Close to volcano
Too far away from main road and can’t access without car

Location and the view of the volcano are wonderful
Breakfast needs to improve

Honeymoon suite was outstandly beautiful. It does look like the pictures, even better. We had this view to the volcano, the jacuzzi. Breakfast was delicious and staff was a charm! Will totally visit again!
You need to go 2 km to get to the reception and you need to be really careful while driving through that path. I would say it requires an experienced driver.

The property was lovely, as was the little pool and jacuzzi. We also enjoyed the included breakfast -several choses!
We stayed in the junior suites and found it u comfortable to hear our neighbors so clearly through the adjoining walls on each side.
The driveway into the property is quite windy and uphill. It takes a good 8 minutes to get to the road.

Woke up to the view of the volcano every morning and fell asleep to the sounds of the jungle every night. Heard howler monkeys each morning nearby. This is an older property on a lot of land but it seems to stay maintained well enough and the fact that it's secluded makes it that much more beautiful. We saw red eyed tree frogs right outside the restaurant in the beautiful garden. The grounds surrounding our balcony were so lush. The view of the volcano is the highlight of this property.
The grounds are huge so once you enter the property, you will have a long winding road to your room. This is great if you love being one with nature. I loved it. However, we arrived at night and got a little lost trying to find the road to our room in the dark (even with the map provided by the security officer at the gate entrance). If we had arrived during the day, we would have been fine. Our fault!

The property, history and staff were so charming. My first thoughts were that the place needed a lot of work. As I explored the grounds, talked with the owner and learned more the place took on a magical experience. And then there is the view from the Chalet. WOW!

The hotel is in the middle of the forest. The view from our room was spectacular and thanks to te howler monkeys nearby we get up just in time to see the sunrise behind the volcano which was magical. I loved all the nature noises evening and the mornings. They has a nice garden with bird feeders, we saw there a lot of birds, including hummingbirds. Breakfast was nice.
The road to the hotel is challenging. The hot tub was way too hot, we couldn't really use it, they tried to make it colder, but didn't make it. The breakfast was a bit boring for longer stays. They have a breakfast menu where you can choose between four options.

This place was amazing. Having the garden below the deck area was great to view birds (especially for breakfast) and gave us a great view of the Volcano when the clouds parted.
The food at the onsite restaurant was amazing, it was one of the highlights of our trip! I recommend the Rice and Chicken Tico Style, we opted to eat here every night for dinner because the food was so good, well priced, and the staff was great.
If I ever come back to La Fortuna, no doubt I'll be staying here.

Perfect location, everything was great! The stuff are really nice and friendly. We loved our view from the balcony and also the hot tubs and the pool. Especially when the volcano was here!
Its kind of cabin style, not very new but who care when the nature and the views are amazing!
The owners are also very nice!
1.5
The location.
The whole place has a really rundown feeling. Everywhere you go feels cold. The place needs updating. The chalet was really cold and unwelcoming. The guy on reception was very unfriendly and not very helpful. in the bathroom there is a notice saying protect the rainforest, asking you to reuse your towels, we would have been very happy to do that but there was nowhere to dry the towel, they could save so much money if they provided a heated towel rail. Meals were average and very little choice. There seemed to be a shop in the hotel that was never open.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was as good or better than any local breakfast - fresh fruit and good coffee.
The pillows were quite thick and stiff.

The view, trails and pool
it’s a little dated
2.0
we had the chalet which was decent sized
d
-hard beds
-No AC so we got bitten a lot!
- shower door would rattle all night as the door was very old and would not close even when you showered.
-outdated and stained furniture
-very remote and not close to anything. It took us over 10 mins to get down to the main road by car!
-food not nice at all apart from the traditional breakfast
-rooms weren’t cleaned- our room service plates were not collected during our stay from first day when we ordered till the fourth day. Bins weren’t emptied and the floors were sticky. The bedsheets weren’t changed- the beds were only made and towels were changed.

