ABOUT THE COTTAGE
This slice of heaven on the shores of Lake Champlain sits on the calm waters of Maquam Bay. This cozy cottage provides everything you need to enjoy a lake front retreat in Vermont. Enjoy the sunsets sitting at the campfire and relax on the Adirondack chairs overlooking the Bay. The large, fenced in yard provides plenty of space for relaxation or play (and is great for kids or dogs). The .44 acres is very private with mature trees and bushes lining the property. Watch the sunset over the water with the Adirondack mountains as the backdrop. The ramp provides easy access to the water – step into the shallow waters and cool off. Wildlife is abundant with eagles, herons, egrets, ducks, osprey and more.
Spend the summer, winter, fall or spring on the shores of this Lake Champlain get-away. The cottage itself sleeps four people in two bedrooms (a king bed in the master bedroom and twin bunks in the guest bedroom).
This spot has it all! A front porch, back deck and a patio along the edge of the water all provide great spaces to relax and enjoy the peace of the lake. There is also a wood burning fire pit (wood is provided).
Recently renovated with new bamboo flooring, the open living, dining and kitchen area is where you'll spend most of your time when you are not outdoors. Comfortable, cozy furnishings in the living area, a dining table that seats six people and a well-equipped kitchen are all provided to make you feel at home. A gas grill is available for use as well. There is also a full bathroom in the cottage.
An added bonus is the private ramp for easy access to the lake for your kayak or paddle board.
A tandem kayak is included along with a mix of life jackets. We also have several lawn games ready to play. Should you need to move indoors, the cottage comes with games, books and puzzles to enjoy. There are also 2 TV's (one in the living room and one in the master bedroom). High speed wifi internet service is included. Washer/dryer also available.
Bring Fido! Pets are welcome (up to 2 pets upon approval & $20/day fee applies).
Note: The yard is fenced in with a boundary fence. While it keeps our dog on the property, a determined or small dog can escape. If your dog is prone to running, it might be better to plan additional restraints while on property. In any case, we don't recommend leaving your dog unattended.

Beautiful sunsets. Great place for dogs to run, walk and swim. Has all the amenities you would need. Quiet and friendly neighbors. Would I go back? Yes.
10.0 / 10.0
Wonderful week at this cute cottage on the lake. The views are absolutely wonderful and we enjoyed mornings outside with coffee listening to the waves and evenings with a fire watching the sunset. Quiet location, close to town (Swanson is small with nothing to do), great close supermarket. Close to the Champlain Islands (North and South Hero for bike rides, winery, boating) and St.Albans (charming town with shops and dining). Burlington is a little farther but didn’t stop us from the 45 min drive. Kids enjoyed staying in the bunk house!
The house could use a more thorough clean and some minor attention to detail (broken outdoor hose, lighting, dog poop in yard, some more door mats by doors for wet feet) but overall a lovely stay!!

It was an extremely hot and humid week. Property does not have air conditioning which made it unbearable at times. Property lists a gas firepit but did not have one. One neighbor not a fan of dogs even though the property allows them. Property provides amazing sunsets.

Lovely cottage for relaxing and enjoying the sunsets. Close to town restaurants and shops. We took a scenic drive across the channel islands. Recommend Snow Farm Winery for tastings and weekly seasonal concerts.

The cottage is very clean, with lovely amenities such as a kayak and lovely fenced yard! Well set up kitchen and a plus having a washer and dryer. I recommend water shoes as the first few feet into the water are rocky and there are sharp shells. Also, note there is no air conditioner, but multiple ceiling fans keep it cool. Beautiful sunsets!

The property is beautiful! The location and peacefulness were just what I was looking for! I loved that it was pet friendly…my dog loved the fenced in yard! We did see many of the local attractions and traveled to Burlington…all very beautiful! The house was equipped great for the nights we stayed in to cook dinner. The bunk house was a pleasant surprise as i didn’t remember seeing it in the original vrbo listing! My only critique of the home is that it does need some sort if AC…the weather was very hot and humid and it was very hard to find relief, especially at night, even with the windows open. Perhaps some sort of standing AC unit would probably cool the entire place. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

What a fabulous place to watch the celestial event of the year! Plenty of room for two people. Very clean. Right on the water. So relaxing. Friendly neighbors. And a front row seat with no distractions for the eclipse. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your wonderful place.

I thoroughly enjoyed my extended stay at Maquam cottage! The property was as described; both the yard and the interior were larger than I expected. The kitchen was well-appointed, the furniture comfortable for woman and beast. My dog adored the yard and made friends with the neighbors, and my friend and I were both able to work remotely from the cabin during our stay. I sincerely hope to return next year!

Spotlessly clean and amazingly well equiped! The kitchen had everything imaginable. Comfortabbe beds, comfortable living area. Quiet neighborhood, and the cool breeze from the lake... everything we hoped for. Three easy miles to the supermarket.

