Amazing Room!! We stayed in the “Bifora” suite. Honestly, the most unique and well appointed room/apartment we’ve ever stayed in and beautiful. Wonderful breakfast as well. Great location in the old part of the city and amazing views.

Location is very good, with easy access to the city centre. The suite room was amazing, built in the style of old Matera houses. Staff was incredibly helpful and kind. Highly recommended.

We were greeted by a friendly receptionist who showed us up the street to our apartment. It was lovely and unique, but at first I was disappointed as I had booked a room with a balcony. He explained it was a superior apartment with a spa bath, etc, but showed us another apartment with a balcony. Indeed , although lovely, it wasn’t as good as ours. We settled for the apartment given, and he promised to recommend a bar with a balcony overlooking the old town. Because I had once again mentioned our Anniversary when booking, he had put a bottle of prosecco in the fridge for us! There were cereals, fruit, bread, cake, preserves etc on the table, and ham, cheese, milk and juice in the fridge which would be replenished daily. The apartment is spectacular and very unique. The town is amazing, like nothing we have ever seen before. After settling in we headed back to reception to ask about the recommended bar, and he showed us on the map. We set off once more, first of all booking a recommenced restaurant, for Saturday night. Then up and up and round and round, taking so many photographs as we went, as we have never seen such a beautiful unique old town before. It is a World Heritage site and a European Capital of Culture since 2019. We almost gave up trying to find the bar getting lost in the narrow steep streets. We ended up in a more modern part of the town, high above the old streets, and eventually found the Cavalier Bar. We had to wait 10 minutes to get a seat on the terrace, but it was so worth the wait. What spectacular views! We shared an excellent platter of mixed aperitifs, a prosseco for me, a beer for John, then red wine and another beer. 35 euros. Worth every cent! The balcony gradually emptied before we left, and we were able to move more centrally for our 2nd drinks. We think people have drinks and aperitifs with a view, before going on for a main meal. It was wonderful watching the old town light up below us. Quite magical.

Matera is a truly mesmerizing place, and our experience there was absolutely incredible. From the moment we arrived, Alessandra went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. She assisted us in finding a taxi from the train station and warmly welcomed us with a detailed map of the city, highlighting all the must-see places, tourist routes, and providing us with valuable information.
Not only was Alessandra exceptional, but the entire staff was also helpful and friendly throughout our entire stay. They were always available to answer our questions, offer suggestions, and provide any assistance we needed. Their genuine hospitality truly enhanced our experience.
The room we stayed in was conveniently accessible and the staff kindly helped us with our luggage right up to the door. The room itself was comfortable, clean, and well-maintained, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.
We found in our room the breakfast for the next day and it included a wide variety of options to suit everyone's tastes.
From the moment we set foot in Matera, it was love at first sight. The city's unique charm, rich history, and stunning architecture captivated us. And when we return, without a doubt, we will choose the same place to stay. The experience was nothing short of exceptional, and we highly recommend this location to anyone seeking a truly unforgettable stay in Matera.

Matera- that's all you have to say. You must go. The location is down in the cave area and there is so much history all around you. You should watch "Passion of the Christ" and "No time to Die" before going as it will increase the fun. Also, make sure you go to the opposite side of the canyon to look back at the city. Breakfast was very good. Loft bedroom could be an issue for some but was fun for us.
It's hard to park, that's clearly stated everywhere. Pack light to walk in. Even with google maps it's somewhat hard to find the place the first time as there are winding little streets everywhere. Once I found it and we walked back up to the main piazza then I could find my way back without the map. There was a crane operating right across the street from us and they were busy for much of the day, so kind of noisy. Also, our room was not a cave so if you are expecting to ONLY stay in a cave this would have been a disappointment.

fabulous location. we were truly in the heart of the old town. Photo opportunities at every turn. we took 2 guided tours. one in a Tuk-tuk which gave us an overview of the area then a walking tour so we go into rock churches and cave houses. This is a pedestrian city. Each day we logged thousands of steps, many of which were stairs.
If you arrive by train or bus, take a taxi. it may look like a short distance away but there are a million suitcase unfriendly stairs.
Maps and Google are sketchy at best. The big things like churches were easy enough to find, but smaller attractions like Casa Nuho, we never did locate. Although we found a terrace cafe/bar that had killer views.
Never did find James Bond either. lol.

Huge, lovely renovated cave! How cool is that??
Spotty internet last day only. Not a deal breaker, just an inconvenience when trying to finalize ongoing travel plans

A very characterful building. Very spacious. A superb balcony from which to enjoy some vino while looking out to the world. Perfectly located within the historic town.

The location was unique. Breakfast was plentiful. Staff was friendly.
Based on the pictures and the description, I had higher expectations for the room than the reality was. The shower cabin was very small.

Better than expected! A true sassi experience! The apartments are big, with a sassi flavor. We reserved two, both above a big cave, now a museum.
The apartments had a big kitchen, dinning area and bedroom. Great attention to every detail, decoration. The breakfast food was fantastic.
Nothing.

Everything regarding the room was excellent, room size, bathroom size, cleanliness, outside patio and location. There was food for breakfast fruit, yoghurt, pastries but we always like going out for coffee and Croissant but if you prefer to have breakfast on site it was fine with a kettle and coffee machine.
Having told them what time I was arriving the reception was closed and I waited 15 mins with my luggage. The reception is a separate building and they take you to your room which can be up to 300 metres away. We wanted to drop our bags and go to lunch while lunch was still available in restaurants at 13.30 we waited and went to lunch at 13.45pm while I was waiting my wife went out and found a restaurant that would take us as many close at 14.30and we had just arrived so hadn’t got our bearings. When we came back from lunch to get our bags we waited a further 10 mins as reception was shut showing guests to their rooms. When reception returned he got a call which took over 5 mins. I told him I had now waited 15 mins twice and he said he wasn’t gone 15mins. I said no but turning up after 10mins and then taking a call for 5 mind while not serving us is the same wait. Okay that was all I could fault them on but it was annoying at the time.
