Great property in a fantastic setting, we loved it and will be back.

Great location with fantastic grounds and surroundings. Very friendly and helpful hosts.

WiFi in room was poor but this was unimportant to us but might be concern for others.

A pleasant weekend in an interesting part of New Zealand.

The property had a large garden of mature trees that occupied the area enclosed by a river in an amazingly contorted bendy canyon. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.

The garden was a little further from Stratford than I expected. Our experience was not helped by an initial misdirection by Google maps.

Great place to stay when visiting Moun Taranaki

What a beautiful place! It felt like being in an african lodge. The accomodation was great and Amanda a lovely host. Everything, including breakfast and dinner was perfect. The lodge ist located in the hills close to Stratford, with spectacular views on Mount Taranaki from Croydon Road.

Lovely surprise with Large African-themed gardens and rooms. Good dinner ann breakfast at reasonable prices. Country location. Large room and beds very comfortable.

Superb

I was greeted by Amanda who exudes genuine friendliness and very helpful. Was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at the location and felt like I was in the garden of Eden with the sound of many birds echoing their song through the bush. There are many surprising little paths that led to amazing open spaces, gardens, bridges, with African animal statues dotted around the property. Each one has information to educate you on the species, age, size, survival rate. There is a fairy garden and playground created for children's imagination to run wild. Pathways lead you off to the unexpected. The room was clean, tidy with everything I needed to accommodate preparing light meals. The bed was so comfortable, and I was very grateful to sink my tired body after a busy day in the township. The best shower I've had in a long time. The environment alone is revitalising. If you want peace, tranquility and love gardens, bush and everything creative and different then I would recommend Te Popo. I did not stay the weekend therefore did not get to experience the open cafe. If you're wanting to be close to town and amenities, then I would recommend you find something in town otherwise take this time to really ground yourself, appreciate nature and the amazing hard work this couple have created for others to enjoy. My stay was everything I could of wished for however the room is not that soundproof. Can be tolerable if your understanding of young children.. :)

Beautiful location in a nice garden, perfect stop before or after the Forgotten world highway! Very lovely and attentive hosts, as well as very nicely designed rooms in African/animal design...

Exceptional

Amanda and Les were two of the best hosts you could possibly ask for - friendly, welcoming and great company. Good location - a strange but great mix of NZ and South African and fantastic gardens, too. We loved it and would happily stay there again. :-)

Location was remote and peaceful. Stayed for a wedding held close by but would return for a weekend get-away. Charming.

Weather particularly stormy and wet so didn't get to explore what appeared to be a beautiful garden. Enjoyed a lovely evening meal.

Due to storm our fire would not function and the building had sprung a few leaks.

We were concerned about the absence of smoke alarms in the whole apartment. It was great to be able to make a fire and so we did. However, our daughter's bed was right next to the fire place and got pretty hot.

Just what you need if you need to get away from it all and relax

Amanda is just so helpful, the owners have a real love for the place and it shows, it's just such a cool, interesting and relaxing environment. Heaps to do, or not. Amanda will ask if there's anything else to help make the stay better, but there wasn't for us. It was exactly what we needed. Thanks again guys.

Nothing, apart from it being so cold in Taranaki, but can't blame them for that. No cell reception for my phone, but that's not their fault either.

TePopo Taranaki

Lovely gardens and really nice hosts, quite passionate about what they do. The room is large and very comfortable, sparkling clean and with everything you need (and more). Breakfast was very good too!

The blanket was thin and it was a bit cold at night. There was another blanket available but it probably had not been used all summer and smelled a bit funny - I would have preferred a duvet. It would have been nice to have some extra wood to put in the burner at night (although I'm sure we'd have been given it if we'd asked!).

Tranquil, magical, extremely restful

Nature lovers seeking tranquility will adore Te Popo Gardens & Accommodation. Amanda & Les are the most natural & genuine hosts who have created something very unique with super cosy, restful & brilliantly themed rooms set in acres of amazing woodland gardens. The feeling in the gardens is of utter protected peace, even the ground feels soft and gentle, it was such a joy to be able to walk through the gardens in bare feet, hear & see Kereru (native wood pigeon) & Tuis. Swinging on the wisteria covered swing while cute fantails flitted about me as I gazed on two life size African elephant sculptures that looked perfectly at home amidst the trees in the garden was a special moment for me. There is no mobile phone reception so it was easy to switch off & sink deeply into the peaceful atmosphere & relaxation.
