Sitting at an elevation of nearly 7400’ and nestled between over 600’ of Florida River frontage and the foot of a mountain, this property is Colorado at its finest. This amazing, 3.65-acre property enjoys supreme privacy in the heart of the valley surrounded by two large acreage ranches and is just 8 miles to Main Street in Durango.
You will arrive at the property on all paved roads and pass over a private bridge to get to the home. The home is set up as two separate, self-contained living areas totaling 3971 sf. (separated by a common walls). Each side has its own kitchen, living room, bedrooms, baths, fireplace and laundry. You can book one side, or, for larger groups or ultimate privacy you can reserve both sides.
For the purposes of this web listing, we are required to list each one separately. This listing is for the "Bear House"...a 2-story side (2 bedroom). The listing for the 3 bedroom side (the "Trout House") is VRBO listing #1652431.
The 2 bedroom option features an open kitchen, dining and family room layout with 2 guest bedrooms on the second floor. This side can easily accommodate 7 guests (master has a king bed, bedroom 2 has three single beds and there is a pullout sofa). There is a bath on each of the floors and laundry on the first floor. There is a river rock fireplace and the kitchen is fully equipped. There is approximately 2,000 sf so plenty of room to spread out.
NOTE: The other side features single level living with a large master suite (with jetted tub), 2 additional guest rooms and a 2nd full bath. Relax on one of two porches that overlook the river.

Beautiful setting. Architecturally unique design. Well equipped house that can sleep 5-6 and plenty of family space to keep them happy. Windows down in the summer with river rushing and waterfall sounds made summer nights in fifties exceptionally great sleeping. A beautifully landscape with a river running through was incredible. It was within an hour of many other great places!

My husband, myself, & my two college age children stayed for a week. This house was perfect for our needs. We enjoyed the trout stream and the close location to Durango. The hosts provided all the essentials as well as helpful notes. We would definitely stay here again!

We had a wonderful stay at The Bear House and can’t wait to return. This home is like Heaven on Earth and is absolutely beautiful grounds. We loved putting the windows up and listening to the river out front, playing croquet and Farkle on the lawn. We are so thankful to have found this place. Everything is just as described and it was perfect for our Colorado getaway to cooler temps. Can not say enough good things. Loved this place!!!

We had a wonderful stay at this home. It had plenty of space inside and the property is gorgeous. We played games outside by the river and just enjoyed the breathtaking views all around us. It was an easy 15-minute drive into Durango for grocery shopping and restaurants.

We rented both houses for our family of 9. It was a wonderful place to make a lifetime of memories. The houses are beautifully stocked for downtime when you’re not seeing the sites around the area. Games to play, peaceful scenery, and great fishing were the highlights. The owners are also exceptional at communicating with you and it’s very clear they want you to enjoy your stay. I highly recommend this property!

A comfortable, cozy home, plenty of room to enjoy family dinners in the kitchen and game nights in front of the fireplace. Thanks Nick for making our first white Christmas ever so pleasant! The kitchen was well stocked with basics, and the wood burning fireplace kept us cozy in the evenings. The property was beautiful, especially in the snow. Nick was very responsive to any questions, and checked in with us to be sure we had everything we needed We felt like this was truly home away from home.

This was our second stay at this property and we enjoyed it so much. The house and linens were clean and there is everything you could need in the kitchen. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and spacious. We stayed with some friends who occupied the larger side and it was great being there together, but also having privacy. The grounds are well maintained and the kids and adults alike enjoyed exploring and playing. The fall weather was perfect and we can’t wait to visit again next year!

Superb. We stayed in the Bear Cabin for 10 days. The property is just idyllic. The river running right through the vast front yard was so soothing, and my partner enjoyed quite a bit of flyfishing. The home was well appointed with everything you could possibly need. I had a few questions for Nick, the host, and he always answered quickly and was extremely helpful. We will definitely be back!

We loved staying here. The property was beautiful. We were in the one side alone for a few days but when another family showed up next door we barely noticed. Plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the space peacefully. Everything worked properly and was very clean. The hosts provided most things we needed. We loved being able to prepare our own food and wash our clothes before heading home. The kitchen was stocked with lots of pots and pans, dishes, etc. Beds were comfortable. The daytime temperatures were in the 90's and we were plenty cool at night to sleep. We would love to stay again.

This was our third year staying at this place and it was great again. We do have one small complaint. We did not have TV and most of the time we had to switch from the new River House Wi-Fi to the old Wi-Fi to have any internet service.

Perfect Getaway
Perfect getaway just outside of town. Close enough to wander in, but far enough out for some solitude. And access to the Florida River is a definite bonus. Nick and Caryn are great hosts with everything you need including some treats and games.

This cabin was exactly as the listing stated. It felt so cozy and the views are amazing. We brought all of our children ages from 8 to 19 and everyone had things to do to relax without electronics. It’s far enough from town to feel secluded but close enough to run grab dinner. It was clean and the host have a wonderful little book on the coffee table with lots of information on the cabin and the area. The kitchen is stocked with all the necessities to cook a nice meal and the beds are comfortable.

Beautiful property - perfect fall getaway!
This property was so gorgeous - we had so much fun exploring, and playing lawn games (provided by owner). We were so lucky to get to see amazing Fall colors this late in the season, and it just made this location even more spectacular. We come to Durango often to visit our daughter, who is a student at Fort Lewis College. Most of the time we stay in town, but this time, I wanted to venture more towards the hills - and we couldn't have picked a better property. Nick was so responsive to every question, and the home had everything we needed. We cooked several meals in the kitchen which was very well equipped, and we ventured to town for a couple of meals which was only a short ten minute drive. Our wifi connection was stable, which good because I had to get some school work done while there, and we enjoyed watching a Thursday night Bronco game on the big TV in the family room. Our daughter graduates soon, so not as much reason to come to this part of our beautiful state, but we decided that this beautiful home would make us want to come back even when she leaves FLC. Would definately recommend!

A Mountain Treasure
It was basically perfect. The river running through the property, fully loaded kitchen. Comfortable furniture and outdoor tables and chairs. The owners thought of everything. They even included charcoal for the grill.
