About this cabin rental

Enjoy your own log cabin on a wooded hillside overlooking a lake as you start on the bourbon trail, head to the races or visit great museums. It's been the location for Lifetime and other movies! Period furnishings and modern conveniences make this an unforgettable retreat. A massive stone fireplace creates a quiet ambiance. Tasteful antiques appoint the cabin for a step back in time.

Captain's Cabin offers a special one-of-a-kind experience surrounded by history and luxury simultaneously. You will enjoy your own full kitchen, fully equipped and stocked with spices and supplies. The bath has been lovingly renovated while retaining the clawfoot tub. Enjoy a long soak with hand-crafted scrubs and soaps. There is no shower! You are surrounded in comfort from the ultra soft sheets, luxurious robes, and Sleep Number bed to the gourmet hot breakfast delivered to your door every weekend morning. Continental breakfast is provided on weekdays. (We promise you won't go hungry!) Join us for a Cooking With Bourbon Dinner Experience on weekends. Sip wine by the fireplace, read on the back porch swings or enjoy the wildlife visiting the lake from the front porch. Only 17 minutes from downtown Louisville, you are surrounded by 8 acres of woods and wildlife. Take a walk along the lake, hike through the woods and discover the waterfall. Take a canoe ride or go wading in the smooth limestone creek. Warm up by the firepit and roast marshmallows or use the grill to make your favorite dinner. Play golf or disc golf on the adjacent public courses. Captain's Cabin was featured in the April 2015 issue of Country's Best Cabins magazine, 2015 September issue of Style Blueprint magazine and April 2016 Home of the Week in Courier Journal.

Captain's Cabin is a great place to start your Bourbon Trail adventure, experience one of the Top Foodie Cities, visit the Ark and Creation Museum or bet on the ponies at Churchill Downs. But many people come here just to relax and get away from it all!

On arrival we were greeted by tammy who explained all about the cabin and how far it dated back, cablin is decorated in period style but with all the mod cons you would need. We were travelling around Kentucky and this was the perfect place to unwind. Enjoyed meeting captain and the fairy show at night.

After several months of medical treatment and with more to come, we found one weekend where we could get away. I needed a change of scenery and to feel like I was doing something normal. We didn't want to spend to much time traveling so we picked Louisville, 2 hours away and near our son and daughter-in-law. Captains Cabin provided just what we needed. It felt like we had really gone on vacation! It was perfect. In my communication with the owner I had shared my medical situation and the hosts went over and above making us feel cared for. Our son and daughter in law came over one evening and fell in love with the place and are thinking of trying to stay there for their baby moon! Thank you Captain's Cabin for the best weekend getaway we could have imagined.

Karl and Melanie from Alabama: Amazing, authentic,1800's log cabin with all the modern amenities (A/C, Fridge, Microwave, Stove/Oven, Coffee Pot, Keurig and a Sleep Number Bed). Our hosts, Jan and Tammy & Captain their very calm dog, welcomed us and we immediately felt like we had been long time neighbors. Jan and Tammy were both there for us if we needed anything but also gave us our space. Melanie and I were there to visit our daughter who recently relocated to Louisville. We unloaded a U-Haul full of her things and the cabin was the perfect place to rest, and recover. We spent hours each morning just sitting on the front porch drinking coffee and taking in the beautiful setting. On Saturday and Sunday Tammy brought delicious gourmet breakfasts to our front door (Bacon Egg and Cheese Croissants, Cheese Grits and a Bourbon Apple Pie Saturday, and a Sausage/Egg/ Cheese/Hash Brown Casserole, a Raisin Bourbon Bread Pudding and a huge bowl of Blueberries, Strawberries, and Grapes with Balsamic Vinegar on Sunday). Trust me, I'm a regular ole grits and eggs guy...It was all delicious. The surroundings are full of beautiful flowers and trees. It's just a short walk (or you can drive) to the creek or pond. The fire pit sits down from the cabin in the open area below Jan and Tammy's house We saw deer, ducks rabbits, a weasel, and the creek is full of crawdads. We had a wonderful time visiting with our daughter and playing in the creek. Jan and Tammy were wonderful hosts as well.

The property is more like a rustic museum than a cabin on the water to enjoy & canoe. The property was listed with a lake and waterfall view with the ability to use the canoe. The view from the front porch was simply overgrown trees. The area is quite noisy due to a local road. The water (man-made pond-reservoir) is 1/4 mile down the road and visible from the owner's driveway. You can canoe at your own risk due to the shallow water & no paddles. No access point to water & you would have to transport the canoe the 1/4 mile to the water. The property listed ability to have a fire. No fire pit was available & the inside fireplace had candles in it for the summer. There was wood available but no screen on the fireplace and no outside pit as stated. There was a t.v. as stated & you could put it anywhere you like, and even plug it in, but no data is running to it...so NO TV. There was cheese and stale crackers, a nice bottle of wine and two homemade bourbon candies to greet us. Ad also fails to mention that the cabin sits just feet away from the owner's property, although they were not home during our stay. The continental breakfast would definitely no sustain us had we stayed our entire stay. The egg cups where so salty I could not eat them. Dry biscuits are not a breakfast choice of ours. The fruit and yogurt were delicious. Needless to say, our money went to waste as we left after the first night of our 4-night stay. The back porch is not safe and needs repair.

Very secluded & private. Host is amazing- went above & beyond to ensure a peaceful stay. The only negative- the bed was extremely hard & uncomfortable

Beautiful, well maintained cottage. We loved it! We wished we could have stayed longer. Very close to local activities and the airport.

This location was exactly as described. It was one of most interesting and quite different from the average property. If you like the feel of a rustic cabin in the woods with amazing scenery, then this is a great spot. The hosts were incredibly hospitable and kind. The house has all of the basic needs and more. I appreciate being able to experience this one.
