Welcome to "South Shore"! Our goal is to provide our guests with a 5 star experience from beginning to end. So far we have been able to do this by providing great communication, accurate photography, thoughtful amenities, technology, cleanliness, location, quality construction, but most importantly Southern friendliness.

The Location:
This impeccably maintained cottage is located on South Shore Drive in Surf City just about a mile south of the high rise bridge. This location allows for easy access on and off the island while also providing a bit of distance from the central business district. South Shore Drive is unique on Topsail Island for many reasons. It is close to the bridge, dining, shopping and groceries. It also offers a residential "board walk" off the main road. This 2 mile "board walk", or secondary road, has a 25 mph speed limit and offers the perfect place for a nice walk or morning run. Another advantage to 1021 South Shore is its proximity to a beach access about 150' (or three lots) to the South. And the property is one of the larger lots on the island that includes quite a few majestic maritime live oaks, that are rare among residential properties around here.
The House:
The house was chosen for its traditional beach cottage style. It has three bedrooms downstairs with a large living/dining/kitchen area as well as a large loft upstairs. The three bedrooms on the main level will be 1 King, 1 King and 1 Queen, the loft area has 4 Twins. The house has a total sleeping capacity of 10 people. In addition to the sleeping space upstairs there is a game nook with a foosball table, books and board games. Outside there is a large porch on the street side with both covered and open space. In the backyard there is a large pool with a slide and plenty of area to lounge, grill and enjoy time with friends and family. If you are a fisherman and would like to bring your boat to the island, South Shore is located 1 mile from the public boat ramp, and our driveway can easily accommodate up to a 30' boat/trailer. If you like to fish in the ocean, the boat ramp is roughly 8 miles via the ICWW from Topsail Inlet.
We have tried to make the house appealing to families and have included amenities we enjoy when we travel, to include beach chairs, two beach cruisers, and even a second refrigerator in the pantry.
Us:
We are not new to VRBO, feel free to review our property ID 916178 in downtown Wilmington, NC. We have learned from that experience that tenants are happiest when you provide a clean home, simple, yet well thought out furnishings, comfortable beds, a robust WIFI system, and a well stocked kitchen. We can also offer two local business references at 50 South Surf Shop and Herrings Outdoor. Both businesses are well established on the island and know our family well. We have also used VRBO in our travels and we feel like we know what most travelers expect from a vacation property.
And as far as our ties to Topsail, our extended family has had a strong presence on the island since the 1950's. Tay grew up across the street on the oceanfront side of the road at 1020 South Shore Drive, and his parents still own the property. And Becky & Tay got married on the South End of the island at Emma Anderson chapel in the 90's. Furthermore, we live 20 minutes away on the mainland so we definitely feel that we know the area and will be ideal hosts for your stay!
***Trip Protection*** We feel so strongly about trip protection during the Atlantic hurricane season(June 1st to November 30th) that with a seven day rental and a proof of purchase at the end of your stay we will provide a $100 refund. And if you are staying less than a seven day rental during the hurricane season, we highly encourage you to purchase trip protection through VRBO or your preferred third party vendor. Trip protection will be offered to you via VRBO once your booking is complete. Please accept Trip Protection.
***Fees*** A quick note about the number of fees renters are required to pay on VRBO. We are keenly aware that the amount and quantity of fees add up quickly on a vacation rental. But most of them are out of our control. The "service fee" is set by VRBO and the taxes are set by the state, county, and city. The cleaning fee and the linen fee are set by our vendors and represent the exact amount that we are charged. We feel both of our vendors are the best on the island. The "Property Fee" is a refundable excessive cleaning deposit and is there to protect us from intentional damage. Unfortunately, over the years we have had two renters on our properties where we have had to withhold a portion of this deposit.

After coming to Surf City for 12 years, our family has grown. This beautiful home accommodated the very young up to grandparents! The pool was a much needed bonus on days the beach was too windy or rough waters. The kitchen was well stocked and the extra refrigerator and large laundry room we much appreciated. Comfortable beds were an added bonus!