This is a small, tidy home right on the Bay. Bedrooms are a good size for a vacation home & the bunk house is perfect for a bit of privacy! Tastefully decorated with comfortable furniture & spaces. Loved having necessities covered to reduce what you need to bring. Communication with the VRBO agent was continuous so it added peace of mind. Neighbors were quiet & friendly. It was perfect for a home base to explore the area. If we're ever in that neck of the woods again, we'd stay there in a minute!

The views were the best of any We ever experienced ! It rained on and off, and this week was the great smokey haze from the Canadian wild fires., But you cant change mother nature! It made for some great sunsets though.!

Be sure to invest in insurance if any chance of having to cancel. Three guests of five were sick , one with Covid, one recently just out of hospital. Were unable to rebook or cancel reservation. Had to go myself, sick and with a family member, hoping not to get sick. Covid is not considered a disease to cancel.

Great place for us and our two dogs. The fenced yard was perfect. Amazing views; lovely area; great places to explore. A few minor items needed repair/attention, but there was nothing that was urgent. The property manager was outstanding!!

We enjoyed watching the sunsets and kayaking. We made use of the lovely bunkhouse. It was nice to have that extra option. Very cute place in quiet, tree-shaded area.
5.0 / 10.0
The place was just as described; it had all of the amenities we needed and more. It was obvious that the owners wanted us to have an enjoyable stay.
It was perfect for the dogs. The living room offered wonderful views of the lake.
The fire pit while watching gorgeous sunsets was a bonus.
The lake was great for paddle boarding, kayaking, and skipping rocks.
The neighbors were respectful and very nice.
We enjoyed St Albans Park for its walking path and recreation. Grocery shopping and restaurants were convenient.
10.0 / 10.0
Everything in the listing was spot on, and the property is just like the pics. We stayed for a week here in August 2022. If you're a fan of world class sunsets, then this is the place. The bunkhouse was perfect for our 10 year olds, just close enough to be safe and just far enough to be out of our hair. Great assortment of board games for the one rainy day we had were provided in the cottage. A bunch of outdoor lawn games were available too in the game shed. The s'mores from the fire pit with a view of the stars over the lake was perfect. All of the little things were provided to make our stay enjoyable.
In searching for a place for this vacation, we needed a dog friendly location. There are 'dog friendly' listings and then there are places like this. This place was more than dog friendly. The owners clearly love animals. The yard was truly fully fenced in to allow our 100 lb yellow lab roam in a secure location. They even provided a pooper scooper and doggie bags for their guests.
The ramp gave us and our dog easy access to the lake. The water was a perfect temp and shallow enough to wade out about 100 yards.
If you are into water sports and fishing this is a great spot! We launched our boats at Sandy Point boat launch just up the lake. The water depths at the Swanton Boat Launch and Tabour Point Boat Launch were too shallow for trailered boats during our stay. We enjoyed multiple days of tubing, water skiing, and wake boarding. The property didn't have a dock, so we used two 5 gal buckets of cement with an eye bolt to moor onto for out two boats. If you have a boat, you have to hang at the Maquam Bay sand bar on the northwest side of the bay. On a hot weekend day you'll see 75+ boats anchored up enjoying the sand and temps! The fishing in the bay and surrounding islands was phenomenal too. We caught large mouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, white perch. We even got into the waters near the Missisquoi Bay National Wildlife Refuge and landed two monster bowfin measuring 23 and 31 inches. The weekend after we stayed here was the Major League Fishing Toyota Series Tournament out of Plattsburgh NY. It was cool to see all the pro bass boats scouting locations and practicing throughout the week around the bay.
The neighbor was a very nice man.
Directions for check-in/check-out and communications from the owners and property manager were very simple.
We would not hesitate to return to this property.

This place was great!! Great location and right on the lake. We enjoyed sitting on the patio and and also being able to sit by the fire pit or in the lawn chairs under the shade. What really made it nice was the access to the water, right through the backyard. The lake was really windy when for most of our stay, but the water was warm! The house was great; very spacious, the beds were comfy and the extra guest house is a cool touch. It was very hot the week we stayed, so having the ceiling fans helped cool the house down. The location is close to many stores and other things to do. We definitely would recommend staying here, and we hope to come back next year!

Serene cottage
We had an amazing stay at this spacious cottage. The kitchen is well equipped with all the basic things you might need, the gas grill is big and easy to work, the beds are comfortable and the spacious living room is perfect for viewing the sunsets and the lake.
This is truly a dog friendly cottage that even supplies blankets to cover the furnitire, dog dishes and dog treats and bags! The fenced in yard is good for larger dogs as long as you secure the front gate . The swim area is shallow and rocky and there is a lot of seaweed so bring floaties! There are several different outside seating and eating spaces that all look out over the lake. Having both a wood fire or gas option for fire pits was great especially on the windy evenings. We enjoyed a sunset every night and hope to return next summer!

