Highly recommended hotel stay

A great hotel in a peaceful location, modern rooms added to a historic building. Wonderful staff throughout. Very comfortable, large, modern room with excellent facilities. The breakfast served in the brasserie was excellent.

The cost was higher than I normally pay but good for what we got

Posh and state of the art hotel,pure excellence

It looked like a boutique hotel so exquisite and posh. I've stayed in many hotels but this one was different. The hotel are so eco friendly that even the room key is made of wood. The packaging for things in the room are environmentally friendly. The bathroom was so lush. I had an amazing bubble bath 2 nights in a row, felt like it was a spa. The room decor was state of the art and the surroundings were peaceful. I'm a university of Essex Alumni so it was nice to go to the campus with my family and reminisce on a decade ago of life on campus. I would definitely stay again. Also to add the amazing cot they had for my baby, it had wheels how genius! Much better than the cot in the last hotel I stayed in which was linen over a board in a cheap style travel cot. This hotel exudes excellence and I highly recommend.

The floorboards are creaky so you could hear noise from room above even though ceiling is high.

The cleanliness, condition of furnishings and pleasantness of the room were all exceptional. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom furnishing and shower were faultless. Parking is convenient. The staff were very attentive and welcoming.

Hearing the air control units buzzing away through the night would have prevented a good nights sleep if I didn't always travel with ear plugs. Not a fan of coffee bags!

Check in was great, despite the lovely girl that checked us in being trained and we all have to learn. However the room key didn’t work even after second attempt and a fair trek back and forth to it. The room really was perfect, cosy comfy beautiful views the balcony was fabulous. The Brasserie had a super atmosphere for drinks with local family and breakfast there this morning was fantastic. A love stay and will definitely return Thank you.

The surprising racism at the reception desk. my partner and I are a mixed race couple - but not sure why we were asked if we were checking into separate rooms. That’s never happened in the entire time we’ve been together!

Rooms were lovely and the staff were brilliant. We got bespoke cocktails and blankets so we could sit outside. Grounds are beautiful.

Nice room, shame about the restaurant

Spacious room, very clean, comfortable bed, chairs. Good breakfast.

The restaurant was dismal. We waited nearly an hour for our starters to arrive after ordering. The waiters had a "don't care" attitude and appeared to suggest we were being unreasonable in expecting starters to arrive in under an hour. The food, when it did finally arrive, was variable: some dishes were OK, others were not or were not what we ordered. By that time there was no point complaining again and risking another hour's delay: were were just glad to finally get something and get out. Never again.

We'd definitely stay at again! What better recommendation is there!

The view from the balcony...yes we had a balcony. I didn't expect that at all. The grounds are excellent too, set on the grounds of a University, you could easily be in the middle of the countryside.
