Cat Island Overview: Untainted by tourism, Cat Island is the sixth-largest island in The Bahamas. The fishhook-shaped island — some 48 miles long and 1 to 4 miles wide and lies about 325 miles southeast of Miami. Named after the pirate Arthur Catt, it’s located near the Tropic of Cancer, between Eleuthera and Long Island. It has one of the best climates in The Bahamas, with temperatures in the high 60s during the short winters, rising to the mid-80s in summer, with trade winds making the place even more comfortable. With its pristine virgin beaches, Cat Island is one of the most beautiful islands in The Bahamas, and it is so little visited that it's inexpensive and still feels undiscovered. Many local historians claim that Cat Island residents were the first to see Columbus. The great explorer himself was believed by some to have been welcomed here by the peaceful Arawaks. Beautiful beaches offer an array of water sports. Visitors can go swimming or snorkeling at several places.

Historical
Hermitage on Mt. Alvernia
This island's distinct virtue is that it is home to the highest point in the Bahamas--Mount Alvernia--an astounding 206 feet (63 meters) above sea level On its peak is a monastery called The Hermitage, built by Monsignor Jerome Hawkes, who came to The Bahamas as an Architect and an Anglican priest to repair Anglican churches on Long Island. He was later ordained as a Roman Catholic Priest and became known as Monsignor Jerome Hawkes.
Deveaux Mansion
The ruins of an 18th-century plantation house.
Columbus Point
One of the many Indian caves which honeycomb the island, and a conch shell monument to Christopher Columbus, a testament to the locals' undying belief that here marks his first landfall, much to the dismay of the nearby San Salvadorians, who insist that the honor belongs to them.
Boating/Sailing & Diving
Since the day they were first discovered by ship, the 700 islands in The Bahamas have increasingly become a magnet for sea vessels. Fuel up. Chart a course. Uninhabited cays, hidden coves, annual regattas, and modern marinas will sweeten the voyage.
Diving
Coral reefs. Blue holes. Walls. Caves. Shipwrecks. Sharks. Dolphins. Stingrays. The variety of islands in The Bahamas presents a variety of diving experiences. Beginners and experts are welcome. Lessons and guides can be found throughout the islands.
Blue Hole; Out on the bank, this circular depression leads to an 80- to 100-foot descent along the outer walls. Inside the opening, divers often encounter schools of fish, large grouper, and Caribbean reef sharks.
White Hole Reef
This reef expresses another phenomenon unusual to The Bahamas: circular depressions in the limestone basin that form flat basins surrounded by coral mounds. These sites serve as an oasis for solitary reef and schooling fish.
Fishing
Bonefishing has become a local favorite within The Islands Of The Bahamas. Bonefishing takes place in the flats, where guides slowly pole small flat-bottomed boats for anglers or the truly dedicated quietly stalk these elusive fish by wading through knee-deep water. These quicksilver fighters, weighing up to 15 pounds, inspire both fly fishermen and spin casters alike with their power and speed.
Unpredictable and wily, the bonefish are often found in schools of 100 or more, making for exciting bursts of action. Don’t try to eat these bottom skimmers—you’ll quickly realize how they got their name.
Nathaniel 'Top Cat' Gilbert, a native of Cat Island, is an expert fishing guide and Certified Bonefishing Champion, with years of experience. He is a people person, likes to entertain and demonstrate fishing techniques. He knows where all of the good fishing spots are and guarantees that you will see fish.

Very Transporting Isolated but Beautiful Oasis
I came for a solo Bonefishing trip to get away from the craziness of COVID and 2020. Just what the doctor ordered. Set high on the edge of an insanely beautiful mangrove salt flat, the feel of this place is rustic but also elegant based on its bright Caribbean colors and cool architecture. I fished my brains out solo but also spent a lot of time on the white sand beach, one of the two best on the entire island and one of the nicest I have seen in a lifetime of world travel. Seimmable but calm pure white sand. The only negative was the no see ums that are prevalent at any remote place in the tropics that does spray pesticides indiscriminately but still annoying around sunset and sunrise. Otherwise not at issue. Overall Cat Island and this house are the perfect getaway from any busy on the grid life.

We just returned from our stay at the boathouse and the only negative thing I can say is that our stay was not long enough. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation to disconnect this is definitely the place to stay. There were days where we had the beach all to ourselves. Leslie was wonderful and we did meet some great people. The locals on Cat Island were friendly and helpful. Make sure you bring cash as many places on the island are cash only. We are already making plans for our next trip.