Such a great vacation spot
I wish we’d booked for longer, the location of this cottage is just stunning. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay, it’s clean and with the games, fire pit and access to the lake there’s plenty to keep you busy on the property.
The house was pretty clean for being dog friendly. Our 10 month old was crawling all over so inevitably picked up some dog fur! The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to cook at home and the beds were comfy. We also did not have any issues with the wifi and was able to watch Netflix. I was worried about having no AC, but with the breeze from the lake, you don’t need it! It was 80F and very comfortable for sleeping.
We had been warned before we left from family that the lake would be too cold to swim. How wrong they were!! The lake temp was like bath water, especially in the shallows. It’s a perfect spot for swimming and kayaking!
Highly recommend booking! We’re hoping to be back next summer!!

Beautiful Outside Area
We stayed with two dogs, and the fenced in property was so helpful. They even provided poop bags, a bottle of wine and snacks. The kiddos loved the popcorn. We also used their dog bowls. Small things that aren’t necessary but super helpful to have right out of the gate.
Bedroom was tight, but having a king size bed to sleep in was worth the tight space. Kiddos loves the bunk beds.
House was tastefully and simply decorated. Easy to straighten up and kid and dog proof. I cover all furnishings with covers to prevent fur from getting on furniture.
Outside dining area was awesome - just to be and enjoy the water.
Fire pit was fun for the kids and the sprawling lawn and unobstructed views of the lake amazing. Easy to access the water with the concrete ramp. We even found sound sea glass. Spent most of our 5 days outside and enjoyed every minute of being there. Neighbors were nice and tolerant of a rental being beside them. Road was great for biking and proximity to town very easy.
A great find.

A cottge for lake lovers
We had the most lovely time at this lake front cottage. Our family and friends who visited were also impressed. The cottage was well stocked for kitchen dishes and appliances, there were comfortable beds and furniture, nice laundry with supplies and the outside had all needed to have patio and bonfires, dinner and barbecues. The WiFi and TVs worked great. Several Games played indoor and out! The lake view is super with sunny spots and while having some shade as well, Lake Access was good and the kayaking was fun. The sunsets here are really amazing from inside or out! Open up the windows and feel the lake breezes! Plus close enough to hop in the car and go biking on rail trail and hiking at the nature preserve. We did not use bunk house but mayve next time since it was so cute the visitors will stay, Wished we’d had more time! Management services and instructions were superb.

Easy, No stress
Stayed mid June 2022.
The property was just as described and our stay turned out better than we hoped. All the amenities necessary for a peaceful long weekend were provided and there was well more than enough room for the four of us.
Direct access to to the lake was great - the kids couldn't get enough of the kayak. They also caught plenty of fish directly from the wall at the end of the yard.
There was easy access to groceries and supplies without sacrificing the sense of solitude. We would definitely consider staying here again the next time we are in the area.
Thank you!

Beautiful Stay on Maquam Bay
What a wonderful find on Maquam Bay! I don't want to leave a review because I want this place to be available all the time for our stays on Lake Champlain!
The home is situated back from a quiet road. While there is some locals traveling the road, there is no noise to be heard except the waves crashing on the shore.
The place is completely fenced in. This was a bonus for our golden who loves to explore the outdoors. I felt safe to leave her outside in the yard unattended. Smaller dogs may need to be monitored as there are spaces in the fencing where a small one could sneak through (chihuahua or toy breeds). The home has many windows. This allowed me to see where she was without having to infringe on her outside time.
The home: Check-in was easy with the coded lock. Upon entering the home we were greeted with a welcome basket, information for our stay, and dog bowls for our pup. The house is nicely appointed with a large kitchen table, plenty of space in the living room with a spectacular view of the water, and two bedrooms and a bath. All of the house is up to date and modern.
The bedrooms are quaint. They have dressers for your clothes and luggage racks in the closet for living out of your suitcase.
The washer and dryer are a bonus as you don't need to bring your full wardrobe. Washing and drying is easy.
We didn't use the bunkhouse, but went inside to check it out.
It is a great space also! Nice bed and furnishings for a larger family.
The outdoors!!!! I can't stress enough how amazing the view is. I loved waking up every morning and taking my cup of coffee down to the patio table or sitting out on the back deck. This was how my husband and I spent most of our mornings.
We opened all the windows and had a beautiful lake breeze everyday which cooled the house. My husband was concerned without having air conditioning, but our June stay was 70-80 degrees during the day and we didn't miss air conditioning one bit!
We were here for a quiet stay of relaxation. We got just that and can't wait to come back!!!!
The owners have a lovely home and should be proud to share it with us all!!! Thank you for our lovely stay!!!

Fun family vacation with the dogs
We had a wonderful time at this beautiful lakeside property with a fully fenced yard for our dogs. The property was just as advertised and there were very thoughtful welcome items and lots of great information about local things to see and do. The neighbors were very friendly. The property manager was very communicative and the check in and check out instructions were very clear. We had a wonderful time and would recommend this place to anyone!

Beautiful view of the lake and privacy. The house was very clean and comfortable.
Overall, it was good. We really spent little time at the house bc we were leaf peeping other towns. I imagine a summer stay would be great. Wish there had been a dishwasher and better lighting in the living room. One table lamp didn't work at all. Bedrooms were pretty small, no room for luggage. Could have unpacked to dressers but, I prefer to live out of the suitcase.
