Lovely guesthouse in Ciombra

Beautiful old home... wonderfull hosts who provided lots of information regarding sites to see and good places to eat. Good location and on site parking. Our room on the top floor was amazing and had air conditioning. Had a wonderful stay in Ciombra!!!

Charming victorian with kitchen a reasonable walk to all of the main attractions

incredibly friendly Portuguese host, great info on where to look around in the area. If you don't mind some walking its a good location to walk to the university and park, then from there its easier to go downhill to the plazas. She gave us her onstreet parking spot and we just left our car there the whole time so we wouldn't lose our parking spot- something you learn to do living in Portugal LOL. It was also great to have kitchen access. This location would not be suitable for someone with mobility (walking/climbing stairs) issues.

Very good

We stayed at Adore Portugal for one night during our road trip across Portugal. We were welcomed personally by the host, who showed us around and also shared much useful information with us. The accommodation is comfortable and at a nice and calm location.

Unfortunately there was a problem with the number of beds ordered - although booking.com announced the room being suitable for 3 adults, it turned out that in fact one bed is suited for kids. This was ok for one night, but should be corrected. More dishware and other utensils could be provided in the kitchenette.

Rented rooms not a hotel or guest house.

This is a lovely old building furnished with heavy antique furniture. Comfortable bed and nice welcome tray of water, cherry brandy and an apple. There were plenty of quality clean towels and hot water. Communication was responsive and apologetic when we had problems, we were offered a second night free but did not wish to return.

This property did not have the service I expect from a guest house. It was like an Air BNB in someone’s private home but with no one there. We saw no one at the property all the time we were there and all communication was via WhatsApp. We arrived promptly at the agreed time but waited 10 minutes in the rain waiting for photos to instruct us how to let ourselves in. The house and room were very cold and the heating didn’t work as the batteries in the remote for the aircon were dead. There was also no toilet roll. Once we purchased batteries and toilet rolls we were comfortable. The bath also had a leak from the drain pipe leaking a lot of water into the floor. The description was, in my view, misleading. The ‘balcony’ was a Juliet balcony, so not large enough to sit out. There was also no kitchen / kitchenette set up for guest use. We were allowed access to it but the table, surfaces and fridge were full leaving no space to prepare anything. Overall arrival was very stressful and despite apologies and offers if a free night as compensation, we did not feel comfortable and do not wish to return.

The owner needs to understand the meaning of Customer Service. The only good thing was the location.

Location, the house itself was a very attractive and grand looking Portuguese property. Although the rooms were so full of the owner's bric a brac you had to move items in order to make room to place your things. Only 3 hangers in the wardrobe for two people. The locks on the bedroom and bathroom doors were extremely difficult to operate. You could not possibly move around quietly.

I advised we would be arriving at 2pm. When we arrived no one was at home. I telephoned and was told they would be back at 4pm. It was then agreed 3pm. By the time the owner and her son arrived it was 3.10pm and there were two other guests waiting outside on the pavement with us in 34 degrees. The owner ignored us, no greeting, no apologies for keeping us waiting. We were shown into a room with a large double futon. I had requested twin beds. We were then shown into a room with twin beds which was so small that we could not both walk in the room at the same time. One small window and the aircon would not work. The young man, was apologetic and did eventually fix the aircon but by that time I had decided that two adults could not stay in such a tiny room so I asked to be moved to the room with the large double futon. This was agreed, no problems, but it meant that my friend and I had to share a bed! We were then asked by the owner if we would mind sharing our bathroom!! I am well aware of the difficulties Covid 19 has caused small businesses, so reluctantly agreed. The room should never be advertised as having a private external bathroom as there are actually two rooms without ensuites and only one external bathroom! So if full, the bathroom would always have to be shared. Breakfast is included and served between 9-10am. The owner placed our clean crockery etc, on a used table with dirty dishes before placing it in front of us. What about Covid 19 precautions??? Disgraceful. The next morning we went to breakfast at 9.00am hoping to get a better service. At 9.35 I went to the kitchen and said excuse me but we have been waiting for 35 minutes and still nothing, not even a cup of coffee. She did not respond and I returned to my table to then have the sullen owner pour coffee into my cup from a height, spilling it over the table, ignoring my friend. She then appeared with 1 roll, 2 slices of bread some cheap ham and cheese with some egg : breakfast for two?

Adorable Coimbra House

We loved the worm hospitality. The smooth and charming elegance of the house. The kindness of the host family. The lovely breakfast on the terrace with Fado music in background. The refined style of the rooms and the nice piece of art and forniture of this beautiful, Adorable Coimbra House.

A lot of stairs to climb and narrow steps. To be fair we should add lift to our filters when booking. No exactly en suite bathroom. Bathroom across the hallway.