PERFECT HONEYMOON!!!!
I cant think of a better way to spend a honeymoon! We were far away enough from anyone else that we didnt have to see anyone if we didnt want to. Having acces to the Honor Bar at the PCBC was an awesome added bonus. It really helped in those times where we felt like we just needed to get out.
Only complaint I would have would be about the phone and internet. The use of them was spotty at best and down right impossible most of he time. This is not really a big deal, because lets face it, who wants to go to an island PARADISE and stay on the internet all day!

Another wonderful stay at the boat house and cat island
After our fourth year in a row visiting cat island, 3 of those with time spent at the boat house, we still cannot imagine a better place. Thank you to all those on the island who keep it such a wonderful place...we feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to spend time there and appreciate any chance to return. Great thanks for Leslie (and the owners /builders/caretakers) for making our time at the boat house so amazing each visit.

Piece of heaven on Earth
Beautiful home. Quiet and relaxing. Short walk to the most wonderful beach on cat island. Fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. Loved the outside shower. But would be cautious of that in the cool months as there is no wind block and it could get chilly. Leslie and Ned are great people. Would definitely be back to visit this piece of heaven on Earth.

Unique House, Perfect Beach
We enjoyed our week at Boathouse, and fell in love with wonderful Cat Island! The house has everything you need, as the other reviewers have noted. The tiki hut was the highlight of the rental in our opinion- it provides such a great place to relax and enjoy the view of a perfect beach. As a whole, the Boathouse is a funky-unique place to stay if you're looking for a departure from the norm.
The bed needs some attention. The side closest to the bathroom seems to have a pinhole or some other leaking issue. You can get it to air-up at night, but by morning you're sleeping in a hole.
Just FYI, the new rental 'Sundance House' is the neighboring property to Boathouse. In the event that both houses have renters at the same time, you lose some of that secluded beach privacy. The Boathouse tiki hut is approximately 70' from the Sundance beach chairs. That said, the beach:guest ratio is still pretty nice. There are about 10 other houses built along Pigeon Cay, but only on the very last night of our trip did someone occupy one of those homes. For two wonderful days, ours were the only footprints on Pigeon Cay beach. Heaven!
Out Island things: Collected rain water is the water source for the house, and it almost ran out while we were there. We weren't using excessive amounts of water, but when Ned noticed we were running really low, we went into serious conservation mode and made it through. Ned would have helped us out had we run out. The Boathouse SUV must be out of commission, because it wasn't an option once we arrived. Took a couple of days to get an official rental car. Definitely recommend you bring enough food for a couple of days with you, and be flexible! Having Ned nearby was a big help, and we even got a delicious meal from him one night. Despite little glitches, which are to be expected in the Out Islands, we had a fantastic trip and can not wait to return to Cat. Special island with special people.

Rustic charm on amazingly beautiful and peaceful beach
Just returned from the first ever kid free vacation my wife and I have ever taken. The Boathouse was the perfect spot for this vacation. Cat Island is not for everyone, but if you are flexible, adventurous and want true peace it is perfect. The house sits just behind the dune with a cool tiki hut on a mile long beach of super fine powder white sand. In a week we saw a total of 4 other people on the beach. Behind the house is a beautiful tidal creek. We kayaked the ocean to the mouth of the creek, which is further than it looks but is totally worth it. Once there the water is crystal clear and is full of small fish, turtles and rays. Start your trip 3-4 hours before high tide and you can paddle right to the back of the house. The Hermitage and Sea glass beach are both very cool to see. The beach in Orange creek is very nice, snorkeling in Alligator creek is fun. We went deep sea fishing with Reynold Butler from Bowleg charters and had a blast,
he put us right on the fish. Great places to eat are Yardie's for a quick lunch or Shanna's for amazing pizza and salads (the road is rough getting there). I'm a meat eater but would order Shanna's shrimp salad any day. The house itself is very unique with all the walls opening up to the 12ft wraparound decks. A nice kitchen with everything you need. We brought some meat, cheese, peanut butter, coffee and other essentials as we knew groceries were expensive and selection limited on the island. The bed is fairly comfortable but could use some new linens. The a/c unit keeps the house cool on the hotter night's but during the day the doors open allows the wonderful breeze to keep the house comfortable. The outdoor shower is amazing after getting over our initial apprehension. If you need anything Ned and Leslie are at PCBC just down the road, where you also have access to the honor bar. If you're a drinker grab a couple bottles of liquor at the Nassau airport duty free. Beer is $60 a case on the island so we drank local rum and loved it. Bring lots of sunscreen and 100% deet bug spray as the no seeums can get bad in the evening if there isn't a breeze. Its nice that there is a stereo, tv and dvd player for after the sun goes down as there is no nightlife on Cat. Things will not go perfect on the out islands but if you are flexible and have a good attitude your trip will be amazing. We can't wait to go back! Thanks for the use of your house Mark and thanks to Ned and Leslie for your assistance.

