I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Merchant Hotel in Galle Fort, and it surpassed all my expectations. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful, offering complimentary delicious fruit snacks and fresh juices each night. The cosy and comfortable atmosphere added to the overall enjoyment, and the hotel's central location made it convenient to explore the fort and nearby beach. I can't express enough how satisfied I was with my stay. Thank you, Merchant Hotel, for creating the best memory of my Sri Lankan trip. Highly recommended!

The hotel is conveniently located right in the centre of the lively bars, restaurants and shopping area. The staff were super friendly and helpful and the service we had was exceptional. The room was spotlessly clean, large and airy with a huge en-suite shower. Food wise, the breakfast and evening menus were extensive and could be eaten outside in a shaded area or in the air-conditioned restaurant, the food quality was amazing.
There was an outside bar area where you could sit and people watch and the drinks menu was comprehensive.
I genuinely don't think the hotel could have done any more to make our visit more enjoyable. I cannot recommend this place more highly

Everything at this establishment was exceptional. Checkin was easy, our pre-arrival request was honored, our rooms were clean, the staff was incredible, and the location was perfect. In addition to the hotel being fantastic, the hotel's on-premise restaurant was to-die-for (make sure to try the chicken sandwich). We can't wait to visit again.
Bonus: Ask for a room on the top floor to have gorgeous vaulted ceilings.

Wow ..one of the better places we have been over the years literally around the world. And especially in Sri Lanka.
Hence starts with a super refreshing fresh welcomr juice you can chose from the menu yourself. Check in fast and earlier possible than the official check in time.
Whole hotel new and with a pretty classy design. Also infrastructure bat a rather very high level. Very cosy rooms with a super bathroom.
The staff really extremely friendly, fast and helpful. Especially to be mentionned Amien at the reception.
The breakfast simply delicious with good cafe or tea included (not always the case in Sri Lanka). Yet almost too much since two big rounds based on your menu preferences 🤪.
Also the dinner delicious for a bit higher price (yet better food than a highly rated restaurant closeby).
Super well located in the very center in Galle fort yet rooms all silent (on the other side of the road try tonic spa..very qualitative spa rooms and charmy colonial infrastructure with excellent massage for a fair price).
Even so over 150 usd the night..its great value for money👍.

The hotel was a cute. Recently renovated I guess. The staff was also very helpful.
So I asked the staff to recommend activities to do, telling them that I had a conference to reach to in Colombo at 4 in the evening. They booked me on a whale watching safari early morning and assured me that I would get back by 11. However, the safari got over late and I got back to the hotel only around 2pm which made me miss my conference in Colombo that evening. The hotel was booked so the staff did not even allow me 20 minutes to pack up and book a cab to leave for Colombo. When I asked for 20 minutes to shower and change, and told them of my entire ordeal, they were not accomodating and in fact because the staff member who had booked the safari for me had gone home after his shift, they completely abstained from taking any responsibilty for suggesting the wrong safari etc and were not bothered that I missed my conference. So all in all - Book safari etc after knowing how long it will take, esp if you're on a short timeline.

The breakfast was great, there was a big choice of options. The food we chose was tasty and well presented. The staff were very welcoming upon arrival, which was appreciated after a long wet day of travelling. Quiet and in a fantastic locations. We were able to take a walk around the Dutch fort wall early before breakfast.
Generally great however we had dinner at the hotel in the evening, while the food and drinks were tasty we ended up not being served what we had ordered. We decided not to make a fuss and ate what we were given as it looked great and was tasty.

So many things to like. The location is central in the old fort, so the whole district is walkable. It’s easy to find as the streets are cross-crossing, so you just walk in the general direction and you find your hotel. The staff were immaculate and everyone so helpful and good natured. The restaurant was also top notch. Relaxed outdoor dining in a cool and relaxing courtyard. Food exceptional! The breakfasts amazing.

Staff was welcoming, the property location is in the middle of Galle Fort, easy to explore surroundings. Washroom decor is very lovely. TV have Netflix and YouTube.
1. beddings had a bit stain also the duvet not very comfortable ( I believe it is clean beddings, did not bother to ask to change a room as we arrived late evening)
2. Bed was too soft for us, had back pain second day.
3. The room service menu booklet cover was dirty with red stain on it.
4. Soundproofing was not good, we could hear noise from restaurants and neighbors, could not sleep well.

You can see it is a beautiful hotel from the minute you walk in the reception. Rooms were beautiful and spacious. Big balcony. By far the best hotel we've stayed in during our sri lankan holiday snd the comfiest bed. Breakfast was amazing, and the coffee was great. Also if your in the cafe it's worth trying the merchant iced coffee! Perfect location within the Fort, short walk to the light house. Staff were so friendly.

Samith and all the staff went above and beyond to make my stay as pleasant as possible. The hotel is absolutely beautiful; the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and in the best possible location. The breakfast was amazing, and just in general, all the small details made the stay extremely lovely.

The hotel is not too big which is good and has nice intimate feel with some character. Location is fantastic being in Galle Fort area. It is not worthwhile paying extraordinary prices for some similar properties in the Galle Fort area as it is all very close by and one can visit those places for a drink or meal. This hotel is good value for money. The room was quiet, spacious, very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was good. The welcome drink was nice. The courtyard area is very nice to sit. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help. They also helped arrange transport to next location. The breakfast options were decent. The hotel accommodated early check in and later check out which was very nice of them. We would recommend staying here when visiting Galle and we would stay here if visiting again.
The air conditioning in room was quite loud and we didn’t sit on balcony as noise from aircon from kitchen was also quite loud.
