Charming river lodge

What a wonderful lodge - beautiful property right on the river with a view of Popa Falls. We stayed one night in the tents and two nights in the chalets - both were great, with the chalets being slightly more elevated. What really made this stay special was the staff, everyone is incredibly kind and helpful. We particularly were impressed with Matthew who gave us great recommendations about driving Bwabwata and other facts about the lodge, the area and the animals. Frank our sunset boat driver was also great. Highly recommend the sunset boat cruise - great relaxing way to end a long day. We hope to be back soon!

in general we enjoyed our stay and would return

very comfortable and clean . staff were helpful and always cheerful

food which forms part of the half board could be improved although it was not bad. Meat was a bit tough but the fish was very good. perhaps a vegetarian option could be introduced so one could see it on the menu (although the staff mentioned that we could arrange this if we would like.)

Perfect location, very quiet right at the Kavango river with of the Popa Falls. Top Gamedrive in Bwabwata National Park with one of the owners. A real great family business dedicated to nature conservation and involvement of the local people.

Beautiful rooms and tents with views of the Okavango River and Popa Falls, great pool and bar area, very friendly and helpful staff, good food and a very nice sundowner cruise on the river and at the falls.

Second stay, the hot water ran out in the AM after my wife had taken her shower.

This was our third visit to Shametu and it did not disappoint! We have camped before in the fantastic campsites but this time opted for a tented chalet on the river. Beautiful spacious accommodation with the HUGE bonus of zircon. We stayed on a half board basis and the food was very good. Great choice of wines too! We took one of our breakfasts on the river at a small extra charge. Well worth it! Tranquil with sightings of hippo, crocodile and a myriad of birds all pointed out to us by our excellent guide.

I have no suggestions for improvement.

We will be back!

Perfect location. Everything was great. We enjoyed very much the sundown tour and the gamedrive ( great guide).

The problem is that when there are not much guests, the staff working in the restaurant has nothing to do but staring at you while having breakfast or diner. We didn’t feel comfortable with this situation. The wifi is very bad, for travelers who need to look up things, that’s very unhandy.

Attention for detail. Chalets looking out over the river (ours did, make sure to ask for this as there are also rooms that have a garden view). Good veg menu. Very large bed.

A very good, clean hotel with helpful and polite staff. Both breakfast and dinner were very good. The room was big and it had parking in the premices.

The swimming pool was very small and it had internet only in the common areas.

On the River, with nice well tended grounds. Community viewing platform was comfortable Good food!

Glasses and bottles were left far too long on tables outside, and not cleared away for new guests to sit at. Clean swimming pool.

schöne Anlage. the Management is doing a good job providing good services. a lot of staff in the compound.

1. Family chalet the fence is broken in a few places so that the village children can peep into the room, sometimes even asking for things. but the Management said they are planning to build a wall. 2. River view Tent the tent is very hot during the day and very cold in the morning. There is air conditioning but we didn’t switch it on so that I caught a very bad cold there. also the tent is already a bit dated. the big sofa looks also not very nice in the tent. we will for sure book a Chalet if there is another time. it seems to me Chalets 1-4 with River views are quite nice.

WiFi was bad. Since we were there for work we needed wifi. Sending an e-mail took for ages. We have stayed in very remote places and had much better wifi.

Great, spacious lodge right on the Okovango River

One of the most impressive things at Shametu are the very friendly staff members, they made my stay more than comfortable. The area of the Lodge is very warm-hearted and spacious, a pool, two bars, a lounge, the restaurant area, a nice view to the Okawango River. The food was very delicious, and a boat cruise on the Okavango River is truly recommended. It is chilling, informative, and you enjoy a nice finish at the nearby located Popa Falls, where you leave the boat for some nice picture-spots. Some of them on some bigger rocks that are lying into the river, others on the bank, where you maybe are lucky and find a crocodile chilling on a sand bank.

When booking ask for a chalet in the first row to the river, these ones offer a terrace directly at the river bank, so you can enjoy this fantastic view and atmosphere from your room, what is very much better than a chalet in the 2nd row.

great location, great experience

Overall, the lodge can be very much recommended. We enjoyed a river chalet. The interior was spotlessly clean and functional. The bathroom was a bit older but in perfect condition. The view was magnificent. Staff was very friendly and helpful - 10/10. The river cruise including Pops Falls (with a highly knowledgeable guide) was a wonderful experience. Food was delicious (breakfast and dinner) although there was a bit of room for improvement on the steak and the breakfast yogurt - 9/10.

The room could have - as a standard- adapters for European plugs. The food could be a bit more exquisite (for the price). Nonetheless, a clear recommendation.
