We stayed here for the location, great access to the Underground, buses, and the West End. The breakfast was not included and too expensive. We tried the English breakfast one day and it was not worth the 24 pounds that they charged. Area was quiet. There was a serious lack of drawers, there wasn’t a dresser. The kitchenette was nice.

Left bags early before check in and returned later. Quiet, comfy. Huge rooms! Perfect
4.0
The room had a nice size for three persons as we were and the location with nice breakfast places close and convenient to get around. In the bathroom we found a declaration on taking care of the environment but in practice the towels and the sheets were changed during our three-night stay. Even when we tried to convince the maid to not exchange the towels. This is not acceptable!
4.0
Overall good but if you are more than one person the room would be a bit small,
the bed was really hard
4.0
Nice property, bed was a bit hard though. Very attentive and friendly staff
4.0
The rooms are a fantastic size and the little kitchenette was a brilliant addition. Room was cleaned every day and clean towels provided. The staff were lovely and friendly. Would stay again. Good location close to underground.
4.0
Room was a good size and clean overall. Great location with access to Underground station and bus stops just a few minutes' walk away. Also lots of dining and shopping options nearby. Front desk staff were friendly. Only negative was London was experiencing higher then usual temperatures and the room was quite warm. There was no A/C (as seems to be normal in London) and the window was hard to open. The fan supplied by the hotel was quite small.

I believe the plumbing made noises constantly as it is an old building
4.0
It is such a lovely neighborhood. I especially liked that it overlooked green space behind the hotel.
4.0
Not sure how the hotel is rated 4 stars. The building is old with charm however the room is very warn and tired. The carpet had staining and rips and the curtains needed replacing. Everything just seemed like it had not been kept up with. Note this hotel does not have air conditioning. It was very warm with only one window to open, they did have fans. The location was good within walking distance of multiple metro lines.

Hotel is in a great location. I love that there is space in front for a car to drop off (especially if you have luggage). The location feels safe - right by the British museum. The room was very comfortable. The elevator is a little small, but we managed okay. Please note there is no A/C.
4.0
We had a lovely big comfortable family room with a kitchenette. The hotel is very neat and clean, convenient for our visit to London, staff were pleasant, we had a good visit and we would definitely book here again.
4.0
Older but renovated hotel. Larger rooms than most modern UK/Europe hotels. Easy walking distance to British Museum. A little longer walk to British Library. I would stay there next time.
4.0
Room was spacious, clean and tidy. Kitchenette was handy. Close to the action with being just a little away to avoid the loud crowds at night! Easy to get around!

Wedding Anniversary trip. Fantastic location, short walk to the theatre and Covent Garden. Brilliant bus and tube access to the city

100% not a 4 star. Great location but rooms were very tired and that’s being kind! Carpets, sofa and bed fallen apart and filthy, wallpaper coming off walls and mould on ceilings. Such as a shame as with some much needed TLC could be great! 2-3 star at best unless a refurb is carried out!

It was a fabulous stay for one week.. The room was large, with everything we needed.. easily walkable to Soho and many other attractions.. lovely to come back to a quiet, charm filled street. We needed an iron with board, and staff were only too happy to oblige.
I will definitely stay here again

Quiet, comfy room.

Check-in was with a trainee receptionist and therefore was a bit on the slow side. Employees were friendly. They do offer luggage storage which is great considering I had 5+ hours to wait before I could check-in. The room was large and spacious, but had no climate control. The other downside was the shower/tub. It is not practical for anyone with mobility issues or with a disability. I had great difficulty getting in and out. Good location, near 2 Underground stops. Close enough to St. Pancras Station for long distance trains. Neighborhood was safe with multiple dining options. The British Museum is right around the corner.

