Acadia National Park: In 1913, President Woodrow Wilson set aside 6000 acres (within what is now Acadia National Park) as Sieur de Monts National Monument. With the acquisition of more land and private support and funding, in 1919 President Wilson signed an act establishing Lafayette National Park. In 1929 the parks name was changed to Acadia.
Acadia National Park was established to protect the area's spectacular scenic values, Maine's rock bound coast, its coastal and its offshore islands as characterized by the geologic features, natural history and the native plant and animal life. Forty five miles of rustic carriage roads weave around the mountains and through the valleys of Acadia National Park, the gift of philanthropist John D Rockefeller, Jr., and family. Rockefeller, a skilled horseman, desired to travel on motor free byways via horse and carriage into the heart of Mount Desert Island. His efforts resulted in roads with sweeping vistas and close up views of the landscape.
Cadillac Mountain: At 1,530 feet, Cadillac Mountain is not only the tallest mountain in Acadia National Park, but also the tallest mountain along the eastern coast of the United States. Rising high above the town of Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain offers magnificent views of the Porcupine Islands and Frenchman Bay. Explore the summit of this granite mountain along a .3-mile trail, which includes wayside exhibits about natural and human history. Portions of this trail are accessible to wheelchair users.

This house is a perfect family getaway. Everything you would need is provided. Walk out the door and you are on the water. Always feels like home when we are there.

This is a very roomy property with room to spread out with an awesome outdoor space!

This is our 5th or 6th stay with Steve at this property or Loons Nest next door. It just keeps getting better. The new back patio and fire pit were tops. I do believe that we were the first to use the nice fire pit. The landscaping around the house was upgraded and looked great. The new TV was appreciated. I don't remember the ice maker... which must be new as well. I really liked that. My family had a great time and do appreciate the attention to detail that makes this property terrific. I would have to search for a suggestion for improvement. The only thing to mention is that I miss the dumpster. You have to make a trash run mid week for a group of our size. The two small trash cans can't handle a week. Thanks again for another great stay... Phil & Mary

Our family enjoyed everyone gathering in the great room. There were beautiful views of the lake and the mountains, and plenty of seating!

The home was nice and accommodated our family well. The pond (really a lake) was beautiful. The value of the home itself was disappointing. Neighbors are close, albeit all very friendly, but you can overhear conversations easily so no privacy. While the home is equipped, you could not find a knife in the house sharp enough to cut anything. The cupboard with the seasonings was overwhelming, should be checked for age of items, etc. Bedding was old and some of the mattress covers were covered in dirt. We found the dirt after two family members broke out with unexplained rashes. We ended up rewashing the bedding. While the trash was empty, the recycling bin was full and there weren't any instructions on recycling rules or laws. Coffee maker was not cleaned from previous occupants. You're expected to strip beds, start laundry including towels and vacuum which is no problem. Vacuum and broom should be replaced as they don't work. Flower baskets are filled with weeds. Rock wall was falling apart and disarray. Luckily, we did not have any children who are walking
.
In comparison, we just returned from a vacation in Colorado. We paid 1/3 of the price for a five-star quality home. Looking at the prices for 2024 of the Beecher Pond home, the price has come down substantially (more than half) since paying the high price we did for our August vacation.
Memories were made but we will not return to this home.

Excellent. The house is stocked with everything you need. The lake is beautiful. We enjoyed the great room when inside as everyone could gather in the same room. Very comfortable and charming.

Check in is simple and easy. Home was extremely clean and had every utensil, pot, pan, glass and appliances that you could ever imagine. All the homeowners in the area are extremely pleasant and friendly. There was 9 of us and 2 dogs and we all love the house and the Pond/Lake. There is a Marina not far from the house that rents boats. My daughter and son in-law rented a pontoon boat and it was the best experience that we could of ever asked for.
Met and talked with Michelle, she is so pleasant.
If I had any suggestions it would be that one of the twin mattresses in the room down the hall would need to be replaced. It had a hard board in the middle that was not comfortable to lay on. We put a blanket under the sheet and it took care of the issue. The other would be the trash, There was 9 of us and had a lot of trash and there are only 2 barrels to put it in. Pick up is only once a week. No matter what this is a 5 STAR in our book.
Thank you Michelle and Steve

Don't hesitate to rent this property! The house was well equipped and comfortable for all 10 guests. The rainy week did not dampen our time at the house and on day trips to see more of Maine's treasures. The fact that you can stand in the living room, look out the window and see into the lake's crystal clear water is wonderful. Ducks, loons and eagles were in view. Kayaks, canoe and paddle board were appreciated. The hosts have carefully thought of what guests need and are clear in their communication about the rental. Wish we were still there this week!

