Nice clean hotel great staff our room had a balcony with great views of Mt Etna and the bay of Taormina
5.0
Excellent location close to all the action, great for solo travellers.
As other reviews mentioned the sounds of the night life do make it up to the water facing rooms but quiets down after 11pm.
Staff were helpful. Breakfast was simple but great.

Nice place with a beautiful view. Walkable to the main area with restaurants and shops

The location is outstanding, marvellous

The hotel was nice. Nice room and great view. But the music from the live music from la scala is so loud it is difficult to sleep. Unfortunately
2.5
Great location
There was a guy playing music at a bar below. I just knew that I was getting asleep before 12:15 when he stopped playing. That is the draw back from having a room with a balcony

Property was nice but a little dated. Staff was nice and breakfast was good. We booked this hotel over one we liked better because it listed air conditioning but it was not working, they said they don’t turn it on until June. Extremely loud music from the bar both nights until around midnight made it difficult to sleep.

The hotel has good bones and in its day must have been rather grand. Today it is a well-located three star solution though tired. Central air, off for the season, left us struggling to be comfortable.

This hotel was in an excellent location for exploring Taormina, especially being able to access the back door which led right out to the Corso Umberto! Staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English ,which was helpful to us. Our room was a good size with plenty of storage and the adjoins bathroom was quaint, although the shower was a bit dated. Everything was very clean and housekeeping was efficient. The little balcony overlooked the sea in the distance and although we could hear music from local bars and restaurants it wasn’t invasive. The buffet breakfast was good and plentiful.
The only disappointing thing was the airport shuttle which was on the website at €50 each way. Staff were amazed at this price when we showed them and we had to pay €140 for a private taxi.

I really enjoyed my stay and thought it was great value!
Location is impeccable and literally 70m from the central square of Taormina. Staff was super polite and helpful whenever I needed help
Overall very clean throughout with a stunning rooftop bar on top of the hotel. Rooms are a bit “vintage” but that gives it a better vibe anyway.

Great view

Great location once we found the hotel. Lots of dining areas in walking distance. Great view from rooftop bar. The only minor drawback was no power point in the bathroom and only one mirror in the bathroom. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the staff were very accommodating.

This place is a real gem - but unassuming at the same time. Its an Art hotel and the artwork didn't always suit my tastes but everything else was amazing....great price, buffet breakfast included, really polite/helpful staff and a cool roof top bar with amazing views over the whole town. And the best thing, their secret backdoor exit lead right down into the centre of town! Perfect!
5.0
Right in the centre of Taormina, excellent location. Staff very friendly. Building is a little dated, but still worth the money. Also worth paying a little more to have a balcony with sea view and stunning views of Etna.

Location and parking was not easy to find. Air condition was scheduled to turn off at 1:30 am. Great views and bar.

The Hotel itself was okay very clean and staff were very friendly. However are room was not so good. It would have been okay for 1 or 2 nights but it was terrible for a week. Room 307 is dingy noisy and has the smallest shower in the world. The curtain didnt go fully around or to the floor so every shower the whole bathroom was flooded. Because if noise we asked to be moved but that was a NO too busy. Didnt bother to complain about bathroom because of this, but it really isnt a good room. Dont let this put you off staying here but if offered the dungeon with smallest shower in the world, tell them a definite no no. Unless your happy to clean floor everyday and have the curtain stick to your bum.

Great location , prepare to walk alot of stairs thru out Taromina.

I thought this was a great place to stay in Taormina with such wonderful views of the sea and the town. I wish the air conditioning was not broken though. It was a bit too warm. Breakfast was great. :-)

Hotel was very nice. Great location. Excellent breakfast. Excellent cleaning. Reception staff very pleasant, only issue was our English to Italian was not the best. Side view room was very small, once sea front room became available we changed and room was beautiful. Overall very good hotel and would come back again.