staff: the staff was great!!!!!! Especially front desk guy, helped us a lot through all our stay. Even the gate guys was cool.
rooms: We drive a bit around until we found our room and i think all rooms has a good view. we switch 2 rooms( us we extend our stay) and both had nice view.
You can hear a bit people behind a wall, but it didn’t bother us. The furniture in rooms a bit outdated, but its still was good and very clean!! There is extra blankets if the temperature drops. The AC is only cold. Shower water is hot and nice.
facility: The pool is cold, but we like it, anyway. the view is beautiful!!!
Jacuzzi need to be booked ( yo give you privacy) and worm up at least 1 hr before( 30 min was not enough to get worm, and we was waiting). its also beautiful!!!
They have a little hike you can do, and massages if you like it us my wife do, or little gym while its raining.
There is also restaurant if you like. But we didn’t try because we didn’t like breakfast.
road: the road to a hotel is 7 min probably driving up the hill. We had front wheel drive Suv, and it was no problem even in rain. The road is brick and has a griff. im sure even sedan can make it easy, as long you a decent driver). So dont listen negative reviews you need only 4x4.
Probably we didn’t like only breakfast. It was okey. But very small choice and portions. Like 5 pieces fruit plate, orange juice, coffee and on your choice : continental breakfast/omelet/ or 2 pancakes( included with your stay). I wouldn’t mind to pay extra in restaurant, if menu had a better options i can purchase.

We loved our stay at the hotel Arenal Lodge! A beautiful location and ideal if you are looking for a quiet and remote spot near Arenal. We stayed in a family suite which was perfect for us. There were beautiful trails well marked and maintained around the property. The staff were truly exceptional. Highly recommend getting a massage from Amalia when you are there- she’s amazing!
I loved it overall and would go back in a heartbeat. This wouldn’t be for you if you’re looking for luxury or want to be close to fortuna (it’s about 20 min away).

Restaurant was wonderful
Bed was as hard asi ever had

We really enjoyed the pool and room - both have a spectacular view of the volcano. The property also has several trails to explore, as well as a garden filled with many different types birds to watch while you have a meal. The staff were pleasant and the rooms were spacious. We would definitely return.
Hearing our neighbours so clearly through the walls, but this was truly a minor inconvenience.
4.5
I liked that they were very accommodating and gave good advice on where to find a good local thermal hotsprings (which the area is famous for). They adapted the breakfast for us so that it was vegan and were just very helpful in general. We could park right in front of our room and the scenery was out of this world.
As the lodge is quite remote (15min drive up very steep road to the mountain top road). I would hope for a few more vegan options on the menu. This is not only true for Hotel Arenal Lodge but for Costa Rica in general, as sometimes finding a vegan option can be tricky. So not so much of a criticism of the Lodge more of an observation of CR.

Beautiful view.
Lovely jungle walk
Very noisy neighbours (thin walls)

The hotel was lovely. The staff were very friendly and incredibly helpful.
We did the hikes on the estate which we great, plus the horse riding which was brilliant.
I think they need to be a little clearer on the website or booking sites about how far away from the main road it is. We didn’t have a car and arrived by shuttle, we then had to rely on taxis when we were there but many didn’t want to go out that far, or charged us considerably more ‘because of the bad road.’
1.5
We really did not like our stay. The only redeeming quality was the view which was really quite beautiful on the first day as we had a full view of the volcano. But quite frankly, one can see the volcano from many places in the area.
The food was terrible. On arrival we ordered a soup as we had been driving all day and expected to get a minestrone. Honestly, it tasted as though it came out of a can. The dinner was also very bad. As a vegetarian, there wasn't much on offer and since the property is 30 minutes from town, it isn't easy to grab a bite out. We were tired, and just wanted to eat and go back to our rooms to rest. Two of our party were non vegetarians and two of us were vegetarians. None of us liked the food which was overpriced. There was hardly anything on offer for vegetarians - we opted to have the starter mixed salad as a main which was nothing more than a few leaves of lettuce, tomatoes, onions and palm hearts. Our meat eating friends ate the fish which they thought tasted frozen and the veggies had so much garlic they were unpalatable.
Back in our rooms after dinner, the walls are so thin that we could hear our neighbours talking until they went to sleep after 10.
The property is tired and unkempt. There are weeks all over the paving, the butterfly garden does not exist and the hummingbird garden is in a state of ill repair.

really liked the people, location and view. rooms had nice overlook of the valley, birds and other wildlife.
will come back to this place

This place is magical! The staff was SO friendly and really made you feel welcome. The pool and jacuzzis were amazing, clean, and easy to reserve. The grounds are beautiful, and the view is the best in the area. Rooms and common areas are all well kept and taken care of. There is a pool table and also foosball for socializing and having fun in the evening. The gym was available, although we didn't use it due to all of our hiking both on the property and in La Fortuna. I would definitely stay here again!
Nothing.... Everything was perfect, prices in the restaurant and bar are reasonable, food was tasty, and the service was excellent.
