stocked with the following items to get your started. Depending on the length of your stay the quantity of disposable products will vary, so you might need to supplement. But we never want anyone to arrive and not be able to use the bathroom! :0)
New sponge
Dish soap
Paper towels
Cleaning spray
Hand soap in bathrooms
Toilet paper
Toiletries basket (shampoo/conditioner/lotion/toothpaste, etc.)
Clear trash bags
The Neighborhood: The neighborhood is family friendly, with some homes occupied year-round and others that are used for vacationers. Our street is a private paved road that is quiet and well maintained in the winter making it accessible without 4-wheel drive, though that is always safer during the snowy times of year.
Sebago and Long Lakes are about 20 minutes away. Shawnee Peak is a 20 minutes, and Sunday River is under an hour away, making this a great spot for both summer and winter ski vacations. And in the fall you don't have to go far to enjoy the gorgeous foliage! The camp is 45 minutes from Portland, and ~2 hours from the Boston area.
*Outdoor security cameras are installed on the property.

The home was advertised. The home was clean and roomy. The lake is clean. The grounds are in good shape. The owners maintain the home. My two sisters were extremely impressed with the home and the surrounding area.

We enjoyed our stay on Thompson Lake. The house was perfect for the 6 of us. We had everything we needed and more. The host got back to us right away when we had questions. The only slight downfall is the part of the lake it is on. There is a great dock and it is weed free right around the dock, but there are lots of weeds in the area and stumps that we had to try to avoid as we took our boat out. Overall, an excellent stay!

Really enjoyed our stay. Basement setup was great for our two college age kids. Great views of the lake and the bench on the dock was the perfect spot for an early evening cocktails. Hot tub was immaculate and a great way to start or end the day.

We brought our 1 year old dog to Hillmania so she could learn to play in the water. She had a lot of fun wading in the shallow water and jumping off the dock.
We also enjoyed the fire pit, and the hot tub, and just hanging out on the deck or dock, looking at the lake.

Loved this property. Could not beat the beautiful sunrises and sunsets on the Lake. There were two different living room areas, which was beneficial with two teenagers.

Perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. My family had a wonderful week at this beautiful cabin. We had been looking forward to a vacation all summer, and it did not dissapoint. The cabin is cozy, clean, comfortable and it really felt like a home away from home. Morgan was fantastic to work with and so accomodating. Thank you for everything! I would definitely recommend staying here.

Everything about this stay was easy and seamless. We were able to get in, get settled, and communicate with the owner as necessary.

House was clean. Nice quiet neighborhood. Was nice to be able to bring our dogs with us. Hot tub was great to relax in at the end of the day. Stayed in October so really enjoyed the fireplace!

Hillmania is an absolute joy to stay at! The house is spacious and clean, with everything you could possibly need to be comfortable and entertained. The amenities at the home were well thought out, it's clear that these are seasoned hosts. Morgan was very easy to communicate with, responsive when I had questions. The lake is lovely and quiet, and we enjoyed our stay very much.

Great stay. Enjoyed the visit and property. Only downfall was the water is very shallow to navigate a boat in and out to the main lake. But we thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Thank you Morgan.

We had a fabulous week at Camp Hillmania! The check in was super easy and the renters were extremely easy to communicate with and responsive. The weather didn’t cooperate the first few days but our kids didn’t run out of things to do in the house. Movies, video games, card games, and countless hours of billiards kept them happy. Then it was out on the lake for the fun. We met loons, snakes, and caught a bunch of fish. The house was very comfortable and we felt at home and relaxed. The hot tub was fabulous and a special treat for us. I would highly recommend this camp for anyone who wants a truly quiet, relaxing, experience on Lake Thompson.

I would love to tell you this place was awful to keep it a secret but that would be selfish .. it was amazing. The hosts were incredibly responsive and provided everything we needed and more. The hosts went above and beyond to ensure that our vacation was fantastic! The house was cozy enough to reconnect with our adult daughters but had plenty of room to give everyone their space. Beds were extremely comfortable (trust me when I say we have had our share of awful mattresses over the years) . The hot tub was alot of fun and helped us to unwind. The water was crystal clear and because we were behind the island it was quiet and peaceful. Dish Washer and washer and dryer were a welcome site as we didn't leave with any dirty laundry :) Can't wait to go back.

This is my 2nd time renting with Morgan, she is fantastic. Excellent communication, and have never had a single issue.
Thompson lake is beautiful and perfect for our annual fishing trip. We had two bass boats with plenty of parking for our trailers and room on the dock.
The house is stocked with everything you could need need. Screened in porch for dinner is a bonus and we used it every night. I would highly recommend for families w/ kids or just adults, plenty of room inside and out.

We needed a cozy , quiet spot to get away for the Thanksgiving holiday and this was perfect. Cozy with enough space to spread out, fun games and the Hot Tub was a total joy. Relaxing by the lake , having our dogs along and spotting the Eagle made the stay complete . Thank you !

