Our 4 night stay at The Great Western was most enjoyable with excellent meals and very helpful staff

On our arrival we were very warmly welcomed by Nadine who offered us tea while she spoke to us about the hotel and the railway memorabilia. She also helped us with our luggage. The breakfast was excellent. I had the full english, and my wife had a vegetarian option that was very enjoyable. Served efficiently by James who looked after our needs very well. On our first night we had dinner in the hotel and again this was a very enjoyable meal , I enjoyed seeing all the railway models in the restaurant and bar areas.

The rooms were rather dated. We stayed in the Paddington Room , a lovely spacious room, but more attention to small details would have made it better. My wife did need to ask for a bathroom mat. We understand that plans are in hand for a refurbishment of the rooms during the winter.

Okay, but not quite what we had hoped for.

Great location and friendly hosts. Good sized bathroom and bedroom. Clean room.

Despite the name of the hotel, it didn't occur to us that it was a train themed hotel! Fortunately, the theme was contained to the lobby and dining room. Very dated and mismatched decor, but the worst thing was the strong musty smell throughout the hotel, probably from the old carpets. Nothing about the room was 'delux' despite the description. I'd hate to see a 'regular' room! The bath was stained. The plug in the sink didn't seal, so the water had to be run continuously. The front garden path to the road was overgrown, making walking through the arch slightly challenging, so we walked around the back instead. Mostly small issues that could easily be overcome with a little effort. Overall, we were a bit disappointed.

Very satisfying accommodation!

Great location! A short walk from the bus/train stations, and a stone's throw from the shore. I was delighted to be able to walk barefoot on the sand of the beach, and found restaurants nearby to satisfy my vegetarian diet. There are also shops a short walk away for drinking water and snacks. Kathy and Richard are wonderful hosts—genial, accommodating and helpful. I was very happy to have discovered their hotel and will book again when the occasion arises

Lovely place to stay in Paignton.

The guest house is in a great location, super close to the centre, the beach, the station & only a short walk from the nearest bus stop. Kathy and Richard was so welcoming and friendly and the only problem we had whilst we stayed there was resolved super quickly by them. Would highly recommend to others to stay here, also the beds are super comfortable!