The Cat Island Boathouse, Peace, Privacy, and Perfection
We love quiet, off the beaten tourist path places, and each year, we plan an anniversary trip someplace where we can be alone as possible. The Boathouse checked everything on the list. When we told people we were going to Cat Island, they looked at us like we had grown a third eye. "Where?" Now, you'll learn about our best kept secret.
If you want nightlife and shopping, then Cat Island is not the place for you. If you want peace and quiet, lovely local people, and just the sounds of wind and water and birds ... and pretty much nobody else around, then the Boathouse is the place to be. The Boathouse is lovely. A very open concept of blending the indoors and the outdoors. Everything you need for home away from home is there.
And then there is the beach. You'll likely have it to yourself ... for miles. The most beautiful water, and your own private palapa for shade. You'll rarely see another soul, which also means that other souls will not be seeing you! Powdery sand and that beautiful glowing water.
Cat Island certainly has some options for eating out, but I'd suggest stocking up with groceries, because once you are at the Boathouse, you will NOT want to leave. We can't wait to go back!

Amazing beautiful property - Highly Recommended!!
We wanted to thank you for a wonderful stay at the Boathouse on Cat Island. The house has a wonderful location on what we thought was the best beach on the Island. The gorgeous beach at Pigeon Cay has sand like talcum powder and very calm seas even during windy days. The palapa provided us great comfort and sun protection and we ended up using it on many occasions. The location of the rental property is very nice being close to all things north and it’s north central location allowed us to venture south on the island just as easily. We found the market at Smith Bay to be the most well stocked and that was an easy and fun drive from the property. Also, venturing out back into Alligator Creek is a must. Though the bottom of the creek starts off just a bit soft, it quickly firms up to a nice firm sand base and you can walk and explore for literally miles through the creek system in 1-2 feet of water observing fish, turtles, baby sharks (don’t worry – they are afraid of you), bonefish, rays, etc. Bonefishing is excellent and you can find bonefish off the heads and points of mangroves on either side of high tide. Wonderful area to fish and explore. The Atlantic beaches in the area are amazing as well. We especially enjoyed the atlantic beach about 1 mile south of the property. Go south on main road and take a left at the cell tower to the Atlantic. Gorgeous isolated endless pink beach with great snorkeling and fishing. The people of Cat are wonderfu and so friendly - we made many new friends up north at Pigeon Cay, Arthur’s Town, Bennett’s and Orange Creek. Orange Creek is a beautiful area. Don’t miss it. The house is very comfortable with all the conveniences you need for your trip. We especially enjoyed the open feel of the house with the breezes coming through. The deck, bed, furnishings and shower are wonderful. Leslie, Ned and everyone at the Pigeon Cay Beach Club were so helpful and friendly. It was nice to have them close by and Leslie helped us out a number of times. Thank you! We highly recommend the Boathouse and hopefully will be back to enjoy this beautiful area of Cat Island soon! We’ve been to numerous out islands and stayed at many places and the Boathouse and Cat Island are now very close to the top of our list! Thank you, Mark and Sarah! Highly recommended!!