We booked a room at Grange Portland but they moved us next door to the adjacent hotel, which was actually a nicer room. Breakfast was good, location is good excellent next to British Museum. Staff was helpful and responsive.
4.0
We stayed 3 nights. This was a very good “heritage” style hotel. Large room, updated bathroom and we really enjoyed having the use of the kitchenette in the room. Very quiet super central to most things. A 20 minute walk to the Soho theatre district, Royal British Museum is in your backyard and one block off a major thoroughfare. Comfortable bed. We would stay here again.
4.0
The curtains couch and beds are warn out. Needs a major renovation. Staff seem overworked and uninterested in being there. Way worse than last year when we stayed here.
4.0
Great location in a quiet neighborhood with a local ambience away from the crowds - yet in walking distance to relevant London highlights.
The hotel is a little worn down, but is still charming. We had a room on the second floor overlooking a gourdious courtyard.
4.0
Walking distance to the British Museum and many fantastic restaurants including Cordon Bleu London. Friendly and helpful staff made our stay a pleasure. Construction work was less than wonderful but that can happen anywhere. We will stay here again!

A fabulous property which offers more than its post suggests. I booked a double room with a kitchenette and it’s basically a suite! Huge windows, elegant drapes, places to sit. The street is quiet and the trees outside smell great. And having (basic) cooking facilities means I have saved a fortune in dining out. I would definitely come back here - thank you, Portland! Very comfy bed, too, I have slept like a log.

The location is perfect!

Great price for hotel in this location. Housekeeping was very responsive - especially the day I did not go out until after 3pm. Quite old fashioned decor but huge bed - and the room was clean and comfortable.
4.0
Very clean, quiet, professionally run little hotel. Steps away from the British Museum. Within walking distance of so many more sites worth seeing. Staff was always courteous and friendly. Would stay here again.

We were put in the “deluxe suite” with kitchenette in the basement of the hotel. The tv did not work, the stairs to get to our room were steep with no handrails and there was no plug to take a bath. The carpet and walls were worn and stained. The kitchenette was a tiny sink and small microwave. Very disappointing!

The property is very comfortable and spacious but dated.
4.0
Good service, good breakfast and great location.
4.0
Despite it being one of the coldest periods so far our room was warm and cozy. It was large with heavy curtains to keep in the heat. We had everything we needed for an exceptionally comfortable stay.
The hotel is conveniently situated for Russell Square tube as well as walking distance to the British Museum, Covent Garden and Leicester Square. Definitely recommended.
4.0
Very large and comfortable room, particularly by London standards. Location perfectly centered between Bloomsbury Square and Russell Square. Easy walk to Bloomsbury, Covent Garden, Kings Cross, Fitzrovia, and even Leicester Square (in decent weather).
4.0
Complicated - the hotel is basically multiple buildings and it’s time-consuming and confusing. I went to the Portland and was told I had to check in in the Clarendon. Then it turned out I was staying in the Clarendon. Breakfast (which I paid for) started so late (0800) that I couldn’t take it. No discount though. They said they’d leave me a ‘bag of fruit’ at reception the next morning. That never materialised. The room was a lovely size for central London but it was tired with peeling paint and wallpaper, fraying on the bedstead etc. There were no coffee making facilities or iron/ironing board in the room. Not good value at all for £203 a night.

Very kind, thoughtful , accommodating and helpful staff.
Excellent buffet breakfast. Vast choice. High quality offerings with fruit cheeses eggs and even gluten free options. Very good coffee.
Great neighborhood. Close to public transit.
Close to ymca for fitness.
I would definitely recommend and stay there again as well.

We arrived early and the Hotel was happy to store our luggafe after our 9 day cruise nin the UK. The staff was superb! Friendly and quite helpfgul.
The Hotel was immaculate and was quite a gargain when compared to the London area.
We would be Happy to stay again in the future

The stay and the room itself were good. The staff was also good. We found the location to be very good. We didn't know that it didn't have a/c, but that may be an England vs Canada thing. Also, the site said there were 'laundry facilities', but they had none. Fortunately, the Boswell laundromat was only 5 minutes walk away.

Nice clean room.

Very cute boutique hotel in a very handy area close to everything. Under renovatiins outside which meant workers right outside our window at 7am. Had to have windows open as no air conditioning and it was mid-20s outside. A small fan does not help. The backyard space was a mess but could be a very cute place to sit and have a coffee. The staff was lovely, everyone from front desk to cleaning staff.
