Elegant Hotel in Cultural part of town.

The Hotel itself was beautiful, very clean and very well appointed. We had breakfast in the Cloisters room with our order prepared fresh from the menu and was very nice - the orange and pear juice were freshly squeezed also.

On checkin they said that they had upgraded us from the standard King Room we booked. However the room (No 7) they gave us - although well appointed - had one small single window that was frosted at the bottom so the room needed lights all the time. ( I could see why when on a chair to look out of the top window - below were all the air conditioning ducts - very unsightly. the window was very difficult to open to get some fresh air in - the room was very hot during the night so not a comfortable sleep. Air conditioning did not help to make it cooler so we turned it off. For the price we paid I felt it was a very poor room.

Really comfortable and outstanding food and service

the room and bathroom were a cut above. And the food in the restaurant was 5 star. Staff very friendly and courteous.

the only thing and this is scraping the bottom of the barrelwas that i couldnt find the access to your hotel easily. i had to drive around a bit and that took a lot of time.

Another great stay

The breakfast is fantastic. We got upgraded when we checked in, and the room was a great size with a huge bathroom, which had everything we needed. The complimentary mini bar was a nice touch, as was good quality coffee in the rooms.

The bedroom decor was a bit tired and the floor could have been cleaner.

Sleigh bed & copper bathtub added to total relaxation!

I loved having a room with a sleigh bed & copper bathtub. It was all very tastefully decorated. The staff were lovely as usual. I went to see the exhibitions at Firstsite right opposite & saw 2 artworks on display done by someone I knew years ago, which was a nice surprise-GreyFriars is so handy for lots of Colchester’s attractions.

Can’t think of anything. They do everything so well there!

Welcoming and comfortable. Highly reccomended.

Location ideal in centre of town, next door to the Colchester Castle. Very high standard of service and food.

Combining the great feel of a historic building with all modern facilities.

Very nice hotel, excellent food both in the restaurant and in the bar.

The sausage on the breakfast not to my taste they had a smokey flavour. But this is a personal thing my husband loved them. The emergency light in the room was so bright again a personal thing.

Carpets in the room grubby, shower head gummed up with limescale, torn curtain in 16. Otherwise fine.

Superb

The air conditioning in the room was excellent. The staff at breakfast were exemplary, couldn’t fault anything. They greeted us as we entered the room, explained the process for ordering and nothing was too much trouble. We had a few different choices of breakfast & all were well presented and delicious so well done also to the kitchen staff. The room was spotlessly clean. There was ample car parking.

The reception staff could have been more welcoming. The view from the room wasn’t good - an internal courtyard containing what looked the a boiler room. The second room had no view as there was film over the window. The lack of an occasional chair in the room..

Great place as a base for exploring the attractions nearby.

Great breakfast , great staff. Secure parking in in a city centre is always welcome. Found the free bar in the room a bonus, ideal when you just wanted a quick drink.

we have stayed here a few times before cause location of the property is amazing the cleanliness and the staff are all amazing very friendly place and they always happy to help

as I said we have stayed here three time but this time I would definitely say it was out worse yes the place is lovely and clean and the staff are amazing but the room we stayed it the carpet was all thread and sticking up their was thins missing that we emailed about before and the shower had two setting and one didn’t work

An enjoyable stay

The hotel was easy to find and the staff were all helpful. The breakfast was delicious with a wide selection available. Great location for visiting the castle.

The room was very small. The room (10), was also noisy, we heard a door opening and closing frequently. We also had noise from guests outside.

Colchester weekend

Location is perfect, staff excellent. Food was good and the building is lovely.

The room was slightly smaller than I had hoped and I would have loved a bath.

Fantastic hotel in a great location with splendid food!

All of the food was wonderful at the hotel, the reception staff were extremely helpful and accommodating.

The heating/air conditioning system was very slow to kick in so our room got very hot which made it impossible to get a restful sleep. The bed was a little firm.

Lovely old building, properly updated and with delightful staff.

Clean & well-appointed rooms. ALL staff were friendly, polite & helpful. Particularly enjoyed breakfast & afternoon tea.

Not much, small hiccup with early check-in otherwise exemplary.

Wonderful stay! Room 17 - Vinoly Suite. Bathroom is exceptional. Service was first class. Communication with the hotel prior to our arrival was excellent. Beautiful hotel. Highly recommended.