Idyllic retreat in Bahamian nature
We have been visiting The Bahamas for over 20 years and have stayed on five different islands. We love the seemingly infinite number of beautiful beaches to have to ourselves, the quiet, the friendly residents and the big open skies. Cat Island is probably our favourite, and The Boathouse is the place we find ourselves longing to return to the most.
We think it has the perfect balance between peace, quiet, privacy in a beautiful natural setting and friendly hospitality and assistance just a short walk away. Pigeon beach is clearly one of the best on the island. It's wide, white expanse and private Tiki hut is just over the dunes, the water clear and warm and is probably all most are looking for (though I personally cannot resist exploring all the fascinating and varied natural elements of the area). Meanwhile the Pigeon Cay Beach Club with its wonderful hosts is there to assist and to provide a wonderful dinner on the beach a few nights a week, should you choose not to cook.
The Boathouse is unique with its open concept, many windowed second story perch and 360 wrap around deck with an outdoor shower but we loved the feeling of being part of the environment. The big glass doors fold wide open and need to be secured when the wind is up, but this is easily done (with the help of some heavy coral pieces) and the sense of being in but out is wonderful. Given the reasonable rental price for something so distinct, we thought the house was beautifully while minimally furnished, and very well appointed so that cooking, and clean up was easy. Any glitches we ran into were immediately addressed. (The owner even called us from the states while we were there to get feedback on our stay.)
We were initially concerned about mosquitos since the doors and windows are not screened but we found that most nights the breezes are enough to keep them away and other nights we zipped up the outdoor deck screen which creates a sizable outdoor dining room.
For any person or couple who loves the natural world yet appreciates a clean, functional and beautiful space to return to in the evening, or a place to lounge, in a hammock, with a book, with the touch of a light afternoon breeze, on a deck or on the perfect beach, we do not know a better place.

We had the most wonderful week at The Boathouse. I don't know if you could find a more relaxing vacation. That is of course if you enjoy cooking your own food, and not doing much of anything. Ned and Leslie, who manage the property and own the nearby Pugeon Cay are absolutely wonderful. We did have a few meals there, which sitting on the beachside was so relaxing.
We were told from the locals that our week had been the worst weather wise so far this winter. It was very breezy and cooler then normal. But we still wouldn't of traded it for anything. We are going home to a Winter Storm Warning now, but I'm hoping the memories from The Boathouse, Pigeon Cay, and the rest of the island can keep us warm until spring.
Our cabbie, Danny was awesome. He is a gardener too, so ask him for produce. His tomatoes were the best. We took the car out 2 days, which was more then enough for us. Next time we will probably bring more food along as it is pricey, and "boat dependent". If the boat doesn't make it, you don't get it. Gas stations were even out of gas due to the high winds from Saturday until Thursday.
We were never at Cat Island, or any besides Nasssau, prior to this trip. But we will be back to the gorgous beaches at Cat Island. Next time though, we will bypass a stop at Nassau, and get right to the relaxation time.
Mark and Sara. Thank you for renting your home out to us, and providing the most memorable vacation we could of ever had.

Another week in Paradise!
My wife and I returned to the Boathouse for our third stay in the last 17 months in April. It was again perfect for our needs. The Boathouse provides complete tranquility in a breathtakingly beautiful location.
If you want complete relaxation on a world class beach, with very few people to interrupt you, the Boathouse is the perfect place. The private tiki hut is the perfect place to take refuge after long swims in the gin clear water.
You can cook for yourself in the well appointed kitchen, or supplement your meals with Ned and Leslie just down the beach at Pigeon Cay 3-4 times per week for dinner.

Great natural moments on Cat Island
We stayed during one week on this wonderful island.
The Boathouse is very well situated and the landscape around the property is splendid.
At the boathouse you can live a natural life with all the comfort you need.
The house is well equiped and if you enjoy peace and quiet; its your area !
The beach at one minute by walking (its almost a private beach ) is really incredible. We don't say more about it : you have to live the experience by yourself...
The manager welcome you and help you if you need something. The owners are really nice and we exchanged a lot before the stay.
Cat is a paradise for who wants to live the islander experience. The beaches are incredible and in July we were always alone on each beaches we discovered. What a pleasure to have our private beaches wherever we went !
You can find good restaurants on the island but you can also live independently in the house.
We recommend to have a car to visit the island because there are lot of things and wonderful places to discover.
The people on the island are very nice and smilling, the "big" tourism doesn't affect the island and we hope it will be like that for a long time... Because its very precious to have these kind of places in the world with its natural people and its preserved landscapes ... We travel for that.
We have had a wonderful stay , we have wonderful "souvenirs" of the island and of the house.
We recommend of course the boathouse for all these reasons.
Be curious travelers, be respectful tourists and discover this place !
Thank you again to the owners.
And good travels !!!

Solitude in the Bahama's
The Beachhouse is a remarkable place. This was our second trip and we have already booked a return visit. It is uniquely situated between the creek and the open ocean with fast access to both. This is a great place for the self sufficient who enjoy the island lifestyle. This is not a tourist island and there are not a lot of amenities. But for those that want to get away -- and want some solitude -- this is the place. The house is always in immaculate condition. Saying that its very clean is a dis-service. Its spotless, well maintained and nicely appointed. You can swim, snorkel fish, kayak, hike, etc. If you enjoy the outdoors -- this is a place to do it. the only downside is that there are "no-seeums -- tiny flies" which can be a pain if there is little wind. For those thinking about this type of place -- go for it. The owners are great and very communicative. They want you to enjoy their little piece of paradise as much as they do.

