I would definitely stay at the Shanklin Hotel again when visiting the IoW.

Mostly, it all went well. Staff very helpful. The facade of the hotel let it down a bit with damage and peeling paint but the interior was much better than expected with a large welcoming entrance lounge and easy room access without too many stairs. Room 93 was large, with an "ensuite" bathroom, and brightly daylit with large windows despite being semi-basement. Clean, well decorated, good "blackout curtains", comfortable twin beds and an idiosyncratic (It was found necessary to turn it off after channel changing and then turning it on again to activate the channel. I forgot to mention it to management!) television.

If I was going to complain about anything, it was about the fact that there was no table booked for breakfast at check-in. So, at breakfast time we entered the dining room, which had numbered tables, and went to sit at an empty one only to have another guest tell us that the table was taken. One after another, staff members asked us what the problem was and having told them, then left us standing, somewhat embarrassed by the stares of other diners, some of whom also queried what we were doing, with loaded breakfast plates in hand, by the entrance doorway for 5 -10 minutes before, eventually, a fourth staff member found us somewhere to sit.

Disappointed with the attuite of the employees, the guest was not king or being looked after

As a Hotelier I was very sissified with breakfast in a large restaurant was only had a few guests in, but was unable to sit as the window table as it was already set up for dinner, this is at 8:30 in the morning, was push to a corner of the room what was dark, also set up for dinner, so what was the point on not letting the guest have a window seat. Upset the wife that walked out over the service. Having a electric car was unable to get it charge even though offered to pay, only need a normal pug in from the mains. asked three difference receptionist to be told that they would get back to me but didn't. The room was under the main restaurant where a live bank was playing from 8:00 to late with a 7year old was not the best room to be in.

The room was large, clean, and meet our requirements.

Clean, quiet and spacious hotel with friendly staff.

Great location and value for money. The room was clean and comfortable, new bathroom and carpet. Staff were very friendly, whilst there was obviously quote a few guests staying, it wasn't noisy at all. Nice, all-round breakfast in the morning. Would stay again.

Even though the hotel was obviously built in the 70's/80's and the main areas decor are of this style, however, everything is clean, light and airy in the main areas. The corridors are quite dark but they have motion sensor lighting which works well as you move around.

Breakfast- missing items from breakfast. No consideration about food for people with allergies. Fried bread was cold, same for toasts. Rude waitress. The shower was broken and room had no toiletries.

The staff is friendly, the beds are comfortable, and the location is near the beach.

It would have been better if breakfast had been like a buffet, and we could have served what we wanted rather than ordering and waiting for every single item to be delivered by the waiter. Other hotels have two to three hours for breakfast from 8 to 10, while this hotel only has one hour. The bathrooms are outdated. The toiletries were not provided. It was absolutely not worth the money, or I wouldn't return.

The rooms were very dirty one of them had a cigarette butt and one of them had biscuit crumbs in the drawers whereas the other one had an awful smell that kept us up all night. The staff didn’t do anything to help. Also we requested for the three room to be next to each other but one of them was two floors below!

Shower was absolutely awful. Hose broken at top just below shower head and extremely hot water shot through and scalded my arm. A real shame as room was lovely. Just a replacement shower hose would make a big difference.

Just the view .

The view is not bad, the breakfast is not the best and i had to leave the room to the reception to get shampoo, and soap which should have been left in the bathroom as other hotels do. There was no Iron and Ironing board which is another downside to the room i stayed .

-large rooms -helpful and positive staff especially reception -free parking -large pool

- poor breakfast - food and drinks at breakfast - there is no smart tv in the room When we get there we have been alocated to a room that we couldn't flash the water on the toilet. The reception was very helpful and gave us another room which was better then the previous one. Everything was good until we realised that our room is under the restaurant/bar where the music stage was..we couldn't sleep till almost midnight...after this to the morning from 3.00am you could hear a noise sound like an old door opening at every 10 min...so for us that night was a nightmare. -

Not hotel fault but on our night there was a group of pensioners that were so noisy from 0540 to 0800. Slamming doors. Talking in corridors.