The Hotel have a perfect location in the centre of Taormina, a stunning view from the terrace.
Reception, breakfast staff and the chambermaids all give you fantastic service.
The room was big and also the bathroom, and we had a terrace (#202).
Breakfast is fresh and been filled up the whole time , and as I wrote very good service.
We can highly recommend this hotel.
If we coming back to Taormina we will definitely stay here. Our stay was for 9 night.
There are many good restaurants nearby.
Taormina is a very beautiful little town.

The mattresses in room 420 were so old they were concave (one more than the other) I asked the staff three times (in Italian and in English) for either a mattress topper (they had none), a newer mattress or to be moved to another room. I was told all the mattresses were like that. Our friend in room 322 room said one of his was bad too and one wasn't too bad. His room had a bad sewer smell so he spent most of his time out on his patio with furniture riddled with cobwebs. Our room had a tiny balcony that fit only 2 chairs with no room for your knees so if you are wanting ocean view (as we had paid for) the partial view in this room might not be what you expected. The hotel itself is faded granduer and would actually be nice if anyone cared to get new mattresses, cleaned the balconies every now and again and did something about the sewer smell. It is a great location inside the pedestrian zone - which is its only selling point (and the breakfast is pretty good with ham, cheese, boiled eggs, yogurt, breads, pastries, etc) so if you insist on staying here because of that than wait for a deal on the rooms (like less than $100) and be sure you don't stay on a floor lower than the 4th.

Nice spot with Sea views, but terribly difficult to locate....you have to go into a one way street...the wrong way...and reverse out...there is no right way to get there. No parking, which surprised us,as it says it is available, but you have to drive elsewhere and hope you can get it.We couldnt as everyone was double parked at the location we were sent to....we ended up paying 50 Euoros to park for 2 nights!Nice room, decent breakfast and lovely views, but access and parking was not easy.

We had 5 wonderful nights. The hotel is filled with art and the design of the hotel is refreshing and very cool. The rooms are big and i think its sea view from every room.
We dont usually stay in hôtel bars, but this bar was so good. You have view over Etna and the rest of Taormina. The bartender that worked there (4-9 october) was extremely Nice and made us some Great gin tonics and the best negroni i had, thank you so much!
We will def Come back

The perfect place to stay in Taormina if you like being close to everything. Parking is nonexistent at the property but there is a big parking garage with a shuttle bus that will take you up the hill to Coursa Umberto.

Awesome location, good air conditioning, nice rooms, beautiful views.

Avoid this place!!! They turn off AC in hotel from 11am-3pm, during hottest hrs of the day, then from 2am-6am when you trying to get sleep. They claim this was stared “in your contract”. Front desk staff are indifferent to issues, manager is nowhere to be found.
2.5
This hotel is situated above the prettiest square in Taormina, and the views from the rooms overlook the sea. The architecture and art are wonderful.
2.5
Hotel Vello D'Oro is a charming older hotel with whimsical architectural touches, filled with unique artwork, right in the centre of Taormina. It is easy walking distance to numerous restaurants, shopping and historical sites. While the hotel should update its windows for sound insulation and energy efficiency, our room was clean, had a comfortable bed and the view from our balcony down to the town square, the sea and Etna were wonderful. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The scenic path to the church in the rock begins nearby and we also walked to the outstanding ancient theatre and wonderful Castelmola from the hotel. There is no need to move your car during your stay to see everything Taormina has to offer. If you are wanting to park at the hotel, reserve ahead for one of the few parking spaces and be prepared to squeeze your car into a tight spot after backing down a narrow one way street the wrong way. Better to park in the parking garage Porto Catania, take the garage elevator to the street level and walk to the hotel. Be prepared to lug your suitcase up steps within the town. This situation is not unique to this hotel in Taormina. All in all, we completely enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend this hotel.

Nice hotel, very central, just behind main square. First floor entrance with lift was a useful find!

The hotel was very beautiful and easy to find. Its right in the center of town so youre close to everything. My room had a beautiful terrace with a great view of the sea. They provide options to the beach which is nice because it is far . I didnt use it but can be convenient. I would definitely stay here again
