The Baixa district was completely rebuilt after an earthquake destroyed it in the mid-eighteenth century – now it's lined with neoclassical architecture, outstanding museums, stunning squares, and plenty of shopping opportunities, and this characterful apartment is right in the heart of it. Just a five-minute walk to the Praça do Comércio, you'll feel immersed in Lisbon's culture, history and commercial centre. Verging on old-timey Alfama, you really couldn't be better placed location-wise for all there is to eat, drink and do here. If you feel like a quiet indoor moment's downtime, relax in the bright, contemporary living/dining area with a glass of Lisbon wine. We love how the original features are still intact, while the modern furniture merges old and new in elegant fashion. Knock up a homemade piri piri chicken in the sleek kitchen to be enjoyed in the stylish dining area with Eames-inspired chairs. Although, with a host of eateries and family-run restaurants right on your doorstep, we think you'll be dining out most evenings. Home truths: *When we visited the Wi-Fi wasn’t as strong as we would have liked (only 20Mbps) – not ideal for home workers *Your host provides a travel cot and high chair on request *Guests are not provided with basic kitchen ingredients when staying here *There's no private parking here and the on-street parking outside can be fairly expensive *This is a contact-free self-check-in apartment *There are some slight signs of wear and tear *Quiet hours are after 11:00 pm