This cottage was perfect for our family of eight. We have children that range in age from 15-27 years of age. The setup of beds and bedrooms was perfect for our family. Checkin was great and easy. The cottage was quaint and perfect. The family room was large enough that we could all be in one giant room and interact with one another. The kitchen was well appointed. There was great internet, but cell service was hit or miss. This was fine for us because we really needed to unplug. There was a smart TV, but we weren’t smart enough to get it to work…which was fine. We played board games. All bedrooms are located upstairs. There are two bathrooms with a washer and dryer available for your use. Outside, there was a fire pit with wood and four Adirondack chairs. There was a dock available to fish from and to kayak, paddle board or canoe from. All these items were available to us with the cottage. You can purchase a fishing license in the nearest small town about 25 minutes from the cottage. Our family also took day trips to Acadia and Bar Harbor. It is just under an hour of a drive from the cottage door. We didn’t mind the drive. We loved the scenery. Thirteen minutes of the drive was spent exiting the water property’s “neighborhood.” We loved being out and enjoying the silence. We have stayed at many VRBO’s through the years, this was a wonderful experience.

We had a beautiful time at the home in Otis. The weather was perfect and we spent most of our time in the water, in kayaks, on the paddleboard. On the single rainy day we had so many choices for indoor games with kids. We've had many VRBO stays, but this house was 100% stocked with spices, cook ware, and readiness for larger families. It was a perfect visit, and we'll be returning for sure!

Have been going to Beech Hill Pond for 20 years. Lovely home with amenities not often seen-- he ice maker was a godsend. Quiet retreat at the far end of the lake.

Awesome property! Extremely clean, all the kitchen supplies you could ever ask for. Met so many friendly people on the pond. Made new friends, so much for the kids to do. Kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, fishing, rock jumping. Nightly fires. We went when the weather was crazy hot so the only down fall was that there was not any AC in the house. There were plenty of fans, but for the 1st 2 days it did not feel like it was enough. It did cool down and we all adjusted. Having the pond in the palm of our hands was a blessing. Thank you to Michelle and Steve for sharing your awesome home on the pond with us. We would love to return next year.

Annual Family Vacation
Second year staying here and we returned because everything you need is here. Everything you need in the house is provided. We enjoyed kayaking on the huge pond and the close proximity to Acadia National Park. We were able to hike Acadia and kayak in the same day. And end the day with a nice family meal at the lake house. Hope to return again next year.

loved the location - right on a lake with kayaks available to use and not that far from Acadia National Park. We watched the loons every day. We would definitely recommend this place!

The house on the lake with the dock made everything accessible. Beautiful location on the lake with a nice homey feel. The house had everything you would need including all the accessories in the kitchen, towels and games. The canoe and kayaks were a big hit with our family. Nice drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor. A perfect family vacation that we would like to keep doing every summer.

Home away from home
If you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to stay at this lake house-grab it!!! This was our second time and it truly felt like our home away from home. It is large, lots of windows, equipped with EVERYTHING a family could want on a lake. We enjoyed the beach, kayaking and my crazy daughter liked jumping off the huge rock a little ways away. The neighbors are delightful, there is a shared raft, so the kids got to play with other kids. We saw eagles, loons and lots of ducks. We had a fire in the fire pit every night. If you can book it-do it!!!

Peaceful Retreat
A comfortable vacation home that has everything you could possibly need. Very well equipped kitchen (very much appreciated!), kayaks, canoe, paddle board, fire pit, gas grill, board games, linens, towels and even umbrellas. The house was very comfortable, including the beds and was spotlessly clean. We spent some time kayaking, fishing and paddle boarding even with October weather. Beech Hill Pond is a very clean lake! Spent a few days in Acadia which is only a 45-min drive away - it was nice to come back to the lake to relax. We stopped at the Bar Harbor Cellars for a wine tasting on our way back on a very blustery day. There was still lots more that we wanted to do in the area but tried to balance quiet time at the lake with exploring. No matter how many times we visit this area of Maine, we always want to come back again. Steve and Michelle were very responsive to inquiries and provided a much appreciated information sheet. My family would definitely consider renting the Cowan's vacation home again!

