Staff, owners, Klaus and Isabelle were both very nice and helpful, und sehr nett zu mit ihm zu reden. The room had very exceptional views of the lake and mountains and was close to town. Room was clean and comfortable. No complaints .
I would definitely stay there again.
Could be updated a little and breakfast was limited but most travelers would work around that as the good points far out weigh them.

Frau Isabelle is friendly from the beginning and made check-in so easy even when I arrived after-hours due to train delays. The beautiful private patio where swans come up and nest is a place where other outside tourists (who can only take pictures from way above) become jealous, and is a serene haven where you can truly relax (you can even jump into the lake from there if you want from the patio's diving boards!) Herr Claus/Klaus is the most friendly for preparing your daily breakfast and for providing the most useful travel information, including which bus stop is the most convenient for your personal plan. Stay 3 or more nights and you even get the Salzkammergut Card where you can get deep discounts for sightseeing places! Love how the rooms are all decorated with natural wood, with bonus in-room sink and hairdryer, and lots of closet spaces. Shared bathroom and shower are clean and wonderful. Wi-Fi works excellently and reliably in room!

The place is simply amazing. We had a private balcony with a beautiful view to the lake. The owners do their best to help you with what you need. For a small fee they provide laundry service, wich for us was a gret plus (paid 5 euros for a basket of clothes). Breakfast is simple but good.

The hotel was a very nice place to escape from the horrorful and and unfriendly conditions of the Hallstatt city. Rustical-style wooden house from late 1930s, greatly maintained and reasonably well equipped. Balcony in every room with a fantastic view over the the lake and the surrounding mountains. We have especially enjoyed such fantastic features as sauna (Finnish+ infrared) and the private access to the lake. A cozy green lawn, bathing facility, an apple-tree and sporadic visits of a swan-family have made our stay in this hotel especially enjoyable.
The whole city of Hallstatt is an artificially inflated advertising bubble (thanks to the quite questionable UNESCO program "World Cultural Heritage"). It is overcrowded by foreign tourists (by and and large non-European ones), mostly just one-day visitors, who are brought there by large buses and taken away the same evening. As a result, the prices in the city are really inflated and quality of offered services is considerably below the Austrian standards (ranging from the low quality of food to the generally overprized meals, accommodations, unfriendly parking policy. etc.) It is absolutely clear that we will not be ever returning to this location and would not recommend it to any of our friends.

Everything was perfect about this place. I thought that having a shared bathroom would be an inconvenience but it was not because we were the only ones using it. The host was very welcoming and she showed us some atractions we could attend to while we stayed there. We had a breakfast on the last day and it was perfect. We had our check-out at 10:00 am and our train was scheduled for 13:07 but the host agreed to keep our luggage untill we were ready to pick them up. They also had a garden connected to the lake where we could swim and a sauna but unfortunately we could not attend because we only booked 2 nights and had to spend our time visiting. Overall a great experience. Will surely book in here if we come again.

Isabelle was very helpful with directions on how to get to the hotel with a taxi/shuttle from the city parking lot and also very helpful with suggestions on activities in the area. She even did a small load of laundry for us which was really helpful after a week of traveling. Sauna and a swim in the lake was a nice bonus.

Everything! Pension Sarstein is located in the begining of Hallstat which makes it very convenient to reach with the car. The hosts are amazing, they gave us instructions even before we arrive, then they picked us up from the entrance of Halstat and allowed to enter for free. Our room had an amazing lake view (that's why we visit this place, right?), very quiet , you can literally hear nothing while you are there. Traditional breakfast , not many choices, but the view and the place is so nice that you don't care so much about the food. Everything was very clean, sauna was great and the best part is that Pension Sarstein is the only place where you can chill in the garden in front of the lake. You cannot do that in any other hotel in Halstat. Also, the swans visit that place often! We will definitely come back :)
We liked everything but just make sure that you are not searching for luxury when visiting this place. It is a traditional place.
Also, when visiting Hallstatt have in mind that there are not many options for food (very limited choices and most of them are really bad).

Perfect location !!! The scenery from bedroom is soooo nice. you will have your own balcony which is definitely beautiful in the morning when you wake up. Nearby the boat station that travel from train station. I really recommended.

1.Spectacular view! Right by the lake! It made me as being in the landscape.
2.Quiet especially at night. The location is far away from noisy tourists. The only sound I heard at night came from the swan.
3.The owners are very helpful and friendly. They sent photos of the arrival route in advance by email. These prevented me from getting lost.
4.In the above email they also clearly mentioned the content and price of breakfast. I enjoyed my breakfast by the lake, and the food they provide is healthy and nutritious.
5.It’s my pleasure to live in a house full of history. The wooden balcony and stairs bring me to the past.
I won't say these are disadvantages, but here are what you need to know before booking. If you don’t accept it, please vacate the room for me :)
1.There is no Wifi in the room so enjoy nature.
2.It’s not far from the ferry port, and you can see the house on the ferry. However, if you choose to drive or take a bus, you have to go through almost the entire town.
3.There is no elevator, and as mentioned above about transportation, it is not suitable for carrying heavy luggage.
4.You may encounter a rainy day or huge tourists. The owners can’t control these, but they are always very patient in giving advice and providing best.

One word. Perfect. Friendly owners that never stopped helping and guiding us around the area. The room was incredibly clean, comfy and quiet. Last but not least the spectacular view outside the balcony. I enjoyed every bit of my stay with no qualms to return again.

We stayed at Pension Sarstein for two nights. The pension is located right on the lake with a private deck for relaxing and sunbathing. The view is beautiful and the room was very comfortable. The hosts are so nice and helped us a lot in excursion tips and restaurant recommendations. We borrowed bicycles (free of charge) from the pension and had a lovely trip around the town and surrounding area. We highly recommend a stay at Sarstein and a couple of days at least around Hallstatt.
The mattress was too soft for my liking, causing some back aches. Towels are a tad bit aged.

We liked everything!
For a start, Pension Sarstein is located only 50 meters walking from the famous view point over the town of Hallstatt, and about 250 meters from the town center by foot.
You do not have a view of the town from the premises, but the views of the lake and surrounding mountains definitely make up for it.
We were very well received by Isabelle, who gave us all the information needed for a great stay, and recommended us visits, places to see and restaurants.
She and her husband Klaus take very good care of the property, and it is a delight to lounge in the garden, take a swim in the lake or sit on your balcony and just enjoy the view.
For a little fee you can have your laundry washed, you can borrow bikes or enjoy the sauna on a rainy day.
We rented an appartment with 2 bedrooms, a toilet and a bathroom, and a kitchen/living room with all necessities. It was clean, spacious and functional and we even got a fresh set of towels and dish clothes mid-stay.
We highly recommend Pension Sarstein when staying in Hallstatt!
There is very little not to like!
The only discomfort for us would be the pillows, but that is a personnal preference, not a minus point for Pension Sarstein.
It's also worth noting that there's only wifi in the common area, so depending on where your room is located, you may have very little to no wifi in the room. As well, no internet/Netflix on the TV, but we could perfectly deal with that.

I fall in love in this place. I would live there without leaving our hotel. They have everything you need + great atmosphere. The owners of the hotel are so helpful, so cute people. What can i say more, the place was the best. I can not even find any single poor point to mention.

Fantastic location and accommodation with lake view. Owners are very friendly. Few minutes walk to the centre and popular view point. If you want, breakfast can be served for 8 euro's. And sauna is free of charge when you stay for a couple of nights. We had a wonderful stay here!