At 7:00 PM on our second night, every drain in the house started to erupt with sewage. The shower drain, the bathroom sink drain, and the downstairs tub were all ejecting black, cloudy water. Worse, the kitchen sink was shooting out sewage with enough force that the entire sink, and everything in it, was soon covered in sewage.
We called the owners and after some troubleshooting, they offered to pay for a nearby hotel and claimed that the plumber told them the last guests must have flushed something they shouldn’t have. We asked if there was something in the basement we could shut off to stop the drains overflowing, and were told not to touch anything, so we didn’t. According to them, because this happened on a Sunday night, no plumbers could come by so there wouldn’t be a fix until the following day (at the earliest). Our belongings were getting covered in sewage. It was 8 pm on a Sunday night and we were 4 hours from home. We decided to gather up everything that hadn’t been touched by sewage and find new accommodations for the week, knowing that even if the plumbing was fixed, the house would need to be cleaned and that would not happen quickly.
The next day, the owners called because we had found new accommodations, then tried to charge us for the first night AND the hotel stay we didn’t use, as well as refusing to refund fees. At this point, all drains were ejecting sewage for at least 12 hours and the owners stated that they were cancelling their emergency plumber because we had left, to save money. The owners had very little urgency around it, and primarily seemed irritated with us for finding a new place to stay instead of waiting for news in the morning. We encouraged them to still have someone come out that day because the situation was bad, and we were worried about their house.
Now, after our trip, we are back home and they claim to have refunded the full trip but we are still missing over $1000. When we inquired about the difference, the owners threatened to take our deposit to pay for the damages to their house and accused us of flushing “wipes” down the toilet, completely contrary to what they told us on the phone, when they said a previous guest did it.
If the owners hadn’t handled this situation so poorly, I wouldn’t have left this review (sh** happens, after all). It was the way the owners handled the situation that earned them 1 star.

Very comfortable property, we felt right at home. Homeowner was available for questions via text , that was much appreciated. We loved that we could bring our dog and he also felt welcome and at home. the lake was beautiful, the timing for the Foliage was perfect.

We loved the house. Dog friendly. The indoor fireplace was great for rainy days. The kitchen was well equipped for some fancy cookers. It was perfect 🥰

Camp Hillmania had everything we needed and more. The location was ideal for us and our 2 furbabies. Listening to the Loons early morning and late afternoon was a constant reminder of why we chose to spend a few days by the lake. Morgan was responsive from the time we booked until the day we left.

We just completed our stay on August 20, 2022. It was a fun time for everyone in our extended family. We had two parts of our family stay on consecutive weeks. Everyone had a great time and the amenities for our teens and adults were spot on, especially the kayaks, corn hole and hot tub. We rented a pontoon boat and were able to swim and go tubing every day from the boat on the main part of the lake. Only downside was how shallow the water was in front of the house making swimming there impossible and how we had to take the boat very carefully through a weed and tree stump patch to get to the dock. On the up side, the house was fully supplied with all our needs and Morgan and Aaron were very accommodating and always answered our questions and concerns immediately. All in all, it was a beautiful setting and a marvelous two weeks.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hillmania during this recent heat wave in Maine. Home was perfect for our needs. Teen sons loved the downstairs rec room. Only wished the lake frontage was deep water instead of sand bar to allow swimming right at the house, but the beach across the lake was easily accessible by kayak/canoe or car. Owners were quick to answer any questions.

The house is spacious and had everything we needed for a group of 6. The beds were very comfortable and the AC was so helpful when the temps hit the 90s. The screen porch was great for meals, game nights and sing alongs! Kayacking was wonderful and sighting a Loon pair with their baby chick was a bonus. The lake front is beautiful, but the water is shallow. Not great for swimming, but this is probably not an issue if you have a boat. We kayaked across to the public beach, for swimming. Overall, it was a fun and relaxing week. Morgan (the owner) was very responsive and helpful.

Hope we can return...
“I almost don’t want to leave this review so no one will steal our week!! But boy, what a gem of a place this is.
The house was so comfortable we didn’t want or need for anything. It is well-appointed with the basics (the kitchen had everything we needed!) all of the bedrooms were comfortable, an adorable eating area with a window seat that even has a step stool for the puppies! There are two comfortable spaces for TV watching (upstairs and downstairs..ideal if you bring kids!) pool table, LOTS of games, DVDs, and the outdoor amenities..wow. A huge screened in porch that lets you enjoy the outdoors but keeps you away from bugs and rain (we had all our meals there!!) a huge, beautiful gated deck that our dogs could enjoy with us, and a slider to the deck right off the main bedroom…and a glorious HOTTUB that we all enjoyed. And as a nice little “extra” we enjoyed the deck at night with the soft glow of the string lights.
We enjoyed kayaking with the loons, floating on the lake, and the last night we enjoyed s’mores at the firepit! And don’t think we didn’t enjoy the sunrise with our coffee from both the deck *and* the dock. We truly didn’t want to leave.
When we are on vacation, we are often looking for things to do in the area because eventually we get bored at the house. Not this time! I could have stayed for a month.
Thank you, Morgan and Aaron, for being real-time responsive when we had some minor questions, and for sharing your home with us! We can’t wait to come back.”

Great spot for a weekend away
Great stay at Hillmania! We enjoyed the shallow wading off the dock for our young son. The lake is large, and boat traffic seemed fairly tame at this point in the year. We canoed and kayaked around the area. Dogs being allowed was a huge plus. And the owner was super responsive when we had a question. Thanks again!

We had such a good time! This place was perfect and had everything we needed. The views were amazing, neighborhood was quiet and Morgan was absolutely amazing. She responded very timely to any questions we had and went above and beyond to make our experience great. We will definitely be coming back as long as she will have us!

Amazing rental
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week and we lived the place. Very home like feel. We had family and friends over and plenty of thing for all ages to be entertained. Great place to stay at for a getaway.

What a relaxing stay
What a beautifully cozy place to spend a few relaxing days!

Winter stay
I believe this house would be much better in summer as there's just one place to lounge, be warm, and look at the beautiful frozen lake and that is in the hot tub. The only inside chair thats facing the lake, is one wooden kitchen chair. During the warmer months, I could see how the deck and screened in porch would provide more of that pretty lake view this property has to offer.
The Hosts have done a fabulous job, but the house design wasn't ideal for us as a winter retreat.
