Incredible food, kind staff and stunning location!

We had a beautiful week at this serene accommodation with the kindest and most helpful staff! They were renewing the roof of our bungalow so we were offered an upgrade free of charge. The food was absolutely delicious and the Halcyon Spritz was the perfect summer drink for us European travelers. The cappuccino with Sri Lankan coffee beans was also delicious. We boogie boarded in the ocean and relaxed by and in the pool. We even stopped by for lunch after we’d checked out and travelled for a week and were greeted like old friends by staff and owner alike. It really felt like coming home. 10/10 recommendation!

Perfect boutique bolt-hole in Mawella

Great location, right on Mawella Beach and within easy distance of other stunning beaches on both sides. Staff were very helpful and personable throughout with excellent care and attention to detail expected. Absolutely loved the interiors, a lot of love has gone into the design and it shows. Food was really good, great fresh seafood and breakfast options whilst rooms are well-stocked with complimentary beverages and traditional Sri Lankan sweet treats. Pool and garden area well-maintained and sun loungers comfortable and in ample supply for occupancy. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend as an ideal boutique option along this stretch.

Rubbish from beach to garden, I understand this area isn't necessarily the hotel's responsibility but this is pretty much my only constructive feedback apart from the fact there was a misleading currency error by booking.com which presented the final cost incorrectly - not the hotel's fault.

Beautiful propert. Avg Experience

The property has a stunning location and looks amazing. Better than the pictures. It is right on the beach and you can see the water from the rooms. In all the properties on Mawella beach, this looked like the closest to the water. The property is also maintained very well.

The reality that in Sri Lanka they set the bar very high for hospitality and for making everyone feel really special. This was missing here. We raised some concerns on hygiene a) the owner’s dog was seen drinking from the pool b) since they have an open kitchen a dish being served to another person had flies all over it. In both situations when we raised these concerns, the response was unlike what we have seen in Sri Lanka. The food didn’t match up to the beauty of the property.

Very lovely spot. Nice retreat from the world.

Beautiful bungalows, lovely pool, beautiful beach. Very smartly styled and put together. Would happily recommend.

On arrival the manager basically accused us of lying about our honeymoon. I don’t think it was intentional, but it certainly made us feel unwelcome from the get go. It is also nearby a large swamp, so many more mosquitos than most of our other stays.

Idyllic boutique hotel with 10/10 service.

Impecable service. The whole team is extremely attentive and friendly. Beautiful isolated stretch of beach. Lovely design and impressive attention to detail. Food is also very good.

Small thing but could be a nice addition to have a few board games / beach games (I.e. beach tennis rackets) for guests to use.

Great vibe and location!

One of my favourite properties in Sri Lanka! Fantastic vibe, exceptional food and spacious rooms that come with a great bathroom. The location is hard to beat with the ocean literally on one’s doorstep. The pool is amazing too. It was magnificent. We were in room two which was very close to the restaurant and therefore a bit noisy.

The most relaxing stay

This is the most wonderful place and probably one of the best hotels I stayed at. Beautifully desinged, luxurious, with great swimming pool and good restaurant. The staff is very helpful. The location is quite remote, but charming in it's own way - next to a calm, local beach. The room was incredibly clean. Highly recommend!

There are vegeterian options in the menu, but would be great to have more for dinner.

Wonderfully relaxing stay at the beach

Originally we had only planned on spending one night but fell in love with this place and ended up staying for the last few days of our holiday. The rooms where perfect and very comfortable, only a few steps away from a beautiful beach. Very nice pool area. The owner, his staff and the dog Loki were all so friendly and always willing to help. The food at the restaurant was also delicious. Thank you for the wonderful stay!

Perfect relaxing stay by the beach

We had a lovely stay at Halcyon and felt instantly relaxed here. The location is amazing with the beach so close and a lovely pool to enjoy. The breakfasts and cocktails were also a real highlight. We would recommend to anyone

Wonderful blissful property on Sri Lanka's south coast

The location is perfect- on a quiet stretch of the busy south coast - nestled between the sea and a small village. The 8 rooms are impeccable, and tastefully decorated

It gets a bit crowded around the pool if all rooms are booked. The food is good, not great, but ridiculously overpriced.

The location being right on the beach was the highlight of this spot for us, being able to walk along the beach first thing in the morning and watch sunrise and sunset each day. Food was incredible too. And the staff were incredibely friendly and warm.

Great cocktails. Breakfast was excellent, really the best and most diverse choices of all the places we stayed. Amazing, attentive staff. Location convenient to a lot of activities, that is, if you feel like venturing off the property, which you probably won't.

A little piece of paradise

Impressive new boutique hotel

Immensely impressed with this recent stay at the Halcyon Mawella. Loved both the internal and external design of the individual buildings. Attention to detail (eg fun to read in-room brochure) and superb food. I am not from these shores but bumped into two local folks who live in the area and chose to eat at the restaurant so clearly the food must be good! In my view close to perfection and lots of thinking went into this project. Highly recommend.

Just perfect, maybe a slightly larger plot wld have benefited in case of families etc

Superb

We absolutely loved our stay at Halcyon Mawella. The whole team were incredibly welcoming, helpful and friendly and the location is exceptional. We felt incredibly well looked after and the food is really amazing, they even have their own garden 10 minutes away so are pretty self sufficient which is a lovely plus in our eyes. We would highly recommend a stay there, it felt like a mini paradise.

A chilled, relaxing beach holiday experience, this is the place to be.

The location is absolutely stunning. The beach is shared with the local fishing community and practically no other tourists. An outstanding holiday destination. Menu and presentation of food incredible. Management and staff go above and beyond and our stay imhas been faultless

Perfect stay by the ocean

Charming villa with spectacular beach right in front of you. If you wanna have a whole beach for your self, that’s definitely the place. We loved the interior design, food at the restaurant (delicious😋), the staff was very attentive and responsive to our needs. Special thanks to the owner for creating and running this place.

Want to give you a heads up: the waves are quite big for swimming , only pool time😅

beautiful setting on the edge of Mawella beach (the waves can be heard at night from your room). lovely spacious rooms. Zander and team are great. very friendly and extremely helpful. they made our stay an absolute pleasure.