Honeymoon at the Boathouse!
The boathouse was the perfect honeymoon getaway for my wife and I! The house has amazing views in every direction, a fantastic kitchen/living space and a very comfortable bedroom. We loved lounging under a Tiki hut while enjoying the softest sand I've ever felt, exploring the nearby reefs and paddling the flats behind the house. Cat Island is a little off the beaten path which is why I believe it is so unspoiled. The reefs were full of fish and best of all we were never hassled to buy anything. In fact I never saw anything resembling a souvenir shop. This is not to say that we had to rough it. The nearby Pigeon Cay Beach Club offered a fully stocked bar and great food and people. The locals were more than friendly, to the point that we felt safe enough to hitch hike to any destination. This trip was definitely a place to get away from it all and still have life's little luxuries (hot water, internet, tv, air conditioning, refrigeration, oven, bbq, just to name a few). The owners were also very friendly and we had zero issues with the home. I would highly recommend spending your time on Cat Island at the "boathouse".

Perfect Get Away
The house was awesome. The Beach House was even better than we expected. The description of the house and property are quite accurate, but it is still difficult to envision how beautiful peaceful and serene this location really is.
Wen we arrived on Cat Island, Leslie (the local property manager) had a car waiting for us at the airport for transportation to the house. The house was very clean and ready for our arrival. The kitchen is stocked with anything you need to cook your favorite island meals. The king-sized Select Comfort bed is the perfect end to days spent enjoying the island. The on-site property manager was able to assist us with all of our vacation arrangements such as rental cars, groceries and recommendations for where to purchase fresh seafood. We also enjoyed the bikes and kayaks that come with the house.
Cat Island is a perfect get-away from the hustle of everyday life. The beaches are beautiful and uncrowded and we found the locals friendly and very helpful with site seeing recommendations.
The Beach House is the perfect place to stay if you want a remote and romantic get-away to a fabulous destination.

Relaxation at its BEST!
Where do I even begin when it comes to putting into words my wonderful stay at the Boathouse? If you’re even questioning staying at the Boathouse or wondering if everything is good to go since the hurricane, you can rest assured everything is the way it should be, perfect. My fiancée and I stayed at the Boathouse for twelve nights and truly still didn’t have enough time. The Boathouse is truly a relaxing place and somewhere I can’t wait to visit again. Having traveled a lot in my life and stayed at so many great places, your house was truly in my top three! The attention to detail in every aspect of your house is truly amazing. From the great king hammock on the porch to the “at home feeling” of the house, I was truly blown away. Your website doesn’t even begin to explain how wonderful your house or the beaches truly are. The Boathouse has all the amenities and more as the website reflects. If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing, and perfectly secluded beach then look no further. There really isn’t much more you can ask for besides the amenities that are already included.
The island as a whole was truly a great place to get away from it all. We were truly amazed and happy of how “un commercialized” the island truly is. Jennifer and I are very much the type of people who enjoy little quite places like Cat Island with people second to none. The locals were really great! The fact that a little nine-year-old boy stopped us and asked for a ride was truly something that shocked me but shows just how safe and comfortable the island locals are. Also if you’re looking to fish, I highly recommend Ricky, he may not have the best-looking boat but after three and a half hours we were twenty five fish deep in the cooler with a huge twenty five plus pound red snapper.
Overall, I would rate the vacation a 9 out of 10, with the Boathouse earning a 10 out of 10, and the price was very cheap. I can’t believe Mark and Sarah rent their house for so cheap to be truthful but it’s something I liked ha-ha. You were so right about Cat Island and I now understand how you could so easily fall in love with the place. Again thank you for your great hospitality and letting us share a piece of your welcoming and loving home. Until Jen and I return again, like the old sailors say, “Fair winds and calm seas”. Thanks again for everything, this was a dream vacation come true. Cat Island and the locals simply ROCK!

