It was such an unforgettable experience stay for our first visit to Japan and first time experiencing traditional ryokan with natural onsen in such beautiful setting. Everything had exceeded our expectations! We travelled from Tokyo by Shinkansen to Minowa, then took a local train to Shuzenji before taking a local bus to the ryokan. From bus stop it was only a 5 minutes walk down the hill before we found the ryokan nested right along the stream. The place was in a beautiful setting, proper Japanese countryside. Staff were welcoming and they spoke very good English. We had a traditional style room with futon and tatami with a balcony right next to the stream. Everything in the room was functional, clean and spacious. The free yukata was awesome! We were wearing them throughout our stay, super comfy. The 10 course meal by the river was exceptional, every dish tasted fresh and delicious. It's definitely worth reserving a table and dine at the ryokan for the full experience. There were 4 private hot spring baths, of which we tried all of them. They were amazing! 1 was indoor, 2 outdoor and 1 simi-indoor. They also had communal baths separated by gender but since we went there as a couple we didn't try them, only private ones. You scan the QR code to check if they are vacant and you simply just go in if they are free. The place was so peaceful and tranquil we wish we could stay longer.

Such friendly staff, stunning rooms and idiclic scenery. Wish we stayed more nights! Topped it off that we actually got engaged to marry on our stay here :)

Best Ryokan ever ! This place is stunning and our bedroom with the private onset was amazing !

Great onsen and incredible workers who spoke very great English. There weren’t many people so we got to try all the onsen even though we only stayed one night. QR scanner to see availability of onsen was incredibly helpful and much appreciated. I assure you the food is nothing like you have ever had before, absolutely delicious! Felt like we were able to have our own little slice of Japan all to ourself and was truly a magical experience.
A bit difficult to get to for 1st timers, but not impossible and very much worth the adventure.

The location is beautiful. Service is discrete and professional as expected. Nice outdoor onsen and a beutiful restaurant space just next to the riverside
The room seemed to have serious moisture management issues, and it smelled like mold - as did the first floor corridor. As a result, all of our clothes that spent a full day in the room smelled really un-fresh. For the price of the stay, this was really disappointing - especially since the ryokan is otherwise rather nice with outdoor onsen and the riverside restaurant.

The dinner was excellent and the surrounding forest was so beautiful to hike around. The hot baths were also amazing. Overall a great experience, delicious food, and a relaxing stay.

Sophisticated charm & relaxing vibes

Private onsens were very nice. Breakfast was good and the scenery lovely. The staff were very accommodating.
There could be fresh towels at all the onsens. The online availability checker only worked properly on one phone. Also if you are tall, mind your head while in your room.

Food was excellent-both in terms of quality and variety.
We had our meals next to a river, able to enjoy our food and enjoy nature at the same time.
They have 4 private onsen for you to choose from, plus a public onsen.
There are nice waterfalls within minutes by car, and we also took a walk around the neighbourhood.
Restaurant staff recommended some places of interest and they were nice!
Room looks a bit old and in need of renovation

I really enjoyed the ambience and nature, as well as the natural spring baths.

exceptional meal. private Onsens perfect for couples to use together. rushing river is awesome
it’s a bit out of the way. it took us a 30 minute train ride from Mishima then a 49 minute bus ride and a ten minute walk. but it was worth it. have your luggage forwarded from your previous hotel for around $20 per suitcase and enjoy travelling light

Excellent dining and onsen experience
We sent 4 emails (3 in English and 1 in Japanese) to the hotel via booking.com to request for delay check-out from 10am to 11am for 1 room (we reserved 2 rooms) but received no response. We made the same request during check-in and was told that one hour's extension for 1 room will incur a charge of Yen1100, to this we agreed. I think that the hotel should reply to email prior to check-in.

The room is close to a river so it was very peaceful and there're lots of trees around. The food is really good and the staffs are very kind. I highly recommend this place.

The baths, which include the gender segregated big bath and four private baths, three of which are outdoors, are a highlight, especially the outdoor ones in the bamboo grove. No reservations are required for the private baths, but they have a website you can check to see if the bath is in use. Wifi is accessible across the premises, so accessing this is easily done.
If you opt for on premises dining (and you should!), you will dine on the terrace, overlooking the river. Food, like most ryokans, focus on local seasonal ingredients. With the area famous for wasabi cultivation, expect this ingredient to make an appearance and open your eyes to what it can do!
Rooms were spacious and comfortable.
Getting here is probably not going to be easy, as this is out in the countryside. You will eventually need to take a bus (or taxi or drive) to get to Tatsuta. Staff were very good, but you may struggle if you don't speak any Japanese.
If you don't like insects, you might find yourself freaking out, especially when by the riverside.
Rooms use the hot spring water for the hot water tap; this may mean the hot water in your room may take some time to arrive.
All minor things here, and no real complaints on the experience.

I loved the interior design of the place. The breakfast next to the water was amazing!
I went on the wrong train from Tokyo to the ryokan so I had a very long detour. But other than that it was very nice.

Our first ryokan.
Good parking
Staff were amazing. We are bad and don't know any Japanese but the staff spoke some English and used their phone to translate when needed.
Food was so fun, very Japanese and we loved it. The scenery was even better. You eat right beside a river with these heated tables...so awesome.
Our room: perfect.

great experience to relax during the weekend: delicious meals surrounded by soothing sound of the river and warmed by kotatsu, intercalated by visits to private onsen rooms. excellent service and kind feedback to requests.

near Joren Falls. reasonably priced
heater couldn’t be converted to cooler air. curtains can be block outs so that light doesn’t come through.