Great family vacation spot
We stayed for a week with (4) adults, (2) 6 year olds, and (2) 3 year olds, and a dog. The location was perfect, tucked in the corner of the “pond”, although it was the the size of a lake. There beach area is great for the kids and close to the house, so that we could actually keep an eye on the kids from inside. We caught fish off the dock, kayaked, canoed, swam, jumped off boulders, and explored Acadia. The house was well stocked with everything you would need. We have stayed at many different lake houses in ME over the last 10 years and this location/house is now a top our list. I would highly recommend staying here, especially for a family friendly location and thanks to the owners who gave clear instructions and recommendations for our stay.

A slice (of much needed) heaven!!!
We were looking for a summer getaway where we could isolate due to COVID-19. We hit the jackpot. This property has absolutely everything you could need...from the 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, laundry, well appointed kitchen and 2 living rooms to the front yard with hammock, side deck with gas grill and seating for at least 8, 2 kayaks, 1 canoe, a multitude of water floats and toys and a small beach with a shallow entry into the water, perfect for 6 year old children. We enjoyed swimming out to the raft, dangling our feet on the dock while feeding the mother and baby ducks and playing in the sand on the beach. The water is crystal clear! We saw turtles, frogs, ducks, loons, bald eagles (!!!), a fox and a snake. (Remember, 6 year olds....) The fire pit was so nice at night, looking at the abundance of stars and eating s'mores. Steve was extremely responsive to any questions we had. We are definitely going back!

Great location, outstanding lake and easy day trips to Acadia
Nice roomy cottage right on the lake with an awesome patio and lakeside fire pit. Wonderful, clear lake with nice kayaks, canoe, SUP included. Kitchen has everything you need, nice grill, large common room. Dog-friendly and nice beds for sleeping. 50mins to Acadia for great hiking and exploring. Local MTB trail network right around corner as well with nice single-track.

great vacation
The house is clean and well maintained. We are presently surprised with the decorative details in each room. The deck is a great place to eat lunch with music from the speakers and the lake in view. We enjoyed swimming, canoeing and kayaking in the lake. We highly recommend the place.

Maine family vacation
This was our 4th year at this location. A beautiful spot. We had 6 adults, two four year olds and two dogs. It is a great place for a family to come together and enjoy the outdoors. There are other cottages close by, but the neighbors are friendly and respectful. Things are busier on the weekends on the lake, but then it gets very quiet during the week - a fun contrast. This year, we saw 3 loons very close to the dock on a regular basis and the fishing was good. Of course, the clear, cool water is always a treat for kids, adults and dogs. A great place to relax.

We spent four days at the Beech Hill Pond Cottage in September and had a wonderful time.
We enjoyed our yearly girls getaway at this beautiful spot. The cottage was awesome and had everything we needed. Everyone loved the large open area in the dining room & living room. There was more than enough seating for all of us. The waterfront is perfect for swimming, kayaking etc. We will definitely book this property again.

Magnificent Maine
We stayed at the cottage on Beech Hill Pond with four children and we loved it. We loved the location on the lake, in a calm corner. We loved the availability of kayaks and the stand up board. It's a beautiful cottage. The living room is comfortable and a great place to read --- as are the chairs outside looking at the little beach. It's about an hour to Acadia, which was fine with us. We'd stay there again for sure. Thank you for hosting us!

Ideal for large groups, beach gradual entry to take advantage of boats and floats, fishing was a hit
Ideal location for day trips ( Bar Harbor, Acadia, Bucksport), good fishing, great swimming, kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding. Large great room and kitchen worked with several people cooking. Ice machine and washer and dryer all got put to good use. Nightly campfires with lots of outdoor seating, even a hammock for a nap.
The floating dock was a hit with the kids, and we all paddled across the pond for the “big jump” off of junk a pork rock.
Great memories were made here, thanks barb