Relaxing, private, intimate, and well located!
We had an amazing week at The Boathouse. The house was perfect and was “home” very soon after we settled in. It was conveniently located for island exploration, which we did daily with a rental jeep. We covered everything from the 40-minute trail hike to Man-O-War Point on the north, to a drive all the way to Bain Town in the south. With the jeep we were able to traverse the island at several crossings to the Atlantic beaches, which were generally deserted for miles and miles. We enjoyed eating great Bahamian food prepared by locals, getting to know them while we ate. And at the end of the day we retreated to the Boat House for a refreshing hot shower, then wine and cheese on our private beach watching the sunset. Our caretakers Ned and Leslie were nearby to help out if needed. Using my wife's iPad we were able to keep up with business emails and Facebook via the wifi signal available to the house. The Bahamian people are the loveliest in the world, and they are appreciative of visitors and help out any way they can. Cat Island is a great destination for anyone with a sense of adventure and a desire to get away from it all! No concrete water slides, or scheduled activities, or tour busses to catch. But the grouper is fresh and the conch salads and fritters are legendary. There are few places left on earth like this, and its so reachable from the US.

Absolute Bliss - part one
My wife and I aren't new to the "Out Islands". The boathouse was our third rental in the "Real Bahamas" - as the locals call them ... I'm saying this because the way we were swept away by this beautiful little house, reminded us of our first visit on those pristine islands: love at first sight. We stayed a total of 17 days. There is not a minute of inconvenience, not a single thing that was out of place. Ned and Leslie, the caretakers and owners of nearby Pigeon Cay Beach Club, will greet you. They're so nice! Tips on everything and anything, help if you need any and absolutely charming hosts. Actually aided us in a time of dire need. Our second night there, when still learning where to get basic supplies we lacked an essential part of any romantic diner: a decent bottle of wine. In a second Leslie had two bottles out of her personal reserve and managed to order us a full case the very next day!
I should warn you here. The first time you will step over that dune and around to the Boathouse's spacious and private Tikki, you will experience true amazement: the beach is ... Perfect. It simply cannot be improved. Kilometers of pure white sand, untainted gin-like crystalline turquoise hued water. Everyday I had to pinch myself over that sight. I couldn't believe it was ours for two weeks. And ours it was. During our sixteen-day stay, the most crowded that 3 km stretch of powdered sand ever got was … six people. I think. They were so far from us; I’m still not sure.
The house is also quite a find. An elevated pagoda-like gem sitting atop a hill, exposed to gentle winds during the day. At night the AC does the trick. When you open up all the doors and lounge around the huge wraparound balcony, whether it’d be on the comfortable chairs, or the hammock – you feel like royalty surveying a gorgeous domain of wild greenery, ocean and lagoon.

The Boat House on Cat Island: The Perfect Villa
Over the last few years my wife and I have become enamored with the Bahamas "Out Islands". After spending two weeks each on Exuma and Eleuthera, next up was Cat Island, and the first task was finding a villa to rent. My wife enjoys this phase of vacation planning, and spends weeks poring through the multitude of travel sites on the Internet, reading reviews and recommendations, to find the perfect villa. She's very good at this, has always put us in wonderful locations, and she definitely picked the right place for this trip: The Boat House.
The Boat House has everything going for it that a couple could want: a fabulous location, near the middle of Cat Island; a stunningly beautiful beach with sand the consistency of powdered sugar and with a private palapa, and where we spent nearly every afternoon relaxing after a day of exploring the island; comfortable privacy, but with a nearly 360 degree view through the multitude of fold-out glass doors that really bring the outdoors in; a fully equipped kitchen, plus an excellent Weber gas grill on the huge wrap-around deck; a refreshing outdoor shower with plenty of hot water; and a very comfortable king size bed, with a wonderful view towards the rising sun. And if one has the urge to connect with the outside world, all of the major broadcast networks were available on the television, and wireless internet access for teasing friends and family with pictures of the days travels.
And for the flyfishing spouse, there is a mile long fantastic bonefish flat right out the door! Truly special, one memorable day I caught and released over 15 bonefish on a white Sili-Shrimp pattern that the fish just could not resist - my best day of bonefishing ever!
When we visit Out Islands, we like to cover the entire island, and this trip to Cat Island was no exception. We were fortunate to have rented a Jeep Grand Cherokee from the folks that run the Pigeon Cay Resort (and who also capably manage The Boat House) and traveled every ancient cross-island plantation road that was passable to hit the Atlantic side beaches, which we always had to ourselves. We also visited every settlement and resort from North End Point to the southernmost ends of the island at Port Howe and Devils Point, and came to the conclusion that there simply is no better place to call "home" on Cat Island than The Boat House. Our two weeks there over the Easter holidays in April 2011 will be fondly remembered forever.
