Very pleasant and quiet stay. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Fabulous breakfast and food in general.

Loveky pub with rooms in separate house . Very close to chatsworth house . Very dog friendly

Perfect, excellent location, building, food and the staff were amazing.

Excellent stay. Staff excellent apart from one. Our room was above the bar and there was some noise from the bar but it stopped at 10pm so not really a problem. Room excellent, bathroom and toiletries excellent! Breakfast very good apart from the bacon served was streaky bacon. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs excellent. I was charged £180 by Hotels.com but the hotel bill was actually £153.

It was unfortunate that we were there after the floods in October. Disappointed to have dinner in the damp feeling bar when the lovely dining room was empty . Why ?
Staff were lovely , efficient and a good and reasonable wine list . Great breakfast.

Great location, easy and convenient parking. Well appointed room, good beer selection and good food.
4.4
Quaint and beautiful place to stay. Great pub/restaurant as well! Highly recommended.

Lack of accommodation in main building. Lack of lounge. Unchanging menu. Not value for money

Walked to chatsworth house

The hotel was friendly clean and tidy. Didn't like the first room so they changed it without hesitation. Food was extremely good, not cheap by any means but they did deliver on the quality.

We had a one night stay in the brookside house next to the hotel, our room was extremely comfortable with King size bed, a nice touch was a box of chocolate cookies with the coffee and tea making facilities. The bathroom was a little quirky the toilet flush took a little getting used to you think it is broken but then decides to flush also the over bath shower had a disconcerting habit of the shower head tapping me on the head now and again. The food could not be faulted for choice or quality and also the extensive wine list. We will definitely return to the hotel. The staff at the hotel were also very professional and friendly nothing was to much trouble for them.

A very comfortable stay and delightful staff who were extremely helpful. We stayed in a room across the road which was quiet.

Amazing facilities! Very kind staff and excellent care. Will definitely be back

Utterly romantic village setting - old stone walls, tinkling stream. Good meals in intimate ye olde rooms or in a modern breakfast room. Slightly disappointing when breakfast menu promises Traditional Derbyshire Oatcakes but they had run out of them - I'm always curious to try local things. The building is really old and small, which meant that chatter from the pub rooms and outside table could be heard loudly as we tried to get to sleep ... but that did quieten down after we made a phone call

Hotel room seemed ok on arrival, however cobwebs present and some damp in corner of bathroom. Poor for £220 B+B.
Worse to come . Fire alarm at 6.00 am. No one available for advice. As room was in a 2 bed cottage, we had to get dressed and go out in the cold to the main building - this was locked.
Eventually alarm stopped but sleep was ruined for myself and wife. No one form the hotel appeared at any time . As a fire marshall at my business this made me wonder if they had a fire policy. I noticed the fire extinguishers had not been serviced recently, and wonder if the fire alarm had also been serviced- this may explain why it went off.
After a very average breakfast ( cold coffee - replaced grumpily without an apology ) , my wife decided to complain at reception for having a poor nights sleep. - she could not get back to sleep after the alarm.
The only person available ( the hotel does not have a reception - simply someone behind the bar ) gave a 'lame' apology. This was repeated when we were still obviously unhappy. He suggested that the alarm may have gone off due to an 'event' in our room, as if it could be our fault. In fact the alarm was triggered in another room where they were asleep.
I would have expected that at a hotel in the Devonshire Group ( I have previously stayed at the hotel in Bolton Abbey) a more genuine, and generous apology would have been made.
At over £220 for a bedroom i would have quite honestly have expected a full refund , if not more ..

Initially room was cold and smelled damp.
Staff supplied additional heater immediately but condensation in windows remained and was mopped up by towels at base of windows.
Quite a bit of mould evident..
General feeling was expensive for B + B and very small room
Staff pleasant and accommodating

My husband and I stayed here on sunday night as part of a weekend trip away to celebrate his 50th birthday. We had a short wait to be checked in as there was only one member of staff on, but that was ok and we were shown to our room which was across the road from the pub on the ground floor. The room was beautifully decorated and furnished although was rather full of furniture so that there wasn't a lot of room to actually put our bags and move around the room. The bed was obviously 2 singles locked together but it had a hard ridge down the centre of it which was quite uncomfortable. We were fortunate enough to have beautiful warm weather but because the room was on the ground floor opening the window (which was quite difficult as there was a large dressing table and mirror in front of the window) made the room very noisy and obviously for security reasons couldn't be left open. We enquired as to if we could have a fan, but were told all the ones they had were in use, so the room was very very stuffy and hot.
We had booked an evening meal in the restaurant and this is where the biggest disappointment came the waitress who served us was miserable, surly and rude. We ordered wine which didn't arrive until half way through our main meal and only because I asked again for it to be brought to us.( the table next to us also had the same happen to them) the food was average my fish was overcooked and my husband who had steak was not offered any condiments to go with his meal.

Charming inn with hospitable helpful staff

Excellent pub hotel-Food was very good & staff very helpful & pleasant.

The hotel is more of a pub with rooms but done to a very high standard. You have the benefit of a traditional rural inn with the comfort of high quality rooms in a separate building. The village location is attractive and quiet but within easy (5 minutes) reach of Bakewell and Chatsworth House.
Breakfast was of a high standard with local produce featuring and evening meals were equally good although if on a tight budget they would be a little expensive.

We stayed for 1 night. Dinner and breakfast were amazing
4.4
Our room was in a cottage across the road from the Devonshire Arms. We had booked a suite but I was somewhat underwhelmed by the size of the manin bedroom and the separate living room, which just about had room for a sofa bed (which for some reason had been made up) and a TV. However the decor was good, and everything was spotlessly clean. Wifi however was not good. We enjoyed our dinner at the hotel, and the breakfast was excellent. Staff were all both friendly and efficient.
4.4
The hotel was cold in all common areas apart from the bedroom. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and acceptable.
4.4
The room allocated was over the bar. There was loud noise until after midnight and staff working from early morning. There was no prior indication of this problem. One of the staff said 'what do you expect if you stay in a pub'! The bed was only small and uncomfortable. There was black mould in the shower. There were serious draughts and the room was cold in spite of the electric radiator being on full. The dinner was adequate but not gourmet fare. The breakfast would have been fine if we had not had to wait over half an hour for the cooked breakfast with at least six tables who arrived after us being served first. There was no acceptance of a serious mistake being made and no apology proffered..
We expected a lot better for the amount paid.