We had a fabulous stay. The house had plenty of amenities and the third floor room was great for the kids. Beach access is just a few houses away, making it very easy to go back and forth. The pool was nice and warm even in April. The home was cleaned and well-maintained. Thanks for a great stay.

Given the option to rent a house on the beach or this house across from the beach, the answer was unanimous. The pool wins! We enjoyed spending the day at the beach and winding down at the pool in the afternoon/evenings while grilling out. The house was just as clean and comfortable as we remembered it. The owner checked in on us and helped monitor Tropical Storm Idalia as it made its way through in the middle of our vacation. We only lost a day and a half at the beach for this, but had the most beautiful days following the storm. We love this house and plan to come back every summer.

Location was great - two minute walk to the public beach access.
Kids loved the pool. When the ocean was too rough or we had had enough of the beach, we would continue the water fun in the pool. The water slide was a big hit. Especially, with the water pump turned on.
Beds were comfortable. The kids liked the loft with the cubby holes for their stuffed animals and treasures and curtains for privacy. It was like sleeping in a cave for them.
We used the bikes provided as well as the beach chairs. It was nice not having to pack our own.

We enjoyed our stay immensely! The hosts were gracious and easy to work with. We love a beach home with a pool for evening swims between the witching hours of before and after dinner and this pool was one of the best. One of the beds is really, really high off the ground - like, very able-bodies adults had to launch their selves into it but all the mattresses were great. Will be booking again! Thanks!!

This property is 100% what you are looking for! Just a short 3 minute walk to the ocean. Games for the kids (board, video, ping pong, etc). One of the most relaxing and fun outdoor settings we’ve seen. Like your own oasis! Completely setup for your trips back from the beach (hoses, showers).
The kitchen is stocked with just about everything you will need! Plenty of space and beds are nice too!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and if we didn’t vacation at a different beach every year, We would definitely book another stay here.
A huge plus for us was the laid back area. It was very peaceful and still had enough for the kids (ice cream, shaved ice, shops, touch aquarium).
Definitely a five star review all the way around!

This was our second time staying at this property for our annual family beach trip. We love the salt water pool ~ one of the larger pools on the island! We also love the pristine condition of the home as well as its close proximity to the beach/ocean. We have already booked this home for our 2024 trip!

We come to Surf City/Topsail every year and this might be my favorite place yet. Having the pool is a must - the kiddos loved the slide! The house was very comfortable and having chairs and beach wagon there was super helpful. Would stay again for sure!

House was very nice. Kitchen equipped well, could have used a couple more dishcloths, toilet paper and paper towels. Ran out of all pretty quickly. Had to wash dish towels every day. Good cookware and plenty of sizes. Pool and grounds beautiful. Owner very prompt with any concerns. Would stay again.

My family and I just returned home after a fabulous week's vacation at this property. My two adult children, their spouses and 3 little ones (ages 2 and under) had a great time! The house was extremely clean, comfortable and well appointed. We loved the upstairs bunk and game room!
The short walk to the beach with the three little ones and all our gear was very easy since we were so close to the beach access point. It was so convenient (not to mention enjoyable) for the adults to enjoy the pool and backyard oasis while the little ones were down for their naps.
I was so impressed by information shared by the host, her responsiveness to my questions, the location, and the amenities of this rental property. 5 stars all around! We definitely will be returning.

This house had all we could need and more. We loved the location across from the beach and were able to ride bikes to dinner, ice cream, the pier, and the touch tank aquarium. We appreciated all the little touches the owner thought of. We would definitely stay again!

This property and it’s location made for the perfect Beach weekend for our family. We were two adults and three children and everyone had an amazing time. The beach access was a short walk, and the beach was pristine. Coming home, dropping our stuff under the house, showering in the outdoor shower, and then lounging in the pool until dinner. We all slept like babies in the comfy beds and plenty of space for us all. The kitchen was well appointed, we stayed in for our meals. Instacart delivered groceries from Publix! We are definitely planning another stay here.

The house was well set up with everything we needed and more. The pool was a lovely way to hang out around the house. There was plenty of space to cook and eat meals together. The outdoor deck provided the opportunity to have peaks of the ocean and listen to the waves.

This property is perfect for our family vacation. We have 4 adults and 3 grand boys. We all have plenty of room without being on top of each other. There are nice extras, i.e. beach chairs, beach wagon, outdoor shower, easy beach access etc. This was our 3rd summer and we will be back for a 4th. The owner is quick to respond and very pleasant to deal with.

The pictures of the rental are spot on. The house is awesome. Everything was clean, linens & beach towels provided and vacuum sealed, ready for your use. Beds are all very comfortable. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan, as does the living area. The house is the same cool temperature in every room. The kitchen has a huge table with built in bench and chairs; easily sits 10 people.. The walk in pantry room has tall shelves for your grocery items Washer, dryer & a second full size refrigerator. The outside grill is wonderful to cook on.
Public beach access walkway is 3 houses South from the rental - and not crowded.
Had to contact the owners once during our stay - The Propane gas tank on the grill was empty; I wrote Tay - she answered within one minute that a full, spare tank was avail in the storage room. Problem resolved.

Awesome Vacation!!!!
We rented the property for our fourth annual family beach trip & everything was perfect! This home was by far the nicest one we’ve stayed in on Topsail. Our five year old granddaughter really thought the upstairs loft was very cool! The rest of us especially enjoyed the pool & slide! We enjoyed our stay so much we’ve already booked this home for July of 2023!

Awesome beach vacation for all ages!!
Everyone loved this house so much in 2021 that we came back this year!! The location perfect— short walk to beach, quick drive to everything, can walk on beach to the pier, and great shelling on beach. The house itself is perfect also — kitchen well stocked, large table to enjoy meals, fun bunk/game room area for kids, and beautiful heated pool with low shelves and a fun slide for kids. Just Awesome!!

We spent a long Easter weekend here and it was a wonderful visit. The pool was warmed to a comfortable temperature and our boys loved the slide. The layout was great with everything on the main level with the exception of the kid's room/playroom upstairs. The owners have really taken the time to ensure amenities are available and accessible to guests. This is much appreciated although we do tend to bring some of our own stuff due to preference, you really don't need to bring much of anything. The beds were all comfortable which is another aspect of a rental that can ruin a nice trip. And the mom in me was so excited to see they had a Speed Queen washer and dryer!
One thing to keep in mind is that beach access is very convenient but not handicap accessible. The access is very steep with no stairs so if you have anyone with mobility issues, you will not be able to use the convenient beach access. Also, the housekeeping details felt rushed as there were tables left undusted, food left in the oven, and shower doors/windows that had not been cleaned properly.
You will be very happy with your decision to rent this lovely, well maintained, and decorated home and the owners were very responsive. In summary, we had a lovely visit and would certainly return again. Thank you!

We escaped our 35 degree Michigan homestead for a week of fun in the sun. The house was truly amazing!! The little things like matching cookware shows the property owners really want you to enjoy your time there. The table games, four bikes and heated pool were perfect touches for the escape.

While we didn't have the best weather during our stay, the pool at this property was a life saver! The kids in our crew loved the loft and games. The home is as very clean, comfortable and well appointed. A quick and easy walk found is at the beach daily hunting for shells and shark teeth. Great place for friends and family!

We will be back to this property! Super clean and well maintained. Essentials were provided and easy to locate, providing for a relaxing trip. The kids absolutely loved the loft room with bunks. They loved pulling the curtains for some private reading time. The warm pool was fantastic on the chilly days. Beds were very comfortable. Thank you for an enjoyable weekend at the beach.
